7-Eleven Owners Busted for Harboring and Hiring Illegal Immigrants

Photo Credit: ShutterstockU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Tuesday that five 7-Eleven franchisees have pleaded guilty to concealing and harboring dozens of illegal immigrants who were employed at the 14 stores they ran in New York and Virginia.

ICE said in a news release that the defendants will face either 10 or 20 years in prison for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, and for wire fraud. The defendants are also being charged with giving the immigrants fake identities that were stolen from U.S. citizens, including the identities of children and the deceased.

They also housed illegal immigrants at their homes, and stole millions of dollars from their wages.

“These defendants knowingly hired illegal aliens to feed their greed, stole the identities of unsuspecting U.S. citizens, and swindled more than 2.6 million dollars in wages from their enslaved workers,” said James T. Hayes Jr. special agent-in-charge of Homeland Security Investigations New York. “This case serves notice to employers that they will be severely punished if they seek to profit on the back of an illegal workforce.”

The Pentagon plans to expand a program that has historically targeted foreign nationals with desirable skill sets to include the children of illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. before their sixteenth birthday.

Future enlistees who have been approved under a 2012 Obama administration Deferred Action for Child Arrivals program, or DACA, will now be allowed to take part in the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program, Military Times reported Thursday. The Pentagon will have a pool of individuals that ranges from 1.2 million to 2.1 million young men and women.

A small number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. will have an opportunity to join the military for the first time in decades under a new Department of Defense policy unveiled Thursday.

The new rules will expand an existing program allowing recruiters to target foreign nationals with high-demand skills, mostly rare foreign language expertise or specialized health care training.

For the first time, the program — known as Military Accessions in the National Interest, or MAVNI — will be open to immigrants without a proper visa if they came to the U.S. with their parents before age 16. More specifically, they must be approved under a 2012 Obama administration policy known as Deferred Action for Child Arrivals, or DACA.

The new Pentagon policy may be the first phase of a broader government-wide effort to ease pressure on immigrants and create new paths to citizenship. President Barack Obama, frustrated with the failure of Congress to pass any substantial immigration reform, has vowed to aggressively use his presidential authority to change the way immigration policies are carried out.

Nearly 30,000 soldiers must be removed from the active rolls in the next 17 months if the Army is to make the first waypoint in a drawdown that eventually will reduce the force to 450,000, or even 420,000, soldiers.

As of April 1, there were 519,786 troopers on active duty, according to the most recent accounting of Regular Army strength by the Defense Manpower Data Cnter.

The personnel total includes 4,000 West Point cadets and several hundred soldiers who are processing for separation because of physical disability, and several hundred others who have been identified for involuntary separation or retirement because of indiscipline or selection by force reduction boards.

Since the beginning of the drawdown in October 2012, Army strength dropped from 550,000 to 530,000 by the end of fiscal 2013.

Budget projections indicate the Army will end fiscal 2014 on Sept. 30 with 510,000 soldiers. With that level of manning, the service will have to cut the active force by 20,000 soldiers in 2015.

At Least 40,000 Aliens Vanish into USA…

For nearly three months this summer, the Obama administration carefully avoided answering questions about what happened to tens of thousands of immigrant families caught illegally crossing the Mexican border and released into the United States with instructions to report back to immigration authorities.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and others said they faced deportation. But it turns out that tens of thousands of those immigrants did not follow the government’s instructions to meet with federal immigration agents within 15 days. Instead, they have vanished into the interior of the U.S.

The Homeland Security Department privately acknowledged that about 70 percent of immigrant families failed to report as ordered. The disclosure came during a confidential meeting at its Washington headquarters with immigration advocates participating in a federal working group on detention and enforcement policies.

The Associated Press obtained an audio recording of Wednesday’s meeting and separately interviewed participants.

On the recording, the government did not specify the total number of families released into the U.S. since October. Since only a few hundred families have already been returned to their home countries and limited U.S. detention facilities can house only about 1,200 family members, the 70 percent figure suggests the government released roughly 41,000 members of immigrant families who subsequently failed to appear at federal immigration offices.

Illegal Aliens Sue U.S. for Returning Child to Guatemala

The U.S. government may have to pay big bucks to settle an unbelievable case involving an anchor baby—traveling from Guatemala with her illegal immigrant grandfather—who wasn’t allowed into the country to be reunited with her illegal alien parents.

It sounds like a bad joke, but it’s a real-life case pending in federal court and a George W. Bush-appointed judge appears to sympathize with the illegal immigrants. In a ruling issued this month, Judge Kiyo Matsumoto in the Eastern District of New York refused to dismiss the case against the government and accused U.S. Homeland Security agents of “negligence and laziness” for essentially doing their job.

Here’s the incredible story; a Guatemalan couple living illegally in Long Island New York sent their 4-year-old, U.S.-born daughter to spend winter with her extended family in Guatemala. The maternal grandfather, a Guatemalan who had previously violated U.S. immigration laws, traveled with the girl since her parents’ illegal status would prevent them from reentering the U.S. if they left. But when the girl, Emily, and her grandpa, Luis Dubon, returned from their Central American adventure, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found the grandfather did not have proper documentation to enter the United States.

Inclement weather diverted the New York-bound flight to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia and federal authorities there busted Dubon for not having a valid visa or border crossing identification card and for fraudulently attempting to enter the United States by failing to disclose that he had previously been unlawfully present in the country. Officers eventually called Emily’s parents to inform them that Dubon would be sent back to Guatemala.

Harvard Gives Student Full Ride After He Tells Them He's Illegal Immigrant

Photo Credit: Reuters When Dario Guerrero, an illegal immigrant who found out about his status in high school, told Harvard that he was in the country illegally, the school encouraged him to apply–and gave him a full scholarship after he was accepted.

Writing in the Washington Post, Guerrero, who is currently a junior at the university, said after an MIT official recommended that he not apply to the school during a trip to visit college, he “left the office in a daze” because MIT had been his dream school. He started walking down Massachusetts Avenue” and, “without really planning it, I found myself in the middle of Harvard.” A Harvard admissions officer told him, “If you are admitted to Harvard College, we will meet your full financial need without regard to your legal status.”

He eventually got in, and “they gave me a full ride. This meant I wouldn’t have to worry about student loans or quarterly tuition payments; that I always had a place to stay away from home; that I could travel every semester, on Harvard’s dime, back to California; that my parents would never have to worry whether I’d finish school. Those are luxuries few people, documented or not, ever have.”

Vitter: Obama Admin ‘Bending Over Backwards To Give Obamacare To Illegal Immigrants’

Sen. Vitter wrote to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator Marilyn Tavenner on Monday with a hard line of questioning about the agency’s months-late effort to verify Obamacare sign-ups’ citizenship and IMMIGRATION STATUS.

“The Obama Administration is bending over backwards to give Obamacare to illegal immigrants — but won’t protect hard working American citizens who are losing their health care coverage,” Vitter said. “The Obama administration has been granting deadline extensions, making excuses, and turning a blind eye to falsified documents by illegal immigrants.”

Obamacare’s first open enrollment period, originally scheduled to end March 31, was extended through April 15. But five months later, the Obama administration is still getting around to ensuring that those who have been using Obamacare coverage — and likely taxpayer subsidies — are actually eligible.

Louisiana School System Says Educating Illegal Immigrant Children Will Cost $4.6 Million

Photo Credit: TownHallThe cost of educating illegal immigrant children who are residing in the United States will cost one school district in Louisiana almost $5 million, according to the Louisiana Department of Education. State Superintendent of Education John White crunched the numbers in response to a request from Senator David Vitter (R-LA).

According to White:

The Jefferson Parish School System estimates the total cost associated with educating these students to be $4.6 million. The district will receive an estimated $2.2 million toward this cost through the state funding formula based on the October 1 enrollment count adjustment (533 students x $4,261 per student). The other affected districts are calculating their estimated costs and will report them to the state next week.

In addition to normal cost of sending a child into the public school system, these aliens often need additional aid to address the language barrier. White noted that to serve the 533 illegal immigrants, the district would need to hire several additional English as a Second Language teachers.

Obama: Illegal Immigrants Should Not Have to 'Look Over Their Shoulder'

Perhaps signaling that he will soon enact executive actions to ease even more deportations, President Barack Obama said on Friday that illegal immigrants should not have to “look over their shoulder” while in the country illegally.

At a press conference at the NATO Summit in Wales, Obama said he would act “fairly soon” on executive amnesty after going over proposals and recommendations that Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Eric Holder have provided him.

Obama said that in the “absence of congressional action,” he intends to “take action” to increase resources on the border, upgrade “how we process these cases and that we find a way to encourage legal immigration and give people some path so they can start paying taxes, pay a fine, and learn English.” He asserted that it is important that they not have to “look over their shoulder but be legal since they’ve been living here for quite some time.”

The length of time that illegal immigrants stay in the Untied States has spiked drastically over the last decade, according to a recent Pew Research Center study [emphasis added]:

Among the nation’s 10.4 million unauthorized adults, a shrinking share have been in the country for less than five years—15% in 2012, compared with 38% in 2000. A rising share have lived in the U.S. for a decade or more—62% in 2012, compared with 35% in 2000. About a fifth (21%) had been in the U.S. for two decades or more as of 2012.

Border Patrol Agent Fires at Armed Militia Member

A Border Patrol agent pursuing a group of immigrants in a wooded area near the Texas-Mexico border on Friday fired several shots at an armed man who later identified himself as a militia member.

Border Patrol spokesman Omar Zamora said agents had been chasing a group of immigrants east of Brownsville Friday afternoon when an agent saw a man holding a gun near the Rio Grande. The agent fired four shots, but did not hit the man. The man then dropped his gun and identified himself as a member of a militia. Zamora said no other details were immediately available.


Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio, whose agency is involved in the investigation, said the incident occurred on private property and it appeared the man had permission to be there. He was not arrested, Lucio said.

Ineligible Illegals File Request to Get Dreamer Status, Force Obama’s Hand

Nearly a dozen illegal immigrations announced a campaign Wednesday to force President Obama’s hand on halting deportations, saying they would file papers demanding to be let into the existing program granting legal status to so-called Dreamers, although none qualifies.

Some of the immigrants came as children and would have qualified except they went home for college and then came back, while others are parents of Dreamers who already have legal status under Mr. Obama’s 2012 program. And one is Jose Antonio Vargas, a former Washington Post reporter who was a few months too old to qualify for the Dreamer policy, and whose case has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate.

Mr. Vargas, who travels the country advocating for illegal immigrants, said they often hear complaints from Americans who tell them they should get in the back of the immigration line. But he said that’s impossible for most illegal immigrants, saying there is “no line” for them to get in that would earn them legal status from within the U.S.

“This morning, by submitting our applications, we created a line, a process. Now it’s up to the Obama administration. The ball is in your court, Mr. President,” Mr. Vargas said.

NY church backs out of federal plan to house illegal immigrant children

A New York church has dropped its proposal to temporarily house roughly 40 juvenile immigrants who have entered into the United States from Mexico, citing a missed deadline for the federally-funded program and a looming change in leadership.

Rev. Marc Herbst, an assistant to the bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod-Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, told FoxNews.com that Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Commack has abandoned its plan to house the children for roughly 10-day stays.

“At this point, it just doesn’t look like this is going to be feasible,” Herbst said Tuesday. “At this point, it’s not appropriate to make a decision at this moment because funding is not available and we’re going through transition.”

GOP Rep: illegal immigration costs Americans

Each illegal immigrant in the United States costs American citizens, Louisiana Republican Rep. Vance McAllister argued this week at a town hall meeting in his home state, according to The Town Talk.

“Every time one illegal immigrant comes to this country, you lose health care, you lose schooling, you lose education for one our citizens.” McAllister said, according to the local publication, due to their costs.
