Trump Appeals Suspension to Rejoin Facebook, Instagram

Former President Donald Trump has submitted a statement of appeal to an oversight board funded by Facebook in a bid to rejoin the platform. The decision is expected to take around two and a half months.

Former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who is a co-chair of the oversight board, told UK’s Channel 4 News that they are currently looking into the appeal concerning Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. The board was set up to be an independent group to hear users’ appeals and is comprised of 19 former politicians, journalists, and academics.

“It’s a very high profile case but that is exactly why the Oversight Board was created in the first place,” Thorning-Schmidt said.

In a statement to The Epoch Times, the board confirmed that “a user statement has been received in the case before the Oversight Board concerning President Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.” (Read more from “Trump Appeals Suspension to Rejoin Facebook, Instagram” HERE)

Pope Francis’ Instagram Account Appears to ‘Like’ Second Racy Model Pic

Pope Francis’ Instagram account is accused of liking a racy photo by an X-rated model for the second time.

“Hey thats me,” tweeted Margot Foxx on Tuesday as she shared a screenshot appearing to show the official papal account among more than 2,500 likes on a photo of her in a revealing black bodysuit. . .

The “like” comes weeks after the pontiff’s official account “liked” an image of Brazilian model Natalia Garibotto, 27, standing by a school locker dressed in a white crop-top and a dress barely reaching her behind.

The Vatican launched an internal investigation into the first “like,” and asked Instagram for help in investigating the source of the “like.” (Read more from “Pope Francis’ Instagram Account Appears to ‘Like’ Second Racy Model Pic” HERE)

Instagram Censors Post for Linking Joe Biden’s 1994 Law to Mass Incarceration

Facebook-owned Instagram on Wednesday censored as “false” a user’s claim that President-elect Joe Biden’s 1994 crime law contributed to the mass jailing of black people.

That claim is vehemently supported by both left-wing and conservative criminal justice reform advocates, and by lawyers for people with long prison sentences.

Artist Brad Troemel, who has more than 100,000 Instagram followers, posted a photo of Biden and then-President Bill Clinton, writing: “Find someone that looks at you the way Biden looked at Clinton after Clinton signed Biden’s crime bill into law. Bringing mass incarceration to black Americans.”

The post was quickly censored with an interstitial warning saying it is “False Information.”

A message explaining the censorship says, “Independent fact-checkers say this information has no basis in fact.” Users are told the claim was rated “False” by a USA Today reporter, Doug Stanglin, in July. Zuckerberg Owned Instagram ‘Fact-Checking,’ Filtering Satirical Posts and Memes

Facebook-owned Instagram is “fact-checking” satirical posts and memes on the platform via its third-party fact-checkers, and filtering them from hashtag and “explore” results.

A spokeswoman for Facebook confirmed that satirical images of far-left climate activist Greta Thunberg had indeed been tagged with warnings that “fact-checkers” had rated the images as “false,” as originally reported by Summit.

“We work with third-party fact-checkers to help identify, review, and label false information on Instagram,” said the spokeswoman. “When content is rated as false or partly false by a third-party fact-checker, we reduce its distribution by removing it from Explore and hashtag pages. In addition, we label the content so people can better decide for themselves what to read, trust, and share.” . . .

This is not the first time that a Facebook property has confused satire with factual assertions. Facebook itself landed itself in controversy last summer when it warned the Christian conservative satirical website The Babylon Bee that its content would be suppressed on the platform if it continued to post articles that were disputed by fact-checkers.
