The tragic deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans found frozen outside their friend Jordan Willis’ home on January 9 have left their families questioning the official account and raising suspicions of foul play. The victims, David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were discovered lifeless on the property, prompting an ongoing investigation.
Willis, unaware of the bodies outside, claimed to have slept for nearly 48 hours after the Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The families, anxiously awaiting toxicology reports, are skeptical of Willis’ version of events.
David Harrington’s father, Jon Harrington, expressed disbelief at the circumstances and voiced suspicions about Willis’ involvement. Harrington’s mother, Jennifer Marquez, echoed these concerns, suggesting that Willis might have played a role in the deaths. The families reject the possibility of a simple drug overdose, pointing to the healthy state of the men before their deaths.
Jon Harrington, convinced that there may be more to the story, has engaged with the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office, expressing doubts about their deaths being dismissed as mere overdoses. Marquez emphasized that her son, while engaging in recreational activities with friends, would not have knowingly overdosed. She questioned Willis’ credibility, highlighting his refusal to take drug or alcohol tests and his alleged lack of cooperation with the investigation.
Despite the families’ suspicions, Kansas City police have asserted that Willis is not a suspect, and the deaths are not being treated as a homicide. No arrests have been made, and authorities maintain that the investigation is ongoing.
A fifth friend who attended the gathering and left around midnight on Sunday claimed that all four were alive and watching Jeopardy. Willis allowed officers to search his home, but the families remain skeptical, questioning the integrity of the investigation.
Willis, a senior principal scientist at IAVI Neutralizing Antibody Center’s Schief Lab in Kansas City, has reportedly moved from the rental home, citing fear of “retaliation.”
