Beware of Those Advising GOP To Unilaterally Disarm

Isn’t it ironic that Republicans keep receiving advice to be more conciliatory and work with President Obama while President Obama not only is receiving the opposite advice but fully intends to be even more divisive in his second term?

On “Meet the Press” last week, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said: “There’s also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the (Republican) party. What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.”

That is outrageously false, but lest you think hypersensitivity to race is all that’s bothering Powell, he made clear that he also has a problem with the GOP’s policies. He said: “In recent years, there’s been a significant shift to the right, and we have seen what that shift has produced: two losing presidential campaigns.” A shift to the right? You’ve got to be kidding. Why isn’t Powell concerned about Obama’s uber-leftism?

“Republican” Powell also said that the GOP has become the party of the rich and that it needs to address the issues of education, immigration and climate change before the next election — you know, to imitate Barack Obama’s party of moderation. Here again, it’s disgraceful that Powell has endorsed Obama’s class warfare slander.

This past Sunday, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on “Face the Nation,” was only slightly more charitable toward her own party. She said, “The Republican Party certainly has to stop turning off large segments of the population.”

Rush Limbaugh: Obama ‘Wants People to Snap’

PALM BEACH, Fla. – President Obama’s newly announced gun-control initiatives are intended as “revenge” against many Americans, as he’s pushing them “to snap,” claims top-rated radio host Rush Limbaugh.

“I think he wants people to snap. I think Obama is challenging everybody’s sanity,” Limbaugh said on his show Wednesday afternoon. “Obama [is] literally pushing people to snap, attacking the very sanity of the country.”

Obama announced a sweeping set of directives he intends will cut down on Americans’ access to guns, setting the stage for a constitutional battle with states where lawmakers already are openly defying the latest power grab by the White House.

His plan would demand federal access to the details every time an uncle sells a .22 to a nephew, would ban some weapons outright through a limit on ammunition capacity, would waive medical privacy laws in some cases so individuals can be reported, and others.

Coming on the heels of a recent birth-control mandate, Limbaugh noted, “All of this is so in our face. Everything that people hold dear is under assault. Deliberately making people upset. This is not what presidents do.”

Rush Limbaugh Takes On GOP Critics

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh hit back hard Monday against Republican critics who say his commentary hurt GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s failed presidential run.

GOP strategist Mike Murphy said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the primaries were “driving the Republican brand right now to disaster” and that Republicans needed to acquire a view of the country “that’s not right out of Rush Limbaugh’s dream journal.”

Limbaugh’s response: “What, folks, did I or any of you have to do with the Republican primary? Did not Murphy get the candidate he wanted? All these consultants, do you realize they get rich no matter who wins or loses? Little-known secret. They get rich no matter who wins or loses,” Limbaugh said on his radio show, according to a show transcript.

“But [in] the Republican primary, as far as he’s concerned, there were too many conservatives in it saying too many stupid things,” Limbaugh added. “We need to get rid of conservatism, is what is he’s saying.”

Next up was GOP strategist Steve Schmidt, who last week at a University of Delaware panel discussion said that Limbaugh’s “white, 65 plus and rural” audience is “not what the country looks like anymore” and that Limbaugh was driving a message of “total ludicrous nonsense.”
