They come as the School Nutrition Association has called on Congress to amend the First Lady’s school meal restrictions, which have led to ‘1.4million fewer children choosing school lunch each day’ . . .

In the recent batch of photos, one female student tweeted a photo of a slice of moldy salami and another piece of meat in a wrap, with the caption: ‘Had a yummy lunch today guys! Salami and mold. (Read more about the disgusting school lunches HERE)

Thanks Michelle Obama: GOP Pushes For School Lunch Exemptions

Michelle Obama has been a champion of increased health standards for school lunches in her time as First Lady. As part of her Let’s Move! program and the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, there have been new nutrition standards for public schools. Republicans say that the standards are unnecessary, intrusive, trample on local school perogatives, and is too expensive. Congress is making moves to relax these new guidelines:

Some school nutrition directors have lobbied for a break, saying the rules have proven to be costly and restrictive. House Republicans have said they are an overreach, and have pushed a one-year waiver that would allow schools to opt out of the standards for the next school year if they lost money on meal programs over a six-month period.

What French Kids Eat For School Lunch (It Puts Americans To Shame!)

By Rebecca Plantier.

I walked into the dining room to see tables of four already set — silverware, silver bread basket, off-white ceramic plates, cloth napkins, clear glasses and water pitchers laid out ready for lunch.

I was standing inside my children’s public elementary school cafeteria, or “cantine” as the French call it, in our local town near Annecy, France. As part of my research into why French kids aren’t fat, the local city council gave me a tour of the public school’s cantine and kitchen and let me ask any question that came to mind.

There are many theories as to why the French, and French children in particular, do not suffer from weight problems, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension like their American counterparts. Eating moderate quantities of fresh and freshly prepared food at set times of the day is definitely one of the most convincing reasons why they stay lean. Daily exercise, in the form of three recess periods (two 15-minute and one 60-minute recess every day) and walking or biking to and from school, is another.

So what do French kids eat at school?

Menus are set up two months in advance by the cantine management staff, and then sent to a certified dietitian who makes small “corrections.” The dietitian might take out a small chocolate éclair and replace it with a kiwi for dessert if she thinks there’s too much sugar that week. Or she may modify suggested menus by adding more or fewer carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits, or protein to keep the balance right.

This doesn’t happen every day: a pro-life message in the Obama White House – from a celebrity, no less.

Washington, D.C.’s WUSA9 reported on an event First Lady Michelle Obama hosted in honor of military children. The event, which consisted of local high school students, included pro-life hip-hop star Common as a special guest. Referencing the power of music, Common revealed how one of his songs inspired his fans to veer from abortion.

At the White House event “documenting the impact of music throughout the course of history,” Common admitted, “Our music can really change the perspective of someone’s life.” He explained, “I honestly had a song about abortion and I’ve had people come to me and say that song was the reason why I decided to have my child.”

Michelle Obama Does it Again: Confuses Democratic Senate Candidate With Republican Rival

Photo Credit: APMichelle Obama made yet another flub on the campaign trail Thursday when she apparently confused Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall with his Republican rival.

Obama spoke in Denver Thursday as part of a campaign event for Udall, who is engaged in a heated battle with his Republican opponent, Rep. Cory Gardner.

She touted Udall’s Senate record in her speech, and called him a “fifth-generation Coloradan.”

“Mark understands what makes this state special,” she said.

The only problem? Udall is not a fifth-generation Coloradan. In fact, he was born in Arizona and his father, former Rep. Mo Udall, served as a congressman from that state for decades.

Michelle Obama Tells Students to Stop Rebelling Against Her… Says “Change is Hard”

Photo Credit: WisPolitics.com / Creative CommonsFirst Lady Michelle Obama has a simple message for students across the nation who don’t like her school lunch program: “Don’t be mad.”

Obama said during a recent interview cited by The Hill that she understood a certain amount of “grumbling” because “change is hard” (H/T WZ).

The first lady’s signature Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act has limited the amount of calories, fat, salt, and other ingredients in foods served to students in school breakfasts and lunches. This year, additional regulations covering vending machines took effect.

The report said that Obama thought children would enjoy “vegetables that have a little flavor, sweetness.” Examples given were broccoli, celery, and carrots.

Ah, yes … the sweet savor of broccoli. It’s almost enough to put one into a diabetic coma, just thinking about it.

Minnesota’s Largest High School Ditches Michelle O’s Lunch Rules

Photo Credit: EAG NewsThere’s a sign in the lunchroom of Minnesota’s Sartell High School: Students can choose two packets of barbecue sauce, or three ketchup packets, or two ketchups and a mustard, or just one packet of mayonnaise.

The new condiment quotas are the product of new federal regulations that strictly limit calories, fat, sodium, sugar and most other nutritional elements of school snacks and lunch foods.

The rules, championed by First Lady Michelle Obama as a means to combat childhood obesity, are part of the Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The measure, implemented in phases since 2012, overhauled the National School Lunch Program to force schools that receive federal lunch funding to offer “healthier” meals and school snacks for students.

But the overbearing regulations have thus far convinced a record number of students to bring their lunches from home. Lunchrooms across the country are experiencing significant revenue loss, and increasing waste due to a requirement that all students take a fruit or vegetable, whether they eat it or not.

As a result, many districts are opting to forego their federal funding to serve students food they want to eat.

School Employee on Snack Rules: ‘You Cannot Buy a Tic Tac in a Nebraska School, I Checked’

Photo Credit: EAG NewsSchool nutrition experts in Nebraska are struggling to comply with new federal snack regulations championed by First Lady Michelle Obama.

“I think we’ve gone too far, too fast,” Diane Zipay, director of nutritional services for the Westside School District told KIETV.com. “And I don’t think it’s a real-world environment. We might have changed the school but we haven’t changed the child or our world.”

The federal snack rules take effect this year for school districts across the country that participate in the federal free and reduced lunch program. They restrict snack foods sold at schools to those with at least 50 percent whole grain, with low sugar, fat and sodium content. Each snack must also come in under 200 calories, according to the news site.

That means a lot of popular snacks are now off the table, including donuts, brownies, potato chips, full flavor pop, candy bars, and most other foods teenagers prefer. Even salt shakers and packets are now illegal.

Nanny State Targets Grocery Stores

After having made her mark on school lunches, you know, replacing mac n’ cheese for quinoa salad thereby leaving kids across the nation hungry and unhappy, first lady Michelle Obama is moving on to bigger and better things, it seems.

Via The Washington Free Beacon:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is suggesting major changes to grocery stores to “nudge” Americans to purchase healthier foods when they shop.

The agency commissioned an “expert panel” to make recommendations on how to guide the more than 47 million Americans on food stamps into spending their benefits on fruits and vegetables.

The group released an 80-pagereportthis month presenting their ideas, which include talking shopping carts and a marketing strategy for grocery chains that would feature better store lighting for healthier items.
