College Student, 20, Arrested for Allegedly Hurling Antisemitic Comment at Dave Portnoy During Pizza Review

A Mississippi college student was arrested for allegedly hurling an antisemitic comment at Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy as he filmed a pizza review, according to authorities and reports.

Patrick McClintock, 20, was arrested Monday after a viral video allegedly captured him yelling, “F–k the Jews” toward Portnoy, who is Jewish, as he filmed a “One Bite” pizza review in Starkville on Friday, The Starkville Police Department confirmed to the Reflector, Mississippi State University’s student newspaper.

McClintock was a junior and a mechanical engineering major at Mississippi State University, the university’s campus paper reported.

He voluntarily withdrew from MSU as a student on Monday afternoon, a university spokesperson confirmed to The Post.

McClintock was hit with a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. A warrant for his arrest had been issued over the weekend, police told the outlet. (Read more from “College Student, 20, Arrested for Allegedly Hurling Antisemitic Comment at Dave Portnoy During Pizza Review” HERE)

Shocking Discovery: Newborn Found Behind Dumpsters Leads to Two in Custody

A disturbing incident unfolded last week in a Mississippi mobile home park, as authorities discovered a newborn baby girl abandoned behind dumpsters. The subsequent arrest of two individuals, Marlid Susana Carballo, 27, and Arsides Gomez, 27, has brought attention to the troubling circumstances surrounding the infant’s abandonment.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reported that the baby, estimated to be around two or three weeks old, was found by three men disposing of trash in the Grove of Cayce Mobile Home Park, situated approximately 35 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee. The infant, nestled in a car seat and wrapped in blankets, was heard crying by the individuals near the dumpsters.

Following the discovery, the baby girl was swiftly transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where she is reported to be in good condition. Authorities have decided to release the infant into the custody of the Marshall County Department of Human Services.

Marlid Susana Carballo and Arsides Gomez now face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and false reporting of a crime, as reported by WREG. The circumstances leading to the abandonment remain unclear, prompting investigators to return to the scene to search for clues and review security camera footage. Additionally, authorities have planned to examine the child’s car seat for prints and DNA in an effort to gather more information.

Commander of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Kelly McMillen, urged the public to come forward with any information related to the incident, stating, “We’re not even sure if this child is from our area. If you’re aware of anybody that’s had a child abducted or that’s been taken by force of violence, you need to contact us immediately.”

The arrests of Carballo and Gomez were announced by the sheriff’s office on social media, though details surrounding the charges remain limited.

The incident has reignited discussions about Safe Haven laws, existing in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. These laws aim to protect newborns by providing parents with alternatives to criminal abandonment. In Mississippi, the state’s Safe Haven law permits parents to surrender a baby who is 45 days old or younger to specific locations, including hospitals, firefighters/EMS, licensed adoption agencies, and designated baby boxes, as outlined by Safe Haven Baby Boxes.

Leftists Ignore Black Students’ Higher Success Rate in Conservative States

Leftists across America are ignoring the success stories for black students in conservative states, and a commentator for the Washington Examiner is wondering why.

It is in an opinion piece by Corey Walker, who focuses on education among other topics in reporting, that the problem is raised: “Black students are thriving in red states and blue states fail them.”. . .

In “deep-red Mississippi, America’s poorest state,” reading achievement scores have soared in recent years, the report says.

That boost followed a decision to teach students using a phonics-based reading method, a “direct contrast to the ‘whole word’ method touted in liberal states. The state also dispatched coaches to work with teachers at schools with especially poor results,” the report said. . .

According to the report, the state’s “NAEP scores soared from near the bottom of the nation to around the middle of the pack. Moreover, Mississippi ranks 46th in public school spending, showing that shoveling more money into the school system is not necessary to yield positive results and that poverty is not necessarily a barrier to academic achievement.” (Read more from “Leftists Ignore Black Students’ Higher Success Rate in Conservative States” HERE)

Woman Claims Her Missing Son Was Found Days After His Disappearance and Buried Without Her Knowledge

This week, a Mississippi woman said in an interview that her son who was reported missing last year was discovered dead days after his disappearance and buried in a “pauper’s field” without her knowledge.

According to NBC News, Gretchen Hankins’ 39-year-old son Jonathan David Hankins left their home in May 2022 to spend the weekend with friends. He said he would return on Sunday. Jonathan Hankins never returned. . .

When her son never returned, Gretchen Hankins called the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and reported her son missing. A search was announced on Facebook, through the local media, and posted on a national database. Volunteers began searching for Jonathan Hankins. . .

NBC News figured out what happened to Jonathan Hankins this fall by examining documents related to people being buried in a “pauper’s field” in Hinds County, Mississippi (via NBC News):

NBC News solved the mystery this fall in a matter of minutes. As part of an investigation into people being buried in a Hinds County pauper’s field without their families’ knowledge, reporters examined a register of all the recent burials and compared it with a publicly available list of missing Mississippians. Jonathan’s name was on both.

After obtaining documents through public records requests to confirm the match, NBC News visited Gretchen at home in Florence, Mississippi, on Dec. 4 and shared what reporters had learned: Jonathan had been found dead on May 23, 2022, three days after leaving home, in a hotel room in nearby Jackson. Investigators quickly verified his identity. But the Hinds County coroner’s office and the Jackson Police Department, which both responded to the scene, failed to tell his family, and the county buried him in a grave marked only by a number: 645.

State Reports Disturbing Increase in Babies Born With Syphilis

Mississippi reported a 900 percent increase in babies born with congenital syphilis in the last five years, according to an analysis published Saturday.

Hospitals in Mississippi treated at least 102 cases of congenital syphilis in 2021, compared to just 10 cases in 2016, according to data shared by NBC News. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that passes from mother to child during pregnancy, and is a life-threatening disorder that can sometimes go months without showing symptoms.

Children born with syphilis who go more than three months without treatment can suffer significant complications, NBC noted. The disease can have wide-ranging impacts, including the deformation of bone structure, jaundice, liver and spleen enlargement and significant brain and nerve problems such as blindness and deafness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. . .

The growth in congenital syphilis is not unique to Mississippi. National data from the CDC suggest that the frequency of its diagnosis has doubled from 941 in 2017 to 2,677 in 2021. A majority of children born with syphilis in Mississippi were born to black mothers, NBC noted. (Read more from “State Reports Disturbing Increase in Babies Born With Syphilis” HERE)

Horrifying Security Camera Footage Shows Robber ‘Executed’ a ‘Very Gracious’ Store Clerk: Police

A horrifying video showed a murder that unfolded in Tupelo, Mississippi, at a convenience store on Sunday where a “very gracious” man working at the store was allegedly “executed” by the suspect, police said.

The Daily Journal reported that police charged 26-year-old Chris Copeland with capital murder for allegedly shooting 33-year-old Parmvir Singh in the back of the head after ordering him to get on the floor of the Chevron Food Mart.

Tupelo Police Detective Wes Kloac said that security camera footage from inside the store showed the suspect walking into the store, pulling a gun out of his waistband, and pointing it at Singh. . .

“The clerk is very gracious and even gave him a stack of money he didn’t ask for,” Kloac testified. “He opened the safe for him and gave him a bank bag.”

The video showed Singh get on the floor and the suspect jumping over the counter. “(The suspect) then walked up behind Mr. Singh and, at point blank range, executed him,” Kloac said. Black Americans Sue U.S. Farms for Replacing Them with Foreign Workers

Black Americans who spent most of their lives working on Mississippi farms are suing their former employer after they were replaced by foreign workers on the H-2A visa program.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, accuses Pitts Farms of laying off a number of black Americans, only to replace them with foreign visa workers from South Africa. . .

In interviews with the New York Times, black Americans said they had spent most of their lives earning a living as farm workers at Pitts Farms. The work is part of a long history wherein black Americans along the Mississippi Delta have spent grueling hours on farms doing intense physical labor.

One of the black Americans suing Pitts Farms, 50-year-old Richard Strong, told the Times that he has worked on farms for more than 25 years. His father and grandfather did so as well, as well as his enslaved ancestors.

Strong said about 10 years ago is when he noticed farms along the Mississippi Delta began importing foreign visa workers, almost entirely from South Africa. When the first groups arrived, Strong said he helped train them. Now, more than 100 U.S. farms along the Delta employ foreign visa workers from South Africa over Americans. Breaking Coronavirus Isolation in One State Could Mean 5 Years in Prison

Mississippi will punish residents who don’t isolate after testing positive for COVID-19 with up to 5 years in prison and $5,000 in fines, the state’s Department of Health announced on Friday.

“All persons, including fully vaccinated individuals, infected with COVID-19 must remain in the home or other appropriate residential location for 10 days from onset of illness,” state health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs ordered. “The failure or refusal to obey the lawful order of a health officer is, at a minimum, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $500 or imprisonment for six months or both.” (Read more from “Breaking Coronavirus Isolation in One State Could Mean 5 Years in Prison” HERE)

State Urges Supreme Court To Overturn Roe v. Wade

Abortion rights groups are issuing dire warnings that abortion access is likely to be sharply curtailed across the country if the Supreme Court uses a Mississippi case to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision.

The admonishments come after Mississippi on Thursday explicitly urged the justices to overturn the landmark 1973 ruling when the court reviews Mississippi’s ban on virtually all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. . .

Calling the court’s precedent on abortion “egregiously wrong,” Attorney General Lynn Fitch (R) explicitly set the dispute over Mississippi’s restrictive law on a collision course with the landmark 1973 decision in Roe that first articulated the constitutional right to abortion.

“This Court should overrule Roe and Casey,” Fitch wrote, referring also to the court’s 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. “Roe and Casey are egregiously wrong. They have proven hopelessly unworkable. … And nothing but a full break from those cases can stem the harms they have caused.”

Supreme Court precedent tracing back to Roe prohibits states from banning abortion before fetal viability, which occurs around 24 weeks. The Mississippi law at issue next term creates only narrow exceptions from its 15-week ban. (Read more from “State Urges Supreme Court To Overturn Roe v. Wade” HERE)

Supreme Court Tees up To Review Abortion Bans in Mississippi Case

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to take up a case examining whether Mississippi’s pro-life ban on elective abortions 15 weeks into pregnancy is unconstitutional.

This particular restriction in Missippi was first enacted in 2018 and allowed abortions after the 15-week date for “medical emergencies” and “severe” fetal abnormalities. Lower courts, however, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, blocked the law and ruled that it places an undue burden on women who want to abort their child after the state’s deadline.

By choosing to take up Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, justices on the Supreme Court are teeing up to reevaluate “whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional” and potentially change how landmark abortion cases such as Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey affect Americans.

Pro-life activists celebrated the decision as a step in the right direction to ban abortion altogether.
