Report: Mitch McConnell Fell Disembarking From Plane Weeks Before Freeze Incident

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reportedly tripped and fell while disembarking a plane earlier this month, weeks before his unfortunate freeze incident on Wednesday.

Two sources familiar with the fall incident confirmed to NBC News that it happened at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, adding that he sustained no serious injuries and resumed business as usual that day.

“The fall, which has not been previously reported, occurred July 14 after the flight out of Washington was canceled while everyone was on board,” NBC noted. “McConnell who was a passenger, had a ‘face plant,’ someone who was on the plane at the time but did not witness the fall told NBC News. That passenger also said they spoke to another passenger who helped tend to McConnell.”

The U.S. senator has resorted to using a wheelchair when navigating crowded airports as a precaution. A survivor of polio, he has a history of difficult falls and “sustained a concussion and a cracked rib in a fall in Washington this year,” causing him to spend six weeks away from the Senate. McConnell Staffer Reveals Injury the Lawmaker Suffered Last Week

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has been released from the hospital and will do physical therapy at an in-patient facility, the lawmaker’s communications director David Popp said in a statement on Monday.

Popp noted last week that McConnell had been hospitalized and was being treated for a concussion after tripping — but in the new statement on Monday, Popp noted that the Republican lawmaker had also suffered a rib fracture.

“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well and the Leader was discharged from the hospital today. At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home,” Popp noted in the Monday statement. “Over the course of treatment this weekend, the Leader’s medical team discovered that he also suffered a minor rib fracture on Wednesday, for which he is also being treated.”

“The Leader and Secretary Chao are deeply thankful for the skilled medical care, prayers, and kindness they have received,” Popp added. (Read more from “McConnell Staffer Reveals Injury the Lawmaker Suffered Last Week” HERE)

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Hospitalized

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday evening after falling during a dinner.

“This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner,” a spokesperson for McConnell said. “He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”

No other information was provided. The 81-year-old senator is a polio survivor and has, at times, had issues with balance and sometimes needs to use rails to assist him in walking.

In 2019, McConnell suffered a fractured shoulder after he tripped and fell at his home in Kentucky.

McConnell’s hospitalization comes as Sens. John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have both been hospitalized in recent weeks. (Read more from “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Hospitalized” HERE)

Republicans Vow to Challenge Mitch McConnell for GOP Senate Leader

Republican senators on Tuesday promised to challenge Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for GOP Senate leader during Wednesday’s scheduled leadership vote, potentially marking the first time McConnell would receive a “no” vote in his tenure as leader.

A gang of Senate Republicans on Friday tried to postpone the election but McConnell’s election lieutenant, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), has repeatedly stated the election will occur as planned.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated Tuesday that if McConnell holds the election before the Georgia Senate race is decided, they will object to McConnell’s reelection.

“If the excuse is they are uncontested, they will be contested. I have no doubt about that. If nobody else contests, I’ll contest,” Johnson told a Politico reporter.

Cruz echoed the same strategy. “If leadership refuses to delay the election, if leadership tries to ram through an election tomorrow morning, I think it is extremely likely it will be a contested election,” Cruz said. “That you will see one or more senators run against Mitch McConnell.” (Read more from “Republicans Vow to Challenge Mitch McConnell for GOP Senate Leader” HERE)

‘So Pissed Off, I Cannot Even See Straight’ — Ted Cruz Blames Mitch McConnell for GOP Midterm Losses

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz slammed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell during a Monday podcast, saying the GOP should have won the majority of the upper chamber and blamed McConnell for not supporting Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters.

Cruz released an episode of his podcast, titled Verdict with Ted Cruz, where he and co-host Ben Ferguson discussed the midterm elections and the GOP’s failure to recapture the Senate. Cruz mentioned his frustration, saying there was no excuse for McConnell to abandon Masters, calling it “indefensible.”

“Well, Ben, let me start off by saying I am so pissed off, I cannot even see straight,” Cruz said.

“We had an extraordinary opportunity. We had a generational opportunity. This should have been a fundamental landslide election. We should have won the House and the Senate. We should have a 30, 40, 50 vote majority in the House. We should have 53, 54, 55 Republicans in the Senate,” Cruz continued. Alaska Republicans Call on Kentucky GOP to Censure Mitch McConnell Over Party Interference

Alaska Republicans are calling on the Kentucky GOP to formally censure Sen. Mitch McConnell for the bluegrass senator’s interference in the Alaskan Senate contest against the party-endorsed candidate.

On Thursday, the Alaskan Republican Party’s District 9 central committee passed a resolution to condemn the Senate minority leader’s spending on behalf of Sen. Lisa Murkowski. The incumbent senator running for a fourth full term in the upper chamber is locked in a tight contest against Donald Trump-backed challenger Kelly Tshibaka, who is also endorsed by the Alaskan Republican Party.

McConnell’s super PAC to reclaim the majority, the Senate Leadership Fund, is spending heavily in the race between two Republicans, which the latest polls show is a tied match. According to the Anchorage Daily News, McConnell’s political operation has poured more than $7 million into the Alaskan contest instead of using that money towards ripe pick-up opportunities in Nevada and Arizona.

“We request the Senate Leadership Fund immediately stop the attack ads against Kelly Tshibaka and discontinue all support of Senator Murkowski,” District 9 Republicans demanded. Their resolution went on to demand Kentucky GOP leadership censure their senator for meddling in Alaska’s party affairs while the minority leader abandons efforts at capturing the majority.

“We request the Republican Party of Kentucky leadership act against Senator Mitch McConnell for his inappropriate behavior against Alaska Republicans and Republican endorsed candidate Kelly Tshibaka,” the Alaska Republicans wrote. Where’s Mitch? McConnell Remains Silent on FBI Raid at Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has remained silent on the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s estate at Mar-A-Lago.

McConnell did not respond to Breitbart News’s request for comment on the shocking incident, nor has he released a public statement about the historic raid at the time of publication.

The GOP leader has not commented or demonstrated concern about this historic precedent at a time when Trump may mount a comeback campaign against President Joe Biden in 2024.

Three GOP senators in leadership positions have issued public statements condemning the raid, including Senate Republican Conference chair John Barrasso (R-WY), National Republican Senatorial Committee chair Rick Scott (R-FL), and Senate Republican Conference vice chair Joni Ernst (R-IA).

“When Republicans retake the majority in the Senate, there will be a thorough & aggressive investigation into the @FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago,” Scott tweeted. “Everything needs to be on the table for AG Garland, including impeachment if he doesn’t come out TODAY & explain what happened.” (Read more from “Where’s Mitch? McConnell’s Leadership PAC Announces a $7M Ad Buy to Back Murkowski Against Trump-Backed Rival

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership PAC announced a $7 million ad buy Monday on behalf of Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who is fending off a primary challenge from the Trump-backed Kelly Tshibaka.

So far, that’s the only Republican primary McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund is getting involved in – with most of the cash being directed to six general election battles starting in September.

‘We don’t seek out opportunities to be involved in primaries,’ Senate Leadership Fund President Steven Law told Politico.

McConnell, however, has made it clear he’s behind Murkowski – who’s held her Alaska Senate seat for 20 years.

The investment is similar to how much she spent on her 2016 re-election campaign, CNN pointed out. (Read more from “McConnell’s Leadership PAC Announces a $7M Ad Buy to Back Murkowski Against Trump-Backed Rival” HERE)

Mitch McConnell Says ‘No Question’ Ketanji Brown Jackson Is Qualified for the Supreme Court

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said there is “no question” that Ketanji Brown Jackson has the qualifications to be a Supreme Court justice.

The Republican senator from Kentucky met with Judge Jackson on Wednesday, and was also complimentary of President Joe Biden’s pick for the highest court in the land during a radio appearance on “The Guy Benson Show.”

“I think she’s intelligent, very likely progressive. The Senate Republican minority intends to treat the nominee respectfully,” McConnell said.

“I’m not at all interested, for example, in what someone may have written in her high school yearbook,” McConnell added. This appeared to be in reference to the contentious 2018 Senate hearing for now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was selected by former President Donald Trump.

President Biden has nominated Jackson to fill the Supreme Court vacancy that will be left open after the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer. Biden had promised to name a Black woman to the Supreme Court upon taking office. Jackson currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and would make history as the first Black woman on the Supreme Court if she is confirmed. What’s more, Jackson once clerked for Breyer. (Read more from “Mitch McConnell Says ‘No Question’ Ketanji Brown Jackson Is Qualified for the Supreme Court” HERE)

Democrats Say They Will Accept Mcconnell Debt Ceiling Offer

Democratic senators on Wednesday signaled they will accept a proposal by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to raise the debt limit for two months to avoid a potential economic crisis.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) noted that accepting McConnell’s offer to vote to raise the debt limit to a certain number high enough to cover the nation’s financial obligations until December would amount to “a temporary victory.”

“In terms of a temporary lifting of the debt ceiling, we view that as a victory, a temporary victory with more work to do,” she told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Baldwin made her comments after leaving a closed-door Senate Democratic Conference meeting where lawmakers discussed McConnell’s offer floated earlier in the day.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is expected to announce his party’s position on McConnell’s offer Wednesday afternoon. (Read more from “Democrats Say They Will Accept Mcconnell Debt Ceiling Offer” HERE)
