The President Asked Oprah to Help Him Promote Obamacare ‘But She Refused Because She Feels Burned by the White House’

Photo Credit: AFP/Getty Oprah Winfrey has been notably distancing herself from President Obama and First Lady Michelle and apparently her latest slight came against Obamacare.

The media icon was asked to attend a meeting at the White House along with other celebrities to see how they could help create some positive publicity for the Affordable Care Act.

Rather than jumping on board like Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, Oprah reportedly quickly said that she would not be attending the meeting.

‘All of Oprah’s top people thought she would go, because when the president invites you to the White House, most people automatically say yes, but Oprah said she didn’t have the time or inclination to go. It wasn’t like she had to think it over. It was an immediate, flat-out, unequivocal no,’ an Oprah advisor told journalist Ed Klein.

Klein wrote a book, The Amateur, about President Obama’s first term in office and is currently working on a second.

Lance Armstrong To Address Scandal on Oprah

Former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong is slated to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s “Next Chapter” on Jan. 17, at a time when people familiar with his thinking say he has been considering a confession of his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Mr. Armstrong has denied doping for nearly 15 years, since his first Tour de France victory in 1999, and he has lashed out at people who questioned whether he used drugs to win his seven Tours de France.

In recent weeks, however, Mr. Armstrong has been consulting with associates at his home in Hawaii over his next steps. He believes he can rebuild his reputation and understands that a public statement on his alleged doping is an important part of that. One possibility is that Mr. Armstrong may seek to emphasize that any doping he did was years ago, according to people familiar with his thinking.

Mr. Armstrong also has been weighing the possibility of writing a tell-all book, according to people familiar with the matter. These people say that Mr. Armstrong has been approached by several authors interested in co-writing his tell-all and that Mr. Armstrong, still undecided about the project, hasn’t worked out a deal with a publisher or writer.

Mr. Armstrong’s lawyer hasn’t returned a call seeking comment.

At Least Michelle Obama Will Still Have a Job: TV Exec’s Eyeing Her as Talk Show Host

Her husband could be out of a job in 48 hours, but Michelle Obama could step into a new career as a chat show host.

TV executives believe the First Lady would be a natural to become a talk show host. She has even been compared to Oprah Winfrey, the queen of chat show hosts and one of the most recognisable names in show business.

“Personally I would like to see her in the White House,” said Hilary Estey McLoughlin, president of syndication company behind the Ellen DeGeneres show. “But if she were not going to be in the White House, I’d love to see her as the host of a show. She’s amazing.”

And former CNN president Jon Klein agreed that the First Lady would be snapped up by TV chiefs if her husband does not win a second term in office. “Daytime syndicators are desperate for a new voice and she is tailor made for it,” he told TV Guide magazine.
