Poll: Majority of Americans Favor Jesus Over Santa on Christmas

A majority of Americans still believe Jesus Christ — not Santa — is the reason for the Christmas season, according to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports.

Out of 1,000 U.S. American adults polled between Dec. 8-12, 57 percent “believe Christmas should be more about Jesus Christ than about Santa Claus.” Only 22 percent put Santa first and 20 percent are undecided.

“Two years ago, 63 percent said Christmas should be more about Jesus. Support for Jesus as the primary reason for the holiday which celebrates his birth has ranged as high as 76 percent in 2012,” according to the poll, which has a ± 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.

Ninety-percent of adults celebrate Christmas in their family, an increase from 85 percent two years ago. Out of those Americans, 52 percent celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday, while 37 percent view it as a secular holiday. Eleven percent are unsure.

Boy Cries After Mall Santa Tells Him No Nerf Guns for Christmas

. . .In all seriousness, it takes a lot to screw up as a mall Santa. It’s not the most pleasant work, you need to have a lot of patience, but making a kid cry because you want to peddle some Moms Demand gun control nonsense is a special kind of idiocy. What are you doing, Saint Nick? If you’re going to do this, at least take a page from Billy Bob Thornton’s book and be drunk, vulgar, and a total degenerate. Yeah, in Illinois, some boy wanted a Nerf gun for Christmas. This idiot Santa said no (via The Hill):

A mall in Chicago has apologized and delivered a surprise to a young boy who was told by a mall Santa Claus that he could not have a toy gun for Christmas.

Video posted by the boy’s mother on Facebook shows Michael asking a Santa at the Harlem Irving Plaza Mall for a nerf gun.

“No, I … nope. No guns,” the Santa replied. “Not even a Nerf gun. If your dad wants to bring it to you that’s fine, but I can’t bring it to you. What else would you like?”

The boy eventually breaks into tears.

CNN Hypes New Kids’ Book About Santa’s Husband

On CNN’s New Day Sunday, the show devoted a four-minute segment to the new children’s book, Santa’s Husband, which portrays Santa Claus as a gay man who gets married to another man. The segment included as guests the author, Daniel Kibblesmith, and illustrator Ashley Quach, with Kibblesmith recalling that he was partially inspired to write the book because of the complaints that are made each year about a “war on Christmas.”

At 6:12 a.m. ET, CNN co-anchor Christi Paul plugged the interview: “There’s a new children’s book out this Christmas — takes us inside Santa’s wedding. We meet Santa’s husband David. We’re going to talk to the author and illustrator ahead.”

In the second plug at 6:51 a.m. ET, Paul and co-host Victor Blackwell vaguely admitted that some are “not so happy” about the book:

PAUL: Still ahead, a holiday children’s book tells the story of Santa Claus with a fresh, new twist. There are some families, though, not so happy about the book’s maybe not so hidden agenda.

VICTOR BLACKWELL: Yeah, they call it a political agenda. We have the author and the illustrator here with us live to talk about their new book, Santa’s Husband.
