Internal Records Reveal Uber Faced Over 400,000 Sexual Misconduct Reports in Five-Year Span

Newly unsealed court documents have pulled back the curtain on the scale of sexual misconduct reports lodged against rideshare giant Uber, raising renewed concerns about safety for passengers—particularly women—who rely on the app for late-night travel.

From 2017 to 2022, Uber received over 400,000 reports of sexual assault or misconduct in the United States, according to information reviewed by the courts and whistleblower testimony. That equates to one reported incident every eight minutes, on average, over a five-year period.

Despite publicly advertising itself as a safer alternative to traditional transportation, Uber has struggled behind the scenes with a persistent pattern of abuse claims. The company’s internal safety research reveals that such incidents are most likely to occur on weekends and late at night, often involving rides requested near nightlife venues. Women are disproportionately the victims—whether passengers or drivers—and the alleged perpetrators are typically male.

Internal teams at Uber, including data scientists and safety officers, reportedly flagged these patterns years ago. However, former employees claim the company failed to adequately inform users of these risk factors, choosing instead to focus on marketing and expanding its customer base.

“There were tools we knew would reduce harm,” one former staffer said, “but implementing them across the platform would have clashed with growth goals.”

Proposed safety features—such as in-car cameras and the ability for women to request female drivers—were piloted but not made mandatory. According to internal presentations, Uber had even developed algorithmic models aimed at predicting ride pairings likely to result in misconduct, but the models lacked sufficient accuracy.

Cameras were seen internally as a more promising solution, with experts noting that even the presence of a visible camera (active or not) could deter inappropriate behavior. However, the initiative was shelved amid concerns it would undermine the company’s contractor-based business model and alienate drivers.

Hannah Nilles, Uber’s head of safety for the Americas, acknowledged the 400,000+ reports but downplayed their severity, claiming about 75% were categorized as “less serious,” including inappropriate comments or lewd language. She also raised the possibility that some reports were made dishonestly to secure fare refunds, though admitted Uber had not yet fully audited the data.

Critics argue such framing ignores the emotional impact of unwanted sexual behavior and fails to reckon with the probable underreporting by victims. Fear of retaliation, social stigma, or simply not being believed—especially when a driver knows where a passenger lives—are all powerful deterrents to reporting.

As litigation moves forward and more internal documents become public, legal and advocacy groups are demanding systemic change at Uber and within the rideshare industry. Many are calling for increased transparency, stronger oversight of drivers, and a reassessment of the contractor model that has shielded the company from responsibility.

Some 150+ organizations, including legal experts and women’s rights advocates, have urged Uber to adopt mandatory in-vehicle safety protocols, greater passenger-driver matching controls, and robust third-party safety audits.

Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries Took Male Models Into Room To Be Sexually Assaulted After Fake Job Interviews, Lawyer Claims

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries has been accused of sexually assaulting male models after he conducted fake job interviews.

Jeffries, 80, and his longtime partner Matthew Smith, were arrested in West Palm Beach on sex trafficking charges on Tuesday. A third man, Jim Jacobson, was arrested in the same case in Wisconsin.

Attorney Brad Edwards, who is representing more than a dozen alleged victims in a lawsuit, told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that Jeffries used his role at Abercrombie to lure young male models and sexually abuse them.

Former Santa Claus Impersonator Accused of Sexually Abusing Girls as Young as 5

A 78-year-old former Santa Claus impersonator is accused of sexually abusing girls as young as 5 years old and faces 13 counts of child abuse, according to authorities in North Carolina.

Bevier Hasbrouck Sleight III was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual abuse, abusive sexual contact, offensive touching, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor on Aug. 29.

4 Students Took Turns Forcibly Penetrating 3rd-Grade Girl in Restroom, Blocked Her Escape, Got 1-Day Suspensions: Lawsuit

A lawsuit claims four students took turns forcibly penetrating a third-grade girl in a restroom stall, blocked her escape, and received one-day suspensions, OregonLive reported.

The lawsuit claims employees of both Portland Public Schools and a Multnomah County-sponsored after-school program operated by nonprofit Latino Network failed to protect the girl — who was 9 at the time — from being sexually assaulted, the outlet noted.

The girl’s family filed the lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court last month; it seeks up to $9 million in damages on grounds including negligence, lack of oversight, and failure to protect a vulnerable person from abuse, OregonLive said.

The lawsuit alleges that when the student was in third grade at Scott Elementary in northeast Portland in 2022, one of her classmates touched her genitals over her clothing without her permission during a class a district educator was overseeing, the outlet said.

In a separate incident that same school year, the suit states that another student tried to kiss the girl without her permission, and she hit him to protect herself, OregonLive reported. Russell Brand Vehemently Denies Sexual Assault Allegations in Viral Video Statement

Actor and podcast host Russell Brand on Saturday posted a video online denying allegations of sexual assault, which were reported hours later by The Sunday Times, and accusing the outlet of engaging in a “coordinated attack” to defame him.

The Sunday Times report said four women, whose names have not been disclosed, have accused Brand of sexual misconduct from 2006 to 2013, which was the height of Brand’s mainstream fame. One woman claims Brand raped her, while another alleged victim, who is now 31, says Brand sexually assaulted her when she was 16 years old (the age of consent in the UK).

“Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute,” Brand said on video platform Rumble.

“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies. And as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous,” he continued. “Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual.” . . .

“There are witnesses whose evidence directly contradicts the narratives that these two mainstream media outlets are trying to construct, apparently, in what seems to me to be a coordinated attack,” Brand countered. “I feel like I’m being attacked, and obviously they are working very closely together.” (Read more from “Russell Brand Vehemently Denies Sexual Assault Allegations in Viral Video Statement” HERE)

U.S. Judge Offers Choice to Man Convicted of Sexual Assault: Join the Military or Go to Jail

A Kentucky judge recently offered a man convicted of sexual assault an unusual choice: Enlist in the military or serve prison time.

Brandon Scott Price, 28, a former Franklin County Regional Jail guard, was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault, a Class A misdemeanor, earlier this month. On account of his crime, Price received a 12-month prison sentence with two years of probation — with one strange caveat.

Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate informed Price during his sentencing that he could have his jail time waived if he decided to join the U.S. military, according to the State Journal.

“If you don’t enroll in 30 days, you can report to the Franklin County Regional Jail,” Wingate said. “You are under the gun, young man. You gotta do it.”

The outlet noted that Price was initially charged with third-degree sodomy, a Class D felony, but had his charges reduced. The former jail guard was convicted of sexually assaulting a female inmate in January 2019 after transporting her to the hospital. State Replaces ‘Sex Offender’ With ‘Adults Who Commit Sexual Offenses’ Due to ‘Stigma’

Colorado’s Sex Offender Management Board voted Monday to stop using the term “sex offender” in treatment contexts and begin using “adults who commit sexual offenses” since it’s a less stigmatizing term for such individuals, KCNC-TV reported.

The terminology change is meant to reflect “person-first” language, the station said, and only affects use in treatment. KCNC added that the term “sex offender” won’t change in the state’s law or criminal justice system. . .

Kimberly Corbin, a rape survivor, spoke out against changing the term “sex offender” to something less stigmatizing, KCNC noted.

“I’m involved today after hearing that it would be improper or offensive in some manner for me to refer to the man who raped me as a sex offender,” Corbin said, according to the station.

She added to KCNC that “it’s very, very damaging” when people are “labeled” as a result of their “gender, race, sexuality, [or] ability” since “those are not their choices”; however, Corbin emphasized that sex offenders make choices to commit sexual crimes and don’t require a less stigmatizing label. Loudoun Official Claimed He Might Not Have Seen Email Informing Him of Sex Assault — Despite Responding to It

Internal Loudoun County School Board emails show a shifting explanation about how much school board members knew about a bathroom sex assault, with one member writing to the superintendent in the wake of cover-up allegations that he might have “missed an email” informing him about it — even though he previously responded to that very email asking a follow-up question, after also hearing about the incident from someone else.

“From my memory I recall” only learning about it “during the public comment process,” Democrat board member Harris Mahedavi wrote to the superintendent on October 12, one day after The Daily Wire revealed that a girl had been raped in a bathroom May 28, that the superintendent had denied it in a public board meeting June 22, and that the school system had quietly transferred the assailant to another school, where he was arrested for a different sex assault October 6.

As has been previously reported, immediately after the May rape, Ziegler wrote to the school board members saying, “The purpose of this email is to provide you with information regarding an incident that occurred at Stone Bridge HS. This afternoon a female student alleged that a male student sexually assaulted her in the restroom.”

Three weeks later, on June 22, Ziegler said in a public board meeting that “To my knowledge, we don’t have any record of assaults occurring in our restrooms.” None of the school board members raised the discrepancy. ‘Loudoun County Protects Rapists’: Students Walk Out Over Trans Bathroom Rape Coverup

Hundreds of Loudoun County, Va., public school students walked out after news broke that the district covered up a rape committed in a women’s bathroom by a “gender fluid” student.

Local media showed pictures of student walkouts at multiple Loudoun County high schools. The Washington Free Beacon has reported that the district superintendent knew about a rape committed at Stone Bridge High School even as he said the district had no “record of assaults occurring in our restrooms.” Students at the Tuesday walkout at Broad Run High School chanted, “Loudoun County protects rapists.” . . .

Mainstream media were silent on the district’s coverup. A local ABC 7 report on the walkouts did not mention how the male student gained access to the girls’ restroom. (Read more from “‘Loudoun County Protects Rapists’: Students Walk Out Over Trans Bathroom Rape Coverup” HERE)
