Arpaio lost the Republican primary for Maricopa County sheriff to his former top aide, Jerry Sheridan. In the Nov. 3 general election, Sheridan will face Democrat Paul Penzone, who unseated Arpaio four years ago. . .

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio dared Sacha Baron Cohen to “come and interview me in English … so we can go man-to-man” Thursday after footage of an embarrassing interview between Arpaio and a disguised Cohen aired on the comedian’s show “Who Is America?” Sunday night.
Republican Arizona Senate candidate Arpaio acknowledged that he “made a bad mistake security-wise” by talking to Cohen, who claimed to be a Finnish celebrity, in an interview with the Washington Examiner after a town hall Thursday night.
“Get the guts, get out of your undercover role, come and interview me in English, of course, so I can understand him so we can go man-to-man,” Arpaio told the Washington Examiner. “He won’t have the guts to do that. Maybe he will, I don’t know.”
Cohen appeared to convince Arpaio, 86, to say he would accept a “blowjob” from the president in the footage that aired Sunday but was taped in August 2017. . .
Cohen went undercover as multiple characters to exploit Republicans and Democrats, including Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and former Republican Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott for his show. By Washington Examiner. After receiving President Trump’s first pardon, Joe Arpaio’s plans have gone from possible prison to book-writing, speeches and potentially another run for office in Arizona, with Sen. Jeff Flake’s seat one opportunity he is eyeing.
The former Maricopa County sheriff told the Washington Examiner he’s upset at negative reaction to the Friday pardon, and that he feels Republican politicians are insufficiently supportive of the president, who he calls a great man.
“I could run for mayor, I could run for legislator, I could run for Senate,” Arpaio said Monday. One particular race, however, is likely to gain significant attention: the GOP primary next year facing Flake, R-Ariz., a forceful Trump critic. Schumer, Ryan Criticize Trump for Arpaio Pardon
By Emily Goldberg. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s Friday pardon of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his directive to halt recruitment of transgender troops Friday — just as Hurricane Harvey was barreling towards the Texas coastline.
“As millions of people in TX and LA are prepping for the Hurricane, the President is using the cover of the storm to pardon a man who violated a court’s order to stop discriminating against Latinos and Ban courageous transgender men and women from serving in our nation’s Armed Forces,” Schumer posted in a series of tweets.
“Then he ran to Camp David. The only reason to do these right now is to use the cover of Hurricane Harvey to avoid scrutiny. So sad, so weak.”
In a separate tweet, Schumer blasted Arpaio, known for his aggressive treatment of Latinos in Arizona.

President Donald Trump on Friday night granted a presidential pardon to the controversial former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Arpaio, 85, who once led the Maricopa County sheriff’s department, was found guilty last month of criminal contempt for violating the terms of a 2011 court order in a racial profiling case. He lost a re-election bid last year.
Trump earlier this week held out the possibility of a pardon for Arpaio, but at a campaign-style rally in Phoenix on Tuesday, Trump hinted that Arpaio would be “just fine,” immediately prompting speculation that a presidential pardon was imminent.
The US Constitution gives presidents wide latitude for pardons and does not require them to check with the Justice Department beforehand. “The President executed his lawful authority and we respect his decision,” the DOJ said on Friday. (Read more from “Trump Pardons Sheriff Joe” HERE)
It was the big question on many minds as President Trump headed to Phoenix, Arizona, on Tuesday: Would he pardon “America’s toughest sheriff,” Joe Arpaio?
The initial answer was no, according to the White House Tuesday evening.
“There will be no discussion of that today at any point, and no action will be taken on that front at any point today,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, according to the Washington Times.
But during Trump’s actual speech, the president strongly suggested Arpaio would eventually receive a presidential pardon . . .
“Was Sheriff Joe convicted for doing his job? He should have had a jury,” Trump continued. “But you know what? I’ll make a prediction. I think he’s gonna be just fine. Former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio was found guilty of contempt Monday for disobeying a judge’s order to stop detaining illegal immigrants, raising the possibility of a jail sentence for the lawman once known as “America’s toughest sheriff.”
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton issued her verdict a few weeks three weeks after the trial ended July 6, with sentencing scheduled for Oct. 5.
The former sheriff has long been a hero of the border-security movement, drawing headlines for having inmates live in a tent city and wear pink underwear as well as his fight against illegal immigration
He said the judge “violated the United States Constitution by issuing her verdict without even reading it to the defendant in public court. Her verdict is contrary to what every single witness testified in the case. Arpaio believes that a jury would have found in his favor, and that it will.”
Mr. Arpaio, 85, who served as sheriff for 24 years before losing his seventh bid for office in November, faces a maximum six months in jail at his Oct. 5 sentencing, but court watchers say the judge is unlikely to put him behind bars, given his age. By Megan Cassidy. A federal judge on Friday referred Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and three of his aides to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, requesting that they be prosecuted for criminal contempt of court.
The landmark decision comes after U.S. District Court Judge G. Murray Snow found that Arpaio intentionally violated various orders rooted in an 8-year-old racial-profiling case.
The judge’s order also refers Chief Deputy Jerry Sheridan, Arpaio’s former defense attorney Michele Iafrate, and Capt. Steve Bailey for prosecutors to consider criminal contempt charges against them as well.
The sheriff and Sheridan already have been held in civil contempt of court. Potential penalties are steeper in a criminal case, and only criminal contempt could result in incarceration.

The Obama administration plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the Constitution does not allow the president to change laws passed by Congress.
In a case brought by Texas and 25 other states, Obama is defending an executive decision to allow up to 5 million illegal aliens to remain in the country.
The U.S. Supreme Court already has been asked to address Obama’s executive amnesty in a separate case brought by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona, who is represented by Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch.
The taxpayers of Maricopa County have been hit with an extra $9 million in expenses to house inmates who should have been deported. The costs are rising, so the sheriff challenged the president’s decision to grant even more illegal aliens permission to remain in the U.S.

By WND. A judge on Friday ordered the seizure of identification documents and computer hard drives from Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office, and chastised his attorneys for failing to turn over the evidence, requested months ago in a racial-profiling case against the Arizona lawman.
The U.S. Marshals Service later raided the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. District Judge Murray Snow ordered the raid after a court-ordered monitor reported the sheriff’s office failed to hand over more than 1,400 identification documents – driver’s licenses, passports and identification cards – as part of a misconduct investigation involving the sheriff’s office.
Arpaio’s immigration smuggling squad and other deputies are accused of regularly pocketing items from people during traffic stops and busts of safe houses used during illegal-immigrant smuggling.

Federal Judge Orders Information Be Seized From Arizona Sheriff
By Reuters. A federal judge on Friday ordered U.S. marshals to seize documents from the office of controversial Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio as part of an ongoing racial profiling case.
U.S. District Judge Murray Snow issued the order at an emergency hearing he convened after a court-appointed monitor reported that the sheriff’s office had failed to turn over information being sought in connection with the case.
In a brief order, Snow required that 1,459 identifications apparently taken from people by sheriff’s deputies during law enforcement actions and which were about to be destroyed be produced for federal marshals.
The judge also ordered that computer hard drives, documents and other materials related to an investigation involving the judge by a confidential informant be given to marshals by the end of the day on Friday.

“There’s a push afoot nationally to sign up more Hispanics to be able to vote,” said Arpaio. “But you have to be careful now. But if you legalize these guys, these people, they are going to vote.”
As WND previously reported, Eliseo Medina, a former immigration adviser to President Obama, boasted in 2009 that granting citizenship to millions of illegal aliens would expand the “progressive” electorate and help ensure a “progressive” governing coalition for the long term.
