Southwest Flight Makes Sudden Dive to Avoid near Midair Collision after Takeoff

Passengers aboard Southwest flight 1496 from Burbank, California to Las Vegas, Nevada experienced a frightening few seconds when the aircraft took a sudden nosedive to avoid a midair collision shortly after takeoff.

The dramatic maneuver caused passengers to fly up out of their seats and into the ceiling as children and adults screamed, fearing the worst.

Two flight attendants are being treated for injuries, a Southwest Airlines spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Caitlin Burdi, who was on flight 1496, told Fox News Digital she had been on the same flight path before, so she knew the extreme turbulence was abnormal.

“About 10 minutes into the flight, we plummeted pretty far, and I looked around, and everyone was like, ‘OK, that’s normal’,” Burdi said. “Then, within two seconds, it felt like the ride Tower of Terror, where we fell 20 to 30 feet in the air. The screaming, it was terrifying. We really thought we were plummeting to a plane crash.” (Read more from “Southwest Flight Makes Sudden Dive to Avoid near Midair Collision after Takeoff” HERE)

Gunfire Hits Commercial Airliner Near Cockpit as Plane Taxis Before Takeoff — And Shocked Passengers Speak Out

A bullet hit a Southwest Airlines plane near the cockpit as the flight was taxiing for takeoff at Dallas Love Field on Friday night, KXAS-TV reported.

An airport spokesperson told the station the gunfire forced an evacuation of the flight, and KXAS added that Dallas Police are looking for whoever pulled the trigger.

Flight 2494 was struck around 8:30 p.m., KXAS said, citing the Federal Aviation Administration, which added that the plane — which was taxiing for takeoff to Indianapolis — returned to the gate where passengers deplaned. . .

The station spoke to Shannon and Jamie Lee who were aboard the flight with two of their children; the couple told KXAS everything seemed normal until they heard the pilot on the loudspeaker.

“He said there’s a rattle outside of the plane, and they needed to return back to the gate,” Jamie Lee recalled to the station.

The couple told KXAS the pilot said the plane needed to be checked to determine if it was functional — then added that the front of the plane was damaged, and everyone would have to deplane. Flight Forced to Make Emergency Landing After Engine Cover Rips Off

A Southwest Airlines flight headed from Denver, CO, to Houston, TX, had to make an emergency landing on Sunday after the cover ripped off one of the plane’s engines, striking the wing flap.

Pilots on the Boeing 737-800 informed air traffic control at the Denver International Airport that “several passengers and flight attendants heard something loud hit the wing,” after which the plane was cleared to make a safe emergency landing.

Video of the moment the engine cover ripped away made the rounds on X on Sunday.

ABC News transportation reporter Sam Sweeney shared one clip, commenting, “Scary moments for passengers on a Southwest flight from Denver to Houston when the engine cover ripped off during flight, forcing the plane to return to Denver Sunday morning.”

Judge Orders 3 Southwest Lawyers Take Religious Liberty Training After Trampling on First Amendment

A federal judge ordered three Southwest Airlines lawyers to undergo “religious-liberty training” after it fired an attendant who had anti-abortion beliefs, according to reports.

U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr said the lawyers who defied court orders should brush up on their First Amendment knowledge at the Christian group “Alliance Defending Freedom,” ruling the organization “is particularly well-suited” to teach them, according to the New York Post. Starr said the three lawyers did not understand federal protections for religious freedom, Fortune reported.

Charlene Carter sued the airline after she was fired following more than 20 years on the job. Carter posted several social media posts criticizing the union boss who attended a pro-abortion “Women’s March” in 2017.

“You truly are despicable in so many ways,” Carter allegedly wrote in one message, Fortune reported. Carter was fired and subsequently filed a lawsuit in which she was awarded $5.1 million by a Dallas jury which was later lowered to $800,000. Flight Attendant Wins Millions After Southwest Fires Her for Being Pro-life: ‘A Victory for Freedom of Speech’

A flight attendant was awarded $5.1 million by a jury on Thursday, finding that Southwest Airlines canned 20-year veteran Charlene Carter for her sincerely held religious beliefs, namely her pro-life views.

Carter expressed her pro-life stance online and pushed back against the Transportation Workers Union of America (TWU) Local 556 union after the group, including president Audrey Stone, attended the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., in 2017. The event receives funding from Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion mill in the country.

“Today is a victory for freedom of speech and religious beliefs. Flight attendants should have a voice and nobody should be able to retaliate against a flight attendant for engaging in protected speech against her union,” Carter told FOX Business on Friday. “I am so humbled and thankful for today’s decision and for everyone who’s supported me these past five years, including the National Right to Work Foundation.”

The National Right to Work Foundation President Mark Mix slammed the union following the verdict.

“No American worker should have to fear termination, intimidation, or any other reprisal merely for speaking out against having their own money spent, purportedly in their name, to promote an agenda they find abhorrent,” said Mix, who reportedly served pro-bono legal representation to Carter. White Mom Stopped by Police, Says Airline Profiled Her, Accused Her of Trafficking Black Daughter

A white mother is accusing flight attendants of profiling her and her black 10-year-old daughter after they were stopped by police officers on suspicion of possible human trafficking at a Denver airport while departing a Southwest Airlines flight.

Mary MacCarthy, 42, booked last-minute seats on the flight after her brother died suddenly the night before. The single mother and her 10-year-old daughter Moira were stopped and confronted by a Southwest staffer at Denver Internation Airport after being flagged for human trafficking due to suspicious behavior on the flight. Armed police officers flanked the staffer per protocol as they pulled the mother and daughter aside. . .

The mother claims that both she and her daughter were traumatized by the incident and they have now retained an attorney in the matter. The daughter can be heard sobbing in the background of the video.

“It’s okay sweetheart,” the mother told her daughter in the three-minute video. She can also be heard dramatically stating, “I have a daughter, who has unfortunately already been traumatized by police in her life.”

Officers told the mother that a Southwest Airlines employee reported her for suspicious behavior. A police report that was filed after the incident purportedly indicates that both the airline and police suspected her of “trafficking” the child. Southwest Cancels Hundreds More Flights — Is Vax Mandate To Blame?

Southwest Airlines canceled hundreds more flights Monday after the airline was forced to ground nearly 2,000 flights over the weekend, blaming the issues on weather and staffing amid speculation that the debacle is tied to the company’s recent COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The world’s largest low-cost carrier canceled almost 350 flights — or one in ten scheduled departures — as of Monday at 7 a.m. ET, according to data from Flight Aware. That marks the highest cancellation rate of any major US airline by far, according to the site.

More than 300 other Southwest flights were facing delays, the site’s data showed.

The airline’s latest woes come after it had to ground more than 25 percent of its scheduled flights on Sunday. . .

The mass cancelations and delays on the busy Columbus Day weekend come after the airline announced last week that it would require all of its employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine, as called for by President Biden earlier this year. Employees must get vaccinated before Dec. 8 or face termination. The Dallas, Texas-based airline has approximately 56,000 employees. Mom Says Southwest Flight Attendant Told Her to ‘Glue’ Mask to Toddler’s Face

A Virginia Beach mother is speaking out after a mask incident she said involved her 2-year-old on a recent Southwest Airlines flight.

Ali Cleek was on an Aug. 12 flight from Orlando to Norfolk, Virginia, with her husband and two children, 4 and 2. Her 2-year-old daughter, Drew, was crying and would not keep on her mask, Cleek told FOX News.

“Drew is a thumb sucker and her only way she biologically knows how to soothe herself is by sucking her thumb which is damn near impossible with a mask,” Cleek posted to Instagram after the incident.

Cleek and her husband held Drew down, she said, trying to get her to wear her mask while two flight attendants stood over them, watching. . .

Cleek said she was given two options. Cut a hole in the mask, she said she was told sarcastically, or “glue it to her face.” The flight attendant, Cleek said, indicated she had glue available.

Southwest Pilot Sentenced to Probation for Watching Porn, Exposing Himself on Flight

A Southwest Airlines pilot who watched porn and exposed his genitals to a female officer on a flight to Florida has been sentenced to one year of probation.

Michael Haak, 60, apologized before US Magistrate Judge J. Mark Coulson ordered him on Friday to serve probation and pay a $5,000 fine. . .

The incident occurred on a flight that he was piloting from Philadelphia to Orlando on Aug. 10 2020, federal prosecutors said. . .

When the plane reached cruising altitude, Haak got out of the pilot’s seat and “disrobed” and began watching pornographic material on a laptop computer in the cockpit, prosecutors said.

“As the plane continued its flight, Haak further engaged in inappropriate conduct in the cockpit, as the first officer continued to perform her duties as an assigned aircrew member,” federal prosecutors said in a statement.
