DOJ Wants Steve Bannon Locked Up for 6 Months and Fined $200,000

Steve Bannon, former Trump adviser and host of the “War Room” podcast, was found guilty of two charges of contempt of Congress by a federal jury on July 22. He reportedly refused to comply with a subpoena issued by the Jan. 6 select committee investigating the 2021 Capitol protests. On Monday, the Department of Justice recommended that Bannon be sentenced to prison for six months and hit with a $200,000 fine.

The DOJ’s sentencing memorandum, filed on October 17, accused Bannon of pursuing “a bad-faith strategy of defiance and contempt,” claiming he “flouted the [Jan. 6] Committee’s authority and ignored the subpoena’s demands.”

“For his sustained, bad-faith contempt of Congress, the Defendant should be sentenced to six months’ imprisonment—the top end of the Sentencing Guidelines’ range—and fined $200,000—based on his insistence on paying the maximum fine rather than cooperate with the Probation Office’s routine pre-sentencing financial investigation,” read the recommendation.

The DOJ also accused Bannon of employing “hyperbolic and sometimes violent rhetoric to disparage the Committee’s investigation, personally attack the Committee’s members, and ridicule the criminal justice system,” characterizing the 68-year-old’s criticisms of the committee as “attacks.”

Among Bannon’s comments cited as so-called attacks was the statement: “This is going to be the misdemeanor from hell for Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden. Joe Biden ordered Merrick Garland to prosecute me from the White House lawn when he got off of Marine One.” (Read more from “DOJ Wants Steve Bannon Locked Up for 6 Months and Fined $200,000” HERE)

Steve Bannon Tells Charlie Kirk 35 Trump Allies Got Raided Day of Indictment (VIDEO)

Steve Bannon, former adviser to ex-President Donald Trump, says the same day he was arraigned on criminal fraud charges, the FBI carried out raids on the homes of nearly three dozen allies of the former president.

Speaking to conservative talk show host Charlie Kirk Friday, Bannon made the explosive allegation, saying law enforcement is part of a broader conspiracy to hobble opponents of President Joe Biden. Bannon’s remarks come a day after he pleaded not guilty in a New York court to fraud charges and amid efforts by conservative figures to cast the FBI as being politically weaponized.

Bannon told Kirk that the FBI “rolled in on” 35 “senior members of MAGA, Republican supporters of Donald Trump.” Saying the alleged searches were unnecessary because their targets have lawyers, he called the FBI the “jackbooted Gestapo,” a reference to the secret police of Nazi Germany.

“This is this globalist apparatus,” Bannon said. “This is the American arm of that: the Biden regime.”

Report: Steve Bannon to Be Indicted, Will Surrender to N.Y. Authorities

Steve Bannon reportedly faces a new set of criminal charges and will surrender to New York authorities on Thursday.

According to a report Tuesday evening in The Washington Post, the ex-adviser to former President Donald Trump likely will be indicted in state court for conduct similar to a federal charge for which Mr. Trump pardoned him.

“The precise details of the state case could not be confirmed Tuesday evening,” the Post acknowledged.

But, citing “people familiar with the situation,” the Post reported that the charges relate to fraud counts in the “We Build the Wall” case.

A spokesperson for Mr. Bannon told the Post that the “phony charges” from New York were “nothing more than a partisan political weaponization of the criminal justice system.” (Read more from “Report: Steve Bannon to Be Indicted, Will Surrender to N.Y. Authorities” HERE)

Steve Bannon’s Request for New Trial After Conviction Rejected by Judge

A federal judge on Friday denied a request by Steve Bannon for a new trial, more than a month after jurors convicted him of contempt of Congress after he ignored a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 committee.

Bannon argued for a new trial based on perceived flawed instructions to the jury and that he was blocked from having lawmakers, including members of the House select committee, testify at his trial, among other issues.

“Defendant’s arguments are foreclosed by binding precedent from the Court of Appeals, which this Court cannot, of course, ignore,” wrote U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols. “Defendant’s arguments on this score do not warrant a new trial.”

“Defendant has not shown that the testimony from any member of the House of Representatives that he sought would be material,” Nichols wrote. (Read more from “Steve Bannon’s Request for New Trial After Conviction Rejected by Judge” HERE)

Jury Finds Bannon Guilty in Trial Over Contempt of Jan 6 Committee

By The Post Millennial. Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon was found guilty by a DC court of contempt of Congress after defying a subpoena from the House’s January 6 committee.

Bannon had pleaded not guilty to the charges. He faces a minimum sentence of 30 days in jail. Sentencing will take place on October 21.

The committee had wanted documents from Bannon because he had been in contact with Trump while the events on the Capitol took place on that day.

Bannon had argued that the documents requested by the committee were under protection under former President Trump’s claims of executive privilege, as they were the subject of a pending court battle.

Steve Bannon’s Contempt Conviction Hailed by Jan. 6 Committee

By NBC News. . .David Schoen, one of Bannon’s lawyers said outside the courthouse the verdict would not stand. “This is round one,” Schoen said. “You will see this case reversed on appeal.”

Likewise, Bannon himself said, “We may have lost the battle here today; we’re not going to lose this war.”

He thanked the jurors for their service and said he had only one disappointment — “and that is the gutless members of that show trial committee, the J-6 committee didn’t have the guts to come down here and testify.”

Prosecutors were just as firm on the other side of the verdict: “The subpoena to Stephen Bannon was not an invitation that could be rejected or ignored,” Matthew Graves, the U.S. attorney in Washington, said in a statement. “Mr. Bannon had an obligation to appear before the House Select Committee to give testimony and provide documents. His refusal to do so was deliberate, and now a jury has found that he must pay the consequences.” (Read more from “Steve Bannon’s Contempt Conviction Hailed by Jan. 6 Committee” HERE)

Steve Bannon Predicts Sweeping Wins for ‘MAGA Policies’ in 2022 and 2024

Former White House adviser Steve Bannon predicted a “sweeping victory” for MAGA policies in the 2022 midterms that will lead to former President Donald Trump winning a second term in 2024.

“We’re going to have a sweeping victory in 2022, and that’s just the preamble to a sweeping victory in 2024, and this time we’re going to be ready — and have a MAGA perspective, MAGA policies, not the standard Republican policies,” he told political appointees at a Washington, DC, social club last week, according to NBC News.

When that happens, Bannon said he wants to see an army of “shock troops” enter federal agencies and help Republicans completely retool the government by instituting their policies.

“If you’re going to take over the administrative state and deconstruct it, then you have to have shock troops prepared to take it over immediately,” Bannon later said to NBC News in an interview released on Saturday. Trump’s Brand-New Path to White House?; WATCH: Donald Trump Surprises Supporters at Presidents’ Day Rally

By WND. Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon sees a brand-new path for his former boss Donald Trump to return to the White House in 2024 – after a two-year stint as speaker of the House.

“Trump is a disrupter, but he has a long-term vision because I absolutely believe in the marrow of my bones that he will be our nominee in 2024,” Bannon told a group of Boston Republicans at a Lincoln Day Breakfast on Saturday.

“He’ll come back to us. We’ll have a sweeping victory in 2022, and he’ll lead us in 2024,” he said, according to the Boston Herald.

Bannon suggested Trump could run for Congress in 2022 and then seek the speaker post, as Republicans are expected to regain the majority.

“We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as speaker will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency,” Bannon told the West Roxbury Ward 20 Republican Committee. (Read more from “Trump’s Brand-New Path to White House?” HERE)

Trump Pardons Ex-Strategist Steve Bannon

President Donald Trump pardoned former chief strategist Steve Bannon in the final hours of his White House term as part of a flurry of clemency action that benefited more than 140 people, including rap performers, ex-members of Congress and other allies of him and his family.

The last-minute clemency, announced after midnight on Wednesday, follows separate waves of pardons over the past month for Trump associates convicted in the FBI’s Russia investigation as well as for the father of his son-in-law.

Taken together, the actions underscore the president’s willingness, all the way through his four years in the White House, to flex his constitutional powers in ways that defy convention and explicitly aid his friends and supporters. (Read more from “Trump Pardons Ex-Strategist Steve Bannon” HERE)

Report: Trump Considering Pardon for Steve Bannon

President Donald Trump is considering issuing a pardon for his former adviser, Steve Bannon, according to a new report. . .

Politico reported the claim Friday, citing “two sources familiar with the matter” while noting that Bannon “was charged with swindling donors to a private crowdsourcing effort to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.”

Bannon, the former head of Breitbart News Network, and three others linked to the “We Build the Wall” campaign were arrested in August over allegations that they defrauded donors in the initiative and siphoned off funds from the $25 million haul for personal use. Bannon called the indictment “a political hitjob.”

Following Bannon’s arrest, Trump distanced himself from the former White House aide, saying of the “We Build the Wall” effort, “When I read about it, I didn’t like it. I said, ‘This is for government; this isn’t for private people.’ And is sounded to me like showboating.” . . .

According to Bloomberg, Bannon and Trump have been in talks in recent weeks. Citing “people familiar with the matter,” the outlet reported that the president sought Bannon’s “counsel on his campaign to overturn his re-election defeat.” (Read more from “Report: Trump Considering Pardon for Steve Bannon” HERE)
