You Won’t Believe Who Now Wants to ‘Hear All Voices’ on COVID

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy struck a surprisingly conciliatory tone towards those who have differing opinions on how to handle the Covid-19 pandemic during a Sunday morning appearance on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday.”

Responding to a question from guest anchor Trace Gallagher about the ongoing frustration of people who feel that the response coming from the Biden administration has been “political,” Murthy called for “respectful, thoughtful dialogue with one another.”

“I worry about the temperature rising in our dialogue, about people being shut out in terms of their points of view being heard,” Murthy said. “We need to be able to hear all voices. We need to be able to respect one another.”

That’s right, the same surgeon general who just a few days ago called on tech companies to censor “misinformation” on Covid-19 and report it to the federal government now says he wants to play nice and “hear all voices.” Apparently, the politics have changed more than any of us imagined. I know I certainly didn’t see this one coming.

Senate Approves Obama's Anti-Gun Surgeon General Nominee

The Senate on Monday approved President Obama’s nomination of Dr. Vivek Murthy to serve as U.S. surgeon general, despite opposition from Republicans and some Democrats over his support for gun control and past statements that gun violence is a public health issue.

Murthy, 37, a physician at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, won confirmation on a vote of 51-43. He’s a co-founder of Doctors for America, a group that has pushed for affordable health care and supports Obama’s health care law.

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said most of Murthy’s career has been spent as an activist focused on gun control and other political issues, rather than on treating patients. “Americans don’t want a surgeon general who might use this position of trust to promote his own personal campaign against the Second Amendment of the Constitution,” Barrasso said.

Supporters said Murthy is well-qualified and noted his promise not to use the position as a bully pulpit for gun control.

The nation has been without a Senate-confirmed surgeon general since July 2013. The surgeon general does not set policy but is an advocate for the people’s health.

Here is the Roll Call.

Dems Push to Confirm Radical Nominee for Surgeon General, Views Gun Ownership as Public Health Issue

For over a year, the United States has not had an official Surgeon General. While Democrats point the blame at Republicans for daring to not rubberstamp any and all of President Obama’s nominees, the fact is that in keeping with the typical policy decisions of the Obama Administration, the top choice for Surgeon General pushed by Democrats is the incredibly-radical Dr. Vivek Murthy, a man who threatens our civil liberties by asserting that gun ownership is a public health issue and should be treated as such.

Now, with Democrats enjoying the twilight of their majority in the Senate, Senate Democrats may be planning to bring Murthy’s appointment up for a vote in the lame-duck session before handing over control over to the Republicans.

Under the rules crafted by current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid designed to stifle minority opinions, Murthy would only need a simple majority for his confirmation in the Senate. However, considering that the full weight of the NRA is against the doctor who views it as government’s responsibility to “cure” gun violence by tasking the healthcare community to get involved in the private affairs of gun owners, even Democrats should fear what their vote would spell-out to voters who, just weeks ago, sent a resounding message to Democrats and swung a whopping nine seats in the Senate back to Republicans.
