Sweden, Finland Warn Residents to Be Ready for War: ‘Situation Is Serious’

Sweden and Finland have all begun warning their residents to prepare for the possibility of war as Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine rages on.

Stockholm on Monday published its latest version of “In Case of Crisis or War,” a pamphlet instructing civilians on how to prepare for, and ride out, a national crisis that was last sent out in 2018.

The pamphlet, which has been issued five times since World War II, is now twice as long at 32 pages and focuses on war preparations as the Swedish government warns of the worsening situation in Ukraine. . .

The Swedish campaign comes as neighboring Finland has also published its own online crisis prep brochure, detailing how the Finnish government would react in case of war.

Helsinki warned that as of the last government survey in September, only 58% of Finns have adequate emergency supplies at home to ride out a crisis. (Read more from “Sweden, Finland Warn Residents to Be Ready for War: ‘Situation Is Serious’” HERE)

This Country Is One Step Closer to NATO Membership

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has submitted a protocol for Sweden’s admission into NATO to Turkey’s Parliament for ratification, his office said Monday, bringing the Nordic country a step closer to membership in the military alliance.

Erdogan had been delaying ratification of Sweden’s membership, accusing Stockholm of being too soft on Kurdish militants and other groups his country considers to be security threats. Turkey also was angered by a series of Quran-burning protests in Sweden.

All 31 NATO allies must endorse Sweden’s membership. Turkey and Hungary are the only two allies that have yet to ratify it.

Sweden welcomed the move.

“Glad to hear that Turkish President Erdogan has now handed over the ratification documents to the Turkish Parliament,” Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Now it remains for Parliament to deal with the issue. We look forward to becoming a member of NATO.” (Read more from “This Country Is One Step Closer to NATO Membership” HERE)

U.S. Congress Retaliates Against Conservative Hungary for Delaying Sweden’s NATO Membership

The United States Congress has blocked a $735mn arms sale to Hungary, which includes 24 HIMARS missile launchers, because of Budapest’s delay in ratifying Sweden’s Nato membership, Hungarian media reported on June 14.

According to The Washington Post, Hungary expressed interest in purchasing 24 HIMARS missile launchers, used extensively in the Ukraine war and sold widely to other US allies. Earlier this year, on the first anniversary of the conflict, the US Congress approved the delivery of state-of-the-art long-range artillery systems to Poland.

Republican Senator James E. Risch, the influential Republican leader of the Foreign Relations Committee, has blocked the sale to Hungary, stating that Budapest must approve Sweden’s Nato accession before obtaining the weapons. He expressed his concerns to the Hungarian government directly over its position.

Sweden’s application has been held up by only two Nato members, Turkey and Hungary. The ruling Fidesz party first claimed that parliament had other more important legislation to deal with, but later the narrative changed, saying that Sweden was spreading “blatant falsehoods” about the erosion of democracy and violations of the rule of law in Hungary and this argument was used as a pretext to delay the procedure.

Critics said the government was simply blackmailing its European allies in an attempt to unlock frozen EU funds. The strategy has backfired and has only strained the country’s ties with its Western allies, leading to further isolation of Viktor Orban’s radical rightwing government. Teacher: Students Call Me ‘Dirty’ Because I Am White and Christian

A teacher in a Swedish school located in a no-go suburb of the city of Stockholm has claimed that students call her “dirty” for being white and Christian.

The teacher, who is in her 60s, has worked in a school in the Stockholm suburb of Järva for years and stated that she receives regular harassment and insults from students and that some parents even show up to development meetings wearing bulletproof vests due to the prevalence of gun violence in the area.

“I’ve considered wearing a protective vest. Everyone else has it. Even the parents, they come to the development talks in the vest. It’s not weird, the stop at school is just one of many for them,” the teacher told the newspaper Expressen.

The teacher, who claimed her colleagues all deal with the same issues, said students often call her “dirty” saying, “At school, the students say I’m dirty. By ‘dirty’ they mean that I am white and Christian,” and added, “Don’t touch me, you’re dirty, they can scream.” (Read more from “Teacher: Students Call Me ‘Dirty’ Because I Am White and Christian” HERE)

Russia Warns Finland and Sweden Against Joining NATO

The Kremlin warned Sweden and Finland on Monday against joining NATO as Russia continues to wage war in Ukraine. . .

Finland is expected to turn in its application by the end of June. Members of Parliament anticipate a security report from intelligence officials this week, and Prime Minister Sanna Marin said the government is expected to finish consideration “before midsummer.”

Sweden’s ruling party has signaled it is warming up to the prospect of applying, a shift from its prior stance, amid the war in Ukraine.

Russia will “re-balance the situation” if both countries join, Peskov said. Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman, warned of “military and political consequences,” according to the report. (Read more from “Russia Warns Finland and Sweden Against Joining NATO” HERE)

Sweden Suspends Moderna Vax Indefinitely Due to Correlation With Crippling Heart Conditions

Swedish health officials are extending the pause of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in young people over continued concerns that the shot causes rare heart inflammation cases. . .

Sweden is one of four Nordic nations that restricted the use of the jab in young people this month, with a fifth, Norway, also discouraging younger males from getting the Moderna shot.

Despite the concerns arising about the vaccine in Europe, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stood by its authorization of the shots, and even authorized booster shots of the vaccine earlier this week.

The decision came after health officials viewed data that found the shots were causing cases of myocarditis in young people who got the vaccine.

Sweden’s Public Health Agency says that the unpublished data signals ‘an increased risk of side effects such as inflammation of the heart muscle or the pericardium’ – the double-walled sac containing the heart and the roots of the main vessels. Mask-Free Sweden is Close to Zero Daily COVID Deaths as Country Plays Down Fears Over Delta Variant

Mask-free Sweden is approaching zero Covid deaths per day while the country’s chief epidemiologist has swatted away fears over the Delta variant’s infectiousness.

In the last two weeks, Sweden has recorded an average of 0.6 Covid deaths per day, this compares with 74 fatalities in the UK and 329 deaths in US per day over the same period.

Although it has the highest per capita death toll of its Scandinavian neighbours, Sweden has kept its economy afloat throughout the pandemic with its reluctance to enforce tough social distancing rules or lockdowns.

At the beginning of July it dropped its last remaining mask mandate – for public transport – while health chiefs in the US and the UK are arguing that face coverings must still to be worn to stop the spread of the rampant Delta (Indian) variant.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday warned the Delta variant was as infectious as chickenpox – but Anders Tegnell, the architect of Sweden’s Covid strategy, cautioned against such sweeping analogies. Sweden’s No-Lockdown COVID Numbers Are Even Better Than They Look

In case you hadn’t heard, Sweden is one of the very few western nations that didn’t respond to COVID-19 by imposing any lockdowns.

Given the obvious hardship, misery, and death lockdowns bring, Sweden’s leaders decided it made more sense to just isolate the sick and elderly. They let the infection burn through the strong and healthy members of their population at its normal rate instead of trying to slow it down and thereby delaying herd immunity. . .

It turns out their COVID numbers are incredibly good even independently of the fact that they seem to be avoiding the recent spike in cases that lockdown nations are experiencing. . .

To start by considering Sweden’s numbers in isolation, their COVID fatalities were almost entirely restricted to the elderly. 88% were over 70 and 75% were in nursing homes or elder care. Only 4.5% of fatalities were under 60.

Sweden had less than 500 reported COVID fatalities under 70, just 12% of the total.

Sweden Cared More About Islamophobia Than Saving Elderly in Nursing Homes From Coronavirus

. . .Sweden has a higher rate of deaths in care homes than Norway or Finland, and lockdown enthusiasts have struggled to explain why keeping bars open would be killing people in housing for the elderly.

But there is a crucial difference between Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish care homes.

A decade ago, in Sweden, 13% of the workers in care homes were immigrants, while only 5% in Norway and 1% in Finland were. Currently, 28% of care home workers in Sweden are foreigners, but in Stockholm, where the real dying has occurred, 55% of the care home workers are foreign immigrants. . .

In an interview, Johan Giesecke, Sweden’s former Chief Epidemologist and Chief Scientist of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), let slip the formerly unspeakable.

Giesecke admitted that Sweden had failed to protect the elderly, and noted that, “many of the people working in nursing homes are from other countries, they’re refugees or asylum seekers.” (Read more from “Sweden Cared More About Islamophobia Than Saving Elderly in Nursing Homes From Coronavirus” HERE)

Sweden Refuses to Lockdown, Is Doing Well

Sweden’s unusual approach to fighting the coronavirus pandemic is starting to yield results, according to the country’s top epidemiologist.

Anders Tegnell, the architect behind Sweden’s relatively relaxed response to Covid-19, told local media the latest figures on infection rates and fatalities indicate the situation is starting to stabilize. . .

Sweden has left its schools, gyms, cafes, bars and restaurants open throughout the spread of the pandemic. Instead, the government has urged citizens to act responsibly and follow social distancing guidelines. . .

As of Sunday, Sweden had reported 1,540 deaths tied to Covid-19, an increase of 29 from Saturday. That’s considerably more than in the rest of Scandinavia, but much less than in Italy, Spain and the U.K., both in absolute and relative terms. . .

Sweden’s Covid-19 strategy may ultimately result in a smaller — albeit historically deep — economic contraction than the rest of Europe is now facing, according to HSBC Global Research economist James Pomeroy. (Read more from “Sweden Refuses to Lockdown, Is Doing Well” HERE)
