Tea Party Groups' Suit Against IRS Moves Forward

tea_party_gunsA federal judge has allowed a lawsuit by 10 tea party groups to move forward against the Internal Revenue Service, rejecting a request by the federal government to dismiss all the allegations that the agency subjected conservative groups to additional, often burdensome scrutiny.

In her ruling Thursday, Judge Susan Dlott allowed two of the tea party groups’ claims — including that the IRS discriminated and retaliated against them based on their views in violation of their free speech rights — to survive to trial.

The Cincinnati-based Dlott did dismiss a third claim, ruling the tea party groups could not pursue allegations of privacy violations on behalf of their individual members. The individuals themselves have to do that, she said.

Edward Greim, the lead attorney for the tea party groups, said Friday he is pleased the case will move forward.

“If the government is right in this case, it means that from now on, no matter who the president is, the IRS can pick out a group of people that disagrees with the president and pull those people out, delay them, harass them, target them, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it,” Greim said. “And our position is very simple: That cannot be true and that’s not the republic that we live in.”

The Tea Party Is Still The Future Of The GOP

Photo Credit: Emmanuel Dunand / AFP / GettyThe Tea Party and, indeed, constitutional conservatism as a whole is under assault from the mainstream media elite, the Democrat Party and their adjuncts in the federal government bureaucracy. As reprehensible as this all may be it is entirely predictable.

What hasn’t been as predictable is that some of the most vicious attacks on the tea party have come from our supposed political allies in the Republican Party — ironically a political party that has benefited greatly from us since our birth. With the slings and arrows the tea party has received from far too many establishment politicians and campaign consultants, it makes for an irresistible, downright Shakespearean drama.

As I rejoin TheTeaParty.net, the largest national Tea Party organization in America, I reengage with this fine organization at a time when some very ugly accusations are being made against us in the tea party movement.

We have been besmirched as racists, as misogynists and bigots of every kind. It’s been appalling to see these relentless and absurd accusations being slung not only from Democrats, from whom we’ve come to expect such incivility, but also from many within the establishment GOP.

There remains a bitter divide within the GOP. Media outlets love to convolute the facts and have labeled it the “Republican Civil War,” but in truth, the Tea Party is what the Republican Party should have been all along, and what it purports to be in various GOP platforms. The Tea Party promotes limited government, sound fiscal policies and accountability in government. These principles should not be anathema to a Republican Party that has the intention of being the party of principled constitutional conservatism — not merely “Democrat lite.”

Joe Miller's Interview with Tea Party Express

Joe Miller, candidate for U.S. Senate in Alaska, talks about the important lessons he learned from his 2010 Senate race, as well as the NSA surveillance scandal, the FBI investigation of the IRS, and the news that for the first time in the history of the Index of Economic Freedom, the United States is ranked outside the top ten.

Joe also discusses one of the major stumbling blocks in the conservative movement today: “We discovered not everyone who calls themselves a Republican is really supportive of changing the direction of DC.” Listen to this excellent interview with the Tea Party Express.

CLEVER! Leading New Hampshire GOP Governor Candidate Called Tea Party ‘Teabaggers’

Photo Credit: YouTube screenshot / John StarkSomeone likely running against Walt Havenstein, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in New Hampshire, has unearthed a real gem of a video.

The 17-second video now on YouTube shows Havenstein speaking to a group of business students at the University of New Hampshire four years ago. In the clip, the GOP candidate derisively refers to tea partiers as “teabaggers.”

“We got a lot of problems in this country,” Havenstein says. “The teabaggers, or whatever they are, they’ve been telling us that all summer long. Alright?”

He then asks “Isn’t that who they are?” with his tongue stuck out.

“I’m a little out of touch,” he adds, with a big grin on his face.

Conservative Patriots Group Endorses Joe Miller for U.S. Senate

Conservative Patriots Group (“CPG”), by a vote of its members, has endorsed Joe Miller for U.S. Senate. CPG is the largest grassroots conservative/tea party organization in Alaska.

In announcing its endorsement of Miller, the group published the results of a survey of its members. The survey determined if the group should endorse in the primary, and if so, who. CPG endorsed Joe Miller with 53 percent of the vote to Treadwell’s 23 percent and Sullivan’s 12 percent.

CPG describes itself as an “Alaskan-based, all-volunteer, nonpartisan, grass roots, independent advocacy organization that is committed to supporting the election of conservative candidates, advancing conservative ideas, promoting traditional American values, supporting limited government, advocating responsible resource development, while supporting a strong military.”

Miller responded to the endorsement, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Conservative Patriots Group. CPG has been at the forefront in educating and activating Alaskans to engage in the important issues of our day from a conservative perspective. I am committed to restoring the time-tested principles of individual liberty, limited constitutional government, and the values that made our nation the greatest on earth. With the support of grassroots Alaskans, our campaign will prevail in the primary election, defeat Mark Begich in November, and take our fight to restore freedom all the way to the nation’s Capitol.”

Last week, Miller received the endorsement of the Alaska Republican Assembly by a vote of over two-thirds of its convention members. That organization is also committed to supporting true conservatives for office. To date, Miller has also received the endorsements of the Gun Owners of America, National Association for Gun Rights, Alaska Right to Life, Congressman Thomas Massie, Gen. William “Jerry” Boykin (Ret.), Lars Larson and Combat Veterans for Congress.

Corsi: Primary Victories Prove the Tea Party in America is Alive and Well

Photo Credit: APNow that Tea Party is winning elections, the Tea Party is alive and well, despite any and all reports to the contrary.

The truth is the establishment GOP in Washington and the mainstream media know this, and both are running in fear.

This is why the Wall Street Journal publishes an article by GOP establishment fund-raiser Karl Rove with a headline proclaiming the Tea Party has taken a beating.

What’s evidence for that claim?

As Tea Party Loyalists might well expect, Rove keys off Mississippi’s Sen. Thad Cochran pulling off a surprise upset against Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel by 1,386 votes, a mere 0.5 percent of the 313,443 votes cast.

Report: GOP Spends $9.7 Million to Attack Republicans – But Only $3.7 Million to Attack Democrats

Photo Credit: TeaPartyUpdate.comIf you needed more proof that the Establishment is hell-bent on attacking Tea Party candidate, a report on campaign expenditures confirms it. Or as comedian Bill Engvall says, “Here’s your sign.”

A recent study by the Center For Public Integrity revealed that from January 1 through May 6, Republican PACs and outside groups have spent about $9.7 million attacking Republican candidates in advertisements and other communications, and only around $3.7 million to attack Democrats. Democratic groups have only spent $67,000 attacking other Democrats.

What’s caused this turbocharged increase in campaign spending? Political animosity between the Tea Party and GOP Establishment and a Supreme Court decision. In January 2010, the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling allowed corporations and labor unions to spend unlimited amounts of money on ads and other communication to advocate for the election (or defeat) of a political candidate. Campaign spending was ruled to be a form of speech, protected by the Constitution for both individuals and corporations.

The decision didn’t affect contributions, as it’s still illegal for unions and corporations to make direct contributions to candidates for federal office. However, it’s opened the financial floodgates for SuperPACs and other groups to raise money and make independent expenditures for federal races across the country.

Could The Tea Party Be Taking Over The Senate? If So, Make Room For This Alaskan

Photo Credit: Western Journalism Following House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s upset primary loss to Tea Party-backed challenger Dave Brat, many conservatives have become even more emboldened in their effort to replace establishment politicians with candidates more aligned with their ideological views.

Joe Miller, a U.S. Senate hopeful in Alaska, has earned the support of Tea Party activists over the past several years. This week, he also received the overwhelming support of the Alaska Republican Assembly.

According to recent reports, AKRA members voted “by a super-majority” to endorse Miller in the upcoming primary election.

“The bar for endorsement by the AKRA is high,” said Ron Johnson, vice president of the assembly. “A Republican candidate must receive the vote of two-thirds of the voting members at the endorsement convention.”

Reports indicate that only four of the 72 current state candidates received the required level of support…

Johnson, who described AKRA as “the Republican wing of the Republican Party,” said that through its activism and endorsement of candidates like Miller, the assembly “works to develop and promote true conservative Republican candidates for public offices.”

Rush Limbaugh Explodes on ‘Corrupt’ GOP for Employing ‘Reprehensible’ Tactic Against Tea Party (+video)

Photo Credit: BreitbartConservative radio host Rush Limbaugh was fired up on Wednesday following Sen. Thad Cochran’s controversial victory over tea party-backed state Sen. Chris McDaniel in Mississippi on Thursday. Cochran reached out to traditionally Democratic voters – blacks and union members – in a last-ditch effort to beat McDaniel.

“The Republican establishment sought victory via Democrat voters in the runoff, and they got them. Without the African-American vote from Democrat-leaning counties, Thad Cochrane would have lost by eight or nine percent last night,” Limbaugh said, calling the tactic “reprehensible.”

Limbaugh cited a flyer, posted by journalist Charles Johnson that suggested McDaniel and the tea party wanted to prevent blacks from voting in the Mississippi runoff election on Tuesday. Cochran’s critics allege the longtime senator’s campaign was behind the flyers.

DC ROCKED: David Downs Goliath

By Alan Suderman and David Espo.

In an upset for the ages, Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, the second-most powerful man in the House, was dethroned Tuesday by a little-known, tea party-backed Republican primary challenger carried to victory on a wave of public anger over calls for looser immigration laws.

“This is a miracle from God that just happened,” exulted David Brat, an economics professor, as his victory became clear in the congressional district around Virginia’s capital city.

Speaking to downcast supporters, Cantor conceded, “Obviously we came up short” in a bid for renomination to an eighth term.

The victory was by far the biggest of the 2014 campaign season for tea party forces, although last week they forced veteran Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran into a June 24 runoff, and hope state Sen. Chris McDaniel can prevail then.

By Billy House.

Befuddlement hit and lingered within the House GOP leadership ranks as Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s election fate was unwinding on Tuesday. Cantor lost in a major upset to primary challenger Dave Brat.

Speaker John Boehner, in a statement from his office late Tuesday night, said, “Eric Cantor and I have gone through a lot together.”

“He’s a good friend and a great leader, and somone I’ve come to rely upon on a daily basis as we make the touch choices that come with governing,” added Boehner, who said his thoughts Tuesday night were with Cantor, his wife Diana, and their kids.

Democrats claim credit for helping Tea Party topple Eric Cantor

By Paul Bedard.

Tea Party Republicans upset with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s immigration push helped to torpedo his reelection Tuesday night, but Virginia political sources also give credit to Democrats who worked to undermine the No. 2 House leader by voting in the open primary.

Sources said the Democrats, some upset with the House GOP’s stonewalling of President Obama’s agenda and others mad the state Republicans took control of the state Senate this week, organized a get-out-the-vote effort to side with challenger Dave Brat, who beat Cantor.

“Some people who think the president is doing a reasonable job have argued back to me that Dave Brat will be even worse than Cantor. No. Dave Brat will be an inconsequential one-term backbencher howling against the oncoming tide,” said an email from a key Democratic anti-Cantor organizer Monday. “Leader Cantor losing because Obama supporters turned out to vote against him, will be the lead story in the national news on Wednesday,” it added.
