House to Consider Late-Term Abortion Ban

Photo Credit: APThe House of Representatives will consider a bill that would ban abortions across the country after 20 weeks of pregnancy, Rep. Trent Franks (R., Ariz.) announced Friday.

The “D.C. Pain Capable Unborn Protection Act” comes in the wake of the trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia, where he was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for killing three newborn babies by severing their spines.

Franks first reintroduced the bill on April 26, 2013, after the House passed it last year. As originally written, the bill would outlaw abortion 20 weeks and later after conception only in the District of Columbia, but Franks pledged on Friday to amend the bill to extend the ban across the country.

“Knowingly subjecting our innocent unborn children to dismemberment in the womb, particularly when they have developed to the point that they can feel excruciating pain every terrible moment leading up to their undeserved deaths, belies everything America was called to be,” Franks said in a statement.

The “dismemberment” refers to the “dilation and extraction” procedure used by many abortion clinics for second trimester abortions. The Washington Surgi-Clinic, an abortion clinic in Washington, D.C., calls this procedure “the safest method for second trimester abortions.” This clinic will perform second trimester abortions up to 24 weeks after conception.

House Passes Bill on Lying About Military Medals

People who falsely claim they have received a military medal in order to obtain money or government benefits could face up to a year in jail under legislation that easily passed the House Monday.

The Stolen Valor Act, sponsored by Nevada Republican Joe Heck, is a second attempt by the House to revive a law on fraudulent claims to medals that was struck down by the Supreme Court in June last year. The legislation is identical to a measure that passed the House overwhelmingly last September but saw no Senate action before the last session of Congress ended. The vote Monday was 390-3.

The Supreme Court, in invalidating the Stolen Valor Act of 2006, ruled that while making false statements about receiving a military medal might be contemptible, such lies were protected by First Amendment free speech rights.

Report: Boehner Trying to Move Gun Control Bill in the House

House Republicans are not ruling out passing gun legislation this year, according to a key GOP lawmaker.

The collapse of gun control in the Senate last month led many on and off Capitol Hill to believe the issue would not be revived in this Congress.

But House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told The Hill on Friday that he’s had “a lot of discussions” with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on guns. Goodlatte suggested the Speaker is more involved in the behind-the-scenes wrangling of how to move a gun bill than the Ohio Republican has let on in public.

“We are trying to improve the system to keep people who are barred under the law from owning firearms, from getting access to them. We don’t think the things that were proposed in the Senate do that. So we have not backed away from trying to figure out how to improve that, but we’ve made no decisions yet about what to do,” Goodlatte explained.

Goodlatte, serving his first year as the head of the Judiciary panel, pointed out that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System needs to be reauthorized before year’s end. The reauthorization could be the vehicle through which the GOP tackles the highly charged issue. Goodlatte, who has an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA), said earlier this year he wants to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.

Senate Passes Internet Sales Tax Bill Amid Opposition from Conservatives

Photo Credit: Scott SadyThe US Senate on Monday passed a bill aimed at ending tax-free shopping on the internet but the move looks set to face fierce opposition before it becomes law.

The Marketplace Fairness Act, which has cross-party supporter and the backing of powerful retailers, would give states the power to require retailers with sales over $1m to collect state and local sales taxes for online purchases.

The bill has the support of president Barack Obama the majority of senators including Republican John McCain but Marco Rubio, seen a potential Republican presidential hopeful, and Rand Paul both voted against the bill.

The bill passed the Senate by 70 votes to 24 but faces a second test in the House of Representatives where internet retailers and conservatives are already lobbying against the tax. House leaders have yet to schedule hearings or votes on their version of the measure.

The legislation would overturn a 1992 supreme court ruling that said a state could not force a retailer to collect sales tax unless the retailer had a physical presence in the state.

Is Speaker Boehner Deliberately Throwing The House To Pelosi In 2014?

With all of the corruption inside Washington D. C., one shouldn’t be too surprised when the previously unthinkable becomes thinkable, if not a reality. As Boehner’s capos, Cantor and McCarthy, stun Republicans with their Democrat-like abuse of fellow Republicans within the House of Representatives, one is compelled to ask, ‘Is Speaker Boehner deliberately throwing the House to Pelosi in 2014?’

It is no secret that our Agitator-in-Chief covets having total control of the all four branches of the Federal government (including his propaganda machine in the media). To achieve this seizure, he needs hatchet-lady Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Currently, the House of Representatives serves as the only thread of defense of our constitution, rights and freedoms against the destructive agenda of the Socialist/Fascist/Communist hood rat illuminati and their pawns inside both parties in Congress, and the GOP leaders are doing little to halt the blitzkrieg. The GOP leaders in the House of Representatives have done zero, zilch, nada to defund Benghazi Care, or do much of anything they campaigned upon to be returned to their posts of power inside their den of inequity.

Why refer to the oxymoronic ‘Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’ as Benghazi Care? One reason is to do what the puppeteer media won’t do; keeping the Benghazi massacre front-and-center in the American dialogue. Secondly, this legislation is designed to abandon those most in need of healthcare, just as Obama, Panetta, Hillary and the rest of the gutless hood rats abandoned Ambassador Stevens, former SEALs, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, and Information Officer Sean Smith as they were massacred in Benghazi. One of the most offensive comments that Boehner and his capos utter about Benghazi Care is that ‘it is the law of the land’. Who are Boehner and his capos ‘representing’? It certainly isn’t the U. S. citizen/taxpayer!

Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Caucus Battles Skeptics In Push To Protect United States

A small but growing cadre of House members is set to relaunch efforts to protect the nation against what they say is a very real threat: the unleashing of an electromagnetic pulse either by a solar storm or a nuclear-armed foe that could cripple much of the nation’s electrical infrastructure.

“I realize there is skepticism, and I understand it’s easy to dismiss this as something coming from people who might go around wearing tinfoil hats,” said Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., one of the leaders of the little-known bipartisan congressional Electromagnetic Pulse Caucus.

But Franks said that he and other members of the caucus—which has seen its roster grow to at least 18 members from 11 last session—will keep pressing “in a low-key way so as not to try to scare people” to show that the dangers are legitimate. Now is the time to take steps to protect the nation’s electric grid, said Franks, a House Armed Services Committee member who is also cochairman of the 39-member Missile Defense Caucus.

At the top of this effort is the belief that every facet of routine life could be at risk for a short or even long period of time with the disabling of key parts of the nation’s infrastructure. Computers and circuits of homes, hospitals, supermarkets, water-treatment facilities, and banks would be fried; telecommunications and transportation systems would grind to a halt; and public safety and even national security could be compromised.

Some of those concerned envision scenarios in which terrorists or some hostile or rogue state, such as Iran or North Korea, might someday build or acquire and then launch and detonate a nuclear warhead above the United States with the intent of triggering such a devastating electromagnetic pulse.

House GOP Leaders: We Can Pass Gun Control, Immigration Without Republican Support

With more and more conservatives in the House rebelling against John Boehner’s increasingly questionable Speakership, Republican House leadership is now moving to quash in-house concerns by reaching across the aisle for support. Leadership is moving in the wake of a surprising move by 16 House Republicans to vote against a Republican leadership-crafted closed rule on a government funding bill. The rule was designed to limit amendments to the government funding bill, but some House conservatives, concerned over the Boehner team’s refusal to consider a floor vote on an amendment to defund Obamacare implementation, bucked Boehner on the rule.

After undergoing that unpleasant shock, House leadership hasn’t responded by listening to the concerns of the more conservative members of its caucus. Instead, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Sunday that he would be open to ramming through bills without the support of a majority of his own Republican caucus. Not just on small bills. On issues like immigration and gun control, McCarthy said, he’d be open to taking rogue Republicans across the aisle to work with Democrats.

“It is better if the House does their work,” said McCarthy. “We should be sending bills to the Senate.” As CNN host Candy Crowley pointed out, McCarthy refused to give a straight answer on whether he would continue to uphold the so-called Hastert Rule, under which Republican leadership moves forward with bills only if they have a majority of Republican support.

Rep. Paul Ryan: House Budget Will Assume the Repeal Of ObamaCare

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Sunday said he will not back down from the battle to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act even though some Republicans think the party should move on.

Ryan dismissed criticism that House Republicans have virtually no chance of dismantling the signature legislative accomplishment of Obama’s first term and their efforts might be better expended elsewhere.

He said his budget assumes the repeal of the healthcare law, in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

When host Chris Wallace challenged him on that assumption, Ryan said he would not give up the fight.
“That’s not going to happen,” said Wallace.

“We believe it should,” Ryan shot back. “That’s the point. This is what budgeting is all about. It’s about making tough choices to fix our country’s problems. We believe ‘ObamaCare’ is a program that will not work.
