Ukraine Official Fired Over Handling of Russian Sexual Assault Claims

A Ukrainian official has been relieved of her duties over her handling of reports detailing sexual assault allegations made against Russians in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, removed Lyudmila Denisova, the parliament’s commissioner for human rights, from her post, according to Ukrainska Pravda. No new appointment has been made to fill the role.

The move to dismiss Denisova came after outrage about the wording used in public reports about alleged sexual assaults committed by Russians, as well as the alleged dissemination in those reports of unverified information. Despite accusations from Ukraine, the Kremlin has repeatedly denied that Russian soldiers have committed war crimes or sexual assaults during the invasion.

Last week, Ukrainian media outlets and journalists signed an open letter in which they requested that reports concerning rape and sexual assault be “published with caution,” particularly when involving children, according to an English translation of the letter. Biden Opens U.S. Borders to 44,000 Ukrainians

President Joe Biden has opened the United States’ borders to about 44,000 Ukrainians in over two months — a foreign population exceeding Burlington, Vermont’s resident population.

Since late March, Biden has welcomed about 22,000 Ukrainians at the U.S.-Mexico border, the latest Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data reveals. As Breitbart News exclusively reported, the administration has been releasing hundreds of Ukrainians into American communities via the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego, California.

As part of that process, Ukrainians fly to Tijuana, Mexico, and then line up every day at the Port of Entry, where they are briefly detained and released into the U.S. interior. One source told Breitbart News that the process works like a “DMV for Ukrainians.” (Read more from “Biden Opens U.S. Borders to 44,000 Ukrainians” HERE)

Top US General Suggested There Could Be a ‘Military Component’ if NATO Helps Ukraine Export Grain

A top U.S. general recently suggested the U.S. military conduct operations to help Ukraine export grain that is being held up as a result of Russian blockades along the Black Sea Coast.

Gen. Christopher Cavoli, who has been nominated to the next commander of NATO, told U.S. senators at a hearing on Thursday that he would consider offering military options to allow for grain exports to resume, the Epoch Times reported.

When asked what he would do, Cavoli said that if he is to be confirmed he would “provide the military options required by our civilian leaders.”

He told lawmakers present at the hearing, “Clearly the way we would approach that would have to be a whole-of-government approach, which may or may not include a military component.” (Read more from “Top US General Suggested There Could Be a ‘Military Component’ if NATO Helps Ukraine Export Grain” HERE)

Moron, Establishment-Stooge General Barry McCaffrey Posts Video Game Footage Claiming Russian Jets Shot Down by Ukraine

By Victor Tangermann. Retired US four star general Barry McCaffrey, who also served as the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy under the Bill Clinton administration and makes regular TV appearances as an expert on military affairs, shared a video yesterday of what he said was a “Russian aircraft getting nailed by [Ukraine] missile defense” on Twitter — only to realize minutes later that the choppy footage came from a video game.

“Russians are losing large numbers of attack aircraft,” McCaffrey argued in the now-deleted tweet. “Ukraine air defense becoming formidable.”

The incident goes to show how quickly misinformation can disseminate online, particularly when it comes to geopolitical conflict.

Twitter users were quick to point out McCaffrey’s blunder.

“This is a video game, General,” one user wrote. “Very realistic but a good lesson to verify sources/material before posting online.”

Senate Advances Bill to Give Ukraine $40 Billion in Aid During 40-Year High Inflation

The Senate voted on Monday to advance legislation that would provide $40 billion in aid to Ukraine, while Americans continue to suffer from food shortages and reel from inflation.

The Senate voted to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed on H.R. 7691, the Ukraine Supplemental Aid Package. The motion passed 81-11. This means that the Senate can begin debate on the Ukraine aid package.

The legislation would provide over $20 billion in military supplies and roughly $20 billion in humanitarian, economic, and other aid to Ukraine.

While Senate Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly voted to advance the legislation, many populist-leaning Republicans such as Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Rand Paul (R-KY) have opposed the legislation.

Sens. Paul, Hawley, Mike Crapo (R-ID), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), John Boozman (R-AR), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) voted against the bill. Captive Russian Troops Claim Commanders Kill Their Own Wounded Soldiers

Captured Russian soldiers have accused their commanders of killing their own wounded troops rather than recovering them from the battlefield and sending them for treatment.

In a harrowing account to Ukrainian journalist Volodymyr Zolkin, the young intelligence soldiers described how one lieutenant colonel asked a wounded comrade if he could walk, the Mirror reported.

When the badly injured soldier replied that he could not, the high-ranking officer reportedly shot him – as well as several others — dead.

Another soldier told Zolkin, who has reported about Russian prisoners for Open Media Ukraine, that officers have “finished off their wounded.”

When the journalist asked him to elaborate, the soldier answered: “Just like that … a wounded soldier is lying on the ground, and a battalion commander shoots him dead from a gun,” according to the outlet. UN: There Is ‘Credible’ Information Ukrainian Forces Are Torturing Russian POWs

There is “credible” information that Russian prisoners of war have been mistreated by Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February, a United Nations official said.

The evidence suggests that Russia is not the only country willing to break international norms during war, as the U.N. reports that Ukrainian forces have subjected Russians under their watch to treatment that violates international law, Matilda Bogner, head of the U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, said Tuesday.

“We have received credible information of torture, ill-treatment and incommunicado detention by Ukrainian Armed Forces against prisoners of war from Russian armed forces and affiliated armed groups,” Bogner said. “We continue to see the publication of videos, which show inhumane treatment, including prisoners from both sides being coerced to make statements, apologies and confessions, and other forms of humiliation.”

The mistreatment from both sides is considered a violation of international humanitarian law, as the U.N. continues to investigate and document egregious violations since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.

“Ukraine and Russia must promptly and effectively investigate all allegations of torture and ill-treatment of prisoners of war. They must also effectively control and instruct their forces to stop any further violations from occurring,” Bogner said. A Reckless Policy of ‘Bleeding Russia’ Risks Getting the United States Into a Foolish Foreign War

The New York Times on Wednesday published an op-ed by Tom Stevenson arguing what some of us have been arguing for a while now: the Biden administration is openly — and recklessly — pursuing a policy of escalation in Ukraine that represents a new and very dangerous phase in the war.

Stevenson, a journalist who reported from Ukraine in the opening weeks of the war, argues that initially the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies responded to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine rather straightforwardly, with supplies of arms to the Ukrainians and economic sanctions on Russia. But things have changed over the past month.

Now, instead of simply helping Ukraine stave off invasion and conquest, U.S. policy seems to have shifted into something else entirely: the permanent weakening of Russia at any cost. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said so explicitly after a clandestine visit to Ukraine with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken last month. After her own recent visit to Kyiv, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi characterized the war as a global struggle for democracy.

To back up these outlandish claims, the Biden administration has now proposed a $40 billion military aid package to Ukraine, quadruple what the United States has thus far given Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in late February. On top of that, it appears the U.S. military may be providing real-time battlefield targeting intelligence to the Ukrainians, arguably making the United States an active belligerent in the conflict.

All of this amounts to a major policy shift on the part of the United States, writes Stevenson: “Whereas once the primary Western objective was to defend against the invasion, it has become the permanent strategic attrition of Russia.” This shift, he adds, has “coincided with the abandonment of diplomatic efforts.” (Read more from “A Reckless Policy of ‘Bleeding Russia’ Risks Getting the United States Into a Foolish Foreign War” HERE)

Russia’s Senior Commanders Are Headed to the Front Lines in Ukraine: UK

Several senior Russian commanders are joining the fighting in Ukraine after their predecessors died in battle, according to the United Kingdom.

After more than two months of fighting and thousands of Russian soldiers killed, including an estimated 12 generals, Russian military leadership is poised to become more intimately involved in the war in Ukraine. The U.K. Ministry of Defense said on Sunday that “difficulties in command and control” are drawing senior officials to the front lines of the war effort.

“Russian commanders rarely delegate operational authority to their subordinates,” the ministry said, “who in turn do not gain vital leadership experience.”

Without that “vital leadership experience,” Russian forces have failed to make much headway in their “special operation” to conquer Ukraine. (Read more from “Russia’s Senior Commanders Are Headed to the Front Lines in Ukraine: UK” HERE)

Jill Biden Visits Ukraine, Meets First Lady

Jill Biden made an unannounced visit to western Ukraine on Sunday, holding a surprise Mother’s Day meeting with first lady Olena Zelenska to show U.S. support for the embattled nation as Russia presses its punishing war in the eastern regions.

She became the latest high-profile American to enter Ukraine during the war, while Zalenska’s public appearance was her first since since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24

“I wanted to come on Mother’s Day,” the U.S. first lady told Zelenska. “I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop and this war has been brutal and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine.” (Read more from “Jill Biden Visits Ukraine, Meets First Lady” HERE)
