3,500 US Troops Arrive in the Middle East on USS Tripoli as Iran Issues Threat Against Ground Invasion

A force of 3,500 US sailors and Marines arrived in the Middle East aboard the USS Tripoli — as Tehran warned that American forces will be killed if President Trump orders a ground invasion of Iran.

The flagship for the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit arrived over the weekend with troops in tow, US Central Command said Saturday.

Along with the troops, the amphibious warship brought transport and strike fighter aircraft, as well as assault and tactical assets, with the Pentagon allegedly preparing for weeks of boots-on-the-ground operations in Iran.

As the war in Iran continues to escalate, thousands of Marines are being prepped to deploy to the Middle East, sources told The Washington Post.

The troop movement would fall short of a full-scale invasion, with roughly 10,000 American troops being considered for deployment to boost the already significant military presence in the Gulf region. The U.S. Military Is Headed to the Border

President Donald Trump has deployed thousands of active duty U.S. troops to the southern border with Mexico in an effort to restore deterrence against illegal immigration and trafficking into the country. The move comes just two days after Trump signed an executive order from the Oval Office “directing the military to prioritize our own borders and territorial integrity in strategic planning for its operations.”

“The Armed Forces of the United States have played a long and well-established role in securing our borders against threats of invasion, against unlawful forays by foreign nationals into the United States, and against other transnational criminal activities that violate our laws and threaten the peace, harmony, and tranquility of the Nation. These threats have taken a variety of forms over our Nation’s history, but the Armed Forces have consistently played an integral role in protecting the sovereignty of the United States,” the order states.

“No later than 10 days from the effective date of this order, deliver to the President a revision to the Unified Command Plan that assigns United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) the mission to seal the borders and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States by repelling forms of invasion including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities.”

Now, 1500 U.S. troops will be initially sent to assist Customs and Border Protection agents with their mission. Their directive could eventually be changed to help will illegal immigrant and cartel arrests. As many as 10,000 could be deployed.

Austin Orders U.S. Forces to Be Ready to Deploy as Middle East Heats Up

The U.S. is further beefing up its military presence in the Middle East, sending in additional troops and putting others on standby while keeping an aircraft carrier on station as the region prepares for more violence.

The moves come after Israeli forces killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon on Friday, in a strike that threatens to plunge the region into a wider war.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Sunday ordered the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its attached destroyers to remain in the region, just a month after rerouting them to the Middle East while they were on a planned deployment to the Pacific. The directive comes days after the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group left its home port in Virginia for a scheduled cruise, potentially creating a two-carrier presence in the Middle East for the second time since the summer.

The Pentagon also announced that the U.S. will be sending additional “air-support capabilities in the coming days,” and that the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group will remain in the eastern Mediterranean. The group includes the amphibious ships USS New York and USS Oak Hill, along with thousands of Marines capable of performing civilian evacuations from Lebanon if necessary. The Wasp, which can launch small boats ashore, is also loaded with Marine-flown F-35B fighter planes, giving military planners an extra aerial punch if needed.

Those ships have been patrolling the Mediterranean since June and have been at sea since April. The Wasp group replaced a similar group of amphibious ships led by the USS Bataan, which had its own deployment to the region extended several times and ended up spending eight months at sea before heading home in March. Schumer’s Intimidation: U.S. Troops May Be Deployed to Eastern Europe Without $60 Billion Border Bill (VIDEO)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has issued a stark warning that U.S. troops could be sent to eastern Europe within a few years if the Senate fails to pass a crucial border bill providing $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. Schumer made this warning during an appearance on MSNBC on Monday.

Schumer’s argument revolves around the belief that if the U.S. does not support Ukraine with aid, Russian President Vladimir Putin could potentially expand his influence, leading to a scenario where American forces might find themselves engaged in conflict in eastern Europe, particularly in a NATO ally. This is a common narrative the Biden administration utilizes to justify funding the Ukrainian war, despite millions of lost U.S. funds and weapons.

President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had previously made similar arguments, warning that without additional aid, U.S. troops could end up fighting Russian forces if Putin were to attack a NATO ally. Schumer echoed these concerns, urging the Senate to pass the border bill to provide even more taxpayer assistance to Ukraine.

The proposed legislation not only allocates $60 billion in aid to Ukraine but also includes $14 billion for Israel. Schumer argued that if the bill fails to pass, the conflict between Israel and Hamas would persist. However, the proposed border bill only earmarks $20 billion for border-related issues, a fraction of the amount designated for Ukraine, further highlighting Biden’s “American’s Last” narrative.

Republicans Condemn Biden Over U.S. Troop Deaths in Jordan, Call for Retaliation Against Iran

In response to the tragic drone attack that claimed the lives of three U.S. service members and left 25 others injured in Jordan, Republicans have launched a scathing critique against President Joe Biden, accusing him of leaving American troops vulnerable and demanding immediate action against Iran.

Senator Tom Cotton, a vocal critic of Biden’s foreign policy, asserted that the President’s lenient approach towards Iran had emboldened the nation, leading to attacks on American troops. “He left our troops as sitting ducks, and now three are dead and dozens wounded, sadly as I’ve predicted would happen for months,” Cotton stated.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) echoed Cotton’s comments, declaring that the Biden administration’s policy of deterrence against Iran had failed miserably. “There have been over 100 attacks against U.S. forces in the region. Iran is undeterred,” Graham remarked, expressing condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and wishing a full recovery to those injured.

The attack on a military base in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border, marked the first instance of U.S. troops being killed in such a manner in recent months. Since mid-October, there have been more than 150 attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria, with the situation escalating after Hamas’s terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, which claimed over 1,200 lives.

Both Senators Cotton and Graham, military veterans themselves, called for decisive retaliation. Graham urged President Biden to strike significant targets inside Iran, not only as reprisal but as a deterrent against future aggression. “The only thing the Iranian regime understands is force. Until they pay a price with their infrastructure and personnel, the attacks on U.S. troops will continue,” he emphasized.

Senator Cotton went further, advocating for “devastating military retaliation” against “Iran’s terrorist forces” both in Iran and across the Middle East.

Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined the call for retaliation, succinctly stating, “Target Tehran.” Representative Mike Waltz labeled the incident as tragic and preventable, attributing it to Biden’s appeasement strategy towards Iran.

Defense Secretary Warns of ‘Very Likely’ U.S. Military Involvement in Europe if Aid to Ukraine Stalls

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned Congress on Tuesday during a private briefing that if they do not pass more aid to Ukraine, it would “very likely” lead to U.S. troops fighting a war in Europe.

“If [Vladimir] Putin takes over Ukraine, he’ll get Moldova, Georgia, then maybe the Baltics,” House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) told The Messenger, after Austin and other senior Biden administration officials briefed House lawmakers on their request for more aid for Ukraine.

“And then the idea that we’ll have to put troops on the ground in Secretary Austin’s word was very likely,” McCaul added. “That’s what we’re trying to avoid.”

The Messenger reported that the warning “did little” to win over Republican skeptics, who oppose more aid to Ukraine without more accountability and transparency on how it will help Ukraine.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told the outlet, “I don’t think we got the clarity that we’ve been requesting,” and that “It remains to be seen whether members are satisfied with the answers provided.” (Read more from “Defense Secretary Warns of ‘Very Likely’ U.S. Military Involvement in Europe if Aid to Ukraine Stalls” HERE)

Major Chance of Escalation in Attacks on U.S. Troops, Pentagon Says

Iran and its proxy militias in the Middle East intend to escalate conflict by attacking U.S. troops based in the region, defense and military officials said on Monday.

Since Thursday, U.S. troops based in Iraq and Syria have endured at least 5 drone and rocket attacks, while Iran-backed Iraqi militant groups have claimed several additional attacks. The Pentagon initially said the incidents should be considered independently, but on Monday, senior officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to give a situational update, said they are part of a concerted effort by Iran to draw the U.S. into conflict.

“What has happened in the last several days is efforts by Iran and Iranian proxy forces in an attempt to escalate this conflict,” a senior defense official said Monday.

“We see a much more significant prospect for conflict in the near term,” the official continued, adding that U.S. forces are prepared for any potential escalation. The U.S. will “hold Iran accountable” for its actions, the official said. (Read more from “Major Chance of Escalation in Attacks on U.S. Troops, Pentagon Says” HERE)

Pentagon Encouraging Soldiers to Abort Their Babies, Giving Free Leave Time, Paying Travel Costs

Service members who want to use administrative leave or receive a travel allowance to get an abortion or fertility treatment will not have to disclose the specific reason they’re using the benefits, the Pentagon confirmed to Military.com on Friday.

Service members will have to write in documentation that their request is for a “non-covered reproductive health care need,” Pentagon spokesperson Cmdr. Nicole Schwegman told Military.com. The leave, an administrative absence, does not count against regular leave allowances.

To have travel and transportation costs paid for, service members will have to submit a note from a Defense Department health care provider or a licensed non-Defense Department health care provider to the travel-approving official that says the travel is needed for non-covered reproductive health care, Schwegman added.

Under policies announced last week, service members can get up to 21 days of administrative leave and transportation costs paid for in order to get an abortion that may only be available far from where they are stationed. U.S. Trains For Mass Migration In Caribbean Security Drill

Photo Credit: JTF GuantanamoA simulated wave of Caribbean migrants sailed to the Guantanamo naval base this week for a training drill designed to prepare U.S. troops and security agencies who might someday have to handle the real thing.

The exercise is held every two years to prepare for a potential mass migration brought on by political upheaval or natural disaster in the region.

More than 500 U.S. troops and government workers flew to the Guantanamo Bay U.S. Naval Base in eastern Cuba for the drill, which started on Saturday and runs through Friday.

“It’s not related to any real-world event,” said Colonel Jane Crichton, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army South unit based in San Antonio, Texas, which is participating in the drill.

The drill is taking place on the sparsely populated Leeward side of the base, which is bisected by Guantanamo Bay. Most of the base facilities are on the Windward side, including the detention center that holds 166 prisoners captured in anti-terrorism operations.
