Tea Party Republicans sketch out Internet policy

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the son of libertarian Congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul, visited the conservative Heritage Foundation on Thursday to sketch out his agenda for preserving Internet freedom. In Paul’s view, this means opposing warrantless government snooping of private networks—and also opposing regulations intended to protect privacy and network neutrality.

The event follows last month’s announcement of a new “Internet freedom” initiative by the Campaign for Liberty, an activist group founded by the elder Paul. It appears that father and son see eye to eye on Internet issues, and the younger Paul used the Heritage event as an opportunity to explain his views.

Sen. Paul began by referencing Gordon Crovitz’s recent column in the Wall Street Journal, questioning whether the government launched the Internet. We’ve pointed out that Crovitz’s column was factually challenged; Paul offered a more nuanced version of the argument.

“It may not be completely simple but it’s definitely not as simple as that the government invented it,” he said. “When you say stuff like, ‘Oh, the government invented the Internet,’ it sort of demeans the process of the individuals who were involved.”

For example, “There was Vinton Cerf. There was Tim Berners-Lee. There were individuals. But it wasn’t the faceless government that invented the Internet. It was individuals. Even if some of them did work for government, the mind of the individual is what should be extolled, not some faceless bureaucracy.”

Elizabeth Warren wants US to be more like communist China (+video)

Democrat Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren has committed yet another gaffe. Wait, it’s not a gaffe, it’s a packaged campaign ad that reflects what she wants voters to think of her. In the ad, Warren laments that the US doesn’t “put people to work” with infrastructure “investments” at the level of the communist Chinese government:

President Obama had the chance to “invest” nearly a trillion dollars from the 2009 stimulus, but he chose instead to spend vast amounts to pay off unions before admitting that there weren’t any “shovel ready” jobs to fund.

Warren is borrowing her ideas from pretentious NYT columnist Tom Friedman, who regularly publishes his wish that America could “be China for a day” so that those in charge could spend money the way the communists do, without having to get the consent of the people whose money they would be spending.

China has one of the worse environmental records in the world, and this year one of its “investments” poisoned a major river with 20 tons of cadmium.

Warren is far from the first Democrat to praise communism in recent years. Obama hired communist Van Jones to be his “green jobs” czar, and Obama communications officer Anita Dunn praised communist dictator and mass murderer Mao Zedong in a 2009 speech. A leader with the Communist Party USA wrote in June 2012 that re-electing Barack Obama is “absolutely essential.”

Joe Miller: My Latest Plans and Activities

I am pleased to announce to my core support group several new ventures that I am involved in. Although a press release will issue next week, I wanted you to hear about these endeavors from me first. What follows is a quick overview of where we’re going.

First, though, let me thank you again for your support during the campaign last year. That support was – and remains – one of the most gratifying aspects of the election. I hope that you will continue to support our efforts to restore liberty through any or all of the following organizations:

Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC

This PAC is dedicated to impacting elections across the state to benefit all Alaskans directly, and the nation at large by extension.

We will fight to get state and local officials elected who are dedicated to the principles of limited government and assert states’ rights under the 10th Amendment. Educating the public on the foundation of our nation – the Constitution – will also be a top priority.

We will work to restore vote integrity across the state, closely monitoring the recommendations made to the state legislature and the Division of Elections.

And we remain unwavering in our support of the pro-life movement.

We would love to have you join us at a fundraiser in Fairbanks on June 3 for the launch of the PAC.

Restoring Liberty Action Committee

Restoring Liberty Action Committee (RLAC) is an organization designed to have nationwide impact by educating the public and elected officials about the original intent of the Constitution, public policy matters, and other matters of national concern through public discussions, research and analysis, and legal work. RLAC recently filed a brief before the US Supreme Court urging the Court to return to the Founders’ vision of the Fourth Amendment.

You can read the brief here:

RLAC is a 501c(4) tax-exempt organization.

Talk Radio

I have been in discussions with several radio stations regarding a daily broadcast program. It is likely that a contract will be concluded within the next several weeks. My intent is to touch on issues that affect Alaska, which as we all know, is greatly affected by what happens across the nation and, in particular, by the shenanigans in Washington, DC.

We’re expecting an announcement within the next month once details are finalized.

Western Representation PAC

As many of you know, I am the Chairman of the Western Representation PAC, based in Sparks, Nevada. This is a leading Tea Party organization that is passionate about restoring liberty to our nation.

Beginning with no financial or political backing, Western Representation PAC has become one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing political organizations thanks to over 250,000 supporters across the country.
