Former Zelensky Spox: Ukraine Must Sign Peace Deal To Avoid Even Greater Losses

Things are very bad in Ukraine right now. The former spokeswoman for Ukraine’s clearly overmatched comedian leader says things could get a lot worse if Ukraine’s government walks away from peace this time.

“Every subsequent deal for Ukraine will only be worse — because we are losing. We are losing people, territory, and the economy,” Iuliia Mendel, press secretary for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from 2019 to 2021, wrote in an X post this weekend as negotiators went back and forth in marathon peace talks.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday told multiple news outlets that he was pleased with the “tremendous amount of progress” toward finalizing a U.S.-brokered peace deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but more needed to be done to get there.

As the Trump-hating BBC reported, Ukraine and its friends in Europe weren’t happy with previously leaked proposals, “seen as favouring Russia and welcomed by [Russian President] Vladimir Putin as ‘the basis’ for settlement.” Zelensky earlier said his bomb-battered country and his fellow citizens “might face a very difficult choice: either losing dignity, or risk losing a key partner” — President Donald Trump.

The Washington Post reported the leaked draft would force Ukraine to reduce its army and turn over land that Russia has not taken. That proposal also would prohibit NATO troops. U.S. officials said the draft has been updated, with Zelensky sounding more confident that “President Trump’s team is hearing us.” (Read more from “Former Zelensky Spox: Ukraine Must Sign Peace Deal To Avoid Even Greater Losses” HERE)

Zelensky Tells Allies Ukraine Expects Western Nations to Fund War Effort for ‘Two or Three More Years’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a blunt message to his Western allies: the fight against Russian aggression will continue for “two or three years,” and Kyiv wants other countries to fund it.

In remarks made public on October 28 2025, Zelensky told European leaders that Ukraine is not preparing for “decades” of war, but does “require” a defined period of financial support. “I emphasised this again to all European leaders. I told them that we are not going to fight for decades, but you must show that for some time you will be able to provide stable financial support to Ukraine… [for] two or three years,” he said.

Zelensky made clear that, even if the war ends earlier than anticipated, the funds are still something he wants. “If the war ends in a month, we will spend this money on recovery. If it does not end in a month, but after some time, then we will spend it on weapons. We simply have no other choice,” he said.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine stretches into its fourth year, Ukraine remains heavily dependent on military and financial aid from Western countries.

While Zelensky addressed European leaders, his remarks also touched on U.S. policy and broader global shifts. He urged U.S. President Donald Trump to lean on China’s leader Xi Jinping to curb Russia’s oil revenues, referencing recent U.S. sanctions on Russian energy.

Earlier in 2025, the Trump administration had threatened new tariffs on countries importing Russian oil, signalling that U.S. policy toward Ukraine and Russia remains a key factor in the broader conflict.

On Zelensky’s part, the conversation dovetails with European plans to unlock tens of billions of euros in frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction. EU leaders are working on mechanisms that could channel these funds to Ukraine over the next two to three years, in alignment with Zelensky’s request.

In Zelensky Meeting, Trump Indicates He Is Not Ready To Give Ukraine Tomahawk Missiles

President Donald Trump suggested Friday that he is not ready to give Ukraine the United States Tomahawk missiles as he spoke publicly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

Zelensky came once again to Washington to speak with the president following Trump’s highly discussed call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. Trump announced on Thursday that he and Putin will soon meet in Budapest, Hungary, to hammer out details on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

On Friday, he suggested that the meeting will only be between him and Putin, pointing to the “tremendous bad blood” between Putin and Zelensky.
“They have tremendous bad blood,” Trump said. “It really is what is holding up, I think, a settlement. I think we are going to get it done, and we have to make it long-lasting, as I said, in the Middle East, everlasting.”

“The Middle East is a much more complicated situation,” the president noted, referring to the peace deal he struck between Israel and Hamas. “You know, we had 59 countries involved, and every one of them agreed. And it’s, you know, it’s sort of amazing. Most people didn’t think that was doable. This is going to be something I really believe that’s going to get done. I had a very good talk yesterday with President Putin. I think he wants to get it done.” (Read more from “In Zelensky Meeting, Trump Indicates He Is Not Ready To Give Ukraine Tomahawk Missiles” HERE)

Zelensky Is Asked About ‘What Specific Concessions’ He Is Willing to Make to End Ukraine-Russia War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was asked “what specific concessions” he would be willing to make in order to bring the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine to an end.

During a meeting between President Donald Trump and Zelensky at the White House on Friday, Cara Castronuova, a reporter with LindellTV, pointed out that Trump had just “brokered a peace deal in the Middle East” and pointed out that in order to do that, “both sides had to meet concessions.”

“Our President has stuck out his neck in many ways to make a peace deal for your war, as well,” Castronuova said to Zelensky during a meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump. “What specific concessions are you willing to make to end this war with Russia? Will you give up joining NATO?”

Castronuova continued to point out that “Americans have foreign war fatigue.”

Zelensky proceeded to question if Castronuova had aimed her question at him and then explained that both sides “need to sit and speak,” and added that there needed to be a “ceasefire.” (Read more from “Zelensky Is Asked About ‘What Specific Concessions’ He Is Willing to Make to End Ukraine-Russia War” HERE)

Trump, Zelensky Phone Call Comes as Transfer of US Tomahawk Missiles to Kyiv Seen as Progressing

President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed bringing an end to Russia’s invasion during a phone call Saturday — with the US arming Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles seeming increasingly likely.

The two leaders discussed Tomahawks and air defense systems during the phone call, Axios reported.

“I had a call with US President Donald Trump — a very positive and productive one,” Zelensky wrote on X Saturday.

“We discussed opportunities to bolster our air defense, as well as concrete agreements that we are working on to ensure this. There are good options and solid ideas on how to truly strengthen us.”

“I received the necessary signals that the US is considering ways to strengthen our cooperation. We are grateful for this,” he added in another post. (Read more from “Trump, Zelensky Phone Call Comes as Transfer of US Tomahawk Missiles to Kyiv Seen as Progressing” HERE)

Zelensky Shares Ominous ‘Bomb Shelters’ Warning for Russian Officials Refusing to End War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ominously warned Russian officials to find the nearest bomb shelter if they continue to refuse to end the war.

“They have to know where the bomb shelters are,” Zelensky told Axios Wednesday. “They need it. If they will not stop the war, they will need it in any case.”

Zelensky went on to insist Ukraine would only target Kremlin officials and not Russian civilians because “we are not terrorists.”

“They have to know that we in Ukraine, each day, we will answer. If they attack us, we will answer them,” he said.

The threat came soon after President Trump made a surprise pivot by saying for the first time that he believes Ukraine could win the three-year war and retake land captured by Moscow.

Zelensky, who met with Trump this week while he was in New York for the UN General Assembly, said the president had suggested to him that Ukraine should repeatedly strike back against Russia. Russia Open to Bilateral or Trilateral Talks With Trump and Zelensky: Putin’s Foreign Minister

Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, either one-on-one or alongside President Trump, a top Kremlin official said Tuesday — without committing to a timetable.

“We do not reject any forms of work, neither bilateral nor trilateral. Russian President Putin has repeatedly spoken about this,” Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov told Moscow-owned broadcaster VGTRK.

Putin has rejected attempts by Zelensky to meet face-to-face for the entirety of the 41-month-old war, but the White House insisted Tuesday that talks would happen after Trump met Putin in Alaska on Friday and discussed the way forward with Zelensky and other European leaders at the White House Monday.

Lavrov added that any meeting, whether “1+1” or “1+2,” should be undertaken with a “serious approach” and not simply intended to make headlines.

“Any contacts with the participation of top officials must be prepared with the utmost care,” he stressed.

Trump said Monday that he had spoken to Putin during the meeting with Zelensky and the Europeans and the Russia leader had said he was ready to talk with his Ukrainian counterpart. Zelensky Demands Regime Change in Moscow: “Russia Must Be Stopped at the Source”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued his most direct call yet for the removal of Vladimir Putin’s regime, warning that the threat from Russia will not end with the war in Ukraine — and that only a full political transformation in Moscow can deliver lasting peace in Europe.

Speaking via video at a meeting of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Zelensky declared that the Kremlin is “mentally stuck in another century” and driven by imperialist fantasies that make its current leadership incompatible with peace or international order.

“Even after the war ends,” Zelensky warned, “Moscow will continue trying to destabilize its neighbors unless the world acts to change the regime.”

Zelensky’s comments came just hours after a brutal round of overnight Russian drone and missile strikes killed eight Ukrainian civilians, including a six-year-old child, and injured others across several residential areas. Ukrainian air defenses shot down most of the 317 drones launched, but five missiles hit their targets directly, causing significant destruction.

In his remarks, Zelensky blamed Russia’s refusal to accept “natural borders” and adherence to a post-Soviet imperial mindset for the continued violence, stating:

“They don’t recognize where their country ends. They believe their borders are wherever they want them to be.”

Zelensky also called for harsher sanctions against Moscow, demanding not just frozen but confiscated Russian assets, a total shutdown of its arms industry, and a clampdown on energy profits that help fuel its war machine.

“We all know how to protect ourselves from what Russia is bringing,” he said. “But it takes bold action, not half-measures.”

In retaliation, Ukrainian drones targeted infrastructure inside Russia overnight, according to Russian media. The strikes reportedly caused damage to railways, gas pipelines, and a factory fire, though Moscow claims there were no casualties. Ukrainian officials have not officially commented.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha took aim at U.S. policy, urging President Donald Trump to abandon his plan to give Putin a 50-day grace period to come to terms.

“It’s time to end the waiting. Putin isn’t interested in compromise — he’s waging war.”

Vladimir Putin Issues His Conditions for Ending the War in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has put out a list of demands for ending the war in Ukraine — and they’re almost entirely unchanged from even before he launched his brutal invasion more than three years ago.

The authoritarian wants a written letter by Western leaders that they would not allow Ukraine to join NATO — a red line for the security alliance whose charter holds that any country can join if they are approved unanimously by its member states, three Russian sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

Putin further wants NATO to disavow more expansion to the east, also barring Georgia and Moldova from joining the alliance.

He also wants the West to lift sanctions on his country, whose economy has taken a harsh hit since the world protested his invasion of its sovereign neighbor.

Two other conditions — the unfreezing of Russian assets and “protection” for Ukraine’s Russian speakers — are also key desires, according to Reuters. (Read more from “Vladimir Putin Issues His Conditions for Ending the War in Ukraine” HERE)

Zelensky Willing to ‘Personally’ Meet With Putin in Istanbul, but Demands Ceasefire Before Talks

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said he would be willing to “personally” meet with Vladimir Putin for peace talks in Istanbul next week, but he continued to demand that a ceasefire be established before negotiations begin.

Following meetings with the leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom in Kyiv to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, President Zelensky and his European counterparts called for a “full, unconditional ceasefire” starting on Monday for 30 days.

In a counter-proposal, Russia’s Vladimir Putin proposed direct peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv for the first time since 2022. Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that he would be willing to host the parties again in Istanbul next week for a potential redo of failed talks held there in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion.

Responding to the proposal on Sunday, Zelensky wrote on X that he would be willing to meet with Putin in Istanbul but demanded that a ceasefire begin on Monday as a prerequisite for such talks.

“We await a full and lasting ceasefire, starting from tomorrow, to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings. And I will be waiting for Putin in Türkiye on Thursday. Personally. I hope that this time the Russians will not look for excuses.” (Read more from “Zelensky Willing to ‘Personally’ Meet With Putin in Istanbul, but Demands Ceasefire Before Talks” HERE)
