A Transvaginal Sonogram Is Not ‘Rape’

I don’t understand how the liberal mind is wired. Sometimes it is truly alien to me.

Take, for example, a proposed law in Virginia that would have required some women to undergo a little discomfort with transvaginal sonograms before brutally killing their children.

In a transvaginal sonogram, a wand is inserted in the vagina to yield an image of the fetus. The procedure differs from an abdominal sonogram, in which a wand is rubbed over the woman’s belly.

To the undisciplined liberal mind, this is, as one female lawmaker in Virginia put it, “state-mandated rape.”

Only liberals would take a common medical procedure and try to convince the public that it is the equivalent of rape. And not just a moral or figurative equivalent, but literal rape. And they do so as a way of defending the abhorrent practice of killing unborn children.

Dahlia Lithwick, an editor with “Slate” who also writes about legal issues, claimed, wrongly of course, that the law meets the federal definition of rape.

Jobs through growth, not $5 gas

Although President Obama has talked lately about an “all of the above” energy strategy, he doesn’t actually have one. Right now, his energy policy can be summed up as: cash for cronies at Solyndra; restricting access to America’s abundant energy resources; and preventing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which could bring our economy thousands of new jobs and transport 830,000 barrels of oil a day.

Oil production on private and state-owned land – land beyond the federal government’s grip – grew 14% last year. At the exact same time, production on federal land fell 11%. Gas prices have nearly doubled since Obama’s inauguration, and energy analysts predict that more Americans than ever before will pay $5.00 per gallon this year.

The President’s response to soaring gas prices is to shrug his shoulders and say, “There’s not much we can do.” And his Secretary of Energy Steven Chu has actually called for raising gas prices to European levels. Italians currently pay about $9.00 per gallon!

This isn’t the energy policy Americans deserve. Aggressively increasing our energy production will help lower gas prices and create more jobs. To do it, we must unlock more areas for exploration, cut through the red tape that slows production, and green light common sense projects like the Keystone XL pipeline.

The smart and responsible path to American energy security is clear, and the Republican Study Committee’s Jobs Through Growth Act shows the way. We quite literally cannot afford to wait.

Rick Santorum Dances With The Devil

In the Republican debate held on Washington’s Birthday the candidates were asked to describe themselves in one word. Santorum chose the word courage. If fits after a week of dancing with the national news media over the issue of Satan. Does he exist? Santorum says yes. The media says no.

It all started Monday when Matt Drudge posted audio of Rick Santorum speaking at Ave Maria University in Florida four years ago. Matt Drudge often relies on tips, and campaign opposition research operations have worked overtime this year dishing him dirt for posting.

The nuggets revealed show a Rick Santorum who is concerned about what Christians call Spiritual Warfare. The concept is derived from Ephesians chapter 6: 11-13 where St Paul warns: “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].”

Belief in Satan is pretty standard theology amongst Christians. Only the liberal, secular media finds it surprising that professing Christians hold such a belief.
We are pleased that Santorum stood his ground, saying to CNN, “If somehow or another because you’re a person of faith and you believe in good and evil is a disqualifier for president, we’re going to have a very small pool of candidates who can run for president.”

2012 Politics: Lying because it works

This year’s presidential election will be a contest between truth and lies. Don’t think it’s that stark? Let’s compare how the media handled two incidents. On Feb. 16, philanthropist Foster Friess, a major backer and adviser to Rick Santorum, cracked a joke that became a media sensation.

In an MSNBC interview with Andrea Mitchell, who asked him if Mr. Santorum’s socially conservative stances would harm his “viability,” Mr. Friess lamented that other issues, such as the economy and national security, were being eclipsed by the focus on sex. Then he quipped, “You know, back in my days, they’d use Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn’t that costly.”

That’s an old one, but because it raises the issue of moral volition, all but humorless feminists usually chuckle. But listen to this from The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart: “Friess‘ stupefying, backward and dangerous response had jaws dropping from coast to coast. … The view espoused by Friess is dumb and grim.” He finished by describing the idea of Mr. Friess having White House access someday as “terrifying.”

Mr. Capehart is also terrified by defining marriage as a bride and a groom, so it’s not all that surprising that Mr. Friess‘ joke scared him silly.

Over on CBS.com, Lucy Madison reported the incident with a headline proclaiming, “Foster Friess: In my day, women ‘used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives.’ “

With all the gov’t cheaters, any surprise that DC is nation’s adultery capital?

D.C. is the best city in the country for people looking to cheat in their relationships, according to a website that facilitates adultery.

More people per capita in the D.C. metropolitan area sign up for the website Ashley Madison than in any other city, according to the site, which helps people looking to stray. Washington has the highest per capita membership among the site’s 13 million users, The Washington Post reports.

The chief executive officer of the company tells the Post he believes people who live and work in the District achieve success from taking professional risks, which often pay off, and the personality trait prompts personal risks, too.

“The more successful you are, the more prone to cheating you are, and Washington is full of successful people looking for something outside their marriage,” CEO Noel Biderman tells the Post.

The site claims 38,000 registered users in the District.

Nearly 2 dozen states consider drug testing welfare recipients

Conservatives who say welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive government assistance have momentum on their side.

The issue has come up in the Republican presidential campaign, with front-runner Mitt Romney saying it’s an “excellent idea.”

Nearly two dozen states are considering plans this session that would make drug testing mandatory for welfare recipients, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. And Wyoming lawmakers advanced such a proposal this week.

Driving the measures is a perception that people on public assistance are misusing the funds and that cutting off their benefits would save money for tight state budgets — even as statistics have largely proved both notions untrue.

“The idea, from Joe Taxpayer is, `I don’t mind helping you out, but you need to show that you’re looking for work, or better yet that you’re employed, and that you’re drug and alcohol free,”‘ said Wyoming Republican House Speaker Ed Buchanan on Friday.

State Department warns region about Syrian WMD’s

The State Department has begun coordinating with Syria’s neighbors to prepare for the handling of President Bashar al-Assad’s extensive weapons of mass destruction if and when his regime collapses, The Cable has learned.

This week, the State Department sent a diplomatic demarche to Syria’s neighbors Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia, warning them about the possibility of Syria’s WMDs crossing their borders and offering U.S. government help in dealing with the problem, three Obama administration officials confirmed to The Cable. For concerned parties both inside and outside the U.S. government, the demarche signifies that the United States is increasingly developing plans to deal with the dangers of a post-Assad Syria — while simultaneously highlighting the lack of planning for how to directly bring about Assad’s downfall.

Syria is believed to have a substantial chemical weapons program, which includes mustard gas and sophisticated nerve agents, such as sarin gas, as well as biological weapons. Syria has also refused IAEA requests to make available facilities that were part of its nuclear weapons program and may still be in operation.

The State Department declined to provide access to any officials to discuss the private diplomatic communication on the record, such as the author of the demarche Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Tom Countryman. In a meeting with reporters earlier this year, Countryman expressed confidence that the United States knows where Syria’s WMD stockpiles are, but warned that they could become a very serious security issue for Syria and the region going forward.

“We have ideas as to the quantity and we have ideas as to where they are,” Countryman said. “We wish some of the neighbors of Syria to be on the lookout… When you get a change of regime in Syria, it matters what are the conditions — chaotic or orderly.”

The $4 Billion Obamacare Slush Fund for Progressives

If you like how the Obama administration’s multibillion-dollar “investments” in bankrupt solar companies have turned out, you’ll love the latest federal loan program to nowhere. It’s the Obamacare loyalty rewards program for progressives.

To appease liberal Democrats pushing for the so-called “public option” (the full frontal government takeover of our health care system), the White House settled for the creation of a $6 billion network of nonprofit “CO-OPs” that will “compete” with private insurers. It’s socialized medicine through the side door. House Republicans sliced about $2 billion from the slush fund in last spring’s budget deal and proclaimed the program dead. Hardly.

On Wednesday, the White House trumpeted the release of nearly $700 million in taxpayer-funded low-interest loans for seven CO-OPs in eight states. Administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the fund will pour more money into CO-OP plans nationwide throughout the next year. In 2014, according to Washington bureaucrats, the plans will be offered on the federally approved and federally monitored state health exchange “marketplace.”

Some marketplace. Given how Team Obama has dispensed special Obamacare waivers to scores of campaign donors, it’s a sure bet the CO-OP/exchange mechanism will be brazenly rigged against non-subsidized, for-profit insurers. And against taxpayers. Obama health officials assure us that there will be an “early warning system” in place before loan recipients get into financial trouble. But we know from the half-billion-dollar Solyndra scam that when this administration sees red flags, it’s full speed ahead.

In fact, the Obamacare CO-OP overseers already predict a nearly 40 percent default rate for the loans, according to Kaiser Health. Welcome to the Chicago-on-the-Potomac reverse rule of holes: When you’re in one, keep digging.

Obama’s Energy Plan — Algae

(CNSNews.com) – “The American people aren’t stupid,” President Obama said on Thursday — as he insisted that drilling for more oil on U.S. territory is “not a strategy to solve our energy challenge.”

The president’s solution? Algae, for one.

There are no quick fixes to the nation’s eneergy problem, the president said, dismissing Republican calls for more drilling as a “bumper sticker.”

“We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline and diesel and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance — algae,” the president said at a campaign stop in Florida. “You’ve got a bunch of algae out here, right? If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing all right.”

Obama said the nation could replace up to 17 percent of the oil it imports for transportation with “this fuel that we can grow right here in the United States. And that means greater energy security. That means lower costs. It means more jobs. It means a stronger economy.”
