Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.
The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.
Furthermore, instead of grandfathering in current firearms, she would create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun owners. Magazines would again be limited to 10 rounds.
The Clinton-era bill was not renewed by Congress after the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement agencies reported that it was ineffective in reducing crime.
President Obama said that a top priority is to get “an assault weapons ban that is meaningful” passed this year.
After years of downplaying ideological labels for Barack Obama, ABC has seemingly accepted the idea that the President is a “progressive” and a “liberal.” While recapping the inauguration, Good Morning America’s journalists used the terms four times in just two minutes and 45 seconds. Yet, when Obama was a Democratic primary candidate in 2007, the networks deployed the L-word just twice– in the entire year.
On Tuesday, George Stephanopoulos hyped the ideological content of Obama’s second inaugural: “The speech, a call to action, an uncompromising annunciation of liberal principles.”
Seconds later, the former Democratic operative turned journalist reiterated, insisting that “liberals were cheering yesterday.” Jon Karl trumpeted, “He went lofty. He went ambitious. And he went unmistakably liberal.”
The labels continued as Karl repeated, “[Obama] unapologetically laid out a progressive agenda, promising action on climate change, equal pay for women and immigration.”
It only took two presidential elections for ABC to come around to this idea. The ABC graphic for the segment touted the liberal agenda: “Obama’s Inaugural: ‘We Must Act’ Pushes Equality and Togetherness.”

Most modern-day leftists in Western countries have abandoned the idea of a violent revolution, having replaced it with “the long march through the institutions” as part of the culture war to transform the society through cultural hegemony. Instead of commanding firing squads, they play mind games of manipulative illusions, in which the demonization of dissent plays a crucial role. The basic premise hasn’t changed: as much as the statists want you to love them, they want you to hate their opponents even more.
Until a time when political opposition can be eliminated completely, having opponents can still be useful: you can steal their ideas, take advantage of their desire to help the economy, and blame them for any of your own failures. In the meantime, certain rules must be followed to control the public opinion and, through it, the opposition itself.
Maintain the perception of being constantly under attack. Don’t examine the opponents’ beliefs, nor answer their arguments. Discredit any media channels that offer them a platform. Enforce the following media template: the opposition is evil, treasonous, unfathomable, and psychotic. They can’t be reasoned with. They are inspired by fascism and financed by a conspiracy of shady oligarchs. Defame their donors. Whatever the mischief you’re planning to pull off, accuse them of doing it first; then proceed as planned, describing your actions as a necessary intervention. And ridicule, ridicule, ridicule!
This is what made it easy for Stalin to purge his opponents: by the time he charged them with treason, the orchestrated media coverage had already made them universally hated. Having purged all of his enemies, Stalin continued to manufacture the evidence of their presence. There came a time when even the true believers were being rounded up and forced to confess publicly about one or another fabricated “crime” against the people and the Party. Some did it to avoid torture, some to save their families, and some even cooperated out of the altruistic desire to support the illusion and keep everyone else’s beautiful dream alive. Unfortunately for them, that beautiful dream required human sacrifice.
At the same time, Stalin used the only remaining high-ranking Jew in his government, Lazar Kaganovich, as a perpetual scapegoat. Himself a ruthless henchman who organized a number of purges, Kaganovich ended up serving in the capacity of an unpunishable bumbling idiot, a “token Jew,” and a darkly comic relief. Implicitly blamed for one government blunder after another, this Joe Biden of Stalin’s regime was moved from ministry to ministry only to be blamed again and reassigned to yet another top-level position. As expected, the people’s reaction was a universal loathing and bewilderment: how can Comrade Stalin be so soft and trusting of this evil Jew? Kaganovich outlived them all; he died in 1991, among friends and family, at the age of 97.

Last year, Kathleen and I visited China for three weeks. We spent time in Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing, and other Chinese cities.
One of the highlights of the trip was Tiananmen Square. The area was fenced off with a number of other security measures in place including numerous police, surveillance cameras, and checkpoints.
Despite this corridor of security, Kathleen and I were identified as westerners and almost immediately waived in. The hundreds of Chinese awaiting entrance, however, were forced to undergo intrusive security screening, similar to what one could expect from overzealous TSA agents in the US.
While there, a man told us that during the 1989 Tiananmen Square uprising, the communist government had killed literally thousands of protesters, identified virtually every surviving participant, and incarcerated most of those survivors.
One of them, however, apparently made it out and became a US citizen in 2007. According to Townhall.com, this protester then recorded the following video regarding the incredible importance of the Second Amendment:
In this Tea Party speech, the naturalized Chinese-American citizen demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Among other things, he noted that
•”The power of the government is derived from the consent of the governed.”
•Chinese patriots in Tiananmen were crushed by “AK-47’s” because they could “not fight back” as they “were not armed.”
•The argument “that a man with a rifle has no standing against the military technology and machine of today” is ridiculous. 20,000,000 residents of Beijing would have quickly proved that wrong had they been armed in 1989.
•”When a government turns criminal, when a government turns deranged, the body count will not be 5, 10, or even 20. It will be in hundreds like Tiananmen Square, it will be in the millions…
•”When a government has a monopoly on guns, it has absolute power.”
•”When a government has all the guns, it has all the rights.”
•”To me, a rifle is not for sporting or hunting. It is an instrument of freedom. It guarantees that I cannot be coerced, that I have free will, that I am a free man.”
The Tiananmen survivor also weighed in on firearm magazine restrictions, like those proposed by a number of bills pending before the US Congress: “Now suppose the 20 million Beijing citizens had had a few million rifles, how many rounds should they have been ALLOWED to load into their magazines? Ten rounds? [crowd: No!] Seven rounds? [crowd: No!] How about three rounds? [crowd: No!]”
The naturalized US citizen continued,
Do not give up the fight, my friends. It may be a small step that you give up your rifle, or a 30 round magazine.
But it will be a giant leap toward the destruction of this republic.
Now, in closing, I will quote the words of Captain John Parker: ‘Stand your ground. Do not fire until fired upon. But if they want a war, let it start here!

WASHINGTON – Fewer than four-in-10 Americans (39 percent) rate the US in a positive manner – the most negative feedback the country has produced since 1979.
A new Gallup poll finds that Americans are as negative about the country’s prospects as they have been in more than three decades. Americans are more upbeat in their predictions of where the U.S. will be in five years (48 percent positive), but this is the lowest rating since an August 1979 Gallup poll was conducted.
The negativity about the current state of the US has a politically partisan split – Republicans stated that the country’s best days have already passed and Democrats say the best days have not happened yet. Seventy-five percent of Democrats gave positive reviews of how the nation will be five years from now, but only 15 percent of Republicans were positive – a 60 percent partisan gap.
As a whole, fifty-five percent of Americans say the state of the nation five years ago was positive.

North Korea swiftly lashed out against the U.N. Security Council’s condemnation of its December launch of a long-range rocket, saying Wednesday that it will strengthen its military defenses, including its nuclear weaponry, in response.
The defiant statement from North Korea’s Foreign Ministry was issued hours after the Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Pyongyang’s Dec. 12 rocket launch as a violation of a ban against nuclear and missile activity. The resolution, which required approval from Pyongyang’s ally China, also added to sanctions against the North.
The Foreign Ministry called the launch a peaceful bid to send a satellite into space rather than a test of long-range missile technology. It said North Korea “should counter the U.S. hostile policy with strength, not with words.”
The statement ominously warned that North Korea will “bolster the military capabilities for self-defense including the nuclear deterrence.”
The wording “considerably and strongly hints at the possibility of a nuclear test,” analyst Hong Hyun-ik at the private Sejong Institute think tank near Seoul said Wednesday.

In a time when the expectation of most Americans is a government solution for virtually every problem we face, Molotov Mitchell has a novel idea. How about we govern ourselves?
After all, wasn’t that the expectation of our founders? Or is the enlightenment ideal of common men governing themselves according the cannons of common sense a thing of the past?
Mitchell maintains that it’s time for us to take the task of government into our own hands. Rather than look to the nanny state for parental guidance, we should address our world with common sense solutions that would make government intervention unnecessary.

JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his hard-line allies fared far worse than expected in a parliamentary election Tuesday, likely forcing him to reach across the aisle to court a popular political newcomer to cobble together a new coalition.
While Netanyahu appeared positioned to serve a third term as prime minister, the results marked a major setback for his policies and could force him to make new concessions to restart long-stalled peace talks with the Palestinians.
More than 99 percent of the votes had been counted by Wednesday morning and results showed the hawkish and dovish blocs were split about evenly.
Netanyahu’s most likely partner was Yesh Atid, or There is a Future, a party headed by political newcomer Yair Lapid that showed surprising strength. Lapid has said he would only join a government committed to sweeping economic changes and a resumption of peace talks with the Palestinians.
Addressing his supporters early Wednesday, Netanyahu vowed to form as broad a coalition as possible. He said the next government would be built on principles that include reforming the contentious system of granting draft exemptions to ultra-Orthodox Jewish men and the pursuit of a “genuine peace” with the Palestinians. He did not elaborate, but the message seemed aimed at Lapid.
A group of Utah sheriffs sent a letter to President Barack Obama last week stating that they will not enforce any new gun laws they believe to be unconstitutional.
28 of the 29 sheriffs in Utah signed off on the letter with only the Salt Lake County Sheriff, Jim Winder, opting out.
Summit County Sheriff David Edmunds says, “We are prepared to trade our lives in defense of the constitution of the United States.”
Edmunds says the letter is a preemptive strike against the possibility of the president banning assault rifles, or restricting the amount of ammo in magazines.
The letter to the President states (emphasis added): “We, like you swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.”

NEW YORK – If lawmakers and authorities are truly concerned about stopping gun violence in schools, they need to take a close look at the prescription of psychotropic drugs for children and young people, says a leading psychiatrist.
In an exclusive in-person interview in New York City with WND, London-based Dr. David Healy criticized pharmaceutical companies that have made billions of dollars marketing Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, known as SSRIs.
Psychotropic drugs “prescribed for school children cause violent behavior,” Healy stated.
The drugs are widely used in the U.S. as antidepressants by doctors working in the mental health field and increasingly by primary care doctors, he noted.
Healey insisted the problem today is that doctors working with schools to control the behavior of children are inclined to prescribe SSRI drugs without serious consideration of adverse consequences.
