Rand Paul: House Leaders ‘Retreated’ on Debt Ceiling

Sen. Rand Paul accused House Republican leaders of having “retreated” in the face of a confrontation with President Barack Obama, criticizing their decision to vote on raising the U.S. debt ceiling this week during a speech in South Carolina Monday night.

In remarks to the Charleston Meeting, a gathering of conservative leaders in the first-in-the-South presidential primary state, Paul rebuked the House for its plans to delay the debt limit fight by a few months. Republicans intend to vote this week on raising the country’s statutory debt limit to delay a spending standoff with the White House by about three months.

“I saw the speaker on TV handing the newly sworn-in president a flag. I am afraid it was the white flag of surrender,” the Kentucky Republican said, according to a GOP source present at the meeting.

Alluding to the House GOP’s gathering last week in Williamsburg, Va., Paul jabbed: “They came out of their retreat and retreated.”

Mentor of Obama’s Science Czar: ‘Nobody Has The Right to Have 12 Children–Or Even 3’

(CNSNews.com) – Paul Ehrlich, the doomsday biologist who coined the term “The Population Bomb” more than 40 years ago with a book of the same name, says the world now faces “dangerous trends” of global climate change and overpopulation, which threaten our extinction.

Reducing the number of people is still the answer to civilization’s woes, Ehrlich and his wife Anne wrote in an article published Jan. 9 by London’s Royal Society.

“To our minds, the fundamental cure, reducing the scale of the human enterprise (including the size of the population) to keep its aggregate consumption within the carrying capacity of Earth is obvious but too much neglected or denied,” Ehrlich wrote.

Ehrlich spelled out exactly what he meant in an interview with a liberal blog/news site called Raw Story.

“Giving people the right to have as many people, as many children that they want is, I think, a bad idea,” the Web site quoted Ehrlich as saying.

Reid to Senate Republicans: Filibuster Deal in 36 Hours or Face Nuclear Option

Filibuster reform has become a headache for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

Reid is stuck in the middle, between liberal senators pushing hard for drastic reform and senior Democrats balking at changing the culture of the upper chamber.

Powerful liberal groups and left-leaning lawmakers see filibuster reform as necessary to advancing President Obama’s second-term agenda, which includes immigration reform and gun-control legislation.

“The president can’t act on legislation if the Senate can’t act on legislation, and therefore it’s so important that we end the secret silent filibuster that has plagued this body,” said Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), a leading proponent of reform.

A coalition of liberal groups met at the headquarters of the National Education Association (NEA) shortly after Obama won reelection to set strategy for advancing his second-term agenda. One of the primary goals emerging from the meeting was enacting filibuster reform.

Anchorage Assembly Takes Up Title 21, Accepting Public Comment

Pay attention, folks. If you are concerned with the government telling you what you can and cannot do with your private property, then you must comment on the Title 21 code being considered by the Anchorage Assembly. If you think the government should be able to tell you how many windows you can have on the street facing side of your house, then don’t comment. If you think the government should be able to tell you how many bushes and trees you should have in your yard, then don’t comment. If you think the government should be able to tell you that you have to have a covered front porch, then don’t comment.

If you have saved enough of your hard earned money to finally move out of rental housing and now want to build a new home to your design specifications, then don’t comment. If you want the government to tell you where and what type of sidewalk you must have, then don’t comment. If you want the government to tell you how large your garage can be, then don’t comment.

If you believe that a small active segment (the spandex crowd) of our population should be able to tell you what is “aesthetic”, then don’t comment. If you believe in centralized planning by academic urban planners, then don’t comment.

If you believe you own your property and the government should butt out with its overreaching regulations, then do comment. If you believe low income housing will be even more expensive and crowd out the 99%, then do comment.

Sesame Street Songs As Instruments Of Torture?

Songs of War, a recent documentary produced for Arabic news agency Al Jazeera, explores claims that music from Sesame Street as well as heavy metal and rap songs were used in the torture of prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantánamo Bay.

After being alerted that some of his educational children’s music was used as a weapon of war, GRAMMY award-winning songwriter Christopher Cerf set out on a mission to learn more about what he believed to be an “inhumane” use of his work. Al Jazeera’s cameras followed as Cerf personally interviewed former soldiers and detainees.

According to the report, prisoners, shackled and held in private cells, were subjected to near-deafening music from Metallica, AC/DC, Marilyn Manson, Drowning Pool, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen and Rage Against The Machine in addition to popular children’s classics from Sesame Street and Barney the purple dinosaur.

Loud music played repetitively over many hours or even days would induce sleep deprivation, resulting in weakness, disorientation and feelings of powerlessness. The technique, put to use by American soldiers in 2003, was reported to have been first used on American soldiers during the Korean War in the early 1950s. Tortures employed by the U.S. psychological operations units included stripping detainees of their clothing, placing them in stress positions, putting hoods over their heads, disrupting their sleep, treating them like animals, subjecting them to loud music and flashing lights, and exposing them to extreme temperatures.

The Obama Administration’s Inexplicable Mishandling of Marine Gen. James Mattis

Word on the national security street is that General James Mattis is being given the bum’s rush out of his job as commander of Central Command, and is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned.

Why the hurry? Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way — not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, “And then what?”

Inquiry along these lines apparently was not welcomed — at least in the CENTCOM view. The White House view, apparently, is that Mattis was too hawkish, which is not something I believe, having seen him in the field over the years. I’d call him a tough-minded realist, someone who’d rather have tea with you than shoot you, but is happy to end the conversation either way.

Presidents should feel free to boot generals anytime they want, of course — that’s our system, and one I applaud. But ousting Mattis at this time, and in this way, seems wrong for several reasons.

Forthcoming ‘Erotic’ Novel Features Barack and Michelle Obama

A forthcoming erotic novel being described as “fan fiction” will feature the first couple as protagonists-in-chief. According to Pop Culture Public Relations, the firm representing the book’s publisher, the novel, a version of a “personalizable” erotic tome, will be printed with the first couple’s names in it and available online at no cost on January 28. In an e-mail circulated yesterday, Pop Culture PR wrote, “Barack and Michelle Obama Star in This Erotic, Romantic Novel.”

Surely American literature will reach new heights with the publication of GuestHouse Games, in which the Obamas, “alone in their isolated beachfront guesthouse in the tropical paradise of Kailua, Hawaii,” are “drawn into the ancient Hawaiian spiritual world and into the exploration of their own deepest and most forbidden desires.”

Shock Claim: Obama Only Wants Military Leaders Who ‘Will Fire on U.S. Citizens’

On Monday, renowned author and humanitarian Dr. Jim Garrow made a shocking claim about what we can expect to see in Obama’s second term.

Garrow made the following Facebook post:
“I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new ‘litmus test’ in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. ‘The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not.’ Those who will not are being removed.”

So, who is the source?

Garrow replied: “The man who told me this is one of America’s foremost military heroes.”

Understand, this is not coming from Alex Jones or Jesse Ventura, or from anyone else the left often dismisses with great ease.

Video: Man in Tree Disrupts 2013 Inauguration, Yells, ‘What About the Babies?!’

The 2013 Presidential Inauguration was disturbing on a number of different levels, not the least of which was the almost overt religious theme intermixed with leftist invocations about gay rights and global warming.

Something you may not have heard about the event, however, involved an elderly pro-life protester who climbed a tall tree and used that as a platform to confront Obama on abortion:

On another note, the security at the event was thorough. It took several hours to get through the check points:

There were also several interesting vehicles positioned around the inaugural event with detectors:

And, there were a numbered of armored vehicles from DHS:

They even had horses, apparently for crowd control:

Beware of Those Advising GOP To Unilaterally Disarm

Isn’t it ironic that Republicans keep receiving advice to be more conciliatory and work with President Obama while President Obama not only is receiving the opposite advice but fully intends to be even more divisive in his second term?

On “Meet the Press” last week, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said: “There’s also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the (Republican) party. What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.”

That is outrageously false, but lest you think hypersensitivity to race is all that’s bothering Powell, he made clear that he also has a problem with the GOP’s policies. He said: “In recent years, there’s been a significant shift to the right, and we have seen what that shift has produced: two losing presidential campaigns.” A shift to the right? You’ve got to be kidding. Why isn’t Powell concerned about Obama’s uber-leftism?

“Republican” Powell also said that the GOP has become the party of the rich and that it needs to address the issues of education, immigration and climate change before the next election — you know, to imitate Barack Obama’s party of moderation. Here again, it’s disgraceful that Powell has endorsed Obama’s class warfare slander.

This past Sunday, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on “Face the Nation,” was only slightly more charitable toward her own party. She said, “The Republican Party certainly has to stop turning off large segments of the population.”
