California Professor Charged in Confrontation With Pro-Life Teen

Photo Credit: Thrin ShortA feminist studies professor at a California state university is facing criminal charges after a videotaped run-in with a teenage pro-life demonstrator in which she snatched an anti-abortion sign and appeared to get physical with the girl.

University of California at Santa Barbara Associate Professor Mireille Miller-Young was charged with one misdemeanor count each of theft, battery and vandalism in the March 4 incident, Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley announced Friday. The charges came days after 16-year-old Thrin Short and her parents met with prosecutors.

Thrin told authorities what she told FoxNews.com earlier this month: She, her older sister Joan, 21, and some other pro-life activists were holding signs and demonstrating in a free speech zone on the bucolic campus March 4 when Miller-Young, who also teaches courses on pornography, went berserk.

The sisters say they distributed nearly 1,000 informational pamphlets during the event, which was organized by the Riverside-based nonprofit Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust. Things took an unexpected turn when, according to Short, Miller-Young approached the demonstrators and a group of students who had gathered.

“Before she grabbed the sign, she was mocking me and talking over me in front of the students, saying that she was twice as old as me and had three degrees, so they should listen to her and not me,” Thrin Short wrote in an email to FoxNews.com. “Then she started the chant with the students about ‘tear down the sign.’ When that died out, she grabbed the sign.”

Steven Spielberg to Honor President Obama at USC Shoah Gala

Photo Credit: Hollywood Reporter President Barack Obama is set to deliver remarks and receive an honor presented by Steven Spielberg at a USC Shoah Foundation event, the organization said Friday.

The event, the 20th Anniversary Ambassadors for Humanity Gala, will be held May 7 in Los Angeles. The president is also expected to attend at least one fundraiser for the Democratic party while he is in town, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

“President Obama’s commitment to democracy and human rights has long been felt,” said Spielberg in a statement announcing the news. “As a constitutional scholar and as president, his interest in expanding justice and opportunity for all is remarkably evident.”

DHS Secretary Meets With Soros-Funded Illegal Alien

Photo Credit: WNDThe illegal-alien activist who held a meeting this week with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson may be a case study of the status of some illegals in the country and the true nature of some of their leading activists.

Catalina Nieto, a self-described illegal alien, was part of a delegation from the radical Code Pink that reportedly met with Johnson on Monday, according to Breitbart News.

In a blog post on Code Pink’s website, the group’s leaders said Nieto identified herself to Johnson as an “illegal alien” and questioned the DHS chief about his immigration policies, including what she claimed were horrid conditions at detention centers for illegals.

“I’m an ‘illegal alien,’ that’s how you refer to us in all your documents, right?” Nieto asked Johnson, according to Code Pink.

Continued Nieto to Johnson: “Well you are meeting one in person right now. Have you met with people going through detention and deportation? Have you met with the families of those who are being deported? You talk about conducting a review to make immigration enforcement more ‘humane,’ but let me tell you that there is nothing humane about enforcement, even from the way you refer to us, as aliens, not even humans.”

FBI: Alaska Killer Likely Not Tied to Missing Man

A special episode of Investigation Discovery’s “Dark Minds” TV series airing April 2 says Gilbert Gilman was a potential victim of Keyes, who had been in the region. Gilman disappeared from Olympic National Park in 2006.

Pope Warns Mobsters: Hell Awaits

The pontiff on Friday delivered his most forceful denunciation yet of organized crime. The occasion was a prayer vigil at a Roman church for relatives of innocents killed by the mafia, during which the names of 842 victims were read aloud as a somber Francis looked on.

After voicing his solidarity with the family members, Francis said he couldn’t leave the service without speaking to those not present: the “protagonists” of mafia violence.

Addressing these absentee mafiosi, Francis was unsparing:

“This life that you live now won’t give you pleasure. It won’t give you joy or happiness,” he said. “Blood-stained money, blood-stained power, you can’t bring it with you to your next life. Repent. There’s still time to not end up in hell, which is what awaits you if you continue on this path.”

Photo Credit: CNNHackers have developed a drone that can steal the contents of your smartphone — from your location data to your Amazon (AMZN, Fortune 500) password — and they’ve been testing it out in the skies of London. The research will be presented next week at the Black Hat Asia cybersecurity conference in Singapore.

The technology equipped on the drone, known as Snoopy, looks for mobile devices with Wi-Fi settings turned on.

Snoopy takes advantage of a feature built into all smartphones and tablets: When mobile devices try to connect to the Internet, they look for networks they’ve accessed in the past.

“Their phone will very noisily be shouting out the name of every network its ever connected to,” Sensepost security researcher Glenn Wilkinson said. “They’ll be shouting out, ‘Starbucks, are you there?…McDonald’s Free Wi-Fi, are you there?”

That’s when Snoopy can swoop into action (and be its most devious, even more than the cartoon dog): the drone can send back a signal pretending to be networks you’ve connected to in the past. Devices two feet apart could both make connections with the quadcopter, each thinking it is a different, trusted Wi-Fi network. When the phones connect to the drone, Snoopy will intercept everything they send and receive.

Obama Likens Himself to Abraham Lincoln…

First of all, if you read back on Lincoln, he loved telling the occasional bawdy joke, and he went out among regular folks. One of the hardest things about being President is being in a bubble that is artificial. Unless you make a conscious effort, you start to sound like some Washington stiff. So you got to consciously try to get out of that, if you want to remind yourself of the wonderful people you are supposed to be serving with a sense of humor and aren’t thinking every day of position papers.

Obama’s words were actually a rip-off of a defense used by MSNBC’s Chris Hayes shortly after Obama’s appearance on Between Two Ferns. Undoubtedly, the MSNBC-watching president parroted the Hayes line.

Miller Blasts Begich for ‘Promoting a Culture of Executive Lawlessness’

Photo Credit: SenateDemocratsJoe Miller today responded to news this week that junior Senator Mark Begich joined a large block of Democrat senators and representatives in urging President Obama to bypass Congress and implement a truncated version of the federal ENDA legislation via executive fiat.

“Apparently Mark Begich skipped out on high school civics,” Miller said. “For a United States Senator to essentially petition the nation’s chief executive to assume legislative powers is absolutely chilling. Mark either doesn’t understand the Constitution, or he is willfully violating its clear intent, and by doing so is promoting a culture of executive lawlessness.”

The letter Begich signed specifically urged Obama to fulfill his State of the Union promise to “make this a year of action” by signing an executive order to impose the failed ENDA legislation on federal contractors, though the President failed to mention it as one of his executive action priorities.

Perhaps just as disturbing is Senator Begich’s utter disregard for the democratic process, not just in Washington, but also in Alaska. Similar legislation has gotten no traction in the Alaska Legislature, and went down to overwhelming defeat when Proposition 5 was placed on the Anchorage Municipal ballot in 2012.

Miller concluded, “While I vehemently disagree with offering special rights based upon one’s sexual preference and thereby creating government-mandated discrimination against people of faith, the idea of government by fiat should be repugnant to all Americans, regardless of their political ideology.”

The president made his pitch to “especially all the moms out there who may have young people – 26, 27, do not have health insurance, but they think they’re invincible and nothing’s ever going to happen to ‘em – what we’ve said is you never know what life is going to throw at ya.” For example, a president who lies about keeping your plan and keeping your doctor. You didn’t see that coming! But DeGeneres said “everyone’s very grateful” for Obamacare:

DEGENERES: It’s doing very, very well…you’ve got 5 million people signed up so far. [Applause] An enormous number of people have signed up, so it’s successful….Well, for people who are starting to applaud here, I think everyone’s very grateful that you did this. And I think it is important for people to sign up. It’s just better to be covered. You just never know.
