Liberals Increasingly Comparing Global Warming to Slavery

Prominent liberals are increasingly comparing global warming to slavery.

By Michael Bastasch.

On Earth Day, liberal MSNBC host Chris Hayes published a piece for The Nation which compared the political economy of global warming to the political economy of slavery. Hayes compared the financial interests of preserving slavery to the financial interests of burning hydrocarbons which environmentalists say cause global warming.

“The last time in American history that some powerful set of interests relinquished its claim on $10 trillion of wealth was in 1865 — and then only after four years and more than 600,000 lives lost in the bloodiest, most horrific war we’ve ever fought,” Hayes said, adding he is not trying to morally equate global warming and slavery.

But while Hayes says he disavows moral equivalency, he argues that the only historical equivalent to the politics of global warming is slavery. Hayes writes that “you must confront the fact that the climate justice movement is demanding that an existing set of political and economic interests be forced to say goodbye to trillions of dollars of wealth.”

“It is impossible to point to any precedent other than abolition,” he adds.

How Scared is Obama of Global Warming? So Scared He Emitted 350 Tons of CO2 on Earth Day Alone

By Kyle Becker.

President Obama has told us all how scared he is of global warming, and that if we don’t “act now,” then it will be the second coming of Gozer the Gozerian, aka Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, Gozer the Traveler and Lord of the Sebouillia. (Sorry, not trying to give the Cult of Gozer a bad rap by conflating them with global warmists).

After all, Obama has told us countless times how much we all need to cut back on our emissions and get some “skin in the game,” because if we don’t baby polar bears are going to drown and the earth is going to incinerate in a giant ball of molten lava. Roughly paraphrasing, but that’s the gist.

Well, this is how much Obama loves the planet: he burned 35,000 gallons of fuel and emitted 350 tons of CO2 by his lonesome just on Earth Day alone.

Former US president Jimmy Carter said Tuesday the West should not impose sanctions that would hurt the Russian people over their leaders’ actions in Ukraine.

“So far, we have limited the sanctions to the leadership of Russia, and I think that is the proper approach,” the Nobel peace laureate told AFP on the sidelines of a discussion in Paris on climate change.

“I don’t think we would go so far as to impose sanctions that would hurt the Russian people.”

The statesman was taking part in a meeting with students as a member of The Elders group set up to promote human rights around the world.

US Vice President Joe Biden earlier warned Russia of “more costs” and “greater isolation” if it continued to “pull Ukraine apart”.

An 8-year-old Michigan boy with disabilities has been charged with two felonies following an incident where he allegedly assaulted an officer and damaged a police vehicle.

Police were called after Edward Hart ran away from the Hillside Learning and Behavior Center in Allegan and school officials were unable to bring him back.

“He’s ran away from the school before,” Hart’s stepfather, Robert Bluhm, told Fox 17. “And he’s made it to M- 40 before. But he’s never made it as far as he did this time.”

When Hart was apprehended, he “cursed at and assaulted the officer” and then “broke the police camera in the back of the car.”

Despite Gun Sales Being Banned in Chicago, Police Superintendent Still Blaming Lack of Gun Control For Violence

Last night on The Kelly File, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul discussed the recent and ongoing rash of violence in the Windy City. Paul, who was in town for a school choice event, explained that the violence problem in Chicago goes far beyond guns and comes from a lack of leadership, education and guidance for young people in certain parts of the city. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (like Barack Obama) is an opponent of school choice, which allows kids to get out of miserable, failing schools in violent neighborhoods. But thanks to Emanuel’s solid support for teacher’s unions, instead of being able to pursue a future through educational choice, teenagers are trapped in worthless, hopeless schools. Due to a lack of opportunity, they join gangs.

Gang initiations typically require a violent act. Those violent acts usually involve guns that were purchased or stolen illegally by gang members and then are used in crimes (again illegal). When guns aren’t purchased illegally on the street, they’re brought into the city illegally. As Megyn Kelly points out in her introduction, all gun sales in Chicago are already banned, yet the Superintendent of Police Garry McCarthy (and Emanuel) is still blaming a lack of gun control for the violence. He admits murders by gunshot wound are higher in Chicago than the national average, but fails to acknowledge that the rest of the country has less stringent gun control laws. In fact, states and cities with fewer gun control laws and more concealed carry permit holders have lower crime rates.

Children’s Corpses Show Attempts to Escape Sunken South Korean Ferry

Divers swam through the water Wednesday searching for the bodies of children in cabins and corridors of the sunken South Korean ferry.

According to Reuters, the divers can only see a few inches in front of them in the wreckage of the ship.

Most of the bodies found had broken fingers, presumably from children frantically trying to climb walls or floors to escape, local media reported, according to Reuters.

“We are trained for hostile environments, but it’s hard to be brave when we meet bodies in dark water,” diver Hwang Dae-sik told Reuters.

A maritime professor, who spoke with the third mate who was steering the ferry before it sank, said Wednesday that he suspects there was a problem with the steering gear.

Egypt’s Leader Urges America to Reinstate Military Aid for Fight Against Terror

Egypt’s de facto ruler urged President Obama to restore the military aid suspended last year after Egypt’s armed forces ousted the country’s president and warned that America’s unwillingness to combat Islamic extremists in strife–ridden Arab states was endangering the U.S. and its European and Arab allies.

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the military commander behind the ouster of ex-President Mohamed Morsi, and who holds the title of field marshal, is widely expected to win the country’s presidential elections scheduled for late May. He said that U.S. military aid was badly needed to help Egypt combat Islamist terrorism in the Sinai peninsula and jihadi training camps in Libya near Egypt’s border. America’s unwillingness to help Egypt battle what some have called the largest militant Islamist insurgency in Egypt’s history and to help contain ongoing civil strife in Iraq, Libya and Syria, he said, had created “fertile ground for religious extremism” that would be “disastrous” for both the U.S. and the Arabs.

“The only thing they know is destruction,” he said, speaking of the militant jihadis now battling for power in Syria and other Arab states. “Usama bin Laden was only the first.”

By refusing to deploy western forces to help stabilize Libya after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization overthrew longstanding dictator Muammar Qaddafi in late 2011, he said, the U.S. and other NATO members had created a political vacuum that had left Libya at the mercy of “extremists, assassins, and murderers.” “History will judge you severely,” he declared.

Yet during most of this rare, two-hour meeting with a small group of American national security specialists and journalists in Cairo last week, Sisi repeatedly stressed Egypt’s desire for strong ties with, and support from Washington. America and its allies, he said, had an interest in avoiding further chaos in Egypt and in helping restore political stability and economic growth in the Arabs’ most populous nation. Egypt, whose population totaled 94 million people in March and which adds one million new Egyptians to its ranks every nine months, needs “substantial” economic support to overcome “monumental’ challenges, he said.

From sea to shining sea, the Convention of States movement is sweeping the nation.

I’m pleased to announce that Florida and Alaska have both officially passed the Convention of States application to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

The Alaska Senate passed the Convention of States application (HJR 22) on Saturday by a vote of 12-8, and the Florida House passed the Convention of States application (SM 476) yesterday by a voice vote.

Why True American Conservatives Cannot Be Extremist and How Progressives are Ultimately Tyrants

It seems only yesterday, before the soothing elixir of “hope and change” was spoonfed to us by present-President Barack Obama, that Republicans could disagree with Democrats without being branded “teabaggers,” KKK-members, anarchists, Nazis, bomb throwers, arsonists, political terrorists or extremists.

The unspeakable crime of conservatives? Their heartless desire to live their own lives and to be left alone by the bullying U.S. government.

What has been the conservative outcry since disco was still a thing? Follow the Constitution, be fiscally responsible, and restore limited government.

Not to impose their will on anyone; and if anything, simply to work, prosper, express themselves freely and be allowed to watch the new season of 24 in peace.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t jibe with the progressives’ plans for control over Americans’ lives – regarding everything from education to dish detergent. There is no natural barrier to the left’s powerlust: the “progressive” seeks no less than to control the social and physical environment of all mankind.

U.S. Senate Candidate Joe Miller Draws Large Crowd for Campaign Kickoff (+video)

Redemption makes for a powerful story. So does being an underdog who claims to speak truth to power. Of the three candidates running to be the Republican nominee in the U.S. Senate race–Joe Miller, Mead Treadwell and Dan Sullivan–only Miller can claim both. Both Treadwell and Sullivan have much going for them, but they don’t have the power of those two stories.

This wasn’t lost on the fired up crowd of as many as 200 on Monday night at the Wasilla Lake Resort where they gathered for Miller’s official campaign kickoff. As most know, Miller ran in 2010, won the primary, and then suffered a devastating loss to Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s write-in bid. It was a brutal campaign, and Miller’s reputation took a beating.

But some things are different this time. Miller’s official campaign kickoff in 2010 was in the town square in Anchorage. About 12 people showed, said Mark Fish, who has been one of Miller’s main volunteers from the beginning. “I think I begged six of my libertarian friends to come,” Fish said.

And Miller appears to be softer and more relaxed this time around. On the stage on Monday, he was even able to poke fun of the fact that in 2010, a member of his “security” detail handcuffed Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger at a campaign event. Referring to his young children who were sitting next to him who are taking martial arts, Miller said that this time “we decided to have in-house security.”

It was probably the loudest laugh line of the night from a crowd that wasn’t shy about laughing, as well as yelling out an occasional “Amen,” or “Say it like it is Joe.”

The event lasted more than 2 hours, and featured national radio talk show host Lars Larson. Tim Macy, vice chairman of the Gun Owners of America, flew up that morning from California for the event. Adele Morgan and Paul Wainamo sang songs about God and country. Speeches about liberty, guns and God were made. It was a classic Wasilla tea party, with some beer on tap.

Before Miller spoke, they showed the above three minute video about Miller and his life. It’s easy to forget that Miller actually has an impressive resume. He went to West Point and has a law degree from Yale. He was awarded the Bronze Star in Desert Storm. He has a masters in economics from UAF. And he was raised by poor parents in Kansas. He has eight kids, and is now a grandfather. And he now will have run twice for U.S. Senate and has developed a large following.

Another thing that’s changed since 2010: Miller has developed a stump speech that is actually digestible. He still talks with passion about repealing ObamaCare, abolishing the IRS, and federal overreach. But he doesn’t go on and on. And on Monday, he peppered his speech with the personal. He told a story about being a little boy with a disfigured lip from a fall. He alluded to being bullied because of it. He talked about working for his father’s bookstore and mowing lawns to get enough money to pay for an operation to fix it. He raised the money, took the bus to Wichita, and got his lip fixed.

He was only in 7th grade.

The money is going to be tight for Miller. Although all told he has about $300,000 cash on hand, he only raised $101,000 last quarter. Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell has less cash on hand, but he has name recognition and long history in the state. The big money is on former DNR Commissioner Dan Sullivan, who raised $1.4 million last quarter alone and has about $2 million on hand.

But then again, Miller won the last primary with only $300,000 against Murkowski’s huge war chest.

Miller didn’t mention Sullivan in his speech, but it’s clear that he’s going to attack him as the establishment candidate who is supported by those partaking in “generational theft,” and by the “same forces” that fought him so hard in the last election.

I asked him what’s different since the last election and why he thinks he can win now when he didn’t then.

He pointed to the crowd. “Look at this,” he said. “This is different.”
