Selbyville Mother Arrested After Child Brings Heroin to Daycare (+video)

Photo Credit: Delaware State PoliceDelaware State Police say troopers arrested a Selbyville woman after her 4-year-old daughter brought more than 200 bags of heroin into a daycare and began passing it out to other children.

Troopers said it happened shortly before noon Monday at Hickory Tree Child Care Center, located on Community Lane in Selbyville. Police said daycare providers noticed the problem after seeing some children with small bags containing an unknown white powdery substance. The substance, which was still in the bags, was removed by the teachers and taken to the Selbyville Police Department where it was determined to be heroin.

Delaware State Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the child thought the packets were candy and gave them to her classmates. Hickory Tree Assistant Director Tamicka Goodman said employees found several children holding the packets immediately after they had been passed out by the 4-year-old.

“They found it right when she passed it out,” Goodman said. “So we do thank God that they had a watchful eye and most of all we thank God that none of the children were injured.”
