A controversial Indiana bill that could protect business owners who don’t want to provide services for same-sex couples moved closer to law on Monday, after passage by the state’s House.
Senate Bill 101, known as the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” was approved by the Republican-controlled House by 63-31. A version was previously passed by the Republican-controlled Senate, and Republican Governor Mike Pence said he will sign it.
“The legislation, SB 101, is about respecting and reassuring Hoosiers that their religious freedoms are intact,” Pence said in a statement. The bill will now go back to the Senate and if that chamber concurs with the House version, it will go to Pence for being signed into law.
Supporters of the law say it will keep government entities from forcing business owners – such as bakeries and florists who don’t want to provide services to gay couples – from acting in ways contrary to strongly held religious beliefs. Gay marriage became legal in Indiana last year following an appellate court ruling. (Read more from “Indiana House Passes Controversial ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill” HERE)
By Deborah Hamilton. A recent ruling in Arizona may have set a frightening precedent, as judges there were ordered to perform same-sex weddings if they do any weddings at all—regardless of whether doing so violates their faith.
According to a report last week by the Associated Press, a recently issued opinion by a state judiciary ethics advisory committee in Arizona says “turning away same-sex couples would violate a state judicial-conduct rule against bias or prejudice based on sexual orientation.”
Therefore, judges must perform same-sex weddings, even if their morals and beliefs contradict the practice. The opinion also said that “a judge’s religious or other personal beliefs don’t make a difference nor does it matter if the judge performs weddings at non-court locations.”(Read more from “Arizona Judges Told They Must Perform Same-Sex Marriages If They Do Any Weddings” HERE)
By Peter Sprigg. Advocates of redefining “marriage” to include same-sex couples use a number of arguments that can best be described as “myths.” The reality is often quite different. For example:
MYTH: A “one man and one woman” definition imposes a religious definition of marriage on civil society.
REALITY: The definition of marriage is rooted in nature itself. The sexual union of a man and a woman is what reproduces the human race. The durable commitment of that man and woman to one another is what provides children with a mother and father. This is important for people of any religion or of no religion.
MYTH: Children don’t actually need both a mother and a father.
REALITY: An overwhelming body of social science evidence demonstrates that children raised by their own mother and father, who are committed to one another in a lifelong marriage, are happier, healthier and more prosperous than children raised in any other household setting. By Newsmax. Russia called for a ban on American nuclear weapons in parts of Europe, saying the U.S. is breaking an international agreement by holding joint nuclear training missions with NATO allies that don’t possess such weapons.
Using ships and airfields as well as training crews from non-nuclear states from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in such exercises is “in direct contradiction to the letter and spirit” of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, or NPT, ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement on its website. Vladimir Putin’s ‘Night Wolves’ Biker Gang Storms Ukraine
By Mary Chastain. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s biker gang, the Night Wolves, is causing a ruckus in east Ukraine as it lends a hand to the pro-Russian rebels and Russian soldiers.
“My love for my homeland, for my territory, is my life,” announced Vitali, the leader of the east Ukraine branch.
The Night Wolves originated in Russia in 1983 and is very close to Putin, who even rode with them during a bike festival in August 2011.
“I’m a Night Wolf, not a rebel,” claimed Vitali. “I’m just defending my homeland.”
Vitali, who also goes by “Prosecutor,” is based in Lugansk. The headquarters includes “two charred Ukrainian tank turrets” as decoration items at the entrance. He said his men destroyed the tanks “during a battle with government troops” and calls them their “trophies.” The majority of the members in Lugansk are from Ukraine, but some members from Russia leaked in. A Senate committee advanced legislation Monday that would update state laws related to marijuana crimes.
The Senate Finance Committee moved the bill after adopting a new version.
SB 30, would update state crimes now that certain recreational use and possession of marijuana is legal for adults 21 and older. It sets out the crimes for possession of larger amounts of marijuana, allows emergency responders under 21 to enter marijuana businesses, and prohibits delivery or transportation of marijuana for sale or barter.
It also would prohibit a commercial or retail marijuana industry in the state’s unorganized borough outside of municipalities, although it allows established villages to opt back in.
The most contentious of the amendments the committee discussed earlier in the month, which would have banned marijuana concentrates beginning in 2017, was not included in the version of the bill the committee advanced. (Read more from “Alaska Senate Panel Advances Bill Regarding Pot Crimes” HERE)
A team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a test reentry vehicle today at 3:36 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
Every test launch verifies the accuracy and reliability of the ICBM weapon system, providing valuable data to ensure a safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent. The launch team, under the direction of the 576th Flight Test Squadron, Vandenberg AFB, included Airmen from the 90th Missile Wing at F. E. Warren AFB, Wyoming.
“A lot of work and preparation goes in to an operational test launch from the teams on both bases,” said Lt. Col Tytonia Moore, 90th MW, Task Force commander. “With these launches, we not only verify our processes and the ICBM weapon system, we provide a visual to the world that the Minuteman III is capable of striking pretty much anywhere with extreme precision.”
“The role we play here is vital to the testing and evaluation of the Minuteman III program,” said Col. Kelvin Townsend, 576th Flight Test Squadron commander. “We ensure the facilities and framework are in place to conduct operational test launches in a safe and secure manner with multiple team players contributing to the reliability of the test.” (Read more from “F. The harmful effects of smoking during pregnancy may be reflected in the facial movements of mothers’ unborn babies, new research has suggested.
Researchers at Lancaster and Durham universities said the findings of their pilot study added weight to existing evidence that smoking is harmful to fetuses as they develop in the womb and warranted further investigation.
Professor Brian Francis, of Lancaster University, said: “Technology means we can now see what was previously hidden, revealing how smoking affects the development of the fetus in ways we did not realise. This is yet further evidence of the negative effects of smoking in pregnancy.”
Observing 4-d ultrasound scans, the researchers found that fetuses whose mothers were smokers showed a significantly higher rate of mouth movements than the normal declining rate of movements expected in a fetus during pregnancy.
The researchers suggested that the reason for this might be that the fetal central nervous system, which controls movements in general and facial movements in particular did not develop at the same rate and in the same manner as in fetuses of mothers who did not smoke during pregnancy. Recently some fifty prominent British atheists sent a letter to the London Telegraph protesting the Prime Minister referring to England as a “Christian” nation. Oddly, the infamous Oxford professor and world-renowned atheist, author of “The God Delusion”, Richard Dawkin’s name was absent.
Apparently he is now describing himself as a “secular Christian”. He stated at the 2014 Hay Festival that while he was not spiritual, he longed for the traditions and nostalgia of the church!
But sadly in most of Europe and across the Atlantic there continues to be a mass exodus from the nostalgia and traditions of the church. Instead of describing themselves as secular anything, millions are now claiming to be spiritual but not religious! This is the new mantra. Secularism is on the way out. Spirituality is in!
But what kind of spirituality is this? In August 2009 Newsweek Magazine featured an article “We Are All Hindus Now”. The author cites a poll that reveals that 65 percent of Americans believe that many religions can lead to eternal life, including 37 percent of white evangelicals, the group most likely to believe that salvation is theirs alone.
Goodbye secular humanism. Hello Oneism!
There are many threats in the world today from ISIS to Ebola, from Iran to the shredding of our Constitution by a rogue president! But none so pervasive as “Oneism”. It’s never mentioned in the news. Not talked about in churches or over the dinner table. But the most formable enemy is lurking right at our door! Even at the door of the church!
So what is it? I call it the “Neo-Pagan Jihad”. And you thought only Muslims could have jihad. Oneism is pagan cosmology.
Here’s how it goes courtesy of Dr. Peter Jones of The Truth Exchange.
All is one: everything is divine. There is no external god but spirituality is in ourselves and in the universe around us.
Humanity is one: Everyone shares in the divine power. If we all unite, we can bring the world to a new level of happiness and peace.
All Religions are one: Each religion has some of the truth. If we bring them all together, we will discover real spirituality.
Oneism seeks to erase all distinctions that keep us from true unity. This is where the big rub with a Biblical cosmology comes in. God has made distinctions: Creator/creation; male/female; human/animal and so forth. Do you see where I am going?
If you look at the major breakdowns in our culture you will find the blurring of distinctions. Gender-neutral is just the tip of the iceberg! It goes all the way down to the equality of plants and humans in environmentalism gone mad! (See “The War On Humans” at Fellowship Of The Minds)
A Biblical cosmology embraces “Twoism”.
All is two: There are two kinds of reality: God and creation. God is eternal, triune, personable, loving and awesome. He made everything that exists.
Humanity is Two: There are two kinds of people: those who are for God and those who are against him. There is no neutral ground.
All Religions are Two: Spirituality means worship and service. We worship and serve either God or something created.
But is this new? There is nothing new under the sun as Solomon said and Oneism has been baking in the sun since the first bite of an apple.
The Apostle Paul recognized it in his day. In Romans chapter one he spells it out.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. Romans 1: 18-27
The wrath of God is revealed from heaven because the truth men know about God is being suppressed, leading to ungodliness and unrighteousness! God receives no honor or thanksgiving!
There are three basic exchanges that are made and they are not good exchanges!
1) The exchange of the glory of the immortal God for images.
2) The exchange of truth about God for a lie.
3) The exchange of the natural for the unnatural.
Again take a look at our culture and you will see every breakdown involves one or more of these exchanges. These bad exchanges are the blurring of distinctions! What’s wrong is right and what’s right is wrong. Relativism. Tolerance trumps truth. All guilt is removed, no judging allowed.
So now we have homosexual churches and pastors, Christian Yoga (Hinduism’s sneaky evangelistic program), contemplative prayer, trance worship, and emergent churches that have emerged right out of a true generous orthodoxy! Add this to many evangelicals who view the Bible as mythology or a legalistic set of rules to earn their way to heaven! A 2015 poll showed that 64% of evangelical millenials support same-sex marriages! (Taken from the Gay site Freedomtomarry.org who’s mantra is “Love Must Win”) Where have we heard that phrase before?
Many major churches and ministries are backing away from the issue. I’m embarrassed to mention them! I guess love without truth must win? (1 Cor. 13: 6)
It’s all exchange. The Gospel for the “not so gospel exchange” even in our holy sanctuaries! But then moral relativism screams, “Judge not lest ye be judged”.
The physical, intellectual and spiritual truths are all being suppressed by the spirit of the age! And God turned them over to what? Read it!
While oneism worships and serves the creation as divine, twoism worships and serves the eternal, personal creator of all things! While oneism eliminates all distinctions, twoism proclaims that God alone is divine and is distinct from his creation, yet through his Son Jesus, he is in loving communion with it! He is transforming redeemed lives to their original design for real glory!
Scott Wesley Brown (born June 4, 1952, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American CCM singer and songwriter.
Brown recorded for Sparrow Records for much of his career, recording 24 albums; his songs have been covered by Petra, Pat Boone, Bruce Carroll, Sandi Patty, Amy Grant, and Opera Star Plácido Domingo. Brown has also worked with organizations such as Promise Keepers and Campus Crusade for Christ, and was a worship pastor in San Diego.[1]
He toured extensively internationally to over 50 countries. Before recording songs and touring with dozens of artists, he met a young, unfamiliar artist, Steve Camp, fresh out of high school, who would also sing backup while playing acoustic guitar with Brown on “I’m Not Religious, I Love the Lord”, just the year before going on his own, where he had a successful solo career.
Scott Wesley Brown has worked closely with the US. Center for World Mission, ACMC (Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment) and teaches many worship and mission seminars in addition to maintaining an active concert schedule. Scott presently lives and serves as the Pastor of SONSHIP Community Church in North County San Diego. He received his ordination from the Southern Baptist convention in 1998 yet has continued his seminary education through Phoenix and Westminster Seminaries.

By Joshua M. Patton. In 2013 there was a somewhat-funny story about how Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz discovered he was a Canadian citizen and then immediately renounced his Canadian citizenship, because: ‘Murica.
He has since released his birth certificate, perhaps hoping to stave off the citizenship questions orbiting his nascent campaign for President.
Ted Cruz’s mother was an American which makes Ted Cruz an American, meaning he can run for President all he likes. However, because politics are funny like that, Cruz finds himself in the same boat as President Obama, in that some people think he’s not eligible to be President*.
As you can see in the video above, the ladies of The View had a little fun at Cruz’s expense. Rosie Perez seemed to think it would be “a huge issue” because of the birther movement. Since his likely voters probably consist of those who still think President Obama is a Kenyan-born secret-Muslim, it is unclear if this reverse-birtherism is actually a boon for his campaign or one of his opponents. (Read more from “People Called for Ted Cruz’s Birth Certificate Because He’s Canadian” HERE)
By Gary Robertson/Thomson. Casting himself as the leader of a grassroots army, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz made an explicit appeal to Christian conservatives on Monday as he became the first major figure to jump into the 2016 U.S. presidential race.
Cruz’s unyielding tactics in Washington have made him a hero to many on the Tea Party right and a thorn in the side of the Republican establishment. Seeking to break into the front ranks of candidates, Cruz solicited the support of born-again Christians who play a major role in states with early nominating contests.
Speaking at Liberty University, a Christian school founded by televangelist Jerry Falwell, Cruz discussed his Baptist faith in personal terms and urged religious conservatives who have sat out recent elections to get off the sidelines.
“Imagine instead millions of people of faith all across America coming out to the polls and voting our values,” he said. (Read more from this story HERE)
A Long Island woman’s insistence that President Obama follows her on Twitter made doctors at the Harlem Hospital psych ward think she was delusional and suffering from bipolar disorder — but she was actually telling the truth, a lawsuit charges.
Kam Brock’s frightening eight-day “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” ordeal at the mental facility included forced injections of powerful sedatives and demands she down doses of lithium, medical records obtained through her suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court show.
They also indicate that doctors didn’t believe the leader of the free world followed her on Twitter — though @BarackObama follows over 640,000 accounts, including hers. They were also skeptical she worked at a bank, records show.
“I told (the doctor) Obama follows me on Twitter to show her the type of person I am. I’m a good person, a positive person. Obama follows positive people!” Brock, whose Twitter handle is @AkilahBrock, said . . .
Adding insult to insanity, the hospital hit Brock with a bill of $13,637.10, she charges in her suit seeking unspecified damages. (Read more from “This Woman Was Sent to a Psych Ward for Claiming Obama Did This [+video]” HERE)

After Franklin Graham spoke boldly against the shooting of police officers, a group of pastors, theologians and professors are raising red flags . . .
In his Facebook post, Graham said it all boils down to respect for authority—something younger generations tend to be lacking.
“If a police officer tells you to lay down face first with your hands behind your back, you lay down face first with your hands behind your back. It’s as simple as that. Even if you think the police officer is wrong—YOU OBEY,” Graham writes.
But the group who penned the open letter—including Rachel Held Evans; Gail Song Bantum, whose church bought the old Mars Hill Church building; and Efrem Smith, among others—say Graham has sinned against the Christian community at large.
“You have sinned against us, fellow members of the body of Christ. … Your words hurt and influenced thousands. Therefore, we must respond publicly so that those you hurt might know you have received a reply and the hundreds of thousands you influenced might know that following your lead on this issue will break the body of Christ further,” they write [their open letter appears below]. (Read more from “Pastors Rebuke Franklin Graham for ‘Sins’ Against Christian Community” HERE)
We write to you in the spirit of Matthew 18: we aim to reconcile with you. You have sinned against us, fellow members of the body of Christ. While your comments on March 12 were just a Facebook post, your post was shared by more than 83,000 people and liked by nearly 200,000 as of Monday morning, March 14, 2015. Your words hurt and influenced thousands. Therefore, we must respond publicly so that those you hurt might know you have received a reply and the hundreds of thousands you influenced might know that following your lead on this issue will break the body of Christ further.
Frankly, Rev. Graham, your insistence that “Blacks, Whites, Latinos, and everybody else” “Listen up,” was crude, insensitive, and paternalistic. Your comments betrayed the confidence that your brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those of color, have afforded your father’s ministry for decades. Your instructions oversimplified a complex and critical problem facing the nation and minimized the testimonies and wisdom of people of color and experts of every hue, including six police commissioners that served on the president’s task force on policing reform.
In the nadir of your commentary, you tell everyone to “OBEY” any instruction from authorities and suggest that the recent shootings of unarmed citizens “might have been avoided” if the victims had submitted to authority.
And you bluntly insist, “It’s as simple as that.”
It is not that simple. As a leader in the church, you are called to be an ambassador of reconciliation. The fact that you identify a widely acknowledged social injustice as “simple” reveals your lack of empathy and understanding of the depth of sin that some in the body have suffered under the weight of our broken justice system. It also reveals a cavalier disregard for the enduring impacts and outcomes of the legal regimes that enslaved and oppressed people of color, made in the image of God — from Native American genocide and containment, to colonial and antebellum slavery, through Jim Crow and peonage, to our current system of mass incarceration and criminalization.
As your brothers and sisters in Christ, who are also called to lead the body, we are disappointed and grieved by your abuse of the Holy Scriptures. You lifted Hebrews 13:17 out of its biblical context and misappropriated it in a way that encourages believers to acquiesce to an injustice that God hates. That text refers to church leadership, not the secular leadership of Caesar.
Are you also aware that your commentary resonates with the types of misinterpretations and rhetoric echoed by many in the antebellum church? Are you aware that the southern slavocracy validated the systematic subjugation of human beings made in the image of God by instructing these enslaved human beings to “obey their masters because the Bible instructed them to do so?”
Your blanket insistence on obedience in every situation exposes an ignorance of church history. God called Moses to resist and disobey unjust authority. Joseph and Mary were led by the Spirit to seek asylum in Egypt, disobeying the unjust decrees passed down by authority figures in order to ensure the safety of Jesus. And Paul himself resisted authority and ultimately wrote Romans 13 from jail.
In modern times, Christian brothers and sisters abided by Paul’s command to the persecuted Roman church. They presented their bodies as living sacrifices. They refused to conform to the oppressive patterns of this world. Rather, they were transformed by the renewing of their minds. (Romans 12:1-2) Throughout the Jim Crow South, in El Salvador, and in the townships and cities of South Africa Jesus followers disobeyed civil authority as an act of obedience to God — the ultimate authority, the Lord, who loves and demands justice (Psalm 146:5-9, Isaiah 58, Isaiah 61, Micah 4:1-5, all the prophets, Luke 4:16-21, Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 25:31-46, Galatians 3:27-28). Likewise, Christians who marched in Ferguson, Mo., New York City, and Madison, Wis., follow in the holy footsteps of their faithful predecessors.
As one who understands human depravity, your statement demonstrates a profound disregard for the impact of sinful individuals when given power to craft systems and structures that govern millions. The outcome is oppression and impoverishment — in a word, injustice.
Finally, if you insist on blind obedience, then you must also insist that officers of the justice system obey the U.S. Constitution, which protects the right of all to equal protection under the law. Yet, reports confirm unconscious racial biases in policing, booking, sentencing, and in return produce racially disparate outcomes within our broken justice system.
Likewise, you must also call on officers to honor their sworn duty to protect and serve without partiality. The Federal Bureau of Investigations director, James B. Comey, acknowledges that law enforcement has fallen short of this mandate : “First, all of us in law enforcement must be honest enough to acknowledge that much of our history is not pretty. At many points in American history, law enforcement enforced the status quo, a status quo that was often brutally unfair to disfavored groups.”
Let us be clear: We love, support, and pray for our police officers. We understand that many are doing an excellent job under extremely trying circumstances. We also understand that many officers are burdened by systems that routinely mete out inequitable racialized outcomes.
For the past nine months, many of your fellow Christian clergy have been engaged in sorrowful lament, prayerful protest, spirit-led conversations, and careful scriptural study to discern a Godly response to these inequitable racialized outcomes within America’s justice system. We have wrestled with God like Jacob, begging God to bless us with peace in our streets and justice in our courts.
Rev. Graham, as our brother in Christ and as a leader in the church, we forgive you and we pray that one day you will recognize and understand the enduring legacy of the institution of race in our nation.
Now is the time for you to humbly listen to the cries of lamentation rising nationwide. We do not expect you to be an expert in racial issues, police brutality, or even the many factors that go in to our complicated and unjust criminal system. We do, however, expect you to follow the example of leaders and followers of Jesus throughout the scriptures and modern history. We expect you to seek wise counsel and guidance first from those who bear the weight of the injustice and second from other experts in the field.
Ultimately, we invite you to join us in the ongoing work of the ministry of reconciliation.
