“Give me a fast ship, for I intend to go in Harm’s Way.”
John Paul Jones

The below video shows a US Navy ship encountering heavy seas while in transit. During my 10 years of sea duty, while serving in 6 Navy Destroyers and in one Navy Amphib, I encountered heavier seas in the North Atlantic than those recorded in the below listed video. My Navy ships transited the seven seas, circumnavigated the globe twice, crossed the equator 6 times, visited every continent, and made port calls in 38 countries.

Photo Shows Powerful Moment Between Mom Battling Cancer and Her Newborn Baby

A photographer’s powerful photo, showing a beautiful moment between a mother battling cancer and her newborn baby, is touching so many people.

According to photographer Kate Murray, the mom, who is not identified, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer halfway through her pregnancy. In her Facebook post, Murray says the woman had one breast removed, underwent chemotherapy while carrying her child, and then was induced at 36 weeks in order to receive more treatment.

The Facebook post:

“Baby BOY was born ready to prove to the world his strength he inherited from his strong mommy. He latched on to her remaining breast all on his own and the room erupted in so many emotions. Breastfeeding is such a sacred bond, and this one just makes my heart break and swell at the same time. I am beyond blessed to have met and gotten to know this woman and her family, and so honored she asked me to be there to document these precious moments.”

Alaska Commuter Air Carrier Suffered Operational, Training Flaws Before Crash

Handout photo of a Cessna 208 that crashed in southwest AlaskaAn Alaska commuter airline routinely failed to inform pilots of shifting weather conditions and other hazards leading up to a 2013 crash in western Alaska that killed four people, the National Transportation Safety Board said on Friday.

The Cessna 208B, a single-engine turboprop, had been heading from Bethel to Mountain Village in deteriorating winter weather and crashed about a mile (1.6 km) southeast of St. Mary’s Airport in southwestern Alaska. The pilot and three passengers were killed, and six passengers survived with serious injuries.

Prior to the crash, Hageland Aviation Services Inc had failed to follow its own risk assessment plan, and on the day the plane went down the flight coordinators on duty had not been trained properly in those procedures, according to NTSB crash investigation documents released on Thursday.

“The hardest thing is to get this company to police itself,” Dale Hansen, a Federal Aviation Administration manager in Anchorage, told NTSB investigators. “If we’re not there to watch them, you know, we’re not really sure half the time if they’re doing it right.”

The airline, operated at the time as Era Alaska, which is now called Ravn Alaska, also failed to routinely inform pilots of weather conditions and other possible hazards, the preliminary report found. 100% Student Walkout for Common Core SBAC Test at Seattle High School

schoolNot a single 11th grade student showed up to take the SBAC test at Nathan Hale High School this week, a Seattle Public Schools spokesperson confirmed.

The news that 100% of the 11th graders opted out of the test was first reported on an education blog.

State Superintendent Randy Dorn released a statement Friday on the potential “fallout” from students opting out of testing. Dorn said there could be academic and financial consequences for the state of Washington if students don’t take the SBAC.

“No test is perfect. But the Smarter Balanced tests, with their emphasis on real-world skills, are better than any standardized test our state has administered before,” Dorn said in a statement.

He said without the testing results, educators will have a harder time identifying learning gaps in the student population and that results will be less reliable. Dorn also pointed to federal expectations, saying that without a 95% participation rate, the Department of Education could cut funding to schools and label Washington as “high risk.” (Read more from “No Juniors Show up to Take Common Core SBAC Test at Seattle High School” HERE)

Christian Activists Claim They’re Ready to Die in Fight Against Gay Marriage [+videos]

bishopewjackson_featuredSeveral Christian activists appeared at a press conference today at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. where they publicly stated their opposition to gay marriage, which the U.S. Supreme Court will be hearing a case on next week.

C-SPAN noted: “Speakers said they would not abide by, respect, or follow a decision by the Supreme Court that allows same-sex couples to get married. They argued such as decision infringed upon religious freedom and was an assault on religious people.”

Bishop E.W. Jackson compared Christians in America to Christian students who were killed in Kenya by terrorists, reported [the extreme left wing] RightWingWatch.org (video below).

Bishop Jackson lamented that no “matter how loving we try to be” Christians are called out for discriminating against gay people. He cited a florist who turned down a gay customer who wanted a floral arrangement for his same-sex wedding. Michelle Obama isn’t winning over many fans in the next generation of voters.

Pennsylvania’s Patriot-News asked parents what they thought of the steady drip of repulsive pictures being snapped of paltry school lunches across the country . . .

“My son said thanks Mrs. Obama for screwing us out of a good meal. He comes home starving,” parent Kristina Souders responded.

“My kids rarely want to eat anything the school serves because ‘it’s gross,’” according to parent Stacey Toth.

Carl Daub told the paper, “My daughter is in 3rd grade. Her lunches cost $2.40 a day. She complains that the portions are too small.” (Read more from “Students rip school lunches: #ThanksMichelleObama ‘for screwing us out of a good meal’” HERE)

Male ROTC Cadets Ordered to Wear Women’s High Heels in Uniform Creates Outrage, Spurs Review

download (10)The Army’s Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, is reviewing Reserve Officer Training Command cadet participation in a sexual assault awareness 5K walk/run event in which cadets at Temple University in Philadelphia wore high-heeled shoes with their uniforms.

The command announced the investigation following criticism of the cadets’ participation by those who saw photos of the events on Twitter and Facebook, with some demanding unit commanders should be fired.

While ROTC command acknowledged that units were told to take part in the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, it “did not direct how the units would participate,” command spokesman Lt. Col. Paul Haverstick said in a statement.

“We are currently gathering facts in order to review how local ROTC units implemented their participation in these events designed to raise awareness on the issue of sexual assault,” he said.

Cadets with Arizona State University’s ROTC unit also took part in the walk/run there, many donning heels but not their uniforms. (Read more from “ROTC Cadets Wearing High Heels in Uniform for Sexual Assault Awareness Spurs Review” HERE)

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt Pushes for Bibles in Public Schools

scottpruitt1_featuredThe attorney general of Oklahoma earlier this month defended schools who allowed citizens to distribute Bibles to students, and claimed that the country’s religious freedoms are under attack.

“Few things are as sacred and as fundamental to Oklahomans as the constitutional rights of free speech and the free exercise of religion,” Attorney General Scott Pruitt wrote in a letter to public school superintendents, according to Tulsa World. “It is a challenging time in our country for those who believe in religious liberty. Our religious freedoms are under constant attack from a variety of groups who seek to undermine our constitutional rights and threaten our founding principles.”

Pruitt sent the letter in response to complaints that a third-grade teacher in the Duncan Public School district in Oklahoma distributed Gideon Bibles to her students. After the American Humanist Association threatened to sue, the school district responded by forbidding teachers or administrators from distributing religious material to students, RNS reported.

Andrew Seidel, the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s attorney, told Tulsa World that the organization wrote to 26 Oklahoma school districts in February about complaints that Jamison Faught, the adult son of state Rep. George Fought, R-Muskogee, was working with Gideons International to hand out Bibles to numerous schools. Sad Bruce Jenner: ‘I’m a Republican and a Christian’ [+video]

bruce-jenner-e1429542862721After months of speculation that he was transitioning into a woman, Bruce Jenner confirmed the news in an interview with Diane Sawyer that aired on ABC Friday night, clarifying that he is also a Republican and a Christian.

When asked about Barack Obama addressing LGBT rights in his State of the Union, the 65-year-old former Olympic athlete said that didn’t affect him much.

“I’ve always been more on the conservative side,” Jenner said.

Jenner said he is a Christian as well.

“I would sit in church and always wonder, ‘In God’s eyes, how does he see me?’” (Read more from “Sad Bruce Jenner: ‘I’m a Republican and a Christian'” HERE)

“Prestigious” John Hopkins University Votes To Ban Chik-Fil-A From Campus

chickfilahopkinsJohn Hopkins University students voted this week to ban Chick-fil-A from campus, according to reports.

Though there are currently no plans to bring the fast food restaurant to the school’s campus, the Student Government Association approved a resolution that called for University officials to dismiss any “current and future Chick-fil-A development plans,” if consideration was ever given to the restaurant becoming a food vendor on campus.

The resolution called for Johns Hopkins to consider “other non-discriminatory options” for vendors. A Chick-fil-A on campus, according to the SGA, would be a “microaggression” towards “visiting prospective and current students, staff, faculty, and other visitors who are members of the LGBTQ community or are allies.” (Read more from “John Hopkins University Votes To Ban Chik-Fil-A From Campus” HERE)
