Will the Establishment Reps Abandoning RINOcare Spell Its Defeat?

Is RINOcare DOA? It sure looks like it.

House Republican leadership has been putting the squeeze on conservative members to toe the party line on health care reform. Speaker Paul Ryan has characterized support for the current legislation as a “binary choice” between repealing Obamacare or keeping the law forever.

“This is the closest we will ever get to repealing and replacing Obamacare,” he said. “It really comes down to a binary choice.”

Well, after the Congressional Budget Office released its report on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), now it’s the moderates and progressive Republicans who are threatening to kill the bill.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) declared Tuesday she would vote “No” on the AHCA, based on the liberal “uninsured” argument.

Rep. Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) said he believes the bill will likely fail in the Senate, which gives him an excuse not to vote for it in the House. “I do not want to vote on a bill that has no chance of passing over in the Senate,” Lance said this week. “The CBO score has modified the dynamics.” And then there’s Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Penn.), who blamed conservatives for pushing RINOcare too far to the right by demanding a rollback of Medicaid expansion.

Over on the Senate side, Bill Cassidy (R-La.) is accusing President Trump of breaking his promise on health care reform. Not because the Republican plan does not fully repeal Obamacare, but rather because the recent CBO estimate that 24 million will lose their insurance by 2026 under the American Health Care Act. “That’s not what President Trump promised,” Cassidy told CNN. “That’s not what Republicans ran on.”

The Republican Party needs 51 votes in the Senate to send the reconciliation repeal bill to President Trump’s desk. If three Republicans defect, the bill dies. Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and Mike Lee (R-Utah) oppose the bill because they believe it does not go far enough to repeal Obamacare’s treacherous policies. Vice President Mike Pence told Conservative Review Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin Tuesday that conservative amendments were expected to be added to the legislation to make it more palatable.

But when you consider how Republican moderates think the bill already goes too far, things look bleak for the American Health Care Act in the U.S. Senate.

What is the GOP to do? Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) suggests that if the party can’t come to a consensus, they should leave Obamacare alone, to implode all its own.

President Trump has also floated this idea. “Let it be a disaster,” Trump told state governors recently, explaining his Plan B in the health care fight. “[B]ecause we can blame that on the Dems that are in our room, and we can blame that on the Democrats and President Obama.”

Trump can certainly blame Obama and the Democrats for the collapse of the health insurance market. But those criticisms won’t be as effectual as he believes, because the Democrats are out of power. Republicans hold Congress and the White House now; voters expect them to act. They want promises of full repeal delivered on. RINOcare does not keep Republican promises.

The GOP is well and truly caught between a rock and a hard place. If they make the bill more conservative with amendments, more progressive Republicans will bolt. If they water down the bill further, conservatives won’t vote for it.

If Republicans want to save face, they should take the Freedom Caucus’ lead — take up and vote on the 2015 full repeal bill that every Republican previously voted for. Senator Mike Lee made such a case at The Daily Signal this week, noting the 2015 bill has already cleared the “Byrd rule” hurdle. So, if Republicans were actually serious about repealing Obamacare in 2015, this bill should fly through Congress straight to President Trump’s desk now.

That is, if Republicans were actually serious about repealing Obamacare. (For more from the author of “Will the Establishment Reps Abandoning RINOcare Spell Its Defeat?” please click HERE)

House Intel Committee Seeks Names of Obama Officials Who Requested ‘Unmasking’ of Americans Picked up on Surveillance

The leaders of the House Intelligence Committee asked the three leaders of the intelligence community Wednesday about any time during the last seven months of the Obama administration whenever any of its agents and officials improperly named, or “unmasked,” and disseminated the identities of American citizens picked up in intelligence collection.

Chairman Devin Nunes, R-California, and Ranking Member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, wrote that they were concerned that members of the intelligence community have not been sufficiently honoring previously established “robust ‘minimization procedures'” to protect the identities of US citizens, including “masking” their names. The letter they sent refers to the disclosure to the public that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had several conversations with the Russian Ambassador.

The matter is relevant not only because of the House Intelligence Committee’s responsibility to conduct oversight of the intelligence community, but also as it may relate to surveillance of Russians known to US intelligence or any others who may have spoken with any advisers or individuals around then-candidate Donald Trump. 100% of Babies Diagnosed With Down Syndrome in This European Country Are Aborted. Think About That.

In recent remarks to the Citizens Assembly in Ireland, Dr. Peter McParland, an ob-gyn at National Maternity Hospital, pointed to a sign of things to come.

“In Iceland,” the doctor said, “every single baby—100 percent of all those diagnosed with Down syndrome—are aborted” . . .

NBC News points to studies showing the following:

99% of people with Down syndrome are happy with their lives.

97% of people with Down syndrome like who they are.

96% of people with Down syndrome like how they look.

Loretta Lynch and Preet Bharara: The Left’s New Plaster Saints

As I was watching the video of Loretta Lynch, the nation’s former chief law enforcement office, darkly suggesting we might be in for a time when rights are rolled back and the appropriate response might once again include marching, bleeding, and even dying for her cause I had two reactions:

First, with mobs, including students, attacking scholars and property at Berkeley and Middlebury, what could she be thinking?

Second, what office is she running for?

Saint Loretta Lynch

Senate Democrats loved the rhetoric enough to post it on their website. Lynch’s deft emotional identification with the angry leftist mob, without quite endorsing anyone’s actions, or any policy in particular, struck me as politically adroit — the hallmark of an aspiring Democrat politician in the age of Trump.

But if Lynch is running for president in 2020 or senator from New York in 2018 (primarying Kirsten Gillenbrand in the safe Democratic seat?), she’s likely to have company: meet the latest leftist secular saint in Preet Bharara, former U.S. attorney from New York — who tweeted his way to fame this week by boasting that he was fired after refusing to resign.

Preet Bharara, “Sheriff” of Wall Street

How breathlessly CNN described the man: “Preet Bharara has reached that lofty pantheon of fame where it seems everyone knows him by just his first name.” Well, everyone whom CNN knows, anyway.

Our friend Preet, is a “rock star prosecutor” and “scourge of Wall Street corruption, gangs, terrorists and cyber criminals” and “the most high profile U.S. Attorney in the nation” and “the Sheriff of Wall Street” with “an innovative personality that shook up the sometimes stuffy world of the law,” as well as a “crusading prosecutor.”

If Preet were really the Sheriff of Wall Street, why did almost nobody responsible for the financial crisis go to jail?

The Obama administration adroitly waited until the 2012 election to showily announce it was going after Wall Street — after the five year criminal statute of limitation had passed. This was perhaps out of a doctrine, elucidated in 1999 by none other than the future Attorney General Eric Holder.

Prosecuting bankers who have committed crimes is hard. Collecting settlements you can wave before voters or CNN reporters as the stuff of legend is pretty easy, as William D. Cohan points out:

Since 2009, 49 financial institutions have paid various government entities and private plaintiffs nearly $190 billion in fines and settlements, according to an analysis by the investment bank Keefe, Bruyette & Woods. That may seem like a big number, but the money has come from shareholders, not individual bankers.

How big a punishment did the Sheriff of Wall Street and his Justice department amici really deal out? Let’s put it this way: “In early 2014, just weeks after Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, settled out of court with the Justice Department, the bank’s board of directors gave him a 74 percent raise, bringing his salary to $20 million.”

Meanwhile, if Preet was a sheriff, his biggest legacy is prosecuting so-called “insider trading” deals during the recession — threatening and jailing investors for uncertain, vague regulatory crimes, which shut down a key component of economic growth: knowledgeable investing.

The entire government response to the financial crisis in terms of wrongdoing has been episodic, vague and irrational, favoring hedge fund black box algorithms over the depth knowledge that directs money to where it can grow. This is what George Gilder has called the “outsider trading scandal,” part of The Scandal of Money.

Christian conservatives are very lucky that the Democratic party has linked its deep dedication to identity politics and social radicalism (including LGBT, race and gender) to a failed economic agenda. That linkage has given the rule of law a second shot, if only the Republican party had the guts to pass legislation to protect the livelihoods of its voters from Democratic misrule.

Meanwhile, look to New York once again for the future of the Democratic party, in which social justice warriors of all colors square off in defense of their core values, without a real agenda for progress.

The Loretta Lynch Video

I deliberately linked to the Snopes.com version of the Loretta Lynch video because many conservative websites’ versions claimed Lynch actually called for bloodletting. Not really. But hers was still astonishingly inflammatory rhetoric for a former attorney general, rife with claims of “our rights being assailed, being trampled on, even being rolled back,” and implied praise for protesters’ actions:

It has been people — individuals — who have banded together. Ordinary people, who simply saw what needed to be done and came together and supported those ideals, who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve bled. Yes, some of them have died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before, we can do this again.

The fantasy that conservatives, or most Trump supporters, are violent racists fuels this kind of rhetoric. It feeds the gathering forces of hatred in which people with cultural and economic privilege are defining their opposition as Nazis — against whom violence is understandable if not quite right, as I wrote before. David Duke has never been more powerful. It is the power granted earlier to Fred Phelps, the late heretical cult leader (Westboro Baptist) whose message that “God hates f**s” was irresistibly useful to the mainstream media which wanted to tar all opposition with that broad, ugly brush.

On March 6, without any word from Lynch on what she actually meant, Snopes went to bat with the claim that she praised only black civil rights heroes who suffered in the past, not rioters who committed violence in Ferguson or Berkeley or Middlebury.

On March 6, Snopes.com had not received any response from Loretta Lynch. On March 14, I checked in again to make sure: still no response. Loretta Lynch has no desire to correct or clarify the record apparently.

Is it because such a clarification would not please the hard Left’s newfound praise for violence against anyone they dub a white nationalist? (For more from the author of “Loretta Lynch and Preet Bharara: The Left’s New Plaster Saints” please click HERE)

We Should Never Stop Applauding Our Nation’s Military Families

Less than a month after U.S. Navy Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Ryan Owens made the ultimate sacrifice, a joint session of U.S. Congress stood to applaud his wife.

What millions saw on Feb. 28 – the raw, heartbreaking grief on Gold Star widow Carryn Owens’ face as Republicans, Democrats, military leaders, judges and dignitaries clapped for more than two minutes – is already part of American history.

“For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” President Trump said while introducing Chief Owens and his wife to the nation. “Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country and for our freedom – we will never forget him.”

As our collective memory shortens in the social media age, however, how many of us will ultimately remember the story of Carryn and Ryan Owens? After all, as Gold Star wife Nikki Altmann told me after her husband was killed in Afghanistan, “six months from now, people won’t be calling to see how I’m doing.”

In addition to embracing Gold Star wives like Nikki and Carryn, we should be praying for the entire military community. The risks our country’s brave men and women in uniform face in global hotspots like Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and the Korean peninsula are very real.

Supporting our troops and sharing the stories of our country’s fallen warriors and their families is as non-political as the Fourth of July. Yet as is often the case in this hyper-partisan era, a misguided few chose to besmirch the importance of honoring a Gold Star widow’s tenacity and her husband’s distinguished service.

“Actually, it was the worst moment (of the speech), and that’s saying a lot for Donald Trump,” liberal comedian Bill Maher said on the March 3 episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. The rest of his ill-advised rant is too vulgar to quote on The Stream.

Slate writer Katy Waldman started the final paragraph of this piece with a truly head-scratching sentence: “But what, exactly, did Trump hope to accomplish by illuminating Carryn Owens’ sorrow?”

How about telling the story of a heroic Navy SEAL and his courageous wife, Ms. Waldman?

Every day, I read heartfelt Facebook posts from Gold Star family members with whom I’ve been privileged to become acquainted. In recent weeks, one widow asked for prayers while her young son struggles with only being able to see his departed dad through videos and pictures. Another post was from a mother who carried pride and a heavy heart as a local park was named in honor of her fallen son.

Gold Star family members are real people dealing with extraordinary challenges. After spending the last eight years speaking with hundreds of these remarkable Americans, I can say with certainty that each grieves and copes differently. All are nevertheless joined by the memories of their heroes, who I hope – spurred by two stirring minutes of applause for Carryn and Ryan Owens – will become ours.

“All that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters,” legendary Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot wrote in “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

Carryn Owens didn’t ask to become the face or the name of America’s Gold Star community. If given the chance, she would undoubtedly trade those unforgettable two minutes of applause for two more minutes with her husband, who was only 36 years old when he was killed in Yemen.

As Carryn mourns Ryan, let us mourn with her. As a little boy cries out for his dad, let us weep with him. As Nikki Altmann worries that we won’t remember, let us ease her mind by remembering. As a mother celebrates her son’s life, let us also rejoice. As military families pray for the safety of their loved ones, let us pray, too.

Now is our moment to unite in applause of the selfless men and women who step forward every single day to protect us. I, for one, won’t ever stop clapping. (For more from the author of “We Should Never Stop Applauding Our Nation’s Military Families” please click HERE)

‘No Right to Abortion’: Alabama Legislature Looks to Amend State Constitution

There’s no sign of U.S. abortion law changing soon, but Alabama wants to be ready if it ever does.

A proposal in the Republican-controlled Legislature would declare Alabama a “right to life” state by amending the state constitution. The House of Representatives will vote on the bill Thursday, and if it passes the Legislature and is signed by the Republican governor, the constitutional amendment would go before voters in 2018.

There is optimism among conservatives that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 law establishing a women’s right to an abortion, could be overturned now that President Donald Trump is in power. (Read more from “‘No Right to Abortion’: Alabama Legislature Looks to Amend State Constitution” HERE)

U.S. Army Creates World’s First 3D Printed Grenade Launcher

The last thing you would expect is for the US military to create a 3D printed gun. After all, you’d think that an organization as large and well funded as our military wouldn’t need plastic guns. 3D printers are for people who don’t have massive factories at their disposal, but the Army has the military-industrial complex.

Nonetheless, the US Army recently revealed that they have created a 3D printed grenade launcher, which they have appropriately dubbed RAMBO or Rapid Additively Manufactured Ballistics Ordnance. It was designed by the Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command and the U.S. Army Manufacturing Technology Program.

RAMBO contains only 50 parts, and with the exception of a few springs and fasteners, is all 3D printed. However, not all of these pieces are plastic. The barrel and receiver are aluminum, and were printed by a metal sintering machine. The Army is also working on printing the 40mm ammunition that goes with the weapon. Early tests show that the weapon functions, and now the Army is testing its reliability under long-term use.

So why does the army want to build 3D printed weapons in the first place? They don’t explicitly say, but RAMBO and its ammo was designed and produced in 6 months, which is far shorter than what it would take to create a new weapon from scratch using traditional channels in the arms industry.

The Army probably doesn’t intend to actually deploy this prototype weapon. One could only guess, but it’s more likely that they are prototyping the concept of designing their own weapons. The research and development phase of any weapon is notoriously long and expensive, so by doing that part themselves they could skirt around the arms industry and save a ton of money.

The only question is, will the military-industrial complex abide this money saving measure? (For more from the author of “U.S. Army Creates World’s First 3D Printed Grenade Launcher” please click HERE)

ACLU Attempts to Prohibit Prayer at Kenai Assembly, Citizens Fight Back

For more than 30 years, Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meetings have opened with an invocation prayer. This coming Tuesday, that could continue indefinitely if Alaskans and others send an email to the Borough Assembly and/or call in or show up at the 6pm meeting held at the Borough building.

The ACLU wants it to stop the invocation prayer and has sued the Kenai Peninsula Borough over its current policy. With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, the Borough has constructed a policy that has been proven and tested by the federal courts. The policy, in part, currently states,

“All religious associations with an established presence in the Kenai Peninsula Borough that regularly meet for the primary purpose of sharing a religious perspective, or chaplains who may serve one of more of the fire departments, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, or other similar organizations in the borough, are eligible to provide invocations to the assembly, and the authorized leader of any such association or chaplain can make an online submission to provide an invocation to the borough clerk.”

Clearly, the people of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, in a recent poll in the Peninsula Clarion, stated they wish for the invocations to continue. In all of the past votes, the Borough Assembly has also voted to keep the invocation even with the threat of a lawsuit. This lawsuit now brought before the state court in Alaska has not deterred the majority of the Assembly, the faith community, or the citizens of the Kenai Peninsula. They continue to honor what happens every day in our federal government, our state government, and many other agencies and public meetings throughout Alaska. To date, demonstrated support through emails is almost equal to keep or kill the invocation.

As Alaskans and others, you can support the invocation policy in three ways:

1. Personally testify at the meeting or call into the meeting to state your support. Call in information can be found on the Borough website depending on your location.

2. Send a simple email sent to the Assembly members stating your support at https://www.kpb.us/assembly-clerk/clerks-office/clerks-forms/email-assembly-members.

3. Pray for God’s best for our citizens and borough officials through this Tuesday’s meeting.

We can continue to see God brought into the public square by your support. This has been a part of American public meetings since the founding of our country. Read these words of Benjamin Franklin as he spoke to President George Washington:

“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages.

I therefore beg leave to move – that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.”

Make a difference in protecting our religious freedom in Alaska by supporting invocation prayers in the Kenai Peninsula today with your response. It is not just for our Borough, but for all of Alaskans.

94 Years in Prison for Reporting Federal Abuse? More Fall Out From Standoff in Burns, Oregon

A flurry of dramatic property and civil rights-related trials is taking place across the western U.S. in federal courts, in which defendants, including independent media representatives, are charged with up to 17 crimes each, from trespass to terrorism. . .

The initial trial for seven of the Oregon protestors took place in the fall of 2016, and ended with a surprising “not guilty” verdict for all defendants – including ringleaders Ryan and Ammon Bundy. At the time, the Obama administration admitted that federal officials were “rattled by the Oregon verdict.” Federal prosecutors have since added new charges for some defendants, which will not be eligible for jury trials. . .

Among the 32 defendants are a disturbing number of writers, bloggers and video teams. And although journalism certainly isn’t cited as a crime, many charges appear to hinge on the motivation, speech and political beliefs of the “journalist” defendants. [They face up to 94 years in prison under the 1996 Anti-terrorism Act] Dozens who gathered at either place were informed they were considered “unindicted co-conspirators.”

Comparing media members who face charges with those who are not, the major difference appears to hinge on expressions of support for the “occupation’s” organizers or their causes . . .

Possibly a quarter of the protestors at Burns considered themselves de facto broadcasters at some point of the occupation. Prosecution challenged some defendants who claimed media status, asking for press credentials or credits. Yet alternative and social media are almost impossible to categorize this way. This arguably dilutes the immunity the press enjoys under the First Amendment, but is part of a larger issue now playing out as technology, the Internet and especially social media revolutionize the traditional meaning of “news” and “journalist.” (Read more from “94 Years in Prison for Reporting Federal Abuse? Assange: Clinton Conspiring With Deep State to Oust Trump for a ‘Pence Takeover’

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange suggested on Twitter Tuesday Hillary Clinton and certain unnamed members of the U.S. Intelligence Community are plotting a takeover by Vice President Mike Pence.

“Clinton stated privately this month that she is quietly pushing for a Pence takeover,” Assange tweeted. “She stated that Pence is predictable hence defeatable.”

“Two IC officials close to Pence stated privately this month that they are planning on a Pence takeover,” he added in another tweet. “Did not state if Pence agrees.”

Further, he continued, “By handing unilateral power to the CIA over its drone strikes at this time White House signals that bullying, disloyalty & incompetence pays.”

In response to shocked reactions to the tweets, Pence lambasted Assange’s suggestion of a takeover as “absurd” and “frankly offensive” in an interview with radio host Laura Ingraham, asserting,

I would find all of that dialogue to be absurd and frankly offensive. It is the greatest honor of my life to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with the 45th President of the United States. To see his leadership every day, to see the compassion that he has for the American people every day. I would dismiss that out of hand and tell you that I’m just, I’m so excited about the progress that we’ve been made strengthening this country, protecting this country, reviving this country’s economy and all credit goes to President Donald Trump.

Although Assange did not make immediately apparent the reason for the tweets or sources for the information, The Daily Caller suggested, “Assange’s claims appear to come in response to reports that President Trump authorized the CIA to perform drone strikes on terrorists Monday evening.”

To wit, The Wall Street Journal reported last night,

“President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency secret new authority to conduct drone strikes against suspected terrorists, U.S. officials said, changing the Obama administration’s policy of limiting the spy agency’s paramilitary role and reopening a turf war between the agency and the Pentagon.

The new authority, which hadn’t been previously disclosed, represents a significant departure from a cooperative approach that had become standard practice by the end of former President Barack Obama’s tenure: The CIA used drones and other intelligence resources to locate suspected terrorists and then the military conducted the actual strike. The U.S. drone strike that killed Taliban leader Mullah Mansour in May 2016 in Pakistan was the best example of that hybrid approach, U.S. officials said.

For some time, rumors claimed the aptly-named Deep State has been scheming to oust Trump should he not align sufficiently with the renewed Red Scare so vociferously championed by former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Allowing what, in essence, constitutes the broad gift of power and militancy back to an agency whose wings were clipped by the previous administration, could present those Deep State players with additional urgency if there indeed exists a plot to install Pence.

Zero Hedge handily summarized what this coup brewing behind Washington D.C.’s curtains could entail for the rest of us:

No matter what one makes of Trump – or his administration and the policies that have been initiated thus far – the fact remains that Trump won the U.S. election. The people working behind the scenes to oust him are not subject to democratic controls, nor are they working in the best interests of the American public. We are left to ask ourselves exactly how renewing relations with Russia – a nuclear power – could possibly endanger American lives.

Either way, we are more or less left with two paths ahead of us. The first path involves Trump giving in and adopting an anti-Russian agenda, as is already apparent in his decision to send more ground troops to Syria alongside Saudi troops, who will intentionally oppose the Syrian regime (a close ally of Russia). The second involves the possibility of another direct coup within the Trump administration, this time one that may ultimately force Trump out of the White House so he can be replaced by Mike Pence, a war hawk who will be more than happy to do the job Hillary Clinton wanted to do.

It was less than one month ago, on February 15, that Assange hinted of a seeming surreptitious Battle Royale, tweeting, “Amazing battle for dominance is playing out between the elected US govt & the IC who consider themselves to be the ‘permanent government’.”

As The Free Thought Project reported in February,

John Schindler, a former professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, who spent nearly a decade with the super-secret National Security Agency as an intelligence analyst and counterintelligence officer — and who still maintains deep connections to the intelligence community — readily admitted that senior elements of the intelligence community (IC) are engaging in treason against Trump.

Schneider tweeted, “Now we go nuclear. IC war going to new levels. Just got an EM fm senior IC friend, it began: ‘He will die in jail.’”

Whether or not the ultimate war for control of the flailing American empire is actually taking place, indications the political establishment is on the verge of all-out rebellion have been apparent for some time.

Perhaps Julian Assange knows something the rest of us don’t — or, at least, not yet.

Notably, only a minute percentage of Vault 7 documents — WikiLeaks cache of files on the CIA believed to be far more sizable and significant than the Edward Snowden revelations on the NSA — have been published thus far.
