No, the Electoral College Is Not a ‘National Security Threat’

Following Hillary Clinton’s electoral defeat and Donald Trump’s ascension to the White House, numerous progressives came out of the woodwork to call for the end of the Electoral College in favor of a national popular vote.

While most of the arguments against our over two-century-old system revolve around it not being purely democratic and being weighted toward smaller states, a recent commentary in Politico has stretched that attack to an absurd limit.

Matthew Olsen, a member of the National Security Agency under President Barack Obama, and Benjamin Haas, a West Point graduate and current student at Stanford University, argued that the Electoral College is antiquated and even dangerous because hostile foreign powers can micro-target populations in certain states to tip the election.

Further, the writers argue that the Founders couldn’t possibly have imagined how new technology, like Facebook, could perpetuate false ideas and that foreign powers would disseminate lies.

This leads them to suggest moving to a national popular vote, which they suggest is somehow a safer way to elect presidents.

Their arguments demonstrate both an amazing amount of hubris in assuming they, our nouveau elite, know better than the Founders, and stunning ignorance in thinking the creators of the Constitution had no experience with “fake news.”

There is a lot to untangle from what seems to be a rather absurd and roundabout excuse for Clinton’s defeat, but it’s worth debunking.

Why We Have an Electoral College

The Electoral College was not just a quirky idea the Framers cobbled together without serious consideration for how it would be used by future generations.

The office of the presidency and the method by which our leaders would be selected are perhaps the most explicit aspects of the Constitution, and they were the products of ferocious debate.

The Founders wanted to create a system by which the country’s only true national leader could be chosen by a process that would contain vital elements of both federalism—or state power—and democracy.

Also, given their vast experience of dealing with foreign powers that wanted to see America fail, and local manipulators who wanted to tip elections, the Framers of the Constitution created a carefully calibrated process that would help create a stable, legitimate system to serve a free people.

The product was a brilliant process, born of design and compromise, that has created over two centuries of stable and virtually uncontested elections.

This accomplishment often goes unacknowledged. But as governments rose and fell through the centuries, ours has steamed along. We have, in part, the Electoral College to thank for this political miracle.

Foreign Intrigues

As the Politico writers noted, Alexander Hamilton defended the Electoral College in Federalist No. 68.

Hamilton believed the indirect method of “electors” choosing a president after the states had voted in their separate capacities would protect America from foreign intrigues that would seek to enable “Manchurian” candidates to become president.

The Politico writers dismiss this reasoning, saying:

Hamilton and his colleagues never could have envisioned a year like 2016, when an enemy state—Russia—was able to manipulate America’s election process with stunning effectiveness.

Actually, they could.

The late 18th and early 19th centuries were rife with foreign powers meddling in American elections. It was in some ways much easier for the superpowers of Europe to use propaganda in fighting proxy wars to tip the scales of our elections one way or another.

For example, Citizen Edmond Genet, a French diplomat to the United States, tried to tip the American population toward supporting his country in its wars against Great Britain in the 1790s.

He and other French radicals engaged in a massive campaign to turn Americans against President George Washington’s administration to get a pro-French candidate elected. This more or less failed, and Washington served two terms without serious challenge.

The fact is, there is simply no way of entirely avoiding outside influence and the flow of information in a free country.

It is something America has perpetually dealt with, and mostly overcome.

Fake News, Nothing New

The argument that “fake news” is simply a modern phenomenon that the Founders couldn’t have anticipated is absurd.

That fraudulent stories and ideas could be rapidly perpetuated and could change people’s minds was widely understood and acknowledged by the men who created our form of government.

At the Constitutional Convention, curmudgeonly Founder Elbridge Gerry said the following of fake news and democracy:

The people do not want [lack] virtue, but are the dupes of pretended patriots. In Massachusetts it had been fully confirmed by experience, that they are daily misled into the most baneful measures and opinions, by the false reports circulated by designing men, and which no one on the spot can refute.

Campaigns then and thereafter were filled with false reports, unsubstantiated rumors, absurd accusations, and a whole lot of lies.

What was the Founders’ solution to this problem? Create a system that fostered a culture of free speech and debate while mitigating the impact of pure democracy.

The answer is not a national popular vote or government censors determining what is real news and what is fake. It’s in supporting the First Amendment and the wisely crafted electoral system that the Founders gifted us with.

Ultimately, fake news, micro-targeting, and “voter suppression” can hardly be blamed for Clinton’s electoral defeat when she couldn’t be bothered to campaign in one of the states that ultimately swung the election.

And simply having the larger, national pool of voters can’t prevent foreign governments from trying to sway votes and tip elections.

The fact that Trump turned solid blue states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania red is a sign that the Electoral College works the way it was intended. It vindicates the idea that regional interests are diverse and that a national candidate should appeal to small and mid-size states, not just the most populous ones.

While the Politico writers bemoan foreign influence in American elections—a worthy concern—pointing to the Electoral College as the problem is barking up the wrong tree.

And if they are so worried about what they called vote “hacking,” perhaps they should support the voter fraud commission that could help weed out illegal votes and ensure election integrity in the states instead of laying waste to our time-tested electoral process.

Regardless, the Electoral College is not a danger to the United States. It is instead a critical element of preserving our national sovereignty and the federalism that strengthens it. (For more from the author of “No, the Electoral College Is Not a ‘National Security Threat'” please click HERE)

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis Weighs Using ‘Kinetic Weapon’ on North Korea

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis hinted at using a kinetic weapon on Tuesday while discussing tensions with North Korea when he made a Freudian slip.

Mattis was asked whether there was “any military option the US can take with North Korea that would not put Seoul at grave risk,” Mattis responded, “Yes, there are, but I will not go into details.”

Later during the press conference, another reporter questioned Mattis and caught him off-guard:

“Just to clarify, you said that there were possible military options that would not create a grave risk to Seoul,” a reporter asked. “Are we talking kinetic options as well?”

“Yes, I don’t want to go into that,” Mattis responded.

Previously, Mattis stated that a war with North Korea would “involve the massive shelling of an ally’s capital, (South Korea) which is one of the most densely packed cities on earth.”

U.S. President Donald Trump in a speech to the United Nations on Tuesday threatened to “totally destroy North Korea” if Pyongyang didn’t quit its nuclear testing and threats.

This also comes after the U.S. and South Korea wrapped up its annual military drill harassing of North Korea, reminding the dictatorship of its military presence at its southern border.

In 2015, the U.S. Air Force confirmed that military contractor Boeing has an electromagnetic pulse weapon, which is capable of targeting and destroying electrical systems without the collateral damage of killing people. It’s essentially an EMP that takes out the power grid of a given area.

The project is known as the “CHAMP,” or Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project, and it already has been operational since 2015, according to Air Force Research Laboratory commander Major General Tom Masiello.

In January, Trump’s Air Force chief of staff revealed to USA TODAY that the U.S. President could use “space weapons against ISIS.”

“If we want to be more agile than the reality is we are going to have to push decision authority down to some lower levels in certain areas the big question that we’ve got to wrestle with … is the authorities to operate in cyber and space,” General David Goldfein, the Air Force chief of staff, told USA TODAY.

However, the U.S. also has other kinetic weapons in its arsenal that would allow Trump to “totally destroy North Korea” — one of weapons system is the “Rods from God.”

What is the Rods from God? The “Rods from God” is a part of the directed energy weapon family; it’s a kinetic energy weapon.

The rods are directed munitions, the higher you are (the greater your distance from the planet), the greater the kinetic energy you have.

In 2004, published in Popular Science, Eric Adams writes:

A pair of satellites orbiting several hundred miles above the Earth would serve as a weapons system. One functions as the targeting and communications platform while the other carries numerous tungsten rods–up to 20 feet in length and a foot in diameter–that it can drop on targets with less than 15 minutes’ notice. When instructed from the ground, the targeting satellite commands its partner to drop one of its darts. The guided rods enter the atmosphere, protected by a thermal coating, traveling at 36,000 feet per second–comparable to the speed of a meteor. The result: complete devastation of the target, even if it’s buried deep underground. The two-platform configuration permits the weapon to be “reloaded” by just launching a new set of rods, rather than replacing the entire system.

The concept of developing kinetic energy weapons has been around since the 1950s when the RAND Corporation proposed placing rods on tips of ICBMs, although the Pentagon won’t say how far along the research is, or even confirm that any efforts exist, citing those details as classified. The “U.S. Air Force Transformation Flight Plan,” published by the Air Force in November 2003, references “hypervelocity rod bundles” in its outline of future space-based weapons; and, in 2002, another report from RAND, “Space Weapons, Earth Wars,” talks about the effectiveness of such a weapon.

A space weapons agreement was proposed by Rep Dennis Kucinich called the “Space Preservation Treaty” in 2005 which states that countries won’t seek to weaponize space. However, that bill never made it past the introduction stage. Another House of Representatives bill known as the H.R.2977 “Space Preservation Act” was proposed in 2001 to ban the use of “exotic weapons” listing the following:

(B) Such terms include exotic weapons systems such as —  (i) electronic, psychotronic, or information weapons; (ii) chemtrails; (iii) high altitude ultra low frequency weapons systems; (iv) plasma, electromagnetic, sonic, or ultrasonic weapons; (v) laser weapons systems; (vi) strategic, theater, tactical, or extraterrestrial weapons; and (vii) chemical, biological, environmental, climate, or tectonic weapons.

Obama violated this agreement under the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act before leaving office, and no one noticed that the legislation he signed is essentially the Star Wars Defense Initiative II that his predecessor, Ronald Reagan, signed calling for a space-based missile system. ‘JUSTICE-PRICING’: Filmmaker Charges White Males $5 More for Tickets

Super-woke Canadian filmmaker Shiraz Higgins has implemented his own so-called “justice-pricing” policy, where he charges white males an extra $5 to view his movie.

The 27-year-old filmmaker (yes, he’s a millennial, can you believe it?) is charging white males $15 a ticket and all others $10, apparently as a way to level-out all that white male privilege.

Higgins told The Canadian Press that the “justice-pricing” is “not a publicity stunt” but “based on the purchasing power of individual groups and ‘price discrimination.'”

“This is not a publicity stunt,” he said. Organizers are “pushing forward because we believe it is an important piece of overall conversation that is happening in society right now,” added Higgins. (Read more from “‘JUSTICE-PRICING’: Filmmaker Charges White Males $5 More for Tickets” HERE)

You ‘Really Have to Be Blind’ to Ignore This Obama Scandal

Thursday evening, Conservative Review Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin weighed in on Samantha Power’s role in “unmasking” individuals during the final days of the Obama administration.

“This grave scandal is […] the Obama administration’s abuse of power like we’ve never seen in modern American history,” said Levin.

Fox News reported Wednesday that Power, as U.S. ambassador to the U.N., made more than 260 requests to identify Americans whose names surfaced in foreign intelligence reporting last year. In her role as ambassador, Power had no apparent intelligence-related function, making her unmasking requests highly suspect.

“You really have to be blind if you don’t see the extent to which the prior administration violated our trust, violated our rules, violated the law in using the power of the federal government to wiretap, to conduct other forms of espionage, to abuse the FISA courts, to abuse the warrants that they received to target people they disagreed with, including with the IRS … to target people they disagreed with including with the FBI and the Justice Department,” Levin said.

And what is most appalling is the behavior of the media, Levin said, who are in “full cover-up mode.”

Listen:

“This isn’t a joke,” Levin said. “This is issue number one.” (For more from the author of “You ‘Really Have to Be Blind’ to Ignore This Obama Scandal” please click HERE)

Palestinian Leader Abbas Brings Unapologetic Jihad to the UN

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas received thunderous applause merely making his way to the podium in front of the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday. His reception was business as usual for the U.N., where the Palestinian cause is celebrated and Israel is obsessively demonized as an apartheid state.

Abbas is the personification of the rotten institution that is the United Nations, which has entire agencies and international holidays dedicated to the Palestinian national movement.

On the eve of the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah, Abbas spent most of his speech slamming the Jewish state, making sure to cloak his anti-Semitic fervor as mere “anti-Zionism.” The PA leader decried Israel’s “occupation” of his homeland: the “State of Palestine,” which has never actually existed in history.

“While we call to end the occupation, Israel incites and pretends there’s no Palestinian partner for peace,” Abbas claimed. But as Arutz Sheva reports, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly offered direct talks with the Palestinians, only to continually have his offers rejected.

He also defiantly challenged the Trump administration’s call for the Palestinian government to stop funding terrorism. For decades, the Palestinian Authority has been shelling out hundreds of millions of dollars in stipends and salaries (much of it coming from U.S. foreign aid) to the terrorists and their families. By some estimates, Abbas’ government devotes about 10 percent of its annual budget to the “martyrs fund.”

Instead of making even the smallest of concessions to achieve peace, Abbas used his global stage to “salute” jihadists who have been convicted of murdering innocent men, women, and children.

“I salute our glorious martyrs and courageous prisoners in Israeli jails, and I tell them all that freedom is coming and that the occupation shall come to an end,” Abbas said before the General Assembly.

After mocking America’s efforts to rein in his terrorist payment program, Abbas borrowed President Trump’s campaign rhetoric — perhaps in an effort to cozy up to him. The PA chairman said “draining the swamp of colonial occupation of our land” is imperative to combat terrorism.

After his defiant acts against the U.S. and Israel, President Trump shockingly lauded Abbas as someone “working very hard” for peace.

“It’s a great honor to have President Abbas from the Palestinian Authority with us and his representatives, who have been working very hard with everybody involved toward peace,” Trump stated after his one-on-one meeting with Abbas.

But as the administration will soon find out, Abbas is not, and will never be, the peacemaker that President Trump is looking for. Abbas and his Fatah party have promoted, armed, and financed Islamic extremists since the birth of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

If America wants Israel to find a partner for peace, the terrorist-promoting Mahmoud Abbas is not that man. (For more from the author of “Palestinian Leader Abbas Brings Unapologetic Jihad to the UN” please click HERE)

North Korea Could Test Hydrogen Bomb in Pacific, Top Diplomat Says

North Korea’s foreign minister has said the Communist nation may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean after dictator Kim Jong Un vowed he would take the “highest-level” action against the United States, South Korean media reported Thursday.

The Yonhap news agency reported on comments made to reporters by Ri Yong Ho on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“We have no idea about what actions could be taken as it will be ordered by leader Kim Jong Un,” Ri was quoted as saying by Yonhap.

Such a test would be considered a major provocation by the U.S., South Korea and Japan. Ri was scheduled to address the U.N. General Assembly on Saturday, a day later than previously scheduled. (Read more from “North Korea Could Test Hydrogen Bomb in Pacific, Top Diplomat Says” HERE)

Murderer Sues Kansas Prison for ‘Imposing Christian Beliefs’

A female convicted murderer in Kansas filed a lawsuit this week, alleging that prison officials have been “imposing Christian beliefs” on her and other inmates.

The plaintiff, Shari Webber-Dunn, is serving her sentence in the state’s Topeka Correctional Facility. She says officials there have created a “coercive atmosphere where inmates are pressured to spend their time in a highly religious atmosphere and to participate in religious activities and prayers, thus violating the establishment clause,” the Wichita Eagle reported.

The establishment clause of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”

Webber-Dunn said the prison’s “coercive atmosphere” includes Christian-themed radio and television broadcasts, an 8-foot cross and proselytizing messages, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

She alleges religious bias on the part of the Kansas Department of Corrections and the correctional facility’s staff.

Muslim Doctor Accused of Mutilating ‘Countless’ Little Girls Freed

After five months in jail, Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, the Detroit-area Muslim doctor accused of mutilating the genitalia of “countless” young girls, was released on a $4.5 million unsecured property bond Tuesday.

“I was there in the courtroom. I saw it all,” said Elizabeth Yore, an international child-welfare advocate and leader of the #EndFGMToday initiative.

Yore said Dr. Nagarwala, 44, appeared Tuesday before Judge Bernard Friedman in an orange jumpsuit, her head covered by a hijab or Muslim headscarf. She remained silent during the entire pretrial detention hearing.

By the end, the doctor flashed a brief smile when she was told by the judge she would be released from jail pending her trial, which will likely occur in 2018. She then wept, which her attorney called “tears of joy.”

Until Tuesday, Nagarwala had been the only one of eight defendants in the nation’s first FGM case being held without bond. (Read more from “Muslim Doctor Accused of Mutilating ‘Countless’ Little Girls Freed” HERE)

Judge: OK to Starve Disabled Patients Without Court Order

A judge has ruled that Court permission will not be needed to remove food and fluids from severely brain damaged patients, a move which has caused concern among opponents of euthanasia.

Unlike other forms of medical care, the decision to withdraw food and fluids from patients in a “permanent vegetative state” (the term “unresponsive wakefulness syndrome” is now generally preferred) has until now been referred to the Court of Protection, even if doctors and relatives are in agreement.

Now, the decision by Mr Justice Jackson means those cases will no longer have to come to court. He made his ruling in a case concerning a 50-year-old woman who suffered from a degenerative illness for 14 years. The patient, known in court as M, had Huntington’s disease and was bed-ridden in hospital and fed by a tube. The Court heard that she had shown no sign of awareness for 18 months.

Mr Justice Jackson agreed with her family and doctors that withdrawing nutrition from her would be in her best interests. The tube was removed and she died in August. Mr Justice Jackson said in his view the case should not have come to court. (Read more from “Judge: OK to Starve Disabled Patients Without Court Order” HERE)

Former Senator Exposes ‘Goal’ of Majority in Washington

Sixteen U.S. senators have now been serving in the Senate at least 20 years. Seven of them have been serving for at least 30 years, while two, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., have logged at least 40 years in the upper chamber.

Meanwhile, over in the House of Representatives, 71 current congressmen have served at least 20 years. Sixteen of them, including top Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, have held their seats for at least 30 years. Two members have spent more than 40 years in the lower chamber, and one, Democrat John Conyers of Michigan, has logged 52 years in the House. This is in the chamber where members must stand for re-election every two years.

Former Sen. Tom Coburn, who served six years in the House and 10 more in the Senate before retiring of his own accord, would like to abolish the “career politician” by instituting term limits.

“Our founders never intended for people to serve lengthy, lengthy terms in office,” Coburn said during a recent appearance on the nationally syndicated radio show “Caravan to Midnight.” “As a matter of fact, the only person at the Constitutional Convention who was against term limits was Alexander Hamilton. But they didn’t think they needed it; they called it rotation in office. And, of course, they were right until Congress fixed itself to where it’s the decider of everything, along with the Supreme Court and executive branch, and individuals in this country no longer have the power.

“And so, instead of Washington telling us what to do, what I would like to see is the American people start telling Washington what to do.” (Read more from “Former Senator Exposes ‘Goal’ of Majority in Washington” HERE)
