Major Nation to Drop Ban on Organ Harvesting

The government of Japan is revising guidelines on the creation of chimeric human-animal embryos to permit organ harvesting and other experiments.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is expected to drop a current ban on the procedures, which involve creating embryos including both human and animal cells and injecting them into the uteruses of pigs and other lab animals.

Currently, Japan permits only the injection of cells, such as human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), into fertilized animal eggs. A panel of experts approved the transplantation of the resulting embryos into the uteruses of animals and the resulting offspring. Animals such as pigs are being considered for the procedure because the sizes of their organs are close to those of humans.

Creating human organs in animals, they say, could help address the shortage of organs for transplants. Also, it is hoped that creating animals that can develop human diseases could aid research into the development of new medical treatments for humans.

The panel also approved research to produce human brain cells, eggs and sperm, but it maintained a ban on the creation of animals with high cognitive abilities similar to humans. (Read more from “Major Nation to Drop Ban on Organ Harvesting” HERE)

Play Canceled Due to White Student Getting Lead Role

A New York high school has canceled a production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” after a student activist group complained about a white student being cast in a lead role . . .

Students United’s letter conceded that the student cast as Esmeralda “is a stellar actor, singer, and dancer” and that any production would be “lucky to have her.”

However, it added: “Our concern is not with her, but with the fact that in terms of demographics, she is the wrong choice for this role.”

The group’s demands, listed on its Facebook page, included a cessation of play rehearsals, a stoppage of hiring (production) people who have not “changed their actions” following complaints from “parents of color” and “social justice activists,” and an end to the “racist and openly stated policy of ‘color blind’ casting.”

According to the Ithaca Journal, the activists got their first wish, helped by “a flood of letters from members of the community.” (Read more from “Play Canceled Due to White Student Getting Lead Role” HERE)

State Now Assumes All Homeschoolers Are Child Abusers, Reveals Plans for Involuntary Home Visits

Lawmakers in the state of California are now pushing for families who homeschool their children to be subject to involuntary home visits from state employees—treating those parents with the same oversight and involvement that they would give parents who have abused their children.

The new regulations could consist of forced meetings with child protective services and other government agencies, which would leave the burden on the parents to prove to the government that they are fit to be parents who homeschool their children, according to the state’s guidelines.

As the Washington Examiner reported, if this increase in government oversight becomes law, it would “reduce the valid legal option of homeschooling from a fundamental parental right, to direct the education and school choice for children, to compelled consent to government intrusion upon the sanctity and privacy of the home and school choice.”

The push for increased government involvement is being justified by the case of David and Louise Turpin, a California couple facing 12 counts of torture after police learned that their 13 children were severely malnourished, forced to stay chained to their beds, and living in horrific conditions, among other forms of torture that have been ongoing for several years.

Instead of focusing on the tragic nature of the case, some Californians have insisted that the Turpin parents were only allowed to get away with such inhumane actions because they were registered homeschoolers—and they are also arguing that the Turpin family is not the only “homeschooled” family whose children are being tortured.

Instead of considering the fact that the majority of parents who choose to homeschool their children do so because they have no faith in the public school system, the editorial board of the Sacramento Bee argued that in the same way parents choose not to vaccinate their children, the homeschooling movement “grew as an offshoot of counterculture, religious and libertarian interests.”

Since last weekend’s arrest of David and Louise Turpin on suspicion of torture and child endangerment, Californians have wondered how such a thing could have gone for years undetected. The answer is that the couple exploited California’s lax home schooling laws to keep the authorities from finding out what they were doing to their kids. California law requires children aged 6 to 18 to attend a full-time school, either public or private. But there’s a loophole for parents who want sole control over their children’s education: Merely by filing an affidavit, they can register their homes as private schools.

However, an editorial from the Washington Examiner claimed that forcing parents who homeschool their children to adhere to the same regulations as parents who have been convicted of child abuse is “absurdly unconstitutional.”

When reviewing data from some of the most revered psychological institutions in the country, the Examiner argued none of the sources listed “homeschooling as a risk factor for child abuse and neglect. In other words, there is no evidence or data to even suggest that homeschooled children are being harmed or at risk of harm at a rate higher than children in other non-homeschooled and private schooling communities.”

These kinds of alarming ‘solutions’ to an unfounded problem rises to the level of a government search of the family’s home and interviews of children, under the pretext that homeschool choice infers that parents are more likely to be child abusers. It’s a similar illogical path as inferring that because a person chooses to be an independent contractor as a legitimate employment option, they are more likely to evade tax filings, or because a person chooses to exercise any other valid legal option, they are doing so for some other unrelated nefarious purpose, and on that basis alone the government has grounds to treat them as suspect.

In addition to the fact that requiring parents who homeschool their children to be subjected to involuntary home visits would interfere with their constitutional rights against warrantless searches, there is also the fact that this approach has not worked in the past.

Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped from her home in South Lake Tahoe, California, at the age of 11, while she was walking home from the bus stop after school. The man who held her hostage, tortured, raped, and impregnated her with two children was Phillip Garrido, a convicted felon and registered sex offender.

Garrido was still under parole at the time of the kidnapping, and despite that fact that he was visited by parole agents 60 times in the first 10 years, he held Dugard captive for more than 18 years in the backyard of his home in Antioch, California. A report from ABC News noted that “parole agents ignored 335 alerts that his device had lost its signal,” and they failed to check Garrido’s backyard where his device showed that he was spending a large amount of time.

The report also claimed that a few months after Dugard was kidnapped, a neighbor reported “seeing a young blond girl in the backyard who said her name was Jaycee,” and a parole officer reported finding a young girl in Garrido’s house in 2008, which was “a direct violation of his parole.” But in both cases, officers did nothing.

If officials in California failed to see the warning signs in the many visits they had with the convicted felon and registered sex offender who was holding a young girl hostage, why should they be given authority over law-abiding parents who make the legal choice to homeschool their children? U.S. City to Try ‘Universal Basic Income’

The mayor of Stockton, California, is leading an experiment with “universal basic income,” which is set to start by giving low-income residents $500 a month, no questions asked.

Mayor Michael Tubbs calls his city “ground zero” for issues like wage stagnation, rising housing prices and loss of middle-class jobs that affect the nation.

The Central Valley city went bankrupt in 2012, and for decades it has been trying to diversify its agriculture-based economy.

“I feel that as mayor it’s my responsibility to do all I could to begin figuring out what’s the best way to make sure that folks in our community have a real economic floor,” Tubbs said.

Dorian Warren serves as co-chairman the Economic Security Project, which is contributing $1 million to the initiative. He said the goal is to gather data on the economic and social impacts of giving people a basic income. (Read more from “U.S. City to Try ‘Universal Basic Income'” HERE)

NUNES MEMO RELEASED – Man “Desperate” to Defeat Trump Authored Dossier Used to Trick Judge Into Issuing Illegal Wiretap

The House Intelligence Committee just released the “Nunes memo” — and it contains some explosive allegations about the FBI. . .

●The FBI used an unverified, allegedly biased document known as the “Steele dossier” to get a warrant in October 2016 to surveil Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser. The dossier, prepared by former British spy Christopher Steele, alleges the existence of a conspiracy between Donald Trump and the Russian government. The Steele dossier was partially financed by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) — which the memo argues is a major problem.

●Senior FBI and Justice Department officials knew that the Steele dossier was indirectly funded by a lawyer for the Clinton campaign and the DNC, but didn’t disclose this in their application to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court — a court that approves surveillance warrants pertaining to national security and foreign intelligence. They also didn’t disclose it when renewing their applications requesting additional time for surveillance.

●In September 2016, Steele spoke with Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr. Steele told Ohr that he “was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being president.” Ohr’s wife worked for the research firm, Fusion GPS, that hired Steele on behalf of the DNC/Clinton lawyer. Judge Refuses to Charge Father Who Lunged at Former USA Gymnastics Doctor with Contempt of Court

Randall Margraves, who lunged at convicted sexual abuser Larry Nassar on Friday morning and had to be restrained by deputies, will not be punished by the judge with contempt of court, although the judge will have to decide whether he could face criminal assault charges.

Margraves had hurled himself at Nassar after two of Margraves’ daughters, Lauren and Madison, who had been abused by Nassar, read their statements. Judge Janice Cunningham said she would not charge Margraves; she told him she couldn’t understand the pain he felt as he listened to his daughters speak, but she understood wanting to protect his daughters as a father. She added, “It is not acceptable that we combat assault with assault.” (Read more from “Judge Refuses to Charge Father Who Lunged at Former USA Gymnastics Doctor with Contempt of Court” HERE)

U.S. Episcopal Diocese Votes to Stop Using Masculine Pronouns for God

The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution last week to stop using masculine pronouns for God in future updates to its Book of Common Prayer.

The resolution to stop using “gendered language for God” was passed quickly by delegates to the Diocese’s 123rd Convention.

“If revision of the Book of Common Prayer is authorized, to utilize expansive language for God from the rich sources of feminine, masculine, and non-binary imagery for God found in Scripture and tradition and, when possible, to avoid the use of gendered pronouns for God,” the resolution stated.

“Over the centuries our language and our understanding of God has continued to change and adapt,” the drafters of the resolution stated. The drafters said that referring to God using masculine pronouns is to “limit our understanding of God.” . . . .

But Clergy delegate The Rev. Linda R. Calkins from St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Laytonsville, Maryland, challenged the delegates to go further.

Calkins read from Genesis Chapter 17, in which God tells Abraham “I am El Shaddai.” She said that if Episcopalians “are going to be true to what El Shaddai means, it means God with breasts.” (Read more from “U.S. Episcopal Diocese Votes to Stop Using Masculine Pronouns for God” HERE)

‘Person of Interest’ in Las Vegas Massacre Protests He Is Innocent

On Friday, the man who was named as a person of interest in the Las Vegas massacre told reporters that he was completely innocent, reiterating that he had only briefly met Stephen Paddock, the man accused of shooting hundreds and murdering roughly 60 people.

Speaking at a news conference, Douglas Haig, 55, repeated what he said earlier this week, that he had sold Paddock 720 rounds of ammunition in September. He also revealed he has received death threats since his name was accidentally released in police warrants made public by a Nevada judge on Tuesday.

Haig’s Friday conference was prompted by the recent release of search warrant records filed last fall by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stating that Haig “may have conspired with Stephen Paddock to commit murder with a deadly weapon.” Haig had protested that earlier in the week, when he asserted, “I felt that they were hoping that they could find a connection between myself and Paddock, that would go back showing that I supplied him with most of his ammunition, possibly even some firearms. They’re not gonna find it. I talked to the guy three times.”

Haig, an aerospace engineer, said he has sold ammunition as a hobby for roughly two decades. He said he and Paddock met at a gun show in Phoenix, and that Paddock visited Mr. Haig’s home in Mesa, Arizona, to buy the tracer ammunition. Haig said nothing seemed amiss about the transaction, adding, “He pulled up very well dressed, very well groomed, very polite, respectful. He paid me, put it in his car, went on his way — at no time did he seem suspicious.” Haig said Paddock told him he intended to go to the desert to “put on a light show” with his friends. Haig gave Paddock a box that included his name and address, which ultimately led police to Haig. (Read more from “‘Person of Interest’ in Las Vegas Massacre Protests He Is Innocent” HERE)

Meet the Dog Whose Job Is to Guard Priceless Artwork from Bugs

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts just hired a professional bug sniffer. At least they hope he proves to be one.

The new hire is a puppy named Riley who is a 12-week-old Weimaraner.

Riley’s new job is to sniff out bugs, moths and other critters that could damage valuable art in the museum, The New York Times reported.

“It’s really a trial, pilot project. We don’t know if he’s going to be good at it,” Katie Getchell said. “But it seems like a good idea to try.”

With more than 1 million people passing through the museum every year, bugs can find their way in by hitching a ride on jackets and shoes.

Riley will be adding another level of protection against insects that could pose a long-term threat to the artwork.

Currently, the museum’s pest-control defense includes quarantining new artwork prior to its placement in the galleries.

The nostrils of dogs are reportedly better at detecting scents than any technology created thus far. They’ve been trained to sniff out explosives, cadavers, bed bugs, ants and cancer.

Nicki Luongo, a museum employee, trains police dogs in her spare time and got Riley as a family pet. That’s when the museum began to wonder if the dog could be trained to detect insects.

The plan is plausible, according to the owner of Pepedogs, a dog-training company.

“Every insect we’ve been able to work with, we’ve been able to train dogs to accurately and consistently detect them,” Pepe Peruyero said.

Peruyero’s company has trained dogs to discover sea turtle eggs buried in the sane and to find larvae on golf courses before they hatch and destroy the turf.

Getchell said that if Riley is successful, the museum will share what they learn with other museums and organizations, according to The Times.

Museum visitors, however, shouldn’t expect to see the puppy wandering through the exhibits. He will be doing his work behind the scenes and whenever the museum is closed.

Employees don’t want Riley to distract from the museum, so they are toying with the idea of either opening an Instagram account for the local celebrity or have meet-and-greets for his fans, The Times reported.

“The staff are overwhelmed by the excitement to see and meet him,” Getchell said. “We don’t want to deprive the public of that.” (For more from the author of “Meet the Dog Whose Job Is to Guard Priceless Artwork from Bugs” please click HERE)

U.S. Senator’s Passionate Pro-Life Speech Has Already Garnered 4.3 Million Views

An emotional speech made by Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford about protecting the life of the unborn has received over 4 million views and nearly 100,000 shares on Facebook.

Though posted recently by the pro-life group Live Action, Lankford’s remarks from the Senate floor were made in response to the revelation that Planned Parenthood was allegedly selling aborted babies’ body parts.

The senator contrasted the concern that many have for the treatment of animals, even lab animals, versus the lack of caring for humans, who only need more time to become adults like those listening to his voice.

Lankford recalled seeing footage of animal rights activists holding signs outside of a research facility that read, “It’s not science, it’s violence.”

“Planned Parenthood is using children that are aborted and sending the bodies of those aborted children to research facilities, sometimes for sale, different body parts, to be used in research,” he said.

“These are not mice, these are not lab rats, these are children. Children who have gone through the process of any horrific abortion,” Lankford stated.

He then recounted being in a meeting earlier that day where people spoke passionately about saving Orca whales and stopping horses from being slaughtered.

“But in the middle of all that conversation happening today, there were children still being aborted, with an instrument reaching into a mother, tearing apart a child, but carefully protecting certain organs because those organs would be valuable to sell,” Lankford said.

The Oklahoman went on to discuss how different parts of aborted babies are preserved because they have value to researchers.

“I would tell you,” said Lankford as his voice began to crack, “that child has value. And that every single adult that can hear me right now was once 20 weeks old in the womb. And we can look at each other and understand the difference between that child in the womb and any of us now is time.”

“It doesn’t bring me comfort to know one child is torn apart so maybe they can do research on the child’s organs, so that in some future moment help a different child,” he concluded.

Last week, Lankford spoke in support of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would have essentially banned abortions past 20 weeks.

The bill passed the House, but fell short in the Senate by a vote of 51-46, with Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine joining with Democrats in opposition to the measure.

“There are numerous examples of in-utero surgery of unborn children at 5 months of pregnancy & younger that receive anesthesia… because #TheyFeelPain,” Lankford tweeted.

“Pain-Capable bill isn’t about religion, gov’t control, or anything else,” he added. “This is about humane treatment & #humanrights.” (For more from the author of “U.S. Senator’s Passionate Pro-Life Speech Has Already Garnered 4.3 Million Views” please click HERE)
