Pizza for Breakfast? Nutritionists Say It’s Healthier Than Cereal

Forget what your mother may have told you about pizza for breakfast: it can be good for you and better than many kinds of cereal, according to a New York-based nutritionist.

“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” registered dietitian Chelsey Amer told the Chicago Tribune’s Daily Meal.

“However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning,” she explained.

The popular blogger concedes, depending on what is on the pizza, it may not be a healthy food, but does provide a more balanced meal than cereal.

“A slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash,” Amer said.

Fellow licensed nutritionist Keri Gans told the New York Post that cereal can be a good breakfast option too.

“If you choose the right cereal that’s packed with fiber, it may help lower cholesterol and control blood sugar,” she said.

“This helps keep your appetite in check — and helps fend off mid-morning hunger pangs. Check the nutrition panel: If it has 3 grams of sugar or fewer, and at least 6 grams of fiber, you’re in good shape,” Gans stated.

Cereal’s nutritional value can easily be enhanced by adding nuts, seeds, yogurt or fruits like berries, bananas or sliced apples.

The nutrition site VeryWell offered some suggestions about how to make a healthier pizza.

They include choosing a whole-wheat crust as well as adding healthy toppings like spinach, asparagus, broccoli, chicken and fresh minced garlic. (For more from the author of “Pizza for Breakfast? Nutritionists Say It’s Healthier Than Cereal” please click HERE)

Black Writer: Black Caucus’ Behavior During Sotu Shows They Are ‘Slaves’ to Democratic Party

It’s safe to say political commentator Candace Owens isn’t a fan of the Democratic Party or the Congressional Black Caucus, especially after the behavior they displayed during President Donald Trump’s recent State of the Union address.

After the ceremony, Owens, otherwise known as Red Pill Black, posted a series of tweets bashing the Democratic Party’s treatment of black Americans and blatant disrespect for the accomplishments achieved under the Trump administration.

The young conservative continued her Twitter rant by stating that members of the Congressional Black Caucus who remained seated during the standing ovation would have stood if the announcement came from former President Barack Obama. She added that those members who sat idly during the ovation “are nothing more than slaves to the Democratic Party.”

The YouTube star also came to the defense of black conservatives who are often ostracized and ridiculed for sociopolitical beliefs that differ from 87% of the black community that politically aligns with the Democratic Party.

“For too long, blacks that have been trying to help the black community have been labeled coons, while those that wish to destroy it have been celebrated as heroes,” Owens wrote. “That chapter is coming to an end.

“BlackAmerica is on the brink of an ideological revolution. We can’t be stopped.”

Owens’ diatribe came after cameras captured multiple members of the Congressional Black Caucus refusing to applaud and commemorate the various accomplishments achieved under the Trump administration.

During one moment in particular, Trump announced that “African American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded.”

The majority of the crowd stood to its feet and applauded the significant announcement.

But as the camera panned over the crowd, something noticeable stood out — a majority Democrats and black caucus members remained seated with dejected looks on their faces.

The conservative commentator also took several other jabs at Democrats during her Twitter tirade.

She warned her followers that “radical islamists” aren’t the only threat to America.

“If you think radical islamists are the only threat to America, you must not be watching the #SOTU,” Owens tweeted Tuesday night. “Holy crap, Democrats.”

While Owens may have been the most vocal about her disdain for the behavior of Democrats, she wasn’t the only person to voice opposition to the stunt.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., aired his grievances with the decision on Wednesday.

“I was very, very upset when I saw the Republicans never, ever stood up with Barack Obama, and there was things I didn’t agree about President Obama in his speech,” he told MSNBC.

“But I was taught in West Virginia there’s a little bit of respect, and you should show that. And I did that then, and I did it last night,” he continued. “I think the Democrats were wrong in not showing respect. That’s just me.” (For more from the author of “Black Writer: Black Caucus’ Behavior During Sotu Shows They Are ‘Slaves’ to Democratic Party” please click HERE)

Congresswoman Caught on Camera Playing ‘Candy Crush’ During Trump’s Sotu Speech Highlights from President Trump’s First State of the Union Address

Before a joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump delivered his very first State of the Union address on Tuesday. But some lawmakers in attendance didn’t seem to be all that interested in what he had to say.

The U.K. Daily Mail pointed out that Democrat Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan was clearly playing “Candy Crush” — a popular mobile game — on her phone while Trump was talking about international trade.

A Getty photo taken at about 9:42 p.m. showed Lawrence, who is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, playing the game. Moreover, the two congresswomen sitting to her left — fellow caucus members — were also focused on their cellphones.

Meanwhile, the congresswoman in the middle of the photo, Ohio Democrat Rep. Joyce Beatty, seemed to be looking over a yet-to-be-published news release responding to Trump’s speech before he was even finished talking.

A spokesperson for Beatty later told The Daily Mail that lawmakers were given copies of the president’s planned remarks beforehand.

“That State of the Union is put out an hour in advance so Democrats and Republicans can read along,” the spokesperson said. “And while the speech was going on, she was putting together a statement in response.”

Finally, New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman — seen in the far left part of the photo, looked to be scrolling through the responses to a tweet she had put out during the address, in which she claimed Trump surrounds himself with “white nationalists.”

As of Thursday afternoon, none of the congresswomen pictured in the photo — with the exception of Beatty — had publicly addressed what exactly they were doing during the State of the Union speech.

Within hours of Trump concluding his address, though, Lawrence was already criticizing what he said.

“When you know his policies and the things he has said and the disrespect, I cannot connect the words to the person standing there,” she told The Detroit News. “He kept talking about us as Americans. I don’t feel like I’m his America. I’m been feeling that way for a long time.”

Meanwhile, as noted by The Hill, other Democrats also expressed their disapproval with the presidents’ remarks.

Many Democrats sat together and refused to clap when Trump talked about his accomplishments, like the passage of the historic tax reform bill late last month. Zimbabwe to Give White Farmers 99-Year Leases, like Black Counterparts

Zimbabwe will issue 99-year leases to white farmers, according to a government circular, after new President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he would end discrimination along racial lines in agriculture.

Fewer than 400 white farmers are still operating in the southern African nation, after former president Robert Mugabe’s government evicted more than 4,000 under an often violent land reform program.

Those who remained were issued with five-year renewable leases by the state compared to 99-year leases for black farmers, leaving their land vulnerable to expropriation by the government.

The agriculture ministry circular to staff, seen by Reuters, says white farmers should now be issued the same 99-year leases as black farmers.

“Please be informed that the minister of Lands, Agriculture and Resettlement has directed that all remaining white farmers be issued 99-year leases instead of the 5-year leases as per the previous arrangement,” said the circular, dated Jan. 19. Salons and Cosmetology Schools Now Required to Post Human Trafficking Signs

By KXCAN. Cosmetology schools and salons now play a critical role in guiding human trafficking survivors to the right places.

A new law that took effect Thursday, Feb. 1 requires salons and schools to display a sign with information about available resources and services to anyone who is a trafficking victim. The sign was created by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

“I think its a really good opportunity for us to help people in situations that they might not otherwise feel comfortable talking about,” Laura Anderson said.

Anderson, who owns The Salon at the Domain, said this is a way they can help customers and clients. (Read more from “Salons and Cosmetology Schools Now Required to Post Human Trafficking Signs” HERE)

L.A. Middle School Shooting: Two Students Wounded, Female Student Booked

By NBC News. A 12-year-old girl was booked on charge of negligent discharge of a firearm after two students were shot in a Los Angeles middle school classroom on Thursday, police said.

A 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head was in critical condition, and a 15-year-old girl who was shot in the arm was listed as stable, Los Angeles police said Thursday night. Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center said both were expected to make full recoveries . . .

The shots erupted shortly before 9 a.m. (noon ET) at Castro, just west of downtown Los Angeles. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered, authorities said, and the campus was declared safe. Police, who described the shooting as an isolated incident involving negligence, didn’t identify the girl who was suspected of having fired the weapon because she is a juvenile . . .

The incident follows two other school shootings in the United States last week. A 16-year-old boy was charged with opening fire at a Texas high school on Jan. 22, wounding a teenage girl. And a 15-year-old boy was charged with opening fire at a Kentucky high school, killing two students and wounding 18 other people. (Read more from “L.A. Deadly Electromagnetic Railgun Reported on Chinese Navy Ship

A Chinese Navy ship has been spotted with a weapons system that resembles a deadly electromagnetic railgun. If true, it could mean that the communist nation has become the first country in the world to develop and install the system on a ship.

The purported weapon was spotted recently on the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Haiyang Shan landing ship, according to a report in The Drive. Typically, the Type 072III-class vessel packs a 37mm cannon, but in this case, there was a massive gun turret.

Piqued by the turret’s appearance, onlookers started snapping images of the ship, which was anchored at the Wuchang Shipyard in Hubei province in central China. Some of those photographs were uploaded online and started doing the rounds, with people speculating if it was a railgun.

An electromagnetic railgun uses a magnetic field to fire long-range projectiles, with a range beyond 150km, at an approximate speed of 7,000kmph. The US Navy is already working on the weapon and has showcased its capabilities in a couple of tests. However, the system has not made it to any of its ships, with previous reports suggesting the country might have lost interest in the project.

The recently spotted Chinese weapon looks very similar to the American railgun, particularly in terms of its overall shape and size, according to The Drive report. Its mount was completely enclosed and a large barrel extended out of it, which is typical for launching hypervelocity projectiles. The 500-tonne load capacity of the landing ship also makes it a good candidate for a railgun to be installed on the vessel. Shocker! Gender Neutrality Impacts Scientific Advancement

A new peer-reviewed scientific study concludes the gender of researchers conducting certain lab experiments could be seriously impacting the results, noting the outcome often cannot be replicated.

Published this month by the journal Science Advances, the paper, by Colin D. Chapman, Christian Benedict and Helgi B. Schiöth of Uppsala University in Sweden, is called “Experimenter gender and replicability in science.”

With the concept of gender neutrality popular in the West, the authors found that more studies, especially clinical trials, are being reported without any mention of the gender of the experimenters.

“Consequently, significant biases caused by the experimenter’s gender may lead researchers to conclude that therapeutics or other interventions are either overtreating or undertreating a variety of conditions,” the research paper concludes. “Bearing this in mind, this policy paper emphasizes the importance of reporting and controlling for experimenter gender in future research.”

The report concludes “a replication crisis spreading through the annals of scientific inquiry.” (Read more from “Shocker! Gender Neutrality Impacts Scientific Advancement” HERE)

High Ranking Democrat Threatens Release of Other Classified Info

Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden threatened Wednesday to release sensitive and classified information if the House Intelligence Committee’s majority memo is released to the public.

“If this memo comes out, I have a long list of less sensitive, but still classified, information that the American people deserve to see,” he tweeted to his followers.

Wyden spokesman Keith Chu disputed the Oregon Democrat was threatening to release anything telling the Daily Caller in an e-mail statement, “You’ve misread Sen. Wyden’s tweet. Wyden is pledging to ramp up his 17-year fight to stop government from abusing the classification system through secret law. Please read his whole thread or ask before making wild accusations.”

Wyden’s remark comes in the wake of reports that the memo, written by Republican staffers and members on the committee, which describes how the FBI conducted its probe of the Clinton email case and Russia investigation, could be released at any point this week. The bureau claimed that the agency has “grave concerns” over making the memo public. (Read more from “High Ranking Democrat Threatens Release of Other Classified Info” HERE)
