Cop Criticizes David Hogg on Social Media, Gets Suspended

A veteran Coconut Creek Police Officer who made a snide and disparaging comment about student activists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will be suspended from his job without pay for 5 days and undergo sensitivity training, the city’s police chief told CBS 4 News.

The fallout from the comment by Officer Brian Valenti will result in all Coconut Creek city employees undergoing training in the proper use of social media for personal use in the near future.

Valenti is a K-9 officer for the Coconut Creek Police Department. He’s been with the agency for 23 years but despite a distinguished career he is now known for a nasty comment he made on a social media post about last week’s die-in protest at Publix organized by survivors of the Stoneman Douglas shooting. Student activists like David Hogg made their voices heard regarding campaign contributions by the grocery store giant to politicians who support the NRA. Meanwhile, Officer Valenti posted on Facebook that maybe an old lady would lose control of her car in the Publix lot where some of the students drew chalk outlines to signify the number of dead in the February 14th school shooting…

“He made a horrible error in judgment,” said Coconut Creek Police Chief Butch Arenal, who admitted he was aghast at the comment made by the veteran officer over the weekend.

“When we are on or off duty we have a special role in our community and he understands that,” Arenal said. “He is extremely remorseful and is very embarrassed by the situation.” (Read more from “Cop Criticizes David Hogg on Social Media, Gets Suspended” HERE)

Harvey Weinstein Indicted on Rape Charges

Hours after Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer said the producer would not testify before a grand jury, the same panel has now indicted the disgraced Oscar winner on two sets of rape charges and a sex crime charge.

“A Grand Jury has voted to indict Harvey Weinstein on charges of Rape in the First and Third Degrees, and Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said this afternoon. (Read the two-page indictment here, but be warned there are graphic descriptions of sex acts in it.) . . .

On Friday, Weinstein did the perp walk after surrendering himself to the NYPD. He was arrested and charged with two counts of rape (one involving force) as well as a criminal sexual act in the first degree, for alleged assaults against two women that occurred in 2013 and 2004 — the same charges the indictment just slapped down.

While the D.A. has been pecked at for moving too slow on the material the NYPD handed over against the much accused Weinstein, the grand jury has quietly been sitting for several weeks and issuing subpoenas. That process has now been unleashed.

“This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged,” Vance said of the latest legal move against the producer. “Our office will try this case not in the press, but in the courtroom where it belongs. The defendant’s recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable. We are confident that when the jury hears the evidence, it will reject these attacks out of hand.” (Read more from “Harvey Weinstein Indicted on Rape Charges” HERE)

Planned Parenthood Is Accomplice to Sex Abuse

Headlines about sex abuse, sex abusers and their victims have flooded American media in recent months, with Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein and others abruptly on defense, fighting for their businesses, their careers and even their freedom. . .

The pro-life activists at Live Action have released a report titled “Aiding Abusers: Planned Parenthood’s cover-up of child sexual abuse,” accompanied by a series of videos.

The report and videos document cases in which sex-abuse victims have been taken to Planned Parenthood for an abortion by their attackers and, stunningly, then returned to the care of their attackers. . .

Live Action explains: “Through the Time’s Up and Me Too movements, America is calling for an end to sexual abuse in every institution. But few are calling out one of America’s biggest accomplices to sexual abuse, even though there is widespread documentation of decades-long systemic sexual abuse cover up behind its doors.

“The group is Planned Parenthood and they are tax funded. Planned Parenthood claims that sexual assault victims come to their facilities on a daily basis. What we will show you in Live Action’s seven part video series is how Planned Parenthood treats these victims, consistently and deliberately failing to report their abuse and even making a profit doing so.” (Read more from “Planned Parenthood Is Accomplice to Sex Abuse” HERE)

Trump Wishes He Chose Different Attorney General

President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday that he wished he had picked someone other than Jeff Sessions for attorney general, stoking anew the long-running awkwardness between the two men.

Trump’s tweets come hours after The New York Times reported that the president’s public and private criticisms of Sessions are now under the scope of the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller. . .

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted comments made Wednesday by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) that criticized Sessions for not warning the president that he might need to recuse himself from the probe. Gowdy rejected the idea that Trump’s March 2017 request amounted to obstruction of justice.

“Rep.Trey Gowdy, ‘I don’t think so, I think what the President is doing is expressing frustration that Attorney General Sessions should have shared these reasons for recusal before he took the job, not afterward. If I were the President and I picked someone to be the country’s….” Trump wrote, quoting Gowdy’s comments to CBS early Wednesday. “….chief law enforcement officer, and they told me later, ‘oh by the way I’m not going to be able to participate in the most important case in the office, I would be frustrated too…and that’s how I read that – Senator Sessions, why didn’t you tell me before I picked you….There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!'”

“And I wish I did!” Trump added. (Read more from “Trump Wishes He Chose Different Attorney General” HERE)

Somali Gang Storms U.S. Park, Attack Random People

In what is just the latest incident of violence by Somali refugees in the United States, a gang has been caught on video attacking victims in a Lewiston, Maine, park.

Maine First Media reported witnesses said the attack began when one of the victims asked an attacker for a lighter for his cigarette. . . .

Main First Media said a dozen Somali youth “swarmed and attacked two local residents in Kennedy Park last Thursday evening. The Somali mob attacked around 7:45 pm, just as the sun was setting on this historic city park in the heart of Maine’s second largest city.”

The report said a local mother recorded the video “as a mob of teens and children, boys and girls as young as nine years old, brandishing wooden bats and other objects, along with fists, feet and sheer numbers to attack the two non-Somali defenders.” . . .

“Kennedy Park is a large common space in the middle of some of the poorest census tracts in the Northeast,” [Mayor] Bouchard told the agency. “When you have large, diverse groups of people in the same place you are bound to have incidents. Lewiston is no different in that respect than any other medium to large city, except that Lewiston’s violent crime rate is one of the lowest in Maine.” (Read more from “Somali Gang Storms U.S. Park, Attack Victims” HERE)

Disgusting Video of Woman Shaving Legs in Public Pool Goes Viral

. . .A woman got caught on video shaving her legs in a crowded pool in Florida.

It’s unclear where exactly in the state the incident occurred, and whether it went down at a hotel, motel, resort, apartment complex or public pool.

The woman, wearing a floral bathing suit, sits on the steps in the shallow end, seemingly without a care in the world, as if she were relaxing in her own bathroom. Kids play with floats nearby as she rinses off her razor in the water in which they are swimming.

Roseanne Canceled After ‘Racist’ Tweet

By Chicago Tribune. ABC canceled its hit reboot of “Roseanne” on Tuesday following star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet that referred to former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett as a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes.”

ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said the comment “is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.” Barr apologized and deleted her Monday-night tweet, calling it a “bad joke,” but the damage had already been done.

Late Tuesday, Barr tweeted a second apology to the writers and co-stars of the show and urging people not to feel sorry for her. She also highlighted supporters’ tweets that criticized ABC and two of its personalities, Joy Behar and Keith Olbermann.

She also retweeted a meme that juxtaposed shots of President Donald Trump next to orangutans, and an image of Jarrett next to a picture of a “Planet of the Apes” actress.

‘Roseanne’ Canceled by ABC

By Deadline Hollywood. ABC has abruptly canceled Roseanne Barr’s hit comedy series revival following a morning in which the star launched a tirade of racist and anti-semitic tweets.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey just announced. . .

Barr’s family sitcom – the biggest success story of the 2017-18 TV season – had been picked up for a second season after only one episode, which clocked record ratings. Roseanne was the highest-rated and most watched freshman series of the 2017-18 season and ranked No. 2 overall among all entertainment programs in total viewers (17.82 million in Live+7) and in the adults 18-49 demographic (5.0 rating). Dem Lawmakers Move to Restrict Christians’ Right to Oppose Homosexuality

A new bill being proposed by Democrats would amend the Religious Freedom Restoration Act from “being used to justify discrimination against people, including gay, lesbian and transgender citizens,” The Washington Post reports, leading to fears that religious organizations could be restricted from opposing homosexuality.

The new law would be called the Do No Harm Act, and its purported aim is to amend the 25-year-old RFRA so that religious injunctions on homosexuality could not be considered under it.

“The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, commonly referred to as RFRA, was popular among lawmakers in both parties when it was enacted in 1993. Initially, it was usually referenced in cases involving practitioners of minority religions, such as Sikhs and Muslims seeking the right to wear their religious headgear in their driver’s license photos,” The Post reported last Tuesday. . .

The bill is unlikely to pass, given that the GOP controls the House, Senate and 1600 Pennsylvania, but it gives a disturbing glimpse into how the Democrats plan to attack the First Amendment and religion in the courts. . .

At least speaking as a Christian, the Bible is fairly clear on homosexuality and transgender issues. Whether or not you yourself as a believer choose to follow those strictures is your own choice, but there’s no denying that they are in there and they’re constitutionally-protected. State Dept. Asks Judge for 45 Years to Review Fake Dossier Docs

. . .The Washington Times reported in March on a book written by two liberal authors — Yahoo News reporter Michael Isikoff and Mother Jones magazine founder David Corn, who have themselves been implicated in the formation of the dossier — titled “Russian Roulette,” which delved deep into the Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy theory.

That book alleged that a former top State Department official at the time, Victoria Nuland, granted clearance and gave the green light for an FBI agent to meet with dossier author Christopher Steele in Rome in July 2016. This is believed to have been the start of the FBI/Steele relationship in terms of the collection of unverified anti-Trump memos.

That book seemed to confirm suspicions that Nuland, and other State Department officials in her orbit as well, were involved in the effort to prevent then-candidate Trump from winning the 2016 election, or hamstring his administration and lead to his impeachment if he succeeded in taking office.

Those suspicions led to the filing of a Freedom of Information Act request with the State Department by the group Citizens United in October 2017. The FOIA request seeks “All e-mails sent and received” by Nuland between March 1, 2016 and January 25, 2017, as well as telephone message slips and call logs — a request that has largely been ignored by the department since that time.

The request has since transformed into a lawsuit, and a federal judge has ordered the State Department to produce the documents requested by Citizens United, but a recent filing revealed that the government bureaucrats are dragging their feet at such a slow rate that they literally asked for several decades worth of time to comply with the requests.

According to a Joint Status Report filed in the case on May 23, attorneys for the State Department complained that some 104,629 documents could be considered “potentially responsive” to the request, and even if some were excluded using certain keywords, they’d still need to sift through roughly 95,000 documents. Starbucks’ ‘Everyone Invited’ Policy Floods Stores With Homeless, Used Needles

By Conservative Tribune. After a Starbucks manager in Philadelphia screwed up big league and had two men arrested while they were waiting for a friend because they wanted to use the bathroom without making a purchase, the Seattle coffee giant has decided the best way to rectify this is to turn the restaurant’s bathrooms into public lavatories, free for everyone. . .

Other people were probably more adept at guessing what the problems created by this might be. And, as it turns out, the Wall Street Journal managed to chronicle some of the issues — including drug needles, drug needles, and even more drug needles. . .

“Drug use wasn’t happening in the bathroom every day, but it was definitely something that was happening once a week. The cops were called a lot,” said Darrion Sjoquist, a 21-year-old former barista who worked in one of the chain’s Seattle stores two years ago.

He describes getting pricked by a needle once while taking out the trash. At the time, it was bad enough that other Seattle Starbucks employees “asked Starbucks to install Sharps containers — the kind of locked boxes found in doctors’ offices — in the bathrooms, to encourage drug users to properly dispose of their needles.”

While drug use was the biggest problem for employees, “defecation outside the toilets” was also an issue. (Read more from “Starbucks’ ‘Everyone Invited’ Policy Floods Stores With Homeless, Used Needles” HERE)

As Starbucks Closes for Bias Training, Black-Owned Coffee Shops Open Their Doors Wider

By NBC News. In nearly a decade of owning coffee shops in the city, Blew Kind has learned the rhythms of East Kensington, her working-class neighborhood that has felt the strain of the opioid crisis and the pull of gentrification.

Once in a while, people come into her business, Franny Lou’s Porch, just to use the bathroom, or they sit down without ordering anything. Kind, 30, offers them water and allows them to linger. . .

The welcoming vibe at Franny Lou’s, where lattes are named after historic leaders of color, presents a stark contrast to the incident that unfolded in a Starbucks a few miles away last month, when two black men were arrested after a white manager called police on them as they waited for a business associate.

The arrests spurred protests against Starbucks and the Philadelphia police, as well as calls for the city’s coffee drinkers to support small, black-owned coffee shops instead. Franny Lou’s customers shared stories on social media about how Kind offered a “safe space”; one patron left a handwritten note: “I’d rather give my coins to Blew & crew than racist Starbucks.”

Now, as Starbucks plans to close more than 8,000 locations across the country on Tuesday afternoon for “racial-bias education” for the staff — which could cost the Seattle-based coffee chain an estimated $12 million in revenue — owners of small coffee shops from Philadelphia to Sacramento, California, see both a financial opportunity and a chance to emphasize their value to the community. On the same day, Kind and other black owners of Philadelphia coffee shops will take part in a roundtable discussion at Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse to promote inclusivity and racial justice.
