Seriously? U.S. Just Made the Most Ridiculous List

The United States has cracked into the top 10 of an unfortunate list. We are now the 10th most dangerous country for women, according to “experts” from the Thompson Reuters Foundation.

The United States has been ranked for the first time among the ten nations deemed to be the most dangerous for women by experts in the field. A survey by the Thompson Reuters Foundation of about 550 experts in women’s issues around the globe labelled the U.S. the 10th most dangerous nation in terms of the risk of sexual violence, harassment and being coerced into sex.

Reuters said the U.S. placement on the dubious list was down largely to the #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns increasing awareness of sexual violence and intimidation of women in the U.S. in the wake of the criminal allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. (CBS News)

With Cartels in Control, There Are No Easy Answers to the Border Crisis

. . .Libertarians, too, are grasping for simple solutions. Over at Reason, J.D. Tuccille suggests that “better smugglers” are the best way to fight Trump’s draconian border policy. “Immigrants and their supporters should give some thought, and effort, to improved smuggling channels that treat migrants better than the existing criminal networks, and offer them a better chance of success,” writes Tuccille. He doesn’t mention the possibility that these new smugglers might find themselves at odds with the old smugglers, whose profits are at stake, or that jumping into Mexico’s migrant smuggling trade as a freelancer carries the risk of, say, being beheaded by one of the cartels.

Tuccille’s facile take is emblematic of the way the media has more or less ignored the role that “criminal networks” are playing in all of this—a role that makes easy solutions impossible. Throughout the border crisis, the media’s attention has been focused on the plight of Central American families and the chaos created by Trump’s zero-tolerance policy. Sure, the president likes to exaggerate how many MS-13 gang members are crossing the border, but neither Trump nor his detractors are thinking seriously about the escalating violence and accelerating social collapse now underway in Mexico and Central America, and how crime syndicates are playing into illegal immigration along the southern border. . .

National elections in Mexico are set for July 1, and so far 121 political candidates, most of them running for local office, have been assassinated, along with dozens of their family members. Hundreds more have been attacked. On Thursday, a mayoral candidate in Ocampo, in the western state of Michoacan, was killed outside his residence—the third politician to be killed in Michoacan in just over a week. Federal police responded by arresting the entire town’s 27-officer police force on suspicion of involvement with the murder, another reminder that across Mexico drug cartels have infiltrated local and state police forces, political machines, and major industries. Candidates who speak out against corruption and vow to stand up to the cartels are especially in danger.

The violence is bad enough that the U.S. State Department has issued “do not travel” advisories for five Mexican states—Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas, whose northern boundary runs along the U.S. border from Brownsville to Laredo, Texas. These are the same travel advisories in place for countries like Libya, Syria, and North Korea. For much of the rest of Mexico, including nearly the entire U.S.-Mexico border, the State Department advises Americans to “reconsider travel.”

Tamaulipas is so dangerous right now that the interim governor of Nuevo Laredo, which sits directly across the Rio Grande from Laredo, has warned his citizens not to try to travel to the United States through Tamaulipas, and especially not through the town of Reynosa, across the river from McAllen, Texas. The official warning came a day after gunmen believed to be associated with the Gulf Cartel ambushed marines with the Mexican Navy three times in Nuevo Laredo, killing one and injuring 12 others. According to Mexican officials, the gunmen wore marine uniforms and drove vehicles with government markings. The ambushes only stopped when the marines called in a helicopter gunship for support. HUGE: Supreme Court Upholds Trump’s Travel Ban

By The Federalist. The Supreme Court upheld the latest iteration of President Trump’s travel ban in a 5-4 ruling Tuesday, delivering a big win to the administration on a key campaign promise.

The proclamation temporarily suspends immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries with deficient vetting procedures or significant ties to terrorism. The state of Hawaii, which brought the case, claimed the ban unlawfully discriminates against Muslims, but the court found Trump was well within his rights granted by the Immigration and Nationality Act, which gives the president broad powers to suspend entry from countries deemed a threat.

“By its terms, [the law] exudes deference to the President in every clause,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the opinion. “It entrusts to the President the decisions whether and when to suspend entry, whose entry to suspend, for how long, and on what conditions.”

Roberts was joined in that opinion by justices Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Samuel Alito. The four liberals on the court — justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor — cast the dissenting votes.

Supreme Court Upholds Trump Travel Ban 5-4

By Washington Post. . .The vote was 5 to 4, with conservatives in the majority and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. finding that a string of unprecedented comments and warnings from Trump about Muslims did not erode the president’s vast powers to control entry into this country. . .

Later, the White House issued a formal response that also took a swipe at Trump’s declared enemies. It called the ruling a “vindication following months of hysterical commentary from the media and Democratic politicians who refuse to do what it takes to secure our border and our country.”

Lower courts had struck down each of the three iterations of the president’s travel ban, the first of which was issued in January 2017. But the administration said it fortified the order in response to each judicial setback, and it had reason to be optimistic about the Supreme Court, since the justices previously decided to let the ban go into effect while considering the challenges to it. Investigation: Obama’s People Drugged, Force-Fed Meds to Border Kids

A blockbuster report last week by the Center for Investigative Reporting cast a glaring light on a practice of U.S. authorities forcing immigrant children who have been separated from their parents to take psychiatric medicines – and forcibly injecting them if they resisted.

But in its eagerness to damn President Donald Trump and his administration for yet another aspect of handling illegal alien minors, according to a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner, the report left out one crucial detail.

The practice began during the Obama administration, and three of the four minors who are plaintiffs in a lawsuit naming Attorney General Jeff Sessions as a defendant were actually drugged long before Trump even took the oath of office.

As reported by the Washington Examiner’s Philip Wegmann, a lengthy article published Wednesday by Reveal, a publication of the Center for Investigative Reporting, failed to note anywhere in the text that the practice of drugging illegal alien children at a Houston-area social services contractor was begun while Obama was in the White House. . .

“Three of the four children cited in the report were drugged during the Obama administration. According to federal court filings, only one occurred while Trump was actually president. The other three happened in 2016. That timing is left out of the story, which, after opening with Trump’s policies, never mentions the years of the specific incidents of mistreatment.” (Read more from “Investigation: Obama’s People Drugged, Force-Fed Meds to Border Kids” HERE)

CHILL: Maxine Waters Bursts Into Tears, Uses ‘the Children’ as an Excuse for Harassment Comments

California Rep. Maxine Waters burst into tears Monday on MSNBC as she used “the children” to deflect away from the harassment comments she made over the weekend. . .

Waters then burst into tears after being confronted with the fact that major Democrats are denouncing her harassment claims.

“They don’t really say I’m out of line. What they do is try to find a way talk about civility without attacking me or anybody else as the leader of the Democratic Party, I expect that she would do everything that she could to make sure nobody believes that Democrats are out here harassing anybody or causing any violence,” Waters said of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who denounced Waters’ harassment comments Monday.

Waters made comments over the weekend about getting out and pushing back on people with differing political ideologies, saying, “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. Tell them they’re not welcome any more, anywhere!” (Read more from “CHILL: Maxine Waters Bursts Into Tears, Uses ‘the Children’ as an Excuse for Harassment Comments” HERE)

Hypocrite: Anti-Gun David Hogg Caught Taking Stroll With Apparent Armed Guards Feet Away

By Conservative Tribune. Self-defense for me, but not for thee: That seems to be the new message of anti-Second Amendment advocate David Hogg, at least if claims by people who spotted him in New York City recently are correct.

Earlier this week, the spotlight-seeking Parkland student-turned activist was photographed in the Big Apple apparently flanked by bodyguards with military haircuts and Secret Service-style suits. . .

As The American Mirror pointed out, Hogg himself jumped into the Twitter discussion of his apparent armed entourage and didn’t refute the claim that he was roaming the streets with armed bodyguards. . .

Other users pointed out that the hypocrisy is especially deep since it’s in New York City, a place with some of the most strict gun control laws in the nation and where concealed carry permits are nearly impossible to obtain. . .

Hogg’s version of supporting gun ownership: “They’re pathetic f***ers that want to keep killing our children,” he declared about millions of law-abiding members of the National Rifle Association. Columbus and Cincinnati Sued Over Gun Control Laws

By WOSU. Ohio pro-gun groups filed a lawsuit Thursday against Columbus and Cincinnati, hoping to overturn recently passed gun control measures.

In May, Cincinnati City Council became the first Ohio city to ban bump stocks. Columbus City Council followed by unanimously approving a slate of 11 gun ordinances.

Among the ordinances are a ban on accessories like bump stocks, restrictions on the sale of imitation firearms, and a prohibition of gun sales in residential areas.

The Buckeye Firearms Association and Ohioans For Concealed Carry, which filed companion suits against both cities, argue it’s illegal for them to pass any such restrictions. A 2006 state law blocks municipalities from passing gun control measures more restrictive than Ohio’s regulations. (Read more from “Columbus and Cincinnati Sued Over Gun Control Laws” HERE)

There Are Over One Billion Firearms Worldwide. This Is How Many Are Owned by Americans

The United States is the land of the free and the home of the brave. We all know this. We’re also a nation that cherishes gun ownership and our Second Amendment rights guaranteed under the Constitution. Right now, as with any mass shooting, those rights are under attack by the political Left. All of these shootings are horrific, but chipping away at the rights of law-abiding citizenry for the sake of safety is unwise and dangerous. It’s always been that way. Sandy Hook was a heinous crime, but no new legislation to curtail our rights occurred. The anti-gun Left went for the Hail Mary and failed. Now, they’ve focusing on local legislative goals. The push for universal background checks is no longer a focus; it’s increasing the age for purchasing firearms. Vermont and Florida, which has Republican, pro-NRA governors, caved on this front. They’re gaining legislative wins, but while the Left’s their ultimate goal is to repeal the Second Amendment and confiscate firearms, reality might upend that grand scheme.

We all know there are over 300 million firearms owned in the U.S. To enact laws to fully take all of them would need policies seen in brutal authoritarian regimes. According to Small Arms Survey, there are over 1 billion firearms in worldwide circulation, and Americans own 393 million of them. That’s 46 percent (via Time):

There are over 1 billion firearms in the world today, including 857 million in civilian hands — with American men and women the dominant owners, according to a study released Monday.

The Small Arms Survey says 393 million of the civilian-held firearms, 46 percent, are in the United States, which is “more than those held by civilians in the other top 25 countries combined.”

This Lame Duck GOP Senator’s Excuse for Blocking Trump Judges Will Set Your Hair on Fire

By The Daily Caller. Outgoing GOP Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona is blocking votes on all of President Donald Trump’s appeals court nominees to secure concessions from Republican leaders on tariffs and Cuban travel restrictions.

Flake, a Trump antagonist who is not seeking reelection amid floundering popularity with Arizona Republicans, has not openly addressed the matter, though his seat on a closely divided Senate Judiciary Committee gives him significant leverage over judgeships.

Roll Call first reported that Flake halted a committee vote on Georgia Supreme Court Justice Britt Grant’s nomination to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the federal appeals court based in Atlanta. CNN confirmed late Wednesday that the senator will block all appeals court nominees to prompt discussions on relations with Cuba and the president’s escalating trade war with much of the industrial world.

Flake is one of 11 Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which issues recommendations on judicial nominees before a final confirmation vote. The GOP has a one-vote majority on the panel, making Flake’s cooperation essential if Republicans wish to process candidates.

As of this writing, there are 10 appeals court nominees pending before the committee, including a candidate for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a regular target of conservative scorn and has jurisdiction over Flake’s home state. At Rally in Minnesota, Trump Says Border Will Stay “Tough”

By CBS News. President Trump was in his element Wednesday night at a rally in Duluth, Minn., where supporters cheered him on as he blasted illegal immigration, praised his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, promoted his new “Space Force” and mocked protesters.

In the roughly one-hour rally, the president jumped from topic to topic, as he often does, lightly touching on his decision earlier in the day to temporarily end family separation at the border. Mr. Trump said the U.S. will still be “tough” at the border, despite that policy change by executive order, a policy change Mr. Trump had said only days ago couldn’t be done by executive order.

Mr. Trump also reiterated his claim that he will halt foreign aid to countries from which people immigrate illegally.

“They’re not sending their finest,” Mr. Trump said. “We’re sending them the hell back. That’s what we’re doing.” (Read more from “At Rally in Minnesota, Trump Says Border Will Stay “Tough” HERE)

U.S. Schools: There Is No God but Allah

By WND. A fight has erupted over the mandatory Islamic indoctrination imposed on students by a public school, including reciting the Islamic oath of allegiance called the shahada, which states, “There is no god but Allah.”

The Thomas More Law Center is representing Richard Penkoski in his dispute with Mountain Ridge Middle School in West Virginia. . .

Among the points of contention, on May 14, his seventh-grade daughter “brought home a packet of lessons and assignments which included the following: Write the shahada, the Islamic conversion creed, ‘There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah,” in Arabic as part of ‘calligraphy’ practice.” . . .

Penkoski, who hosts an online Christian ministry called Warriors for Christ, contacted the school when his daughter brought home the Islamic teachings, and he asked TMLC to look into the legal aspects.

He charged that it pushed far beyond what ordinarily would be expected in a class about world religions, because of the disparity with teachings about other religions. (Read more from “U.S. School: There Is No God but Allah” HERE)

NJ School District Under Fire for Allegedly Indoctrinating Children With Islam

By CBN News. A federal court is moving ahead with a lawsuit against a New Jersey School District accused of indoctrinating children with Islamic teachings.

District Court Judge Kevin McNulty denied a motion by the Chatham, New Jersey School District to dismiss a claim brought by Libby Hilsenrath. Hilsenrath says her son was forced to watch videos in his middle school World Cultures and Geography class that were meant to convert the students to Islam.

Kate Oliveri from the Thomas Moore Law Center applauded the judge’s decision to move forward with the case.

“This ruling comes as no surprise. The motion to dismiss was a further attempt by the school district to bully and silence Mrs. Hilsenrath. The school district ignored the legal standard and ignored the facts, attempting instead to fool the judge with a poor attempt at sophistry,” she said.

Hilsenrath says her son and his classmates were shown videos that went beyond informing the students about Islam, but actually called for conversions to the faith. (Read more from “NJ School District Under Fire for Allegedly Indoctrinating Children With Islam” HERE)

McCain Staffer Had Nasty Plan for Tea Parties

The IRS targeting of tea party and Christian groups during the 2012 presidential election campaign, when Barack Obama was seeking his second term, was just one of many examples of the deployment of the federal bureaucracy for political purposes during the previous administration. . .

Judicial Watch has obtained internal IRS documents that show a staff-level employee for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., urged the IRS to audit the targeted groups until it became “ruinous” for them.

Henry Kerner was McCain’s staff director and chief counsel of the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee at the time. He since has been appointed by President Trump to the United States Office of Special Counsel.

“The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an April 30, 2013, meeting between Kerner, [former IRS official Lois] Lerner, and other high-ranking IRS officials. Just ten days following the meeting, former IRS director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner admitted that the IRS had a policy of improperly and deliberately delaying applications for tax-exempt status from conservative non-profit groups,” Judicial Watch said. . .

“The Obama IRS scandal is bipartisan – McCain and Democrats who wanted to regulate political speech lost at the Supreme Court, so they sought to use the IRS to harass innocent Americans,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
