Stanford Doctors: It’s Time to Ban All Semi-Automatic Firearms

Over 2,500 medical students and healthcare professionals at over 30 leading medical centers held events on Monday urging the public to treat “gun violence” as a public health crisis, The Mercury News reported.

The events were part of Scrubs Addressing the Firearms Epidemic (SAFE), a non-partisan action co-founded by Stanford’s Professor of Medicine Dr. Dean Winslow, a Republican, and fourth year medical student Sarabeth Spitzer, a Democrat. Winslow is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and flight surgeon who was deployed six times to Iraq and Afghanistan.

At Stanford, healthcare professionals spoke about the health risk associated with guns, the gun epidemic and trauma care. At the University of California San Francisco, two panels discussed California’s firearms laws and recommended ways to talk to patients about firearm access, safety, and risk. . .

“If this were any other public health problem, we wouldn’t stand for it. But it’s such a hot button political topic that we lose the ability to talk about it,” Spain told The Mercury News. “We’ve been a little slow. We’re politically adverse. Our mission is education and research. This is advocacy.”

Medical associations and groups have become involved in the gun control debate. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association are just a few who have thrown their hat into the arena. Christian Blogger Gets Death Threats Over Pro-Life Tweet

Fox News guest and PJ Media contributor Denise McAllister is reportedly receiving death and rape threats. Her crime? Sending out a pro-life tweet. . .

“The root of abortion hysteria is women’s unhinged desire for irresponsible sex. Sex is their god. Abortion is their sacrament. It’s abhorrent as women have flung themselves from the heights of being the world’s civilized force to the muck and mire of dehumanizing depravity.”

The Christian blogger reports subsequently being attacked across multiple social media platforms, and her private email inbox. On September 10, she tweeted “Due to threats against my life, my family is asking that I stay off social media until the situation is resolved. I don’t want to, but I need to respect their wishes at this time. I hope to return soon. Keep up the good fight, my friends.”

“I am facing legit death & rape threats because I have dared to call out women who are hysterical about abortion and to challenge them to be responsible and not to elevate sex to the point that they’re willing to kill human life to avoid their responsibilities,” McAllister said. “How sick is that?” . . .

Back in January, Elizabeth Johnston, otherwise known as Activist Mommy, was threatened on Facebook. Johnston, a popular Christian blogger and homeschooling mother, is known for her viral rants. But then she started receiving death threats. (Read more from “Christian Blogger Gets Death Threats Over Pro-Life Tweet” HERE)

How to Fundamentally Transform a Country

All things in life, even good things, have a limit to their utility and a point at which they become liabilities. Think of tasty spices in a dish or other ingredients in a melting pot. Quantities count, particularly over a specific period of time. Immigration is no different.

Recent Census data released from the 2017 American Community Survey (ACS) shows that immigration has grown to shocking, wholly unprecedented levels. Is it too much to ask that we engage in a mature policy discussion after five decades of record immigration with no end in sight?

The topline number from the survey shows that we have record 44.5 million immigrants in this country, composing 13.7 percent of the population – a greater share than at any time since 1910 and almost three times greater than the share of immigrants in 1970. 1910 was at the peak of the Great Wave, when we were a relatively young country, most of the immigration was from relatively similar backgrounds, there was no welfare state, there was a strong culture of assimilation, and most importantly, there was a subsequent shutoff.

Here are some other key nuggets from the survey:

Together with the 17.1 million U.S.-born minor children of immigrants, immigrant families make up 20 percent of the population.

A number of the countries with the sharpest increase in immigration since 2010 are Islamic countries and almost exclusively from the third world. Here is the breakdown from the Center for Immigration Studies: “Nepal (up 120%), Burma (up 95%), Venezuela (up 91%), Afghanistan (up 84%), Saudi Arabia (up 83%), Syria (up 75%), Bangladesh (up 62%), Nigeria (up 57%), Kenya (up 56%), India (up 47%), Iraq (up 45%), Ethiopia (up 44%), Egypt (up 34%), Brazil (up 33%), Dominican Republic and Ghana (up 32%), China (up 31%), Pakistan (up 31%), and Somalia (up 29%).”

The two states with the largest increase in immigration since 2010 are Florida and Texas. They topped even the blue states of California, New York, and New Jersey. If you want to paint the electoral map blue, this is the surest way to do it.

Why this wave of immigration dwarfs the Great Wave

Aside from percentages, raw numbers do matter in our ability to assimilate. Over the 29-year period from 1989 to 2017, the U.S. has admitted 29.7 million immigrants. During a comparable 29-year period at the height of the Great Wave, from 1896 to 1924, only 17.9 million green cards were issued.

Also, because of shorter life expectancy and other factors, the Great Wave of immigration didn’t result in nearly as many naturalizations and a new voting population like this one has. This chart from the DHS is worth 1,000 words:

From 1996 through 2017, 15,453,174 new immigrants became citizens. During the Great Wave, the number of naturalizations was very low because it took time for immigrants to go through the system and become citizens. But even if you take an equivalent 22-year period with the highest level of naturalizations, which was from 1924 to1945, just 4,334,798 immigrants were naturalized. In other words, while the immigration wave of the modern era was almost twice as large as the Great Wave, the “naturalization wave” was three and a half times greater.

Moreover, we have not even reached the full extent of the wave of immigration, which is still growing. That means the naturalization boon to the Democrat Party will only continue to grow as we finish the lag time for existing immigrants to become citizens.

Numerous factors distinguish the Great Wave favorably from this wave; they are the subject of chapter 7 in my book. But the most important of all is that there was a shutoff for several decades thereafter. This point was so obvious to anyone living at the time that when Congress decided to shut off immigration on February 22, 1921 (temporarily, until the long-term bill was developed in 1924), the bill passed the Senate 78-1 and passed the House without a recorded vote! Expressing the universal view at the time, the accompanying report from the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization stated, “There is a limit to our power of assimilation.”

It was obvious at the time that a cool-off was in order, and history, along with the success of assimilating the Great Wave immigrants, proved it right. And while people at the time expressed concerns about the lack of assimilation, nobody back then had reason to fear a lack of assimilation turning into the disaster it is in Europe today as a result of the large migration from the Middle East, a policy we have now mimicked.

Rather than a shutoff, we are accelerating mass migration with no questions asked

One could argue that by the early 1990s, we had already surpassed the size, scope, and cultural transformation of the equivalent period of the first Great Wave. At the time, even liberals like Harry Reid warned that we had never seen anything like this before and introduced a bill to “restore immigration to its traditional and more manageable level of about 300,000 annually.”

Fast-forward 25 years, and we’ve admitted roughly 25 million more legal immigrants – 9.5 million just in the past 8 years – admitted countless millions of illegal immigrants, and established a trajectory through chain migration that will bring in even more immigrants, dwarfing the current unprecedented wave. Under the current trajectory, by 2065, 88 percent of our population growth will be from immigrants.

During the Great Wave, although immigration spiked between 1880 and 1920, the shutoff

created a dynamic in which the foreign-born population in the country went down so that by 1970 — ninety years after the beginning of the Great Wave — the immigration population had only increased 44 percent in raw numbers. Over that same time period, the native-born population increased by 306 percent.

This is why the Great Wave worked. As noted immigration historian Maldwyn Allen Jones observed of the post-WWI shutoff, “With reinforcements no longer arriving from across the ocean, ties with Europe were gradually weakened and memories of the old life grew dimmer with each passing year.” This dynamic “accelerated the Americanization of those groups which had come earlier.”

Contrast this to the current wave of naturalization, which is already three times larger than the peak wave in the 1940s, and it is coinciding with an even larger wave of new immigrants coming to reinforce the new citizens, anchoring them back to their old culture and values. By 2060, ninety years after that benchmark in 1970, the immigrant population is projected to be 715 percent larger in raw numbers. Over the same period, the native-born population is projected to increase by just 77 percent.

Yet instead of unanimous resolve to immediately slow down immigration, those of us who even question increases in current immigration are called nativists. There are almost no elected Republicans who would vouch for the position of liberal Harry Reid from 1993, even though the rationale for his policy is even more compelling two decades later.

This is not what our Founders had in mind

With an ideal antithetical to the multiculturalism and balkanization of today’s progressive America, Washington laid out a vision of American citizenship and pride of patriotism as follows in his farewell address:

“Citizens, by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion, manners, habits, and political principles. You have in a common cause fought and triumphed together; the Independence and Liberty you possess are the work of joint counsels, and joint efforts, of common dangers, sufferings, and successes.”

Immigration, especially at this time, when followed prudently and gradually, can enrich this culture of common cause in pursuit of liberty. But when immigration policy is pursued in such an impetuous, irresponsible, precipitous – and ultimately random – fashion that there is no longer a common cause, the America George Washington sought to establish will no longer exist. These College Students Aren’t Voting. You Won’t Believe Why.

By The Daily Wire. Democrats are relying on young voters to turn out in record numbers to preserve the so-called “blue wave” in November. But if college students in Virginia are any indication, getting kids to vote may be harder than it seems.

According to local news station WTOP, Fairfax County college students aren’t likely to return their absentee ballots because “a U.S. Postal Service stamp seems to be a foreign concept to them.” . . .

Apparently, members of a focus group convened in Fairfax County agreed. The college students who turned up to explain to Fairfax County officials why so few of their friends vote had a “spirited conversation” on the subject of finding, obtaining, and using stamps to send “snail mail.”

This is bad news for Democrats, who need the largely liberal college student demographic to vote in areas that aren’t “safe” blue zones. Either that, or they’ll have to start including self-addressed stamped envelopes in absentee voter packages. (Read more from “These College Students Aren’t Voting. You Won’t Believe Why.” HERE)

Why College Students Don’t Vote Absentee? They Don’t Know Where to Buy a Postage Stamp

By WTOP. “Vote or die.” Unless, it’s too hard to find a stamp.

A Fairfax County focus group this summer found many college students who have gotten an absentee ballot simply fail to send it back because a U.S. Postal Service stamp seems to be a foreign concept to them.

“One thing that came up, which I had heard from my own kids but I thought they were just nerdy, was that the students will go through the process of applying for a mail-in absentee ballot, they will fill out the ballot, and then, they don’t know where to get stamps,” Lisa Connors with the Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs said.

“That seems to be like a hump that they can’t get across.”

The focus group included college interns from across numerous county departments. (Read more from “Why College Students Don’t Vote Absentee? They Don’t Know Where to Buy a Postage Stamp” HERE)

Watch: Here’s How Clarence Thomas Responded to Allegations Against Him

Then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas faced sexual misconduct allegations while he was going through the Supreme Court confirmation process in 1991 after being nominated to the court by George H. W. Bush.

On October 11, 1991, Thomas gave a statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee after then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) asked him if he had anything to say regarding the allegations.

“Senator, I would like to start by saying unequivocally, uncategorically, that I deny each and every single allegation against me today that suggested in any way that I had conversations of a sexual nature or about pornographic material with Anita Hill, that I ever attempted to date her, that I ever had any personal sexual interest in her, or that I in any way ever harassed her,” Thomas began.

“A second, and I think more important point,” Thomas continued. “I think that this today is a travesty. I think that it is disgusting. I think that this hearing should never occur in America. This is a case in which this sleaze, this dirt, was searched for by staffers of members of this committee, was then leaked to the media, and this committee and this body validated it and displayed it at prime time over our entire nation. How would any member on this committee, any person in this room, or any person in this country, would like sleaze said about him or her in this fashion? Or this dirt dredged up and this gossip and these lies displayed in this manner? How would any person like it?”

“The Supreme Court is not worth it. No job is worth it. I am not here for that. I am here for my name, my family, my life, and my integrity,” Thomas said. “I think something is dreadfully wrong with this country when any person, any person in this free country would be subjected to this.”

Feinstein Under Fire, Scrambles to Walk Back ‘Truthful’ Comment About Kavanaugh Accusation

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein has come under heavy fire from both sides of the aisle for her handling of the unsubstantiated accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh about an alleged sexual assault dating back 36 years, when the accuser and Kavanaugh were both in high school. Feinstein only ramped up the pressure on herself on Tuesday with a comment she is now scrambling to walk back.

Speaking to Fox News Tuesday, Feinstein said she “can’t say everything’s truthful” about the accusation from California professor Christine Blasey Ford.

Ford, said Feinstein, is “a woman that has been, I think, profoundly impacted, on this,” Fox’s Chad Pergram reports. “I can’t say that everything is truthful. I don’t know,” Feinstein added.

Feinstein also told Fox that she knows that Ford “did not want to go public,” which is “why I made the letter,” but the situation was taken out of her control. Asked what will happen if Ford decides not to testify Monday, Feinstein said, “I have no say,” stressing that the handling of the hearing is in Republicans’ hands.

Within an hour of her “truthful” comments causing a stir among media outlets on the left and right, Feinstein “clarified” that she believes the accuser is “credible.”

FUNNY NOT FUNNY: NY Times Says It’s Looking For Fake News

On Tuesday, a New York Times reporter tweeted that the paper wanted its readers to send the newspaper incidences of fake news, stating that the paper was ‘looking for false information being spread deliberately to confuse, mislead, or influence voters ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.”

The Times might start by looking inward just a little. In July 2017, the Times published a widely-condemned scurrilous editorial reiterating a long-debunked conspiracy theory suggesting that a map published by Sarah Palin’s PAC listing electoral districts caused Jared Lee Loughner to shoot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in 2011.

In May 2018, the Times understated the number of people at a Trump rally in Nashville, Tennessee, saying there were 1,000 people when there were reportedly between 5,000-8,000 people there. In July 2018, the Times was caught after repeating a reportedly false claim from 1987 that Israel’s founding prime minister, David Ben Gurion, wanted Israel to give up land it had conquered in the 1967 Six-Day War.

Most recently, last week the Times published a piece that elicited outrage against U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley titled “Nikki Haley’s View of New York Is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701.”

North Dakota Is Now Pumping as Much Crude as Venezuela

By Yahoo. North Dakota’s oil production surged to a new record in July, putting the mid-western state on par with OPEC member Venezuela.

Home to the Bakken shale play, North Dakota pumped 1.27 million barrels a day in July, according to state figures released Friday. That’s roughly the same output as Venezuela during the month. The South American nation, whose oil industry has collapsed amid a prolonged financial crisis, saw production fall further in August to 1.24 million barrels a day — about half the level seen in early 2016, according to data from OPEC secondary sources. U.S. Now the Largest Global Crude Oil Producer, EIA Says

By Workboat. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated in their latest Short-Term Energy Outlook released last week that the U.S. is now the largest global crude oil producer, likely surpassing Russia and Saudi Arabia.

In February, U.S. crude oil production exceeded that of Saudi Arabia for the first time in more than two decades. In June and August, the U.S. surpassed Russia in crude oil production for the first time since February 1999.

The Department of Energy (DOE) also announced that on Sept. 6 a short-term order was issued to Freeport LNG to export up to 2.14 billion cu. ft. per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas as liquefied natural gas (LNG) over a two-year period to both free-trade and non-free trade agreement countries. This order authorizes Freeport LNG’s initial commissioning volumes and other exports pursuant to short-term contracts. Freeport LNG will be exporting the LNG from the Freeport LNG Liquefaction Project, which is currently under construction on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas.

During this two-year authorization period, Freeport LNG will be able to export LNG to any country not prohibited by U.S. law or policy. The two-year export term will become effective on the date of the facility’s first export of LNG, currently projected to be in the third quarter of 2019. Florence Not Done Yet: The ‘Worst yet to Come,’ Risks Include Flash Floods, Landslides, Tornadoes

With at least 32 deaths linked to the flooding and high winds caused by Hurricane Florence and its aftermath, North Carolina remained in state of crisis Tuesday as officials tried to battle floodwaters that kept rising.

Wilmington, North Carolina, remained largely isolated by flooding, while more than half a million people were without power, CBS reported.

“Any direction you try coming into the city, from 20 to 40 miles out, roads are impassable,” Mayor Bill Saffo said, CNN reported. “Anyone trying to get in here — don’t try. You will be turned away. Highway Patrol won’t let you.”

“This a monumental disaster for our state,” said North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. “In many parts of North Carolina the danger is still immediate.”

Cooper said that due to the days of rain dumped on the state, the “worst flooding yet” is still to come.

Cooper’s words echoed those of Mayor Mitch Colvin of Fayetteville, North Carolina, who on Saturday predicted, “The worst is yet to come,” The Guardian reported.

Some parts of North Carolina received almost three feet of rain.

Although the Carolinas were drenched by rain from the storm, its passage through Virginia was marked by tornadoes. One person was reported killed in the state.

“Flooding is still going to be a concern into the weekend and into next week,” said Hal Austin, a National Weather Service meteorologist, according to CNBC.

Austin said more rain may fall on the Carolinas Tuesday and Wednesday.

“No more water, not even a drop, please,” he said.

Florence left the Carolinas and Virginia behind Tuesday as it moved north.

The storm was expected to drop six inches of rain on parts of New England and the mid-Atlantic on Tuesday, with flash flood watches posted across parts of New England and New York. Parts of New York State’s Erie Canal were closed in anticipation of flooding, NYUpstate reported.

The storm’s impacts may be felt other places as well.

“Not only are you going to see more impact across North Carolina … but we’re also anticipating you are about to see a lot of damage through West Virginia, all the way up to Ohio as the system exits out,” Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Brock Long said Sunday, according to Fox News. Democrats Refuse to Participate in Phone Call With Kavanaugh

Democrats serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee reportedly refused to participate in phone calls with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his sexual assault accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on Monday.

In a statement released by the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman Chuck Grassley said, “Anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has deserves to be heard, so I will continue working on a way to hear her out in an appropriate, precedented and respectful manner.”

He continued, “The standard procedure for updates to any nominee’s background investigation file is to conduct separate follow-up calls with relevant parties. In this case, that would entail phone calls with at least Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford. Consistent with that practice, I asked Senator Feinstein’s office yesterday to join me in scheduling these follow-ups.

“Thus far, they have refused. But as a necessary step in evaluating these claims, I’ll continue working to set them up.”

Later in the day, Grassley announced the committee would be holding public hearings Monday, Sept. 24, during which both Kavanaugh and Ford are slated to appear.

“As I said earlier, anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has deserves to be heard. My staff reached out to Dr. Ford to hear her account, and they held a follow-up call with Judge Kavanaugh this afternoon,” said Grassley.

“Unfortunately, committee Democrats have refused to join us in their effort. However, to provide ample transparency, we will hold a public hearing Monday to give these recent allegations a full airing,” he added.

President Donald Trump stated on Monday he wants Ford’s sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh — stemming from the early 1980s, when the two were in high school — to receive “full process” in the U.S. Senate, but predicted it “will work out very well.”

“I wish the Democrats could have done this a lot sooner because they had this information for many months,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “They shouldn’t have waited until literally the last days. They should have done it a lot sooner.”

Nonetheless, the president said, “We want to go through a full process,” adding, “I have great confidence in the U.S. Senate and in their procedures and what they’re doing.”

Trump conceded a “little delay” might be needed to look into the allegation.

Asked if Kavanaugh should withdraw his name from consideration, the president called the question “ridiculous.”

Originally, a vote by the Judiciary Committee had been slated for this Thursday.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who sits on the committee, told The Washington Post on Sunday, “I’ve made it clear that I’m not comfortable moving ahead with the vote on Thursday if we have not heard her side of the story or explored this further.”

“For me, we can’t vote until we hear more,” he said.

Feinstein, who is the ranking Democratic member on the committee, shared that view.

“I agree with Sen. Flake that we should delay this week’s vote,” she said. “There’s a lot of information we don’t know and the FBI should have the time it needs to investigate this new material.” (For more from the author of “Democrats Refuse to Participate in Phone Call With Kavanaugh” please click HERE)
