ICE as the Guard Against Dangerous Drunk Driving

It is not too much to ask that any illegal alien caught driving drunk be deported.

Those driving around drunk with thousands of pounds of steel, whether American or foreign national, pose a serious public safety threat. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 10,874 people were killed in 2017 in drunk driving crashes. Very few drunk drivers, including repeat offenders in many states, receive a meaningful punishment and are deterred. But when the offenders are foreign nationals, given that drunk driving is a frequently repeated offense, every subsequent offense, which could potentially kill other motorists and pedestrians, is 100 percent avoidable. Why should they remain in the country? But that is exactly what happens, thanks to sanctuary cities.

Which brings us to the case of Betsaida Sunem Moreno-Manriquez. The NBC affiliate in Portland, Oregon, wrote a puff piece on her as a “Cornelius mom” being deported by the big bad ICE guys, even though she was brought here when she was one year old. However, she is also a repeat-offender drunk driver.

According to a regional spokeswoman for ICE, Betsaida Sunem Moreno-Manriquez, a Mexican national who is here illegally, “pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants” on August 20, 2015. So why is she still in the country?

“On April 6, 2016, Moreno-Manriquez reported to the Portland U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office where she was arrested and transported to the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, Washington. On May 5, 2016, Moreno-Manriquez posted bond and was released from custody. On April 13, 2017, she failed to appear for her scheduled immigration court appearance and was ordered remov[ed] in absentia by an immigration judge.”

All too often, criminal aliens are allowed to remain in the country because they fail to appear for court dates and are released on bond. But it gets worse.

According to ICE, “On Aug. 4, 2018, Moreno-Manriquez was arrested by the Forest Grove Police Department on various local charges. Following that arrest, Moreno-Manriquez failed to appear at her scheduled court appearance for those charges and a warrant was issued for her arrest.” According to Washington County, Oregon, court records, Moreno-Manriquez was charged with giving false information to police and driving without a license. The bench warrant for her arrest was issued August 16, 2018.

Every day this woman remains in the country, she is a ticking time bomb. Yet because she is protected by Oregon’s sanctuary policies, ICE had to go find her on its own. According to the ICE spokeswoman, “On July 9, 2019, Morena-Manriquez was arrested by ICE in Hillsboro, Oregon, and is currently being held at the NWDC pending her removal to Mexico.”

The local NBC article quotes open-borders activists talking about second chances for DUIs and downplaying the severity of the crime. They make constant reference to separation of families, which has become the new political human shield against enforcing the laws against illegal aliens, even those who pose a danger to the country. Now they are trying to shame ICE into cancelling the deportation.

Pueblo Unido raises money and pays to send attorneys to Tacoma for consultation appointments with detainees facing deportation on a regular basis.

“How many people do you know who had a DUI who got a chance to get diversion and move on with their lives? And then how many were permanently separated from their families?” Pueblo Unido Executive Director and Founder Cameron Coval asked. “She’s right now fighting for her freedom and the opportunity to stay in this country with her children.”

But what about the Americans who are permanently separated from their children in the grave due to the daily DUI manslaughters by illegal aliens driving drunk? Just in one year of apprehensions with very limited resources, ICE arrested a pool of aliens who together racked up 80,730 DUIs, not including over 76,000 other driving offenses.

These stories go untold every day, as was the story of one mother, Aileen Smith, who related on my podcast last year her tragedy of losing her unborn child in an illegal alien drunk driving wreck. The illegal alien driver was arrested eight times for DUI and was never turned over to ICE, thanks to sanctuary policies in New Mexico. Aileen related how, unlike criminal aliens who get endless pro bono legal help and PR from open border groups, she was left with nothing and nobody to help her.

In June, Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, a criminal alien with a history of drug and driving violations who was allowed to remain in the country, went on to kill seven bikers in New Hampshire with his truck.

When the media shows you harrowing images of moms being arrested and “separated from their kids,” what they don’t show you is their decision to drive drunk and risk the lives of Americans. We have the ability to remove them before they can continue their frequently uncontrolled habit.

This case in Oregon is a perfect example of what ICE is up against. There are people who have been given due process over and over again, yet they chose to further break the law and not show up in court. Then when ICE decides to deport them, opponents act as if these people are angels and just committed low-level offenses. But the reality is that while we can’t choose our natural-born citizens and are stuck with what we get, we can choose our immigrants. And there are many wonderful immigrants who will never get arrested or drive drunk. Why do we need any criminal aliens in our country?

A sane GOP Senate would stay in session through the August recess and pass bills like the old Scott Gardner Act (H.R. 3808), sponsored by former Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., which would mandate that ICE apprehend all illegal aliens arrested for drunk driving. U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Backup Goalie Attacks Christian Player

After accusations rose against the U.S. women’s soccer team that the team had snubbed openly Christian and star player Jaelene Hinkle because of her faith, the backup goaltender for the team, Ashlyn Harris, ripped into Hinkle, saying that the problem is Hinkle’s “intolerance” and that Hinkle is “homophobic.”

Harris’ comments were prompted not by Hinkle, who has not commented on the uproar, but by Catholic advocate and staunch pro-life champion Obianuju Ekeocha, who tweeted on Sunday: “Jaelene Hinkle, is the 26-year-old American footballer who gave up the opportunity to be in the USWNT. I was very curious to know what happened so I went in search of her interview with CBN. Apparently, the US women’s Football team is not a very welcoming place for Christians.” . . .

Then Harris seemingly conflated Ekeocha’s statement with Hinkle’s perspective, writing, “Don’t you dare say our team is ‘not a welcoming place for Christians’. You weren’t around long enough to know what this team stood for. This is actually an insult to the Christians on our team. Same on you.”

Planned Parenthood President Removed from Office After Only 10 Months

While pro-life advocates have been successfully passing bills limiting abortion in various states across the country, Planned Parenthood on Tuesday removed the president of the organization, Dr. Leana Wen, who was named president only 10 months ago.

The New York Times reported, “The move came after hours of negotiations Tuesday between the board of directors and the president, Leana Wen, according to two people familiar with the decision … people familiar with the move said there had been internal strife over her management, and that the group felt it needed a more aggressive political leader to fight the efforts to roll back access to abortions.”

The new acting president was unanimously chosen by Planned Parenthood’s board on Tuesday: Alexis McGill Johnson, the co-founder of the Perception Institute, who will also serve as chief executive of both Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund. McGill Johnson released a statement that read, “I am proud to step in to serve as acting president and facilitate a smooth leadership transition in this critical moment for Planned Parenthood and the patients and communities we serve. I thank Dr. Wen for her service and her commitment to patients.”

Wen stated in an interview with The New York Times in May, “There are thousands of people who wake up every day thinking that their job is to take away everything that we stand for, to take away bodily autonomy, to take away the right to health care for millions of people who depend on us. A Member of AOC’s ‘Squad’ Just Made an Outrageously Bigoted Statement

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), now known as the Ringo Starr of the so-called “Squad,” is, like the other members of her far-left girl group, a raging bigot. While they go into spasms of outrage over President Trump’s stupid tweet, we must bear in mind that, when it comes to denouncing bigotry, none of these four have a leg to stand on — especially Pressley, who now proudly owns one of the most absurdly bigoted statements we’ve heard from an American politician in decades.

Speaking at a progressive political convention a few days ago, Pressley launched into a diatribe that would surely end her career if she belonged to a different political party or political movement. To the sound of exuberant applause, the new Ringo declared: “We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.”

Someone who is not well acquainted with liberal-speak may be more confused than horrified by these comments. What is a brown voice? What is a black voice? Do voices have colors? What she means is that a brown or black person should have opinions that are properly representative of their racial communities. And what she means by properly representative of their racial communities is that their opinions should be resoundingly liberal. Put more simply, Pressley is telling brown, black, Muslim, and gay people to keep their traps shut if they aren’t going to conform to her ideological expectations. “You’re not needed,” she emphasizes. Narrative-Busting Data: Every Income Group Got a Tax Cut in 2018…Except Millionaires

As data continues to pour in, the facts are once again affirming what many of us have known for quite some time: The GOP-passed tax reform law, which was opposed by every single Democrat in Congress, has reduced taxes for a lopsided supermajority of Americans. Despite a torrent of disinformation and false messaging from the collective Left, the overwhelming majority of US taxpayers saw their federal tax burden reduced in 2018. Even the New York Times fact-checked this claim and found the Democratic mantra to be inaccurate. Now, based on the latest available numbers from the IRS, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation confirms that the Left’s deceitful talking points aren’t just misleading — they’re actually the opposite of the truth:

Critics of the TCJA have claimed that the law’s tax cuts only benefit high-income individuals and businesses. However, the visual below shows that total tax liability fell for all income groups except those earning over $1 million in 2018…The initial data shows that the TCJA expanded the use of several credits and deductions, made the standard deduction more favorable than itemizing, reduced tax refunds, and lowered taxes for most Americans.

In every single group, the green bar is lower than the blue bar, including for working and middle-class Americans. Only the super rich, those making more than $1 million annually, have seen a very slight increase, on average. Compare that to the rhetoric surrounding the law. The gap between the political spin and the actual results is staggering. As many supporters of the law pointed out during the public debate, the reason this law would benefit so many Americans was that it doubles the standard deduction, which was already being used by a large majority of filers. As expected, the number of people choosing to take advantage of the increased standard deduction (as opposed to itemizing) has increased dramatically:

One of the most significant changes introduced by the TCJA was the expansion of the standard deduction. The standard deduction increased from $6,500 to $12,000 for single filers, and from $13,000 to $24,000 for those married filing jointly, in 2018. This change had a significant impact on the ease of filing for many taxpayers, as taking the standard deduction simplifies the tax filing process. As shown below, the percent of taxpayers who itemized went down at all income levels. Overall, the percentage of the population that itemizes decreased from 30 percent to 10 percent.

State Department Hosts World’s Largest Religious Freedom Event

Lead by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the State Department kicked off the world’s largest religious freedom event in Washington D.C. Tuesday morning at the second annual Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom. Hundreds of activists and diplomats from all over the globe will be in attendance this week.

“We’ve invited more than 100 foreign delegations, more than 1,000 representatives here. And I want to just be here as we kick this off today for a moment to say my personal welcome,” Pompeo said during his opening remarks. “We’ve got folks from civil society and from Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Falun Gong, and other secular backgrounds. We welcome you all. You all traveled from far corners, distant places around the world.”

The ministerial will take place over the course of three days and conclude on Thursday with a visit from Vice President Mike Pence.

“We all agree that fighting so that each person is free to believe, free to assemble, and to teach the tenets of his or her own faith is not optional – indeed, it is a moral imperative that this be permitted. All people from every place on the globe must be permitted to practice their faith openly – in their homes, in their places of worship, in the public square – and believe what they want to believe,” Pompeo continued. “This week, we need input from all of you on how we can best advance that religious freedom…I want you to know that America’s commitment to religious freedom will never waver. Trump Goes OFF on Freshman Congresswomen: Go and Fix Your Home Countries; Twitter Feud Causes Libs to go CRAZY

By Fox News. President Trump squared off with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and progressive freshman congresswomen Sunday on Twitter, telling the new lawmakers to “go back” to their countries of origin to fix the corruption plaguing those nations before they lecture the United States.

In the tweet, Trump referred to them as “‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen” whose home countries have been collapsing from corruption and said they should return home to aid those who are suffering. . .

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez flipped the script on Trump in her Twitter reply and blamed him for the corruption and lawlessness at the southern border, accusing him of purposely instilling fear while being driven by anger.

Meanwhile, Tlaib tweeted out a call for impeachment in response to Trump’s comments and said he represented the real crisis, not the immigration issues on the southern border.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is Puerto Rican, was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and raised in suburban Westchester County. Tlaib, who along with Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., became one of the first two Muslim women ever elected to Congress, was born in Detroit. AOC Unloads on Trump After He Tells Progressive Congresswomen to ‘Go Back’ to Home Countries

By Fox News. Rep. Ilhan Omar fired a heated broadside at President Trump — even making use of his own words — in the wake of his recent inflammatory tweets about the Minnesota Democrat and other progressive congresswomen.

Speaking during a news conference alongside Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Omar forcefully went after Trump.

Here’s What President Trump’s Tariffs Have Done to the Chinese Economy

The Chinese economy has suffered under President Trump’s tariffs so much that their growth rate has hit a historical low not seen for 27 years.

Trump has accused the government of the second largest economy in the world of unfair trade practices, and has hit the country with tariffs in order to pressure them into trade deals that more agreeable to the United States. . .

That trade dispute has led to the Chinese economic growth rate to drop to 6.2 percent in the second quarter, a rate not seen in China since 1992.

Some economists worry that the trade war between the two largest economies in the world may lead to a global recession, but that has not yet manifested itself in the U.S., which is experiencing an economic boom.

Free market critics of the populist use of tariffs as an economic policy say that they lead inexorably to trade wars which damage international production chains and harm all countries involved. They also point out that tariffs end up being another tax on consumers instead of the countries they are supposed to punish.

Officials Warn Against Dumping Drugs Down Toilets — for Fear of Creating ‘Meth-Gators’

Law enforcement officials are issuing a tongue-in-cheek warning to residents to avoid dumping any drugs down toilets — because they fear creating “meth-gators.” . . .

The outlet reported that a spokesperson for the Loretto Police Department in Tennessee said that they arrested the man — a purported drug dealer — and caught in him the act of allegedly dumping a bunch of methamphetamine down his toilet on Saturday. Authorities arrested the suspect and discovered 12 grams of meth, 24 fluid ounces of liquid meth, and several pieces of paraphernalia. . .

According to the outlet, a Facebook post from the Loretto Police Department read:

This Folks…please don’t flush your drugs m’kay (sic). When you send something down the sewer pipe it ends up in our retention ponds for processing before it is sent down stream. Now our sewer guys take great pride in releasing water that is cleaner than what is in the creek, but they are not really prepared for meth.

Ducks, Geese, and other fowl frequent our treatment ponds and we shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do. Furthermore, if it made it far enough we could create meth-gators in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River down in North Alabama. They’ve had enough methed up animals the past few weeks without our help. So, if you need to dispose of your drugs just give us a call and we will make sure they are disposed of in the proper way.
