Hunter Biden Cites Coronavirus, Wife’s Pregnancy to Avoid Deposition Until After Election Day

Hunter Biden’s attorneys have abruptly asked the Arkansas judge in his ongoing paternity case to postpone his scheduled March 11 deposition until after Election Day, saying the coronavirus outbreak, his wife’s “imminent due date” and “intense media scrutiny” all pose a risk of “personal endangerment” for the former vice president’s son.

Additionally, Biden’s legal team argues he should not be held in contempt for failing to turn over a slew of financial documents related to child support. Republicans have said the information could contain damaging evidence of the younger Biden’s overseas business dealings and possible corruption.

“Defendant’s wife’s due date is imminent,” Biden’s request for continuance reads. “Defendant will supplement this motion as soon as possible with an affidavit of his wife’s treating physician.”

Additionally, “it is unsafe for the Defendant to travel, as travel restrictions have been implemented both domestically and internationally, particularly on airlines, due to the Coronavirus. Setting aside personal endangerment, Defendant reasonably believes that such travel unnecessarily exposes his wife and unborn child to this virus.” . . .

As something of an olive branch, Biden’s team notes in its new motion that it “has no objection to entry of an order continuing the temporary support for another nine months and rescheduling the deposition and hearing at the end of that period” — this would be after the 2020 presidential election. Supreme Court Gives Trump Win by Allowing ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy to Continue

The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a win to President Trump on Wednesday by allowing his administration to enforce the “Remain in Mexico” asylum policy as litigation surrounding it continues.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had said a week earlier that it would block the policy in Arizona and California, the two border states where its authority extends. The Trump administration then turned to the Supreme Court for relief.

“The application for stay presented to Justice Kagan and by her referred to the Court is granted, and the district court’s April 8, 2019 order granting a preliminary injunction is stayed pending the timely filing and disposition of a petition for a writ of certiorari,” the Supreme Court said in an order, which noted that Justice Sonia Sotomayor opposed the Trump administration’s stay application.

The high court action came a day before the lower court order was to have taken effect. Instead, the “Remain in Mexico” policy will remain in force while a lawsuit challenging it plays out in the courts.

The Justice Department responded Wednesday by saying the high court’s order restores “the government’s ability to manage the Southwest border and to work cooperatively with the Mexican government to address illegal immigration.” (Read more from “Supreme Court Gives Trump Win by Allowing ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy to Continue” HERE)

Gun Sales Surge for Asian Americans Fearing Attacks Over Coronavirus; How to Prepare and Stock up for the Coronavirus Pandemic

By Breitbart. California gun sales are surging as Asian Americans arm up to defend themselves, should they be targeted by people angry over the existence of the Corona virus.

CBS LA reports that gun stores in San Gabriel Valley are seeing gun sales skyrocket. Stores such as Arcadia Firearm & Safety are seeing “10 times” as many customers as usual, and store owner David Liu says it is because of fears caused by the Corona virus.

He said, “Because of Corona virus, a lot of people start to worry.” But he added, “If you’re prepared, you’re not afraid.”

The area is home to a large population of Asian Americans, many of whom are now seeking a firearm in order to be able to defend themselves in the event of an attack. (Read more from “Gun Sales Surge for Asian Americans Fearing Attacks Over Coronavirus” HERE)

How to Prepare and Stock up for the Coronavirus Pandemic

By New York Post. Stocking up on pain and fever relievers, prescription drugs, electrolytes and food are the most prudent ways to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic, health officials say.

People should not panic, but if the potentially deadly illness — which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) Wednesday — lands you in quarantine, it is well-advised to have a sensible supply of food, water and essentials.

“Store a two-week supply of water and food,” the US Department of Homeland Security’s emergencies and disaster prep site, ready.gov advises, and “check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.”

The site also recommends topping up nonprescription drugs such as pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins.

In addition, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is encouraging people to identify household members who may be at greater risk for serious complications — such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions — and pay particular care in monitoring them for symptoms of the infection. Report: Connecticut Woman Sparks Deadly Fire Using Hand Sanitizer as Molotov Cocktail

Destiny Waite allegedly set fire to her Hartford, Connecticut, apartment building on Monday using a “molotov cocktail” fueled by hand sanitizer.

The 28-year-old responded to a “domestic verbal and physical altercation” with her girlfriend by igniting a bottle of hand sanitizer and throwing it at her. The fire sparked by that bottle spread throughout the building, critically injuring four people — two adults and two children — and killing 50-year-old Jerome Kyser. Thirty residents were hospitalized.

The Hartford Fire Department responded within just one minute of the 1:22 a.m. emergency report, said Assistant Fire Chief Rodney Barco. When they arrived, building residents were already “hanging out the windows.” In less than five minutes, the blaze escalated to a three-alarm fire — meaning that at least three separate fire departments responded.

Responders then faced an almost impossible task. Amid reports of multiple people trapped inside, both the shape of the building and heavy smoke made “fighting the fire very difficult.” (Read more from “Report: Connecticut Woman Sparks Deadly Fire Using Hand Sanitizer as Molotov Cocktail” HERE)

Israeli-Made Oral Vaccine for Coronavirus on Track, but Testing Will Take Months

An effective Israeli-developed vaccine for coronavirus is on track to be ready for testing within “a few weeks,” though it won’t be available for months because of the lengthy and sometimes bureaucratic testing and approval process, a member of the development team said Tuesday.

Chen Katz told The Times of Israel that the new oral vaccine for adults and children could “turn this disease into a very mild cold.” He said that for many people who are inoculated and then infected by COVID-19, “potentially it will not affect them at all.”

The rapid potential progress by the state-funded Migal Galilee Research Institute stems from the fact that the institute has been working for four years toward a vaccine that could be customized for various viruses, and has now adapted that work to focus on the coronavirus, he said.

Nonetheless, while Israel’s science ministry made headlines last week by touting the institute’s work and saying that its vaccine could be three months away, Dr. Asher Shalmon, the Health Ministry’s director of international relations, has warned against placing “false hopes” in it.

The vaccine will consist of a specially produced protein, and Katz said he expects to be clutching a bottle of it within “a few weeks.” But then comes clinical testing, which will take place in conjunction with a partner, and the paperwork, both of which will take time. Why Women Live Longer Than Men: Science Has the Answer Now

It is a known fact that women live longer than men, irrespective of the place they are born or choose to spend their life. Scientists have long wondered the reason and now it looks like they have come real close to the cause.

The researchers from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) claim that the secret may lie in the second X chromosome, present in females. . .

The study, conducted on mice, showed that females live longer than males and that XX largely governs this trait in ageing mice. . .

The Y chromosome, present only in males, contains very few genes other than those that create secondary sex characteristics, like male genitals and facial hair, and it is not necessary for survival.

Further, having XX ovaries enabled mice to live longer, beginning at 21 months, which is toward the end of a normal mouse lifespan. (Read more from “Why Women Live Longer Than Men: Science Has the Answer Now” HERE)

Maxine Waters: ‘I Don’t Know’ If Biden Has What It Takes to Beat Trump

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, said Tuesday she doesn’t know if Joe Biden has what it takes to defeat President Trump and declined to share her opinion of the former vice president’s fitness for office.

Waters was asked if she is supporting Biden or Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Democratic presidential primary.

“It’s not about who you like,” Waters told Just the News on Capitol Hill ahead of Tuesday’s presidential primaries. “It’s about now watching and understanding who can beat Trump.”

Asked if Biden could beat Trump, she replied, “I don’t know, but we’ll see.”

President Trump has criticized Biden’s gaffes on the campaign trail. Asked if she thinks Biden has the fitness for office given his gaffes, Waters wheeled instead on the president. (Read more from “Maxine Waters: ‘I Don’t Know’ If Biden Has What It Takes to Beat Trump” HERE)

U.S. and Coalition Troops Killed in Rocket Attack in Iraq

Two Americans and one other coalition member were killed in a rocket attack on a base in Iraq on Wednesday night, a U.S. military spokesman said, potentially spiking tensions with Iran about two months after a series of bloody events that were capped by the death of an Iranian general in a U.S. drone strike.

At least 12 people were wounded in the attack at Camp Taji, about 17 miles north of Baghdad, according to the spokesman, Navy Capt. Bill Urban. About 18 Katyusha rockets hit the base, and five of the wounded were evacuated in serious condition, Urban said.

The rockets were launched from the Rashediya area of northeast Baghdad, Iraqi military officials said in a statement. Iraqi forces found a truck rigged with rockets a few miles away from the base, the U.S. military said in a statement.

U.S. officials have attributed the use of such rockets in attacks to Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, prompting questions how the United States and its allies might respond. (Read more from “U.S. and Coalition Troops Killed in Rocket Attack in Iraq” HERE)

Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison

The sentence was handed down by Judge James Burke on Wednesday morning, after emotional testimony by the two primary victims in the conviction.

Harvey Weinstein will spend 23 years in a New York State prison after being sentenced by Supreme Court Judge James Burke on Wednesday morning. . .

The sentencing ends Weinstein’s New York trial, which began Jan. 6. His team has said they will appeal the jury’s decision to convict him on two of the five charges he faced.

Judge Burke, before issuing his sentence, told Weinstein that he will be formally registered as a sex offender.

For his conviction on the first-degree count of criminal sexual act, Weinstein was given 20 years in prison plus five years of supervised release. On the other convicted charge, third-degree rape, he was given three years in prison. (Read more from “Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison” HERE)
