The Supreme Court of the United States denied certiorari Monday in a case that threatened to chip away at marriage equality. The Court’s denial will disallow Indiana’s effort to discriminate against same-sex couples, and will continue to preserve the meaning of Obergefell v. Hodges.

Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill (R) took the position in Box v. Henderson that same-sex spouses should not have the same rights to be listed on state-issued birth certificates as opposite-sex spouses. The case arose as the result of several lesbian couples who conceived via artificial insemination; Indiana refused to list birth mothers’ wives on their children’s official birth certificates, but regularly listed birth mothers’ husbands on birth certificates without additional requirement. . .

By the time Indiana appealed its loss at the Seventh Circuit, SCOTUS would include Justice Amy Coney Barrett, and many court-watchers wondered whether the change to the bench would result in the Court’s eroding its landmark decision in Obergefell v. Hodges to allow the discrimination Indiana sought to conduct.

Forensic Report: Dominion Software Intentionally Designed to Influence Election Results

A forensic audit of Dominion Voting Systems machines and software in Michigan showed that they were designed to create fraud and influence election results, a data firm said Monday.

“We conclude that the Dominion Voting System is intentionally and purposefully designed with inherent errors to create systemic fraud and influence election results,” Russell Ramsland Jr., co-founder of Allied Security Operations Group, said in a preliminary report.

“The system intentionally generates an enormously high number of ballot errors. The electronic ballots are then transferred for adjudication. The intentional errors lead to bulk adjudication of ballots with no oversight, no transparency, and no audit trail. This leads to voter or election fraud. Based on our study, we conclude that The Dominion Voting System should not be used in Michigan. We further conclude that the results of Antrim County should not have been certified,” he added.

Ramsland, a former Reagan administration official who has worked for NASA, and others from the group examined Dominion products in Antrim County earlier this month as part of an ongoing case.

The team inspected and performed forensic duplication on the county’s election management server, which was running Dominion Democracy Suite 5.5.3-002, compact flash cards used by local precincts in their Dominion ImageCast system, USB memory sticks used by Dominion Voter Assist Terminals, and USB memory sticks used for the poll book. They used X-Ways Forensics and other tools including Blackbag-Blacklight Forensic Software, and Virtual Box. SICKENING FOOTAGE: 4 Trump Supporters Stabbed By Antifa, Counter-Protestor Shot at Election Protests

By Forbes. Rallies were staged across the country Saturday in support of President Trump’s campaign to overturn the election following a crushing Supreme Court loss, with at least two devolving into violent clashes with counter-protesters that left eight hospitalized and dozens arrested.

Thousands of the president’s supporters, including members of militia groups, gathered in cities big and small, rallying outside the capitals of Washington state, Georgia and in the nation’s capital, as well as in smaller towns like the Mobile, Alabama suburb Spanish Fort, where roughly 100 pro-Trump protesters showed up in support of the national “Stop the Steal” movement.

In Olympia, Washington, a counter-protester was shot during scuffles between two opposing groups of protesters, leading police to declare it a riot (Washington State Patrol told The New York Times that two people were in custody in connection with the shooting, but did not respond to questions from Forbes about the condition of the person shot). Mayhem in Washington, DC, as Trump Supporters, Opponents Clash; At Least 4 Stabbed, 23 Arrested

By Fox News. Chaos erupted in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night, hours after two pro-Trump rallies ended. Groups of Proud Boys and Antifa activists clashed under cover of darkness, with police repeatedly forcing them apart amid reports of brawls and stabbings.

At least four stabbings occurred near a bar that served as a gathering spot for the Proud Boys, according to the Washington Post. The victims were hospitalized, possibly with life-threatening injuries, a D.C. Fire Department spokesman told the newspaper.

U.S. Blames Iran in Abduction, Death of Ex-FBI Agent Levinson

The Trump administration for the first time on Monday formally blamed Iran for the presumed death of retired FBI agent Robert Levinson, publicly identifying two Iranian intelligence officers believed responsible for his abduction and imposing sanctions against them.

Levinson disappeared in Iran under mysterious circumstances more than a decade ago, and though U.S. diplomats and investigators have long said they thought he was taken by Iranian government agents, Monday’s announcement in the final weeks of the Trump administration was the most definitive assignment of blame to date.

Besides blaming two high-ranking intelligence officers by name, U.S. officials also said the Iranian regime sanctioned the plot that led to Levinson’s abduction and lied for years about its involvement in his disappearance through disinformation campaigns aimed at deflecting responsibility and covering up the government’s role.

U.S. Vows ‘Swift Action’ if Defense Networks Hit by Alleged Russia Hack

The U.S. military’s cyberwarfare branch has promised a quick response if the nation’s defense networks were found to have been infiltrated in a major hack that has rocked the federal government.

As of Monday afternoon, the Department of Commerce and the Department of the Treasury have acknowledged that their communications were affected by a yet unidentified perpetrator exploiting a vulnerability in an update to Orion products offered by software company SolarWinds. A third agency, the Department of Homeland Security, is also believed to have been affected, according to Reuters.

The full extent of the breach has yet to be identified, but SolarWinds’ extensive customer list includes a range of other U.S. government agencies, including all five branches of the military. Contacted by Newsweek, the Defense Department’s cyber-focused combatant command said it was prepared to act immediately if its communications were determined to have been impacted.

“U.S. Cyber Command is postured for swift action should any defense networks be compromised,” a spokesperson for the command told Newsweek. “We are in close coordination with our interagency, coalition, industry, and academic partners to assess and mitigate this issue. Mind-Blowing Push: ‘Every’ Child Should Have Puberty Blockers

Reacting to the U.K. Supreme Court’s ruling that children can’t give informed consent to be put on “sex-change” drugs, a transgender activist is offering a radical solution.

Put all children on puberty blockers, tweeted YouTuber Zinnia Jones, also known as Lauren McNamara.

“If children can’t consent to puberty blockers which pause any permanent changes even with the relevant professional evaluation, how can they consent to the permanent and irreversible changes that come with their own puberty with no professional evaluation whatsoever?” she wrote.

Zinnia, who identifies herself as “adult demon female,” said an “inability to offer informed consent or understand the long-term consequences is actually an argument for putting every single cis and trans person on puberty blockers until they acquire that ability.” . . .

“For the record, I understand that y’all just aren’t capable of wrapping your heads around something like this, because if you could, then you wouldn’t be the way you are. It’s probably best to step away and have a juice box, this is beyond your level. Cell-Phone Cameras Can Detect Coronavirus? Scientists Explain How It’s Possible

The demand for testing during the coronavirus pandemic has put a strain on medical centers around the world. As scientists work to simplify the process, a team in California has come up with a way to spot the virus using an ordinary cell phone camera. Using a special device attached to a regular smartphone, researchers say they can accurately test nasal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 — the virus causing COVID-19.

“Our study shows that we can do the detection part of this assay very quickly, making the measurement with mass-produced consumer electronics,” says Daniel Fletcher, a bioengineer at the University of California-Berkeley, in a media release. “We don’t need fancy laboratory equipment.” . . .

The study focused on testing the detector’s ability to work without needing gene amplification like the standard PCR tests do. For this reason, researchers spiked the nasal swabs with SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The team is now working on a solution that induces the same fluorescence from the virus even without a pure sample of it. Study authors say the fact their device doesn’t need the same amplification means the assay can quantify just how much of the virus is in a sample. . .

Believe it or not, the technology in your smartphone is likely better than some of the tools currently helping to detect COVID-19. Researchers say their fluorescence detector uses a laser to create the illumination and lens to collect light. After that, a standard phone is placed on top of the device.

Attorney General William Barr is resigning, confirming speculation that he would leave his top cabinet post amid mounting criticism of his performance from President Trump.

Trump tweeted a copy of Barr’s resignation letter saying he will depart his job on Dec. 23. “I will spend the next week wrapping up a few remaining matters important to the Administration,” Barr wrote, in a letter that largely praised Trump.

Ghislaine Maxwell and Her Husband Offer $28.5 Million Bail Package

Jeffrey Epstein’s accused madam Ghislaine Maxwell has proposed a $28.5 million bail package — that represents all of her and her husband’s assets — in a desperate bid to spring her from federal lockup, according to a new motion unsealed Monday.

The suggested package is “exceptional in its scope and puts at risk everything that Ms. Maxwell has — all of her and her spouse’s assets, her family’s livelihood, and the financial security of her closest friends and family — if she were to flee, which she has no intention of doing,” wrote her lawyer Mark Cohen.

Although her spouse’s name is redacted from the documents, his identity has been widely reported as tech CEO Scott Borgerson.

The package is composed of a $22.5 million bond co-signed by her and her husband, according to the motion that was filed under seal on Dec. 4.
