GOP Senator: Big Tech ‘Aiding and Abetting’ China’s Push for ‘Global Dominance’

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday that big tech is “aiding and abetting” China’s mission for “global dominance.”

“China and big tech, they have a cozy relationship,” Blackburn said. “And they have been allowing the Chinese Communist Party to spew all of their information. I can’t find anywhere they’ve been censored or blocked or banned.”

“Big tech is aiding and abetting the Chinese Communist Party in their push for global dominance, and we are going to have to stand against it,” she added. . .

“This is what we will tell big tech: ‘you cannot track, follow, listen, data mine, or share your information, your information with a third party without getting your explicit consent,’” she said. “It is your privacy.” (Read more from “GOP Senator: Big Tech ‘Aiding and Abetting’ China’s Push for ‘Global Dominance’” HERE)

Leaked Report: Border Officials Project 13,000 Unaccompanied Child Migrants in May

A Customs and Border Protection staffer told top administration officials Thursday the agency is projecting a peak of 13,000 unaccompanied children crossing the border in May, sources directly familiar with the discussion told Axios.

That projection would exceed the height of the 2019 crisis, which led to the infamous “kids-in-cages” disaster. It also underscores a rapidly escalating crisis for the Biden administration. . .

The administration is already preparing to quickly expand its network of migrant-child shelters, which have had their capacity sharply reduced because of coronavirus protocols. . .

HHS, which oversees the child shelter network, is talking with the Pentagon about finding additional overflow sites, which often resemble big tents. Military bases were used during the 2014 and 2019 crises as additional temporary facilities. Ted Cruz Jokes About Cancun Trip at CPAC

Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday joked about his controversial trip to Cancun and bellowed “Freedom!” in a homage to “Braveheart” during a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

The Texas Republican’s speech began with a joke about his travel to Mexico last week after his constituents lost heat and electricity due to frigid temperatures impacting energy production.

“God bless CPAC,” the Texas senator began, “I’ve gotta say, Orlando is awesome. It’s not as nice as Cancun, but it’s nice.”

The remark was met with laughs and gasps from the crowd.

The CPAC event, which was moved from Washington, DC, to Orlando, Fla., due to coronavirus restrictions, kicked off Friday morning with remarks from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. (Read more from “Ted Cruz Jokes About Cancun Trip at CPAC” HERE)

Princeton President Claims ‘False Ideas’ Are ‘Inconsistent’ With Values, Then Spreads ‘Very Fine People’ Hoax

Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber said in his annual State of the University letter that “false ideas” are “inconsistent” with the university’s core values. In his letter, however, Eisgruber goes on to spread the infamous “very fine people” hoax about former President Donald Trump.

“I am a passionate defender of free speech,” wrote Eisgruber in his letter, before going on to explain that the university’s core value is “truth-seeking, not free speech per se,” adding that “false ideas” are “inconsistent with scholarly ideals.”

“The reckless expression of offensive or false ideas may be protected speech, but it is utterly inconsistent with scholarly ideals,” added Eisgruber. “It corrodes, rather than serves, the cause of truth-seeking.”

Ironically, however, the university president goes on in his letter to spread the “very fine people” hoax, which many on the political left have regurgitated in order to spread the false narrative that President Trump defended the white nationalists in Charlottesville in 2017.

“One of the lowest points of Donald Trump’s presidency, for example, was his disgraceful statement that there were ‘very fine people on both sides’ when white nationalists and Nazis marched on the University of Virginia’s campus,” wrote Eisgruber. New York Senator Gives Cuomo a Pass on Sexual Harassment Allegations

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is giving her state’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, a pass on recent allegations of sexual harassment. Cuomo is accused, in graphic detail, of workplace harassment by a former aide. Lindsey Boylan, a former staffer to Cuomo, detailed unwanted sexual advances and harassment at work by the Democratic governor.

Gillibrand led the charge to oust former Democratic Senator Al Franken (D-MN) in 2017, after the former lawmaker was accused of sexual harassment by a host of women. . .

Gillibrand was the first in the Senate Democratic caucus to call for Franken’s resignation, but appears to be unconcerned with allegations of misconduct committed by her state’s governor. She said that an investigation was under the jurisdiction of the state legislature, but did not endorse the launch of such a probe. Wokeness Comes to the Cookie Aisle

The debate over the radical Equality Act played out in the halls of Congress, on social media, and in the cookie aisle apparently. . .

Not to be left out, the Nabisco cookie brand jumped in the debate, noting on Twitter that “Trans people exist.”

Biden’s COVID Relief Bill Is Chock Full of Anti-White Reverse Racism

By New York Post. Polls show most Americans support the federal COVID-19 relief bill. But if they knew what’s in it, they might feel differently. The bill is an affront to the American ideal of equal treatment under law — and a slap in the face for people who want everyone helped fairly.

Section 1005 of the bill offers “socially disadvantaged” farm owners total debt forgiveness of up to hundreds of thousands of no-strings dollars per farmer. But white men needn’t apply. The bill’s definition of “socially disadvantaged,” drawn from elsewhere in federal law, limits aid to racial groups who faced historic discrimination.

Newly elected Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), who proposed the measure, says it will make up for years of discrimination. Sorry, senator, but this is discrimination.

Discrimination likewise mars the bill’s aid to restaurants. It grants restaurant owners up to $5 million per facility to offset losses caused by lockdowns. That’s a lifeline for restaurants barely hanging on.

Here’s the hitch: Only women, veterans and owners of “socially and economically disadvantaged” concerns (again, defined racially elsewhere in federal law) may apply during the program’s first three weeks. Most white males go to the back of the line, even if their needs are more pressing. (Read more from “Biden’s COVID Relief Bill Is Chock Full of Anti-White Reverse Racism” HERE)

House To Vote on $1.9 Trillion COVID Relief Bill This Week as Senate Considers Minimum Wage Hike

By CBS News. The House is expected to approve President Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal later this week in a party-line vote, after the House Budget Committee advanced the bill on Monday. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced Tuesday evening that the House would vote on the legislation on Friday.

Although the narrow Democratic majority in the House will likely pass the bill as is, it’s unclear whether a provision raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025 will be included in the final Senate version of the legislation.

The bill, which includes $1,400 in direct payments to Americans making under $75,000, extra money for vaccine distribution and funding to state and local governments, was approved by the Budget Committee on Monday by a vote of 19 to 16. Congressman Lloyd Doggett was the sole Democrat to join Republicans in voting against the bill, although a spokesperson for Doggett later said in a statement that his “no” vote was a mistake and he “supports the COVID-19 relief legislation.” (Read more from “House To Vote on $1.9 Trillion COVID Relief Bill This Week as Senate Considers Minimum Wage Hike” HERE)

Mitch McConnell Would ‘Absolutely’ Support Trump if He Won GOP’s 2024 Nomination

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he would “absolutely” support former President Donald Trump if he won the GOP’s party nomination in 2024.

McConnell went on Fox News’ “Special Report With Bret Baier” Thursday evening and hinted that some Republicans are already thinking of running for commander-in-chief. . .

Baier then asked McConnell if would support Trump if he were to win the party’s nomination for the next presidential election.

“The nominee of the party? Absolutely,” the Kentucky Republican replied. (Read more from “Mitch McConnell Would ‘Absolutely’ Support Trump if He Won GOP’s 2024 Nomination” HERE)

U.S. Strikes Facilities in Syria Used by Iran-Backed Militia in Retaliatory Action

The United States launched airstrikes in Syria on Thursday, targeting facilities near the Iraqi border used by militia groups backed by the Iranian regime. The Pentagon said the strikes were retaliation for a rocket attack in Iraq earlier this month that killed one civilian contractor and wounded a U.S. service member and other coalition troops.

The airstrike was the first military action undertaken by the Biden administration, which in its first weeks has emphasized its intent to put more focus on the challenges posed by China’s communist party.

“This proportionate military response was conducted together with diplomatic measures, including consultation with coalition partners,” the Pentagon’s chief spokesperson, John Kirby, said in announcing the strikes.

“The operation sends an unambiguous message: President Biden will act to protect American and coalition personnel. At the same time, we have acted in a deliberate manner that aims to deescalate the overall situation in eastern Syria and Iraq.”

Kirby said the U.S. airstrikes “destroyed multiple facilities at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups.” (Read more from “U.S. Strikes Facilities in Syria Used by Iran-Backed Militia in Retaliatory Action” HERE)

Potential Biden NASA Pick Has Ties to Chinese Company Blacklisted by Pentagon

President Joe Biden’s potential pick to lead NASA has a history of investments tied to a Chinese technology giant and has advocated for cooperating with China in space.

Former senator Bill Nelson (D., Fla.) is reportedly jockeying to lead America’s space agency under Biden. Sources close to Nelson say that his closed-door campaign for the position is more than a rumor. As a former career astronaut, Nelson would seem a natural to lead the agency, but Nelson’s financial and political ties to China could complicate his potential confirmation.

Sen. Rick Scott (R., Fla.) criticized Nelson on the campaign trail for holding between $3,003 and $45,000 in a mutual fund invested in China Mobile, a Chinese state-owned telecommunications company. At the time, Nelson dismissed the revelation as unimportant compared with Scott’s own investments. China Mobile is China’s largest telecommunications provider, and the Department of Defense in November blacklisted the company, along with 19 other major Chinese companies, for its ties to the Chinese military. Adjacent state-owned Chinese businesses have developed 5G satellite technology that NASA may need to make note of in its daily operations. . .

Beyond financial interests, Nelson touts a long track record of championing closer ties with China in space. In 2004, Nelson met with both the Chinese ambassador and Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei in an intimate meeting to discuss space issues and the potential for Sino-American cooperation in space. Nelson was among the first Americans to congratulate Yang on his successful launch, saying that he hoped China could emerge as a key partner in American space initiatives, while some Republicans remained troubled by China’s growing space ambitions. Nelson told the Chinese ambassador that he wanted closer ties with Beijing in space efforts, even going as far as supporting a joint mission to Mars with China in their 2004 meeting.
