Highly Contagious COVID Variant Spreading Rapidly in the U.S.

The highly contagious COVID-19 variant that first emerged in India is spreading at a rapid rate in the US — and now makes up 7 percent of new cases, data shows.

The dramatic rise of the B.1.617.2 variant comes after it accounted for only 1 percent of new cases stateside at the start of May, according to a report from Outbreak.info.

The data revealed that the variant, which experts suspect is 60 percent more transmissible, reached its high of 7 percent of samples sequenced on May 26.

School Sued After Suspending Teacher for Opposing Transgender Activism

A school district in Virginia that suspended a teacher after he objected to orders to call boys by feminine pronouns, and vice versa, has been sued because its politically correct agenda appears to violate the law.

The lawsuit against the Loudoun County Public Schools was announced Tuesday by the Alliance Defending Freedom.

Teacher Byron Tanner Cross has taught at Leesburg Elementary School for several years, but was suspended after he exercised his First Amendment rights to comment on the proposed school policies at a school board meeting.

The policies at issue “would force teachers to violate their conscience as educators and their deeply held beliefs by requiring them to address students with their chosen pronouns rather than the ones consistent with their biological sex,” the legal team argues.

“Public schools have no business compelling teachers to express ideological beliefs that they don’t hold, nor do they have the right to suspend someone simply for respectfully providing their opinion at a public meeting,” said Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer. ‘Chilling’: Senator Threatens Supremes if They Don’t Vote His Way on Abortion

Now a second Democratic senator has threatened the U.S. Supreme Court if its justices don’t vote the way he wants on abortion.

Previously during President’s Trump term in office, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., infamously shouted his threat to Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch during a pro-abortion protest in which he participated at the court.

“I want to tell you Gorsuch! And I want to tell you Kavanaugh! You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions,” Schumer said, earning a rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts, who warned, “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous.”

Now it is Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who told The Hill that if the justices do not vote the way he wants on abortion:

“It will inevitably fuel and drive an effort to expand the Supreme Court if this activist majority betrays fundamental constitutional principles. It’s already driving that movement. Chipping away at Roe v. Wade will precipitate a seismic movement to reform the Supreme Court. Actor Chris Pratt shared a powerful Memorial Day sentiment about our country, its detractors, and those who have given their lives so that we have the right to complain.

Pratt shared images on Instagram of fallen U.S. veterans being mourned by their loved ones, originally posted by veteran and former MMA fighter Tim Kennedy.

Pratt detailed all of the good that American servicemen and women have accomplished throughout history, “From the Union Army defeating slave owning confederates, to the Greatest Generation and her Allies vanquishing the Nazis or our special operators hunting down the perpetrators of 9/11,” while praising the bravery and sacrifice those who have suffered and died for those causes. . .

Biden To Cancel Oil and Gas Leases in Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

The Biden White House plans to cancel all oil and gas leases in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge until a further review of their environmental impacts are assessed, according to the New York Times Tuesday.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the paper reported citing two insiders familiar with the administration’s plans, will publish an order to formally rescind existing leases months after the new president mounted a White House crusade against fossil fuels on day one with moratoriums on new drilling in the Arctic and other federal lands.

Marcella Burke, an attorney who specializes in energy policy and is an alum of the Trump Interior Department told The Times the move to halt drilling in the more than 19 million-acre refuge was far from unexpected. . .

President Donald Trump opened the Arctic Refuge’s coastal plain, a nearly 1.6 million-acre stretch on Alaska’s north coast for oil and gas development in 2017 in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski wrote the language of the legislation to green-light projects now effectively canceled by the Biden White House.
