Where’d You Go, Joe? AWOL Biden Plans Getaway as Afghanistan Burns; Afghans in Taliban Crosshairs Plead For US to Stay; Americans and Afghans Brace for Siege of Kabul

By New York Post. Republican leaders are slamming President Biden for taking a long weekend out of the public eye as major cities fall to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Biden on Thursday sent 3,000 US troops to Kabul to evacuate embassy workers as the Taliban seized Herat and Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second- and third-largest cities — but he hasn’t commented publicly on the crisis since Tuesday.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Friday that Biden “must immediately focus all efforts on making sure there is a plan to safely extract all American service members and civilians still remaining in Afghanistan.”

“He also owes the American public an answer on what he plans to do to make sure the region doesn’t turn into a breeding ground for more violent extremism that will lead to large-scale global attacks of terrorism,” McCarthy said.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) told The Post, “this strategy of putting your head in the sand and not taking questions is a way to not get associated with his military debacle.” (Read more from “Where’d You Go, Joe? AWOL Biden Plans Getaway as Afghanistan Burns” HERE)

Afghans in Taliban Crosshairs Want US to Stay and Protect Them

By New York Post. . . As of Friday, the Afghan government only controlled two other major cities, Kabul and Jalalabad. . .

“The Taliban is all around Mazar,” said a shopkeeper named Shamsula who appeared far more weathered than his 35 years. . .

He added: “But if America stays here, life would be good.”

Asif, 23, echoed that sentiment.

“We want very much for the US to stay,” he said in soft, halting English. (Read more from “Afghans in Taliban Crosshairs Want US to Stay and Protect Them” HERE)

Americans and Afghans Brace for Siege of Kabul

By TIME. As Taliban militants wrest control of Afghanistan by seizing one major city after another, Afghan leaders are scrambling to develop a strategy to defend the capital from the militants, while U.S. officials are taking steps to evacuate the sprawling U.S. Embassy in the center of the city, should Kabul fall.

Just as the U.S. deadline to withdraw from the country approaches on Aug. 31, Afghan forces have collapsed on nearly all fronts in the face of an eight-day blitz mounted by Taliban attacking cities in the north, east and south. The insurgents have captured more than a dozen provincial capitals, resulting in more than two-thirds of the country falling into their hands.

In a rare call on Thursday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani sought guarantees from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that American warplanes would provide air strikes against the insurgents to protect Kabul, current and former Afghan officials tell TIME. The same day, the Pentagon announced plans to send about 3,000 U.S. troops back into the city to help evacuate the American embassy and Afghan civilians who helped with the U.S.-led war effort.

The Biden Administration has thus far only committed to a limited air campaign supporting Afghan forces battling the insurgency. But U.S. officials say there will be U.S. air cover in support of the thousands of newly announced American troops heading to Kabul to complete U.S. military withdrawal. Trump-Appointed Amy Coney Barrett Refuses to Block COVID Vaccine Mandate

Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett on Thursday refused to block a plan by Indiana University to require students and employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Barrett’s action came in response to an emergency request from eight students, and it marked the first time the high court has weighed in on a vaccine mandate. Some corporations, states and cities have adopted vaccine requirements for workers or even to dine indoors, and others are considering doing so.

The students said in court papers that they have “a constitutional right to bodily integrity, autonomy, and of medical treatment choice in the context of a vaccination mandate.” They wanted the high court to issue an order barring the university from enforcing the mandate. Seven of the students qualify for a religious exemption. (Read more from “Trump-Appointed Amy Coney Barrett Refuses to Block COVID Vaccine Mandate” HERE)

Impeach Joe Biden Calls Grow After Taliban Seize Power in Afghanistan; Biden Takes No Questions After Speech Defending Afghanistan Disaster

By Newsweek. Calls to impeach U.S. President Joe Biden have grown on social media following the withdrawal of most of the U.S. military from Afghanistan and President Ashraf Ghani ceding power to the Taliban. . .

Amy Tarkanian, former Nevada GOP chairwoman, tweeted that Biden could not remain “Commander In Chief” after the weekend’s events in Afghanistan.

“The Cabinet should immediately invoke the 25th Amendment. If they won’t do that, the Congress should move to impeach him. Him remaining as our Commander In Chief is a national security threat,” Tarkanian said.

Jerome Bell, a Trump-supporting Republican who is running for Congress in Virginia’s Congressional District, tweeted with a screenshot alleging that Biden lied about military intelligence on Afghanistan. The military intelligence allegedly informed him that for the months leading up to the U.S. withdrawal the Afghan army was surrendering in their “hundreds, sometimes thousands all over the country” to the Taliban. Biden said in a July 8 press conference that the Afghanistan military was capable of subverting the Taliban. Joe Biden Headed Back to Camp David to Resume His Vacation After Afghanistan Speech

By Breitbart. President Joe Biden will return to Camp David on Monday evening to resume his vacation after returning to the White House for a few hours to deliver a speech defending his handling of the troop withdrawals from Afghanistan.

The White House released an updated schedule for the president, confirming he would return to Camp David, where he was scheduled to vacation until Wednesday.

In his speech, Biden tried to emphasize the importance of ending the American-supported conflict in Afghanistan but failed to accept his incompetent execution of the troop withdrawals.

“I am president of the United States and the buck stops with me,” he said. “I’m deeply saddened by the facts we now face but I do not regret my decision to end America’s warfighting in Afghanistan.”

But the president did not take questions from reporters about his failure in Afghanistan, as thousands of Americans remain stranded in the country. (Read more from “Joe Biden Headed Back to Camp David to Resume His Vacation After Afghanistan Speech” HERE)

Here Are Some of the Wildest COVID-19 Vaccine Incentives Thus Far

State leaders introduced a variety of creative incentives to promote the coronavirus vaccine, including material goods, cash, travel perks, free food, drinks, and even weed — but some experts are unsure that this approach works.

The most common incentives have been cash handouts through the entrance in a lottery system, visa debit cards, or college tuition credits, according to a July report from the National Governors Association (NGA).

Some states have offered free entrance into state parks, fishing and wildlife licenses, travel miles and hotel points, or tickets to professional sporting events and adventure parks, according to the NGA. . .

President Joe Biden asked state, local, and U.S. territorial governments in July to issue $100 payments to every American who receives the first shot of the coronavirus vaccine, according to Reuters. The funds would come out of the $350 billion available in the American Rescue Plan Act, the Treasury Department said in a statement on July 29.

The Treasury Department will also give employers the option to claim tax credits for wages paid to workers who take time off to get the shot or care for a family or household member who became ill from the vaccine, according to a press release. It Sure Looks Like Biden Was Going to Leave an American Behind in Afghanistan

So, with Afghanistan now back in the hands of the Taliban, we’re rushing to get the hell out of there. For all the talk of standing by our Afghan allies, Joe Biden decided to say ‘see ya later.’ Look, I’m no longer persuaded by the neoconservative argument anymore. Frankly, most of the country is sick of it. We’re done nation-building. We’ve seen how trying to transport democracy into regions that have zero historical ties to such ideals is a failure. American troops don’t facilitate its growth either. It’s too much blood and treasure. I think we should have left Afghanistan, but there’s a right way to do it. Like making sure we don’t leave key allies behind and their families—since these people would certainly be killed, valuable military equipment, arms, and hostages. Apparently, these items didn’t cross the Biden administration’s mind. It’s why you see Taliban fighters perusing through weapons caches we left behind. Being photographed near Humvees and MRAP we left behind. An F-16 flight simulator is in the hands of the Taliban, as are attack helicopters. And now, as the chinooks are flying into Kabul to get our people out, we apparently forgot about Mark Frerichs.

Frerichs disappeared in Afghanistan in early 2020. He’s a civil engineer and a US Navy veteran.

US Troops Fatally Shoot Two Armed Men at Kabul Airport

U.S. troops have fatally shot two armed men at Kabul’s airport, while images of Afghan civilians frantically trying to leave the country now under Taliban rule have dominated news coverage.

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed the two shootings Monday, but said it was not clear if the two men killed were affiliated with the Taliban.

“There have been security incidents at the field involving armed individuals shooting at U.S. forces. I want to reiterate that while our mission is not offensive, our forces have the inherent right of self defense, and they will respond accordingly to threats and attacks,” the Pentagon spokesperson told reporters Monday. “So in two separate incidents, U.S. forces did respond to hostile threats that resulted in the death of two armed individuals.”

The Wall Street Journal first reported that the two armed men approached the troops at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul who were stationed there to help with the evacuation process.

A Pentagon official also told the Journal that at least three Afghan civilians were killed after being run over by a military jet carrying staff members, according to the Journal.

FBI Team Raided Home of Couple Over US Capitol Riots, Allegedly Held Child at Gunpoint

FBI agents allegedly held an 11-year-old girl at gunpoint during a raid at an Atlanta-area farm owned by a couple who reportedly have ties to a far-right militia group.

In an incident that is just now emerging in the media, 40 federal agents traveling in four armored vehicles showed up at Covington, Ga.-area home of Donnie and Annmarie Hyatt on the morning of August 10 with a search warrant apparently as part of the ongoing investigation into the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Donnie Hyatt told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “‘They had my 11-year-old daughter at gunpoint’…He said his daughter had laser sights trained on her and ‘is pretty shaken’ by the experience. ‘She still shakes when she talks about it,’ he said.”

Donnie Hyatt and his wife attended the January 6 “stop the steal” rally in Washington D.C., but he says they did not enter the Capitol building and described the breach as a “really dumb decision.”

Instead, he claims he was monitoring what was going on with a police scanner. “I don’t even know anybody that knows anybody that went in,” he insisted. (Read more from “FBI Team Raided Home of Couple Over US Capitol Riots, Allegedly Held Child at Gunpoint” HERE)

After Killing US Oil Production and Jobs, Biden Tells Middle East, ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’

No one ever accused Joe Biden of making much sense. Even more coherent presidents than our septuagenarian-in-chief have been known to issue contradictory policies, the product of feuding factions within an administration.

Even so, the news out of the White House last week that the Biden administration wants the members of the Organization of the Petroleum-Exporting Countries (OPEC) to produce more oil is baffling. Combine that with that same administration’s continuing efforts to restrict domestic production, and it is downright enraging. Biden is perfectly happy for there to be more oil produced in the world, as long as the jobs and profits don’t belong to Americans. . .

The OPEC announcement this week is more of the same. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan begins the statement by acknowledging that “Higher gasoline costs, if left unchecked, risk harming the ongoing global recovery. The price of crude oil has been higher than it was at the end of 2019, before the onset of the pandemic.” . . .

In the OPEC statement, he yells “drill, baby, drill” to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, and the other members of the oil cartel. Foreign profits, foreign jobs, foreign infrastructure — all of these find favor with the current occupant of the White House. But American jobs? American profit? American infrastructure? No chance, not if it makes the Sierra Club sad. (Read more from “After Killing US Oil Production and Jobs, Biden Tells Middle East, ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’” HERE)

New Woman Steps Forward Alleging Jeffrey Epstein Raped Her

Another woman has come forward with new claims that she was raped by Jeffrey Epstein at his Manhattan townhouse when she was 17, a lawsuit shows.

The woman filed her suit anonymously in Manhattan Supreme Court late Friday — the eve of the historic closure of the New York Child Victim’s Act’s look-back window.

The window allowed people alleging childhood abuse to file suit against their suspected attackers and the institutions that reportedly protected the perpetrators, regardless of whether the old claims were beyond the statute of limitations.

The new Epstein case alleges that in 2003, when the woman was 17, the sick financier “sexually assaulted, abused, battered and raped her on at least two, separate occasions at his home” in Manhattan. (Read more from “New Woman Steps Forward Alleging Jeffrey Epstein Raped Her” HERE)

DOD to House Up to 30,000 Afghan Refugees on US Military Bases

The Department of Defense is set to house up to 30,000 Afghan refugees on U.S. military bases in the coming days as the Taliban have swept through the nation following President Joe Biden’s near-total troop withdrawal.

The individuals will be recipients of the SIV program, short for Special Immigrant Visas for Afghans, which grants asylum to residents of the country who worked for the U.S. government in some capacity, according to DOD documents obtained by Fox News on Sunday. Fort Bliss in Texas and Fort McCoy in Wisconsin are among the military installations that will be accommodating the Afghans.

“The situation in Afghanistan may lead to DoS [Department of State] allowing Afghan SIV applicants to be moved to temporary housing locations while still being vetted for parolee status,” the document read.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the United States can house “several thousand” refugees “immediately,” though more could flood in the future. (Read more from “DOD to House Up to 30,000 Afghan Refugees on US Military Bases” HERE)
