Good Riddance to New York City’s Worst Mayor Ever – Bill de Blasio (VIDEO)

In his novel “Anna Karenina,” Tolstoy writes that “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

Something similar can be said about New York City mayors: Successful ones share policies and leadership traits, while the failed ones chart individual paths of doom. . .

All of which brings us to Bill de Blasio. He is a failure, too, but on such a large scale that he belongs in a category of one. Mayor Putz, also known as the Worst Mayor Ever, is unique in all the wrong ways. . .

A corrupt mayor would be trouble enough, but de Blasio’s shortcomings didn’t stop with his dicey schemes with donors and unions. He also is glaringly incompetent, which, paired with the dirty deals, put the city behind the 8 ball for much of the last eight years.

To top it off, Mayor Putz is spectacularly lazy, working half-days from Gracie Mansion or a coffee shop in Brooklyn, where he liked to loiter after police chauffeured him to a gym. As time wore on, he failed to show up at City Hall more often than not — even before the pandemic struck. Being mayor was never a part-time gig until de Blasio got it. Democrats Want to Pull Back Penalties for Drive-by Shootings (VIDEO)

Washington state Democrats are seeking to pull back penalties for drive-by shootings in the state in the name of “promoting racial equity in the criminal legal system.”

Washington state Reps. Tarra Simmons and David Hackney introduced H.B. 1692 this month in an effort to keep charges related to drive-by shootings from escalating to an aggravated first-degree murder charge. The lawmakers, according to Fox News, are seeking to remove a 1995 provision that classifies murders “committed during the course of or as a result of a shooting where the discharge of the firearm … is either from a motor vehicle or from the immediate area of a motor vehicle that was used to transport the shooter or the firearm” as aggravated.

Simmons told Fox she believes “it’s clear that [the original law] was targeted at gangs that were predominantly young and Black” even though historical reports suggest that at the time of the law, “the state was experiencing a surge in gang-related crime.”

“Murder is murder no matter where the bullet comes from but locking young people up and throwing away the key is not the answer,” Simmons said, suggesting that the original provision is an example of “systemic racism.” (Read more from “Democrats Want to Pull Back Penalties for Drive-by Shootings” HERE)

Scientist Surprised by Discovery of ‘99%’ Effective, Cheap COVID Treatment

The scientist who combined two widely available over-the-counter compounds that inhibited the novel coronavirus by 99% in early tests told WND he’s hopeful his treatment will be available “within months.”

“An FDA-approved treatment could be in sight within months if pharmaceutical companies utilize existing clinical trial resources,” said Dr. David Ostrov in an email interview with WND.

Ostrov, an immunologist and associate professor in the University of Florida College of Medicine’s department of pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine, combined diphenhydramine, which is marketed as Benadryl, and lactoferrin, a protein in milk, as WND reported in December.

“My prediction is that antiviral drug combinations, such as diphenhydramine and lactoferrin, will provide a similar level of benefit as Regeneron monoclonal antibodies, Pfizer and Merck antivirals, at less than 1/100 the cost of those therapies,” he told WND.

Ostrov said he knew he was facing an uphill battle in his effort to find a combination of cheap, safe and available drugs to combat COVID-19. (Read more from “Scientist Surprised by Discovery of ‘99%’ Effective, Cheap COVID Treatment” HERE)

Ghislaine Maxwell Guilty: What Now?; Epstein Accusers: Conviction Provides a Measure of Justice

By AP. The British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted Wednesday of luring teenage girls to be sexually abused by the American millionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

The verdict capped a monthlong trial featuring sordid accounts of the sexual exploitation of girls as young as 14, told by four women who described being abused as teens in the 1990s and early 2000s at Epstein’s palatial homes in Florida, New York and New Mexico. . .

She faces the likelihood of years in prison — an outcome long sought by women who spent years fighting in civil courts to hold Maxwell accountable for her role in recruiting and grooming Epstein’s teenage victims and sometimes joining in the sexual abuse. Jeffrey Epstein Associate Ghislaine Maxwell Guilty on 5 of 6 Counts in Sex Trafficking Case

By ABC News. A jury has convicted Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of serial sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, on five of six counts related to the abuse and trafficking of underage girls. . .

She showed no visible emotion as the jury’s verdict was read in the New York City courtroom. Following the verdict, her family members exited the courtroom without comment.

The verdict came on the sixth day of jury deliberations, after about 40 hours of deliberation.

“A unanimous jury has found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of one of the worst crimes imaginable — facilitating and participating in the sexual abuse of children,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement following the verdict. “I want to commend the bravery of the girls — now grown women — who stepped out of the shadows and into the courtroom. Their courage and willingness to face their abuser made this case, and today’s result, possible.” (Read more from “Jeffrey Epstein Associate Ghislaine Maxwell Guilty on 5 of 6 Counts in Sex Trafficking Case” HERE)

Epstein Accusers Say Ghislaine Maxwell’s Conviction Provides a Measure of Justice

By New York Times. Ghislaine Maxwell, the former companion to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, was convicted on Wednesday of conspiring with him for at least a decade to recruit, groom and sexually abuse underage girls. . .

In her trial, the government called four accusers — two used pseudonyms and one only a partial name — who testified that they had been served up to Mr. Epstein to be sexually abused. Ms. Maxwell was present for some of the abuse, according to the testimony, and played a role in enticing and grooming some of the victims.

Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement Wednesday night: “The road to justice has been far too long. But, today, justice has been done. I want to commend the bravery of the girls — now grown women — who stepped out of the shadows and into the courtroom.” (Read more from “Epstein Accusers Say Ghislaine Maxwell’s Conviction Provides a Measure of Justice” HERE)

Fauci Pension Would Be Largest in Nation’s History

If octogenarian COVID-19 czar Anthony Fauci ever decides to retire, he should have plenty of income to enjoy what’s left of his golden years.

The doctor will be making at least $350,000 per year after he leaves his job as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci could have retired in 2005 but stayed in his job, which is now paying $434,312 a year, the highest of any federal employee, including President Joe Biden.

“There’s no way I’m going to walk away from this until we get this under control. I mean, that’s the purpose of what we do. That’s our mission in life. In the middle of it, I’m not going to walk away,” Fauci told ABC News. “It’s kind of like we’re halfway through World War II and you decide, ‘Well, I think I’ve had enough of this. I’m walking away.’”

His eye-popping retirement will be the largest in U.S. history. Open the Books calculated his retirement earnings at 80% of his highest three-year average plus cost of living increases. (Read more from “Fauci Pension Would Be Largest in Nation’s History” HERE)

Clinton Voter Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison Over Fatal Argument About 2016 Election

The Associated Press reported today that a California man who voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after shooting his bandmate and killing his bandmate’s wife after being teased about backing Clinton.

According to the AP, “John Kevin McVoy Jr., 40, of Corona, received the maximum sentence Monday after being convicted of murder last month.”

Though his lawyers claimed self-defense, McVoy was found guilty of murder, as well as bringing a loaded weapon into a residence and pointing it at somebody last November after he shot his bandmate, Victor Garcia, and killed his wife, Susan Garica, who was holding their small child:

“McVoy was in a garage band with Victor Garcia. During practice on Jan. 10, 2017, the two got into an argument over politics at Garcia’s home in North Long Beach, prosecutors said.

McVoy pulled a gun after he was teased for saying he had voted for Hillary Clinton and Garcia told him to leave, prosecutors said.

Is the West Becoming Pagan Again?

This year, at the height of what used to be called the Christmas season, a Pew Research Center poll on religion revealed that only slightly more Americans described themselves as Roman Catholics (21 percent) than as believers in “nothing in particular” (20 percent). The millennial generation, which includes most adult Americans under 40, is the first one in which Christians are a minority.

Many Americans have a sense that their country is less religious than it used to be. But is it really? The interplay among institutions, behaviors and beliefs is notoriously hard to chart. Even if we could determine that religious sentiment was in flux, it would be hard to say whether we were talking about this year’s fad or this century’s trend.

Or perhaps we are dealing with an even deeper process. That is the argument of a much-discussed book published in Paris this fall. In it, the French political theorist Chantal Delsol contends that we are living through the end of Christian civilization — a civilization that began (roughly) with the Roman rout of pagan holdouts in the late fourth century and ended (roughly) with Pope John XXIII’s embrace of religious pluralism and the West’s legalization of abortion.

The book is called “La Fin de la Chrétienté,” which might be translated as “The End of the Christian World.” Ms. Delsol is quite clear that what is ending is not the Christian faith, with its rites and dogmas, but only Christian culture — the way Christian societies are governed and the art, philosophy and lore that have arisen under Christianity’s influence.

That is still quite a lot. In the West, Christian society is the source of our cultural norms and moral proscriptions, not to mention the territory of our present-day culture wars, with their strident arguments over pronouns and statues and gay bridegrooms and pedophile priests. CNN Producer Resigns After Allegedly Soliciting Photos of Underage Girls

Rick Saleeby, a producer for CNN’s Jake Tapper has resigned, Project Veritas announced on Wednesday. Project Veritas, Leah reported earlier this month, released a project detailing that a CNN producer was fantasizing about sexual acts with his fiancée’s 14-year-old daughter. The producer’s fiancée, Janine Bonanni, said that Saleeby solicited her daughter for photos as well.

The report from Project Veritas also noted that Virginia’s Fairfax County police have investigated Saleeby and taken some of his property. “When confronted by a Project Veritas reporter early in the week outside of his court appearance, Saleeby refused to answer questions about his official status with CNN,” it also indicated.

Five Men Accused of Plotting to Kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Want Charges Dismissed Because FBI ‘Invented Conspiracy’

Five men associated with the far-right Wolverine Watchmen militia group have asked a judge to dismiss charges of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after claiming that the FBI fabricated the plan and tried to trap them in the conspiracy.

Barry Croff, 44, Adam Fox, 40, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, 23, and Brandon Caserta were arrested on October 8, 2020 after allegedly hatched the plot because they were upset with Whitmer’s COVID-19 restrictions. All five men are currently in custody.

According to a federal complaint, they planned to snatch Whitmer from her vacation home and secret her away in an undisclosed location.

‘The government initiated this case, despite the fact that it knew there was no plan to kidnap, no operational plan, and no details about how a kidnapping would occur or what would happen afterward,’ defense lawyer Scott Graham wrote in his 20-page motion.

The attorneys claimed in their December 25 filing that if it weren’t for an FBI informant embedded with the group, known only as ‘Dan’, who encouraged the plot and promised to fund it through a charity organization, the men would never have done it on their own. These Are the Most Important Senate Races in 2022

With the Senate tied 50-50, just a few key races will decide which party controls Congress’ upper chamber for the last two years of President Joe Biden’s first term.

In addition to key pieces of legislation, executive and judicial nominees will depend on whether Democrats can maintain control, or Republicans take over. Here are five of the most important Senate races to watch during the midterms:

Republican Pat Toomey is retiring after two terms, and his seat is one of just two up for election where the current holder is of a different party than the candidate who won the state in 2020. Army veteran Sean Parnell, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, dropped out of the race in November following a contentious custody battle that included accusations of domestic violence. State Sen. Jeff Bartos and television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz are the two highest-profile Republicans in the race, although Bridgewater Associates CEO David McCormick is also considering a run. . .

In the other state won by Joe Biden where a Republican currently holds a seat up for re-election, incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson has publicly considered retirement. Johnson won re-election in 2016 against Russ Feingold by less than four points, leading some Democrats to view the seat as a pickup opportunity. . .

Sen. Mark Kelly, who defeated Martha McSally in a 2020 special election, will run for a full six-year term. Following the statewide victories of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in 2018, and Kelly and Joe Biden in 2020, many Democrats have begun to view Arizona as a key swing state. Biden was the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state since Bill Clinton in 1996, and Sinema was the first Democratic senator elected by Arizonans since Dennis DeConcini in 1988.
