With the conclusion of the Maxwell case, attention will now turn to a U.S. civil suit in which the plaintiff alleges Maxwell and long-time boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein took her to London, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands to have sex with Andrew when she was underage.

Andrew denies the allegations, but Wednesday’s verdict shows that at least one American jury was willing to believe the young women trafficked by Epstein and Maxwell in a criminal case, where the standard of proof is higher than in civil cases. Prince Andrew Defense: Accuser Cannot Sue Because She Isn’t in U.S.

By AP. A lawsuit by an American who claims Prince Andrew sexually abused her when she was 17 might have to be thrown out because she no longer lives in the U.S., lawyers for the Prince said in a court filing Tuesday.

Attorneys Andrew Brettler and Melissa Lerner wrote that they recently discovered Virginia Giuffre has lived in Australia all but two of the last 19 years and cannot claim she’s a resident of Colorado, where she hasn’t lived since at least 2019. . .

The prince’s lawyers in October asked Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to throw out the lawsuit, saying the prince “never sexually abused or assaulted” Giuffre and they believed she sued Andrew “to achieve another payday at his expense and at the expense of those closest to him.” The lawyers acknowledged that Giuffre may well be a victim of sexual abuse by financier Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting a sex trafficking trial. Prison Conditions Could ‘Improve’ for Ghislaine Maxwell After Sentencing

The conditions of Ghislaine Maxwell’s detention could dramatically improve after she is sentenced and assigned to a federal prison following her conviction on five out of six sex trafficking charges, according to experts.

Maxwell, who was convicted on Wednesday, has been held at the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center since her arrest in July 2020. She has described conditions there as “a living hell,” claiming that she was served maggot-ridden food and had to watch as sewage and rats came into her tiny cell.

As a convicted sex offender, Maxwell will be ineligible for placement into a minimum security facility such as the Federal Prison Camp near Alderson, West Virginia—the so-called “Camp Cupcake” where Martha Stewart was detained for five months in 2005. She will instead be placed into an at least low-security prison.

Federal prison expert Justin Paperny, the founder of the prison consulting firm White Collar Advice, told Newsweek on Thursday that Maxwell will likely consider her new home an upgrade regardless of the security level. Pelosi, Trump Reveal Plans for Competing Jan. 6 Observances

As members of Congress engage in a prayer vigil to mark the one-year anniversary of the riot on Capitol Hill, former President Donald Trump will mark the occasion at his Mar-a-Largo resort in Florida — battling the press.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, announced on Thursday a schedule of events for Jan. 6. Trump similarly announced the specifics for a press conference set for the same day.

“These events are intended as an observance of reflection, remembrance, and recommitment, in a spirit of unity, patriotism, and prayerfulness,” Pelosi said. “The patriotism and courage of our members as we prepare for this difficult day is an inspiration for which I sincerely thank you.”

In a letter to Democratic colleagues, which was shared with the media Thursday, Pelosi outlined the schedule, which includes four events. Congress will not be back in session until Jan. 10, but Pelosi invited her Democrat colleagues to the events. She said Congress will also live-stream its commemorations.

The first thing on her list is a pro forma session in the House at noon with a moment of silence on the House floor. At 1 p.m., Carla Hayden, the librarian of Congress, will host a conversation between historians Jon Meacham and Doris Kearns Goodwin about the events of Jan. 6. Police Shoot and Kill Critically Endangered Tiger to Free Man Who Stuck His Arm in Cage

Florida police say they were forced to shoot and kill a critically endangered tiger at the Naples Zoo after it bit and seriously injured a man who had entered a restricted area and reached into the animal’s enclosure.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the injured man was a member of a third-party cleaning service contracted by the zoo. After the zoo had closed for the day on Wednesday, he entered an unauthorized area near a tiger that was inside its enclosure, police said.

Investigators say the man was either petting or feeding the animal, “both of which are unauthorized and dangerous activities,” when he was attacked.

“Initial reports indicate that the tiger grabbed the man’s arm and pulled it into the enclosure after the the man traversed an initial fence barrier and put his arm through the fencing of the tiger enclosure,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Police were called to the zoo at 6:26 p.m. The first deputy to arrive on the scene kicked the tiger enclosure in an unsuccessful attempt to get the animal to release the man’s arm from its mouth. CDC Warns People to Avoid Cruise Ships

Following a major spike in COVID-19 cases on cruises, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that Americans should “avoid cruise ships, regardless of vaccination status.” The CDC also raised the risk level for cruising to the health agency’s highest warning level, citing “increases in cases onboard cruise ships since identification of the omicron variant.”

“Avoid cruise travel, regardless of vaccination status,” the CDC warned. “Even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.”

“The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high, even if you are fully vaccinated and have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose,” the CDC guidance said.

Transitioning to New Messaging? Trans Activists Admit They’ve Lost the Debate

Advocates for the transgender ideology are admitting they cannot persuade their own progressive allies, or even “persuadable” swing voters, to back their revolutionary goal of suppressing Americans’ recognition of sex differences.

“Right now, our opposition wins the debate on trans youth in sports against any and all arguments we have tried for our side,” admits a “Messaging Guide” by the California-based Transgender Law Center.

Overall, “we can at best elicit sympathy, a passive and often patronizing attitude that alienates our base [of current supporters] and fails to generate sustained interest from persuadable audiences” of swing voters, said the guide, which is titled “Transgender Youth and the Freedom to Be Ourselves.”

The counter-strategy is to stealthily hook their aggressive ideology to the public’s existing sympathy for poor people, women, and racial minorities, according to the messaging guide:

…the Race Class Narrative to tell a convincing story of how our opposition uses strategic racism and transphobia to harm us all; and how, by coming together, we can ensure we all have the freedom to be ourselves and support one another.

FDA to Authorize COVID Booster for Children

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to approve booster shots of Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds on Monday, people familiar with the agency’s plan told The New York Times.

In addition to that broadened policy, the FDA also intends to announce that both children and adults could seek their booster shot five months after their second dose, instead of the previously advised six months. Immunocompromised children ages 5 to 11 are also expected to be allowed boosters, according to the Times.

The Times reported that the vaccine advisory committee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is set to meet next week to vote on approving the FDA’s policy changes, which CDC Director Rochelle Walensky is expected to endorse.

The change in policy comes as the U.S. and the world endure soaring COVID-19 case rates fueled by the highly contagious omicron variant, discovered last month in South Africa.

Fauci ADMITS Majority of Children Hospitalized With COVID-19 Aren’t There Because of the Virus

White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted that many children being hospitalized with COVID-19 are there for reasons other than the virus, and just happened to test positive for it upon being admitted.

Fauci appeared in an interview on the Rachel Maddow show Wednesday evening, and was asked about an ongoing increase in children’s hospitalizations with the virus. Hospitalizations have ticked up as the Omicron variant has caused a surge in new cases, but overall deaths are stagnant from the virus.

“Quantitatively, you’re having so many more people, including children, who are getting infected. And even though hospitalization among children is much much lower on a percentage basis than hospitalizations for adults, particularly elderly individuals,” Fauci said when asked why there’s been an increase in hospitalizations even though Omicron is more mild than prior variants. “However, when you have such a large volume of infections among children, even with a low level of rate of infection, you’re gonna still see a lot more children who get hospitalized.”

“But the other important thing, is that if you look at the children who are hospitalized, many of them are hospitalized with COVID, as opposed to because of COVID,” he continued. “And what we mean by that, if a child goes in the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID, and they get counted as a COVID hospitalized individual. When in fact, they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that.”

A new study concluded that Americans can reduce their risk from COVID-19 by losing a few pounds.

Cleveland Clinic found that, among COVID-19 patients with obesity, weight loss via bariatric surgery was associated with a 60% reduction in risk of severe complications from the virus.

“Obesity weakens the immune system, creates a chronic inflammatory state, and increases risk for cardiovascular disease, blood clots, and lung conditions. All of these conditions can complicate COVID-19,” the Clinic said in a press release.

“Our study provides strong evidence that obesity is a modifiable risk factor for COVID-19 that can be improved through a successful weight-loss intervention,” Dr. Ali Aminian, the study’s lead author, said. Slammed Shut: Prosecutors End Criminal Case Against Jeffrey Epstein’s Prison Guards

US prosecutors ended the criminal case against the two Manhattan prison guards tasked with guarding convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on the night of his suicide and who admitted to falsifying records.

Federal prosecutors Thursday asked a judge to dismiss charges against Tova Noel and Michael Thomas in Manhattan following their six-month deferred prosecution deal reached in May that kept the two jailers out of jail. They instead each agreed to complete 100 hours of community service and to cooperate with federal investigators’ probe into Epstein’s death.

Noel and Thomas, who were working overtime shifts, allegedly sat just five yards from Epstein’s cell, but shopped online and took breaks instead of checking his cell every 30 minutes as required.
