What Happened When I Decided to Get My Tree From the Mountains on Christmas Eve

It’s Christmas Eve a few years back and I’m shopping for presents for my wife and kids in a Flying J truck stop near Idaho Falls, Idaho, choosing among an array of camo hoodies, American eagle-themed insulated cups, Duck Dynasty ball caps, saw-back hunting knives, and heavy-duty jumper cables. Poor holiday planning has put me in a jam. . .

It’s ten at night and six degrees when I reach the alpine forest. With my high beams switched on, all alone on the dark road, I cruise along and look for a good spot to park on the shoulder and launch my hunt. No spot appears much better than any other, so I pull off at random and search inside my car for gloves or mittens and a winter hat.

No luck; I didn’t need them in California. I decide this is fine because I shouldn’t be out long. I unfold the saw and zip up my light coat and step out into the powdery new snow. It’s packed flat near the car, but once I enter the woods it reaches almost to my knees.

The profusion of suitable trees I expected isn’t evident at first. Some are the proper height but lack girth. Others have girth but are only three feet tall. Most are ten feet tall, or taller, and block the pale trickle of moonlight as I trudge on.

Up ahead, I discern a promising candidate, but when I walk up beside it and examine it, I discover it has no boughs on its backside. Luckily, there’s a nicer one further on, so I head off in its direction. By now I’m suppressing shivers, and my sneakers – canvas; I put them on when I left Malibu — are icy stiff and hard to lift. Christmas Message: UK PM Says Getting COVID Vax ‘Is the Teaching of Jesus Christ’

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suggested that “Getting jabbed… not just for ourselves” but for others as well is “the teaching of Jesus Christ” in a Covid-heavy Christmas message.

“After two years of this pandemic, I can’t say that we’re through it,” Prime Minister Johnson began, somewhat less than optimistically given the circumstances. . .

“I hope I can be forgiven for taking pride in the immense spirit of neighbourliness that the people of this country have shown,” the Prime Minister continued, waxing lyrical on people “Getting jabbed not just for themselves, for ourselves, but for friends and family and everyone we meet” and how “that, after all, is the teaching of Jesus Christ, whose birth is at the heart of this enormous festival, that we should love our neighbours as we love ourselves.”

“And so let’s think of all those who are being good neighbours and thinking of others,” he went on, somewhat labouring the point but stopping short of directly attacking the unvaccinated as bad neighbours — or bad Christians. Governor’s Christmas Message: ‘How Blessed’ Are We to ‘Celebrate the Birth of Christ Freely’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) released a Christmas message ahead of the holiday, reminding Americans how blessed they are to live in a country that “protects our right to celebrate the birth of Christ freely.”

Baby Jesus Presented at the Temple in Jerusalem: ’And the Favor of God Was Upon Him’

From the Gospel according to Luke, in the days after the birth of Jesus Christ on the first Christmas:

And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angle before he was conceived in the womb.

And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.

Mark of the Beast? Company Creates COVID Vax Microchip; Swedes Are Implanting Microchip Vaccine Passports. It Won’t Stop There

By Insider. A Swedish start-up has created a microchip that can be implanted into the skin, displaying details of one’s COVID vaccine passport when scanned.

The invention, created by tech firm Dsruptive Subdermals, involves a pre-programmed scannable implant 2 millimeters by 16 millimeters in size being inserted just beneath the skin.

“I have a chip implant in my arm, and I have programmed the chip so that I have my COVID passport on the chip, and the reason is that I always want to have it accessible,” Hannes Sjoblad, managing director of Dsruptive Subdermals, told the AFP.

Sjoblad demonstrated for the AFP how it was possible to scan the chip with his phone to bring up a PDF that showed all the details of his EU Digital COVID Certificate, a pass somewhat similar to the US’s vaccine card. Swedes Are Implanting Microchip Vaccine Passports. It Won’t Stop There

By The Federalist. Last week, the world glimpsed a future in which vaccine passports are implanted under the skin. A viral video from South China Morning Post profiled a Swedish start-up hub, Epicenter, that injects its employees with microchips.

“Right now it is very convenient to have a COVID passport always accessible on your implant,” its chief disruption officer, Hannes Sjöblad, told the interviewer. Oddly enough, he repeatedly spoke of chipping “arms” when we clearly see a woman opening doors with her hand.

Two years earlier, Sjöblad told ITV, “I want us humans to open up and improve our sensory universe, our cognitive functions. … I want to merge humans with technology and I think it will be awesome.”

Naturally, some Christians see the Mark of the Beast. In a sane world, the idea of having your hand chipped to access public goods or private property—to receive a mark in order to “buy, sell, or trade”—should alarm anyone, regardless of religious persuasion. The same goes for using an implanted brain-computer interface to access the digital realm, as Elon Musk plans to do with Neuralink.

Yet for a growing fringe, this invasive tech isn’t just desirable. It’s already normal. Presently, some 5,000 Swedes use implanted radio frequency identification (RFID) chips to open doors, pay cashless, present medical records, access concert venues, and ride public transportation. According to Ars Technica, as of 2018 an estimated 50,000-100,000 people worldwide have microchip implants, primarily in their hands. Top Harvard Scientist Who Hid Millions in Secret Payments From China Convicted on All Charges

Charles Lieber, a Harvard professor and one of America’s top research chemists, was found guilty on Tuesday of hiding his ties to a Chinese government recruitment program and accepting millions in payments.

The Department of Justice announced Lieber was convicted by a jury on two counts of making false statements to federal authorities, two counts of making a false income tax return and two counts of failing to report foreign bank and financial accounts with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). All six charges stemmed from Lieber’s efforts to conceal his ties with China’s Thousand Talents Program and the Wuhan University of Technology (WUT).

Lieber served as Principal Investigator of the Lieber Research Group at Harvard University, which received more than $15 million in federal research grants from 2008 to 2019. During the same time Lieber led his research group at Harvard, and unbeknownst to the Ivy League university, Lieber also acted as a “Strategic Scientist” at China’s WUT and then as a contractual participant in China’s Thousand Talents Plan.

The Thousand Talents Program is a Chinese government-backed effort to recruit primarily Chinese citizens who have been educated in elite programs overseas. The program aims to find these highly educated Chinese citizens and recruit them to bring their talents back and serve Chinese government interests. Two Pro-Police Reform Dems Carjacked Less Than 24 Hours Apart

Two Democrats who supported police reform in Philadelphia and Chicago were both carjacked at gunpoint within 24 hours of each other.

Illinois state Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood) was targeted in suburban Chicago on Tuesday night, while Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.) was carjacked Wednesday afternoon after an event in South Philadelphia.

Lightford was driving with her husband, Eric McKennie, in Broadview at about 9:45 p.m. when three masked suspects in a Durango SUV hijacked the couple’s black Mercedes. . .

Her ordeal came hours before Scanlon, a fellow Democrat, was carjacked at gunpoint in a separate incident as she returned to her blue Acura MDX at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

No Wonder Why People and Businesses Are Dumping California

A recent study by the Cato Institute, the libertarian think tank, ranked California 48th out of the 50 states in personal and economic freedom. The study also examines fiscal policy and regulatory policy. For the first time, California’s population decreased last year, resulting in the loss of a congressional seat.

[Here’s why: as] of the end of 2021, a publicly held company headquartered in California must have between one and three female board members, depending upon its size, or face a fine of $100,000. Proponents insist that female membership on boards of directors increases profits. One wonders why companies do not simply sack their male members in favor of an all-female board. . .

In October, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, to continue the fight against “climate change,” signed a bill to eliminate gasoline powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers. Never mind that a spokesperson for the National Association of Landscape Professionals said a three-person landscaping crew will need to carry 30 to 40 fully charged batteries to power its equipment during a full day’s work. . .

Then there’s the new law requiring large toy stores to set up “gender neutral” toy sections. Evan Low, the California Democratic Assemblyman who co-authored the bill said: “We need to stop stigmatizing what’s acceptable for certain genders and just let kids be kids. My hope is this bill encourages more businesses across California and the U.S. to avoid reinforcing harmful and outdated stereotypes”. . .

Not a Joke: Tennessee Husband Reportedly Saves Wife by Choking Out Attacking Kangaroo

In a bizarre story out of Middle Tennessee, a number of kangaroos escaped from an exotic wildlife refuge in Middle Tennessee and reportedly attacked a married couple who were attempting to herd it back into its enclosure, forcing the husband to take swift and deadly action against one of the animals.

According to WSMV-TV, Sumner County police are investigating the incident, which apparently began when an unknown number of kangaroos escaped their enclosure in what was described as an “exotic animal collection” in White House, Tennessee. According to iHeart radio news, a married couple that lived near the area spotted the loose animals and were attempting to coax them back into their enclosure when the attack occurred. . .

During the course of attempting to herd the kangaroos back to their enclosure, one of the kangaroos apparently became hostile and attacked the couple, whereupon the husband reportedly sprang into action, placing the kangaroo in a chokehold to prevent it from further attacking his wife.
