Louisiana Supreme Court Allows Abortions to Remain Legal Despite ‘Trigger Law’

The Louisiana Supreme Court refused to overturn a lower court ruling preventing the state from enforcing its ban on abortion.

In a 4-2 ruling late Wednesday, the majority of justices said the court will decline to be involved “at this preliminary stage” in denying the state attorney general’s request to allow immediate enforcement of state laws against most abortions.

The decision allows a lower court ruling that blocked enforcement of the state’s “trigger law” to stand. A district court judge last week imposed a temporary stay on enforcement following a legal challenge from abortion providers in the state who argued the law was overly vague.

The lower court ruling will remain in place as abortion providers make their case in court on Friday. (Read more from “Louisiana Supreme Court Allows Abortions to Remain Legal Despite ‘Trigger Law’” HERE)

Mortgage Rates Have Biggest Weekly Drop Since 2008

Mortgage rates just posted their biggest weekly plunge since the 2008 financial crisis while the red-hot housing market appears to be cooling off.

Mortgage rates rose quickly as the Federal Reserve began hiking interest rates to combat inflation, although last week, they steeply fell off. The average rate on a 30-year loan is now at 5.3%, down from 5.7% last week, Freddie Mac announced on Thursday.

The government-sponsored housing enterprise pointed out in a statement that concerns about a recession continue to percolate as the rate plunges.

“While the drop provides minor relief to buyers, the housing market will continue to normalize if home price growth materially slows due to the combination of low housing affordability and an expected economic slowdown,” the statement said. Poll: 57 Percent Believe U.S. Is in an ‘Economic Recession’

A majority of adult Americans believe that the United States is “currently in an economic recession,” according to an Economist/YouGov poll.

Of the 1500 U.S. adult citizens surveyed, 57 percent stated “yes” when asked if they “believe the United States is currently in an economic recession,” while just 19 percent said they do not think there is a recession. Another 24 percent were unsure. Most of the respondents who reported being Republicans and independents said they believe America is dealing with a recession, at 75 percent and 57 percent, respectively. Conversely, 43 percent of Democrats said a recession is currently happening.

Just over half of Americans (51 percent) said that the “prices of goods and services [they] buy” is the “best indicator” of a recession. “The unemployment rate and job reports” was the second most popular answer, garnering 21 percent of the response. Eleven percent believe the “stock market index” is the best sign of a recession, while five percent said their “personal finances.”

Just 16 percent of Americans view the economy’s condition as either “excellent” (three percent) or “good” (13 percent), while a majority of 51 percent categorized it as “poor.” Another 29 percent viewed it as “fair.” (Read more from “Poll: 57 Percent Believe U.S. Is in an ‘Economic Recession’” HERE)

Poll: Only 64 Percent of Democrats Approve of Joe Biden, Down 24 Points in 12 Months

President Joe Biden’s approval among the Democrat Party has sunk 24 points since July 2021, according to Civiqs polling.

Just 64 percent of Democrats approve of Biden, down from 88 percent since last July. Biden’s approval has dropped a full five points since June 20.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump held an approval rating among Republicans that hovered around 90 percent for years until January 12, dropping to 85 percent just before leaving office.

The polling comes as the president has been taking heat from Democrats for not being assertive on culture war issues. “Rudderless, aimless and hopeless,” is how one member of Congress described the White House to CNN.

“There is a leadership vacuum right now, and he’s not filling it,” Democrat consultant Adam Jentleson told the Washington Post. “I sympathize with the argument that there’s very little they can do legislatively. But in moments of crisis, the president is called upon to be a leader. And when people are feeling scared and angry and outraged, they look to him for that, and they’re not getting much.” (Read more from “Poll: Only 64 Percent of Democrats Approve of Joe Biden, Down 24 Points in 12 Months” HERE)

Tens of Thousands of Soldiers Barred From Service Due to Biden Vaccine Mandate

Sixty-two thousand Army National Guard and Reserve soldiers are being deprived of pay and benefits, due to noncompliance with the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate.

The military service members who are not vaccinated, or do not have a pending or approved exemption, will no longer be allowed to drill or train, Army officials said last week. If noncompliance continues, officials say they will discharge them. The move to bar soldiers from service, pay, and benefits comes as the armed forces have struggled with recruitment. The Army cited “maintaining readiness” as the branch’s rationale for enforcing the vaccine mandate, according to a statement.

Army officials point out their “policy affords every Soldier the opportunity to request an exemption, such as for medical or religious concerns.” Previous reporting by the Washington Free Beacon, however, found that military leadership has granted few. In the Marine Corps, just three service members were granted religious exemptions. Congressional Republicans have pressured the Pentagon for more information about the armed forces vaccine mandate, but their calls have gone unanswered. Biden Admin to Spend $1B From Infrastructure Package to Upgrade 85 Airports

The Biden administration announced Thursday it will spend roughly $1 billion to upgrade 85 airports across the country, including terminals and other facilities.

The funds, which were part of last year’s massive $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal, will be used to expand capacity, increase energy efficiency and improve the passenger experience, through upgrades to baggage handling and ticket counters.

“Americans deserve modern airports that meet the needs of their families and growing passenger demand. Funded through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, today’s grants will improve airport terminals while also creating good jobs in communities across the country,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

The announcement followed a chaotic Fourth of July holiday weekend as thousands of flights across the country were delayed or canceled. A combination of surging demand for travel, staff shortages, and high gas prices led to nightmares for thousands of travelers seeking to fly last weekend.

Nearly 17,000 flights were delayed and more than 1,400 were canceled over the weekend, according to FlightAware, a website that tracks flight information. (Read more from “Biden Admin to Spend $1B From Infrastructure Package to Upgrade 85 Airports” HERE)

Conway Blasts Kushner Over 2020 ‘Debacle,’ Predicts Trump ‘Unstoppable’ in 2024

Former Trump White House adviser Kellyanne Conway has said that Donald Trump should keep his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, far away from the campaign trail if Trump makes another presidential run in 2024 — and accused Kushner of profiting “handsomely” from his four years in the West Wing.

Conway, who helmed the 45th president’s successful 2016 White House run, mocked reports that Kushner has said he is through with politics, calling that statement a “convenient way of saying, ‘Don’t hold me responsible for all the authority I gave myself.’”

“It’s become incredibly convenient for Jared to not be given responsibility for that 2020 debacle of a campaign, to not take responsibility for, frankly, not being there for his father-in-law now the way that he insisted on being there for five straight years until things didn’t really work out,” Conway said in an interview with the Washington Times published Wednesday.

Conway, who also trashed Kushner in her recent memoir “Here’s the Deal,” added: “There’s nobody who’s profited more handsomely from Donald Trump’s presidency than Jared Kushner,” referring to reports that the Saudi government invested $2 billion in the private equity firm Kushner started after leaving government service. Gunman Previously Told Cops He Was a Depressed Drug User

Confessed Highland Park shooter Robert Crimo III admitted to cops three years ago that he was a depressed teenage drug user when quizzed about threatening to “kill everyone” in his family, newly released documents show.

A Highland Park police report details why the then-18-year-old alleged shooter was flagged as a “clear and present danger” in 2019 — just a few months before his dad helped him start amassing the arsenal he allegedly used to kill seven and injure dozens at his local Fourth of July parade.

It notes that officers were called to his Highland Park home at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 for a well-being check after a relative said “Robert stated he was going to kill everyone.“

That relative — whose identity was redacted — “was afraid to go home due to the nature of the threat” and the fact that there was “a collection of knives in his bedroom,” the report released Wednesday notes.

Police quizzed the then-18-year-old Crimo in front of his mother, Denise Pesina, and he “admitted to being depressed … and having a history of drug use,” the redacted report said. It did not detail what drugs he used at the time. (Read more from “Gunman Previously Told Cops He Was a Depressed Drug User” HERE)

Democrat Strategists Sound Alarm Over Joe Biden’s Setbacks; POLITICO Joins in on Covering Democrats’ Frustration With Biden

By Breitbart. Some Democrat strategists have expressed concern over President Joe Biden’s handling of hot-button issues such as inflation and abortion amid increasingly bleak polling numbers facing the president.

“There’s the administrative part of the job and the political part of the job, and it seems like this president is leaning more in the administrative role at a time when his coalition is thirsty for political clarity and leadership,” Democrat strategist Joel Payne said in an interview with The Hill published Wednesday. “The president and his team have to be vigilant about providing that and balance the need to do both.”

Another Democrat strategist, whose identity was not relieved by The Hill, sharply criticized Biden and White House officials, suggesting they need to do a lot more to solve a mounting number of issues plaguing the country.

“It’s infuriating,” the top strategist reportedly stated. “Our house is on fire and it seems like they’re doing nothing to put the fire out. They’re just watching it with the rest of us.”

Worries regarding Biden’s performance from within the Beltway coincide with polling that show the president is losing support across the U.S. (Read more from “Democrat Strategists Sound Alarm Over Joe Biden’s Setbacks” HERE)

Politico Joins in on Covering Democrats’ Frustration With Joe Biden

By Townhall. The mainstream media has truly turned on President Joe Biden in recent days. The Wednesday morning edition of POLITICO Playbook read that “Dems wonder if Biden can rise to moment.”

As Playbook laid out:

The gist of their complaints: Biden (and Democrats) need a vibe shift — fast. They want the president to reflect their anger and angst. They want him to project strength and that he has a plan for meaningful action. They want him to pick fights at the right time with the right opponents, messaging on themes that get reinforced time and again.

And they feel all of this is missing from the White House right now.

One such report came from POLITICO itself, with Christopher Cadelago and Jonathan Lemire and writing on Wednesday morning “‘Be absolutely furious’: Dems want more from Biden after Highland Park.” (Read more from “Politico Joins in on Covering Democrats’ Frustration With Joe Biden” HERE)

Professor Blasts ‘Woke Takeover of Higher Education,’ Reveals Why He Finally Quit

University of California Los Angeles anthropology professor Joseph Manson revealed that he is leaving academia due to the “Woke takeover of higher education.”

A blog post from Manson, who decided to retire at the age of 62, details the ways in which “militant” faculty members are upending the university, even causing a decline in academic standards. He characterized UCLA’s anthropology department as “unusually peaceful” and “intellectually inclusive” until the late 2000s, when “militant faculty recruited even more extremely militant graduate students to work with them.”

Manson detailed the “public torment and humiliation” of colleague Professor Jeffrey Brantingham, who created predictive software that could aid law enforcement in preventing urban crime. A resolution passed by the school’s Anthropology Graduate Students Association condemned the work as furthering the “criminalization of Blackness in the United States,” as well as reinforcing “the racial capitalist and imperialist projects” dominant across the world. As a result, Brantingham became the target of activism from colleagues and students for years.

“This document contains no trace of scholarly argument, but instead resembles a religious proclamation of anathema,” Manson observed. “As you won’t be surprised to hear, Jeff is not a racist, but a standard-issue liberal Democrat.”

Manson said that several colleagues admitted to him that Brantingham was treated unfairly, though they refrained from saying so publicly due to “fear of the Woke faction.” Among other clues to the pervasive fear, Manson noted that all faculty members except for himself voted to drop the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) — an admissions test used by many American graduate schools — despite its usefulness in determining students’ qualifications, due to the possibility of being “regarded as racists.” (Read more from “Professor Blasts ‘Woke Takeover of Higher Education,’ Reveals Why He Finally Quit” HERE)
