China Wants Its Downed Spy Aircraft Back, Blasts U.S. ‘Use of Force’ Response to Surveillance Flight

The People’s Republic of China is requesting the return of its surveillance aircraft after the balloon was shot down over the continental United States on Saturday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning fielded questions Tuesday about the incident, which dominated news cycles and commanded attention from U.S. politicians.

Asked for additional information regarding the purpose of the spy balloon and reports of similar aircraft making routes through North American and South American airspace, Mao declined.

“The Chinese side has given information about the unmanned airship on several occasions. I don’t have anything to add at the moment,” she stated.

The Pentagon said it “acted immediately to protect against the collection of sensitive information” from the spy platform. But geopolitical experts said there is little reason to believe those efforts were successful as the balloon almost certainly transferred surveillance data over to China as it flew over several military bases. AP Style Guide Bans Use of ‘Crisis Pregnancy Centers’ for ‘Anti-Abortion Centers’

The Associated Press (AP) has adopted an overt pro-abortion stance in its language choices, instructing its reporters to avoid the use of “crisis pregnancy centers” and “pregnancy resource centers” in favor of the derogatory “anti-abortion centers.”

Reporters should “avoid potentially misleading terms such as pregnancy resource centers or pregnancy counseling centers,” because “these terms don’t convey that the centers’ general aim is to prevent abortions,” the AP says in its most recent Abortion Topical Guide.

If using the term anti-abortion center, the Guide instructs, “explain later that these often are known as ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ (with quotation marks) and that their aim is to dissuade people from getting an abortion.”

The AP Guide also directs its journalists to use the modifiers “anti-abortion” or “abortion-rights,” rather than “pro-life,” “pro-choice,” or “pro-abortion” unless they are in quotes or proper names.

Russia’s Secretly Splurging on Bomb Shelters ‘Everywhere,’ Report Says

The Kremlin has quietly ordered an upgrade to bomb shelters across Russia, according to four former and current Russian officials who spoke with The Moscow Times.

“An order was given from Moscow to carry out this work everywhere—inspection and repair,” one Russian official told the outlet in a report published Monday. Moscow has not publicly announced the updates.

Local authorities have reportedly spent hundreds of millions of rubles on the bomb shelter preparations, which allegedly began in February 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine. The preparations will reportedly continue this year. And although in some regions authorities have installed signs near the shelters, some authorities have sought to downplay the updates, in an apparent attempt to avoid causing panic.

The demand for bomb shelters in Russia rose last year after Putin announced the “partial mobilization” of troops for the war in Ukraine, according to Russian news outlet 66.RU. The shelters built then would allow people to remain inside them for as long as a year, and could allow people to survive a nuclear explosion. United Nation’s Chief Warns World Is Careening Toward Nuclear War, “Global Catastrophe”

The United Nations chief warned Monday that the world is facing a convergence of challenges “unlike any in our lifetimes” and expressed fear of a wider war as the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said experts who surveyed the state of the world in 2023 set the Doomsday Clock at 90 seconds to midnight — the closest ever to “total global catastrophe,” He pointed to the war in Ukraine, “runaway climate catastrophe, rising nuclear threats,” the widening gulf between the world’s haves and have-nots, and the “epic geopolitical divisions” undermining “global solidarity and trust”. . .

Guterres also said it is time for nuclear-armed countries to renounce the first use of all nuclear weapons, including tactical nuclear weapons, a possible use that Russia has raised in Ukraine.

“The so-called `tactical’ use of nuclear weapons is absurd,” he said. “We are at the highest risk in decades of a nuclear war that could start by accident or design. We need to end the threat posed by 13,000 nuclear weapons held in arsenals around the world.” As for the global financial system, Guterres called for “radical transformation” to put the needs of developing countries at the center of every decision. 6-Year-Old Student Who Shot Teacher Allegedly Had Violent History, Once Choked Teacher

The 6-year-old student who shot his Virginia teacher last month has a shocking history of violence, including one instance in which he allegedly choked another teacher. . .

Abby Zwerner, the first grade teacher who was shot, has filed a legal notice that informs her school district that she plans to sue over the incident that nearly killed her.

That notice revealed shocking incidents the troubled 6-year-old student had with his classmates and other staff at Richneck Elementary School.

According to the notice, the student had a history of cursing teachers and students, once tried to whip his fellow students with a belt, and even choked another teacher “until she couldn’t breathe,” the Associated Press reported. And the day before the shooting, he allegedly destroyed Zwerner’s cellphone.

McCarthy Takes Dig at Pelosi, Says He’ll Be Respectful of Biden at SOTU

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., took a swipe at predecessor Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., promising he wouldn’t “tear up” a copy of President Joe Biden’s State of the Nation speech — a reference to Pelosi’s dramatic reaction to the 2020 address.

McCarthy on Monday said he’ll be “respectful” during the Tuesday night speech, explaining his reverence for the office of the president overrides his frustration with Biden, the Washington Examiner reported.

Biden Shares First Page of His SOTU Address…and He Might Be in Trouble

President Biden — or whichever handler has the unfortunately responsibility of posting for him and reading his replies — tweeted Monday morning that he was “Getting ready” for his State of the Union address to be delivered on Tuesday evening. The statement was accompanied by a photo of a speech draft with a coffee mug and plate of cookies nearby, because why shouldn’t he get a little reward for his hard work reading what’s been written for him.

But some careful observers have worried that the first page of Biden’s speech might already be set to trip him up[:]

Grammy’s ’Unholy’ Night: Non-Binary Pop Star Sam Smith Performs BDSM, Devil-Themed Song

Leading up to Sunday’s performance, Sam Smith promised that it would likely anger Christians and cause protests at CBS for what he described as satanic imagery. As it turns out, the imagery was just a few items of clothing removed from a Looney Tunes episode.

As Showbiz 411 reported, sources said that the performance would “make a lot of people very upset.”

“I guarantee there will be calls to CBS from outraged Christians,” a source close to Smith said.
