James Comer: White House Deceived Americans About Hunter Biden

The White House reportedly “deceived” the American people about Hunter Biden’s art deals, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said in a Tuesday statement.

White House officials reportedly helped create an agreement under which a professional gallerist would negotiate sales on Hunter’s behalf and keep the details hidden from the first son, people familiar with the agreement told the Washington Post in 2021.

Comer claimed Tuesday that the White House agreement is a “sham,” citing the committee’s transcribed interview with Georges Bergès, the gallerist entrusted with handling Hunter’s art deals.

“The Biden White House appears to have deceived the American people about facilitating an ethics agreement governing the sale of Hunter Biden’s art,” Comer said in a press release. “Hunter Biden’s gallerist never had any communication with the White House about such an agreement to make sure there was any sort of ethics compliance at all, and he provided information to the committee revealing how Hunter Biden’s amateur art career is an ethics nightmare.”

“The vast majority of Hunter Biden’s art has been purchased by Democrat donors, one of whom was appointed by President Biden to a prestigious commission after she purchased Hunter Biden’s art for tens of thousands of dollars shortly after Joe Biden’s inauguration. U.S. Shoots Down 24 Houthi Drones and Missiles in Biggest Attack So Far

U.S. destroyers shot down 24 drones and missiles fired by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, constituting the largest attack on commercial shipping in the Red Sea since tensions escalated in October, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed Tuesday.

The Department of Defense is operating a panoply of naval assets in the region as part of Operation Prosperity Guardian, a U.S.-led coalition to defend critical waterways from repeated threats by the Houthis. Three guided-missile destroyers, the USS Mason, USS Gravely and USS Laboon, and F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier engaged the mix of drones and missiles fired Tuesday, CENTCOM said in a statement.

An initial assessment showed no damage or injuries to either the U.S. warships engaged in the firefight or any of the dozens of commercial vessels in the vicinity, according to CENTCOM.

The U.S. intercepted 18 Iranian-made one-way attack drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles and one anti-ship ballistic missile in a combined effort at around 9:15 p.m. local time, the statement added.

CENTCOM reiterated a Jan. 3 warning from the U.S. and partners against the Houthis launching further attacks. “The Houthis will bear the responsibility for the consequences should they continue to threaten lives, the global economy, or the free flow of commerce in the region’s critical waterways,” the statement said.

Entire High School Goes Temporarily Virtual to Make Room for Roughly 2,000 Illegal Aliens

An entire New York high school will temporarily go virtual to make room for roughly 2,000 migrants, it announced Tuesday.

More than 160,000 migrants came to New York City over the past year, and Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly asked the federal government for assistance in dealing with them. Migrants are being relocated from Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field to James Madison High School Jan. 10 due to potential flooding and windy conditions, according to the school.

“I am writing with an update regarding the activation of James Madison High School as a temporary overnight respite center due to the forecast of potential high winds and flooding conditions beginning this evening through tomorrow morning. To ensure a smooth transition for families temporarily sheltering overnight in the building, our school building will be closed on Wednesday, January 10 and school will be in session remotely for all students,” Jodie Cohen, principal of James Madison High School, wrote in a press release.

Adams and several other mayors of sanctuary cities, including Denver and Chicago, requested additional funding from the White House and Congress, as well as coordination with state and local governments, to deal with migrants. Denver has received more than 34,000 migrants, and Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston said “cities will have to look at dramatically reducing the amount of services we offer” due to the migrants. Defense Secretary’s Hospitalization Cause Revealed

The Pentagon revealed Tuesday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was treated for prostate cancer, shortly after the White House launched a review into his being hospitalized for days without telling the president, the national security adviser, his own deputy, and members of Congress.

According to a Pentagon statement released on Tuesday, Austin underwent a “minimally invasive surgical procedure called a prostatectomy to treat and cure prostate cancer” that was identified in early December.

However, on Monday, January 1, 2024, Austin had complications from the surgery, including nausea with severe abdominal, hip, and leg pain, the statement said.

“Initial evaluation revealed a urinary tract infection. On January 2, the decision was made to transfer him to the ICU for close monitoring and a higher level of care,” the statement said. . .

“Further evaluation revealed abdominal fluid collections impairing the function of his small intestines. This resulted in the back up of his intestinal contents which was treated by placing a tube through his nose to drain his stomach. In its Global Economic Prospects report released on Tuesday, the World Bank forecasted a slowdown in global growth for 2024, dropping to 2.4 percent from the 2.6 percent recorded in 2023. While this is concerning news, the report also indicated a potential upturn, anticipating growth to rebound to 2.7 percent in 2025.

The warning comes amidst geopolitical tensions, with conflicts such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine and unrest in the Middle East, raising concerns about their impact on energy prices and subsequently affecting inflation and economic growth.

Ayhan Kose, the World Bank’s deputy chief economist and director of the Prospects Group, highlighted the potential repercussions of ongoing conflicts, stating, “Escalation of these conflicts could have significant implications for energy prices that could have impacts on inflation as well as on economic growth.”

The report emphasized the need for a “major course correction” to avoid labeling the 2020s as “a decade of wasted opportunity.” It urged nations to address economic challenges promptly to prevent prolonged negative consequences.

This grim outlook aligns with earlier warnings from the World Bank in January 2023, where it anticipated the global economy dangerously inching towards a recession. The report, highlighting weaker growth in major economies like the United States, Europe, and China, revealed a significant cut in the forecast for global growth in 2023 from three percent to just 1.7 percent.

If this forecast holds true, it would mark the third-weakest annual expansion in three decades, trailing behind the deep recessions triggered by the 2008 global financial crisis and the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

DOJ Files Statement of Interest in Lawsuit From Transgender Inmate

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a statement of interest in a lawsuit brought in Georgia claiming that the denial of transgender care violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

“People with gender dysphoria should be able to seek the full protections of the American with Disabilities Act [sic], just like other people with disabilities,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “We are committed to ensuring constitutional conditions inside our jails and prisons so that those detained inside these facilities, including people with gender dysphoria can live safely and receive needed medical care. The U.S. Constitution requires that people incarcerated in jails and prisons receive necessary medical care, treatment and services to address serious medical conditions.”

The lawsuit alleges that the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) violated a transgender inmate’s rights under the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act, and the U.S. Constitution by denying treatment for transgenderism.

“The protections of the U.S. Constitution and the Americans with Disabilities Act do not stop at the doorsteps of our jails and prisons,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan for the Northern District of Georgia. “Our office remains committed to ensuring that all people with disabilities, including those with gender dysphoria, continue to receive access to such medically necessary treatments, even while they are in custody.”

In another case from Missouri, Kelly McSean, a transgender inmate convicted of rape and pedophilia, has filed a civil rights lawsuit after being denied female undergarments at the St. Francois County Jail and South Missouri Mental Health Center.

Media Outlets Bury Epstein Accuser’s Retracted Trump Allegations

However, buried within these reports was a critical detail: Ransome had retracted her allegations against Trump back in 2019.

The headlines, splashed across various news platforms, suggested that Trump had been named in the latest Epstein documents, creating a media frenzy. Yet, the crucial fact that Ransome had withdrawn her claims went unnoticed in the lead paragraphs of these articles.

Court documents disclosed on Monday contained Ransome’s 2016 emails to the New York Post, claiming she possessed Epstein-related sex tapes involving prominent figures such as Trump, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, and Sir Richard Branson. However, when pressed for the tapes, Ransome failed to provide any evidence, and no such footage has ever been uncovered.

The New Yorker reported in 2019 that Ransome admitted to fabricating the tapes to draw attention to Epstein’s behavior and to make him believe she had evidence that would be revealed if he harmed her. Despite this retraction, media outlets ran with the old and debunked news, burying the lead that Ransome had already disavowed her claims years ago.

Author and investigative reporter Vicky Ward, known for her 2003 profile on Epstein for Vanity Fair, emphasized the complexity of covering such stories in a video on her Substack. Ward stated, “Very importantly, Sarah Ransome has since said that isn’t true — that she invented the sex tapes because she was so terrified of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at the time.”

Oversight, Judiciary Committees Seek Contempt for Hunter Biden After He Defied Congressional Subpoena

House Republicans on the Oversight and Judiciary Committees plan to ask their colleagues in the House of Representatives to hold President Joe Biden’s youngest son in contempt of Congress after he skirted deposition subpoenas that would have aided their investigations into Biden family corruption.

Both the Judiciary and Oversight Committees issued subpoenas demanding Hunter’s presence and testimony at a Dec. 13, 2023 deposition that would aid Republicans’ presidential impeachment inquiry and attempt “to conduct legislative oversight.”

“Mr. Biden’s testimony is a critical component of the impeachment inquiry into, among other things, whether Joseph R. Biden, Jr., as Vice President and/or President: (1) took any official action or effected any change in government policy because of money or other things of value provided to himself or his family; (2) abused his office of public trust by providing foreign interests with access to him and his office in exchange for payments to his family or him; or (3) abused his office of public trust by knowingly participating in a scheme to enrich himself or his family by giving foreign interests the impression that they would receive access to him and his office in exchange for payments to his family or him,” both committees’ resolutions state.

The committees also planned to use Hunter’s testimony to inform future financial disclosure legislation that requires “transparency when the President’s or Vice President’s family members engage in lucrative financial transactions.”
