New Poll Reveals Trump Leading Harris in 2024 Presidential Race

A new Rasmussen Reports national poll has revealed a close contest for the 2024 presidential election, with former President Donald Trump edging out Vice President Kamala Harris. The poll shows Trump leading Harris by three percentage points, with Trump receiving 49% of the vote compared to Harris’s 46%.

The Rasmussen survey, conducted with a sample of 1,893 likely voters between August 15 and August 21, also indicates that Trump maintains his lead when third-party candidates are included. In this scenario, Trump receives 47% of the vote, while Harris trails at 45%. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. holds 4%, and other third-party candidates account for 1% or less. Kennedy is expected to suspend his campaign and endorse Trump, which could further strengthen Trump’s position.

Rasmussen’s findings stand in contrast to other national polls. The conservative-leaning firm has a track record of close predictions, notably in the 2016 election. Meanwhile, the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate shows Harris with a slight lead over Trump in a broader five-way race, and a narrower edge in a two-way matchup.

Despite Harris’s current lead in broader polls, Trump remains strong in battleground states, projected to win 287 Electoral College votes to Harris’s 251. Trump is anticipated to dominate in key swing states, excluding Wisconsin.
