Trump Says He Can Get a Peace Deal Done for Ukraine as British PM Arrives
President Trump on Thursday welcomed to the White House British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the second of three world leaders visiting this week, as European and Ukraine leaders seek a seat at the table for peace talks with Moscow.
The leader arrived in an SUV flying both the Stars and Stripes and Union Jack.
When asked by reporters if he could get a peace deal on Ukraine, Mr. Trump replied, “Yes.”
Mr. Starmer’s trip comes just two days after French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Washington and ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s expected visit on Friday. All three leaders are conferring with Mr. Trump to air their concerns that his aggressive efforts to end Russia’s war on Ukraine will result in conceding too much to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Since returning to the White House last month, Mr. Trump has angered U.S. allies in Europe by with his overtures to Mr. Putin, hurling insults at Mr. Zelenskyy by calling him a “dictator,” and insisting Ukraine repay the U.S. for its financial support.
